Plumtree Inn was one of my favorite Chinese restaurants, sad to see it's gone. I have many great memories of L.A. Chinatown as a kid in the 70s. It will always have a special place in my heart.
These three restaurants look really delicious. I always love your Chinese food vlogs the most. Then, the seafood. For 2nd place. Then the Filipino food vlogs, because I am Filipino American as a young woman who grew up on SoCal food. Thank you for sharing. All the shrimp stuff looks so good!!
That Mongolian beef looked awesome. Just give me a bowl of white rice and that plate and I would be in heaven. 😜. And I’m a huge fan of having an Asian themed breakfast.
Everything looked delicious. I liked the last place best I think lol but I also really liked your breakfast. Great info. Nice video. Thanks and take care.
I love Chinese food so much. Especially for brunch I love to get those Baozis with red bean paste inside. Totally in love with that but also soy milk soup spicy with bread sticks ❤ Great video and recommendations! Thank you so much
Hi rockstar eater! Your videos are great we've tried a few of your recommendations but my husband and i always have to forward when you eat. Pleeeease use a napkin so we can see the taste tests😊thank you!
hello reater, east garden rest - sounds nice canton canteen (would order sandwich ham/egg with hot tea with milk and plain congee/cruller), golden tree - chinese full menu (would order the seafood egg drop soup, jelly fish appetizer with salt pepper pork chop with bowl of rice - nice to know they have big party cater menu). thank you for the walk in la ctown. elle for spring roll
BC and Golden Tree are probably the best Cantonese restaurants in Chinatown. I've been a big supporter of them since they both opened. Um, the original chef for Golden Tree came from Hong Kong. Not sure where the current chef is from. Aside from the lamb chops, he missed the opportunity to try a couple of other excellent dishes that are only offered by them.
First time watching , I really enjoyed it! I love eating Chinese food, it all looked very yummy! I live in Virginia but have relatives that live in LA when I do visit will have to go visit Chinatown and the 3 Restaurants! Thank you!❤❤❤❤❤
My Cantonese wife appreciated this video, as so many Chinatown restaurants were eliminated due to the pandemic. We have now decided that Broadway Cuisine is our new go to place for authentic Chinese food. She also likes East Garden based on your video recommendations. Thank you for the discount too!. Keep sharing great restaurants!
So many GREAT PLACES are closed forever in Old Los Angeles Chinatown - both new and old. No more $8 lunches with Crab Rangoon, Rumaki, and a Mai Tai. No more giant banquet places. No more "Sam Woo" style BBQ Houses. No more Live Seafood in tanks. Now you have to go to Monterey Park, San Gabriel Alhambra and Rosemead for that. Chinatown is now mostly Hong Kong Diners, Steam Table lunch take-outs, and Vietnamese stalls.
China Town isn't the only place you can get Chinese food. There are more places that open late and early in the SGV, you should do a video on that. And more variety, China Town has been on the decline but it seems there are a few good places there as well.
Won Kok has the best Pork Chop with Spicy Salt and the best garlic chili sauce. That being said, their portion is small and only half of the amount compared to Mayflower.
Bruh I’m always looking for a great Fast Food Chinese Food place and they’re always ok or really bad 🤦🏻♂️ but I can’t wait till I find the Chinese Food place that’ll be my “Go to” there used to be one in Sylmar that I loved but they closed down years ago 😢😂
@@leslieescobedo2325 I would recommend Bistro 1968 in San Gabriel, Wonde Harbor Dim Sum Restaurant in Hacienda Heights, or Top Island Seafood Restaurant in Alhambra. These are all good places in the area to get dimsum or regular Chinese dishes.
@@leslieescobedo2325 other recommendations would be Ji Rong Peking Duck in Rosemead, EAT Bistro in Rosemead as well, or Tai Ping Sa Choi Kee in Hacienda Heights. All really good. Keep in mind, most of what I’m recommending is Cantonese cuisine and Chinese food is very diverse.
Personally, as long as the food is freshly cooked, I love all Chinese food. For me, the longevity of a restaurant is synonymous with good food. Won Kok, on Alpine St, which has been there for over 50 years, is my Chinatown go to. The dining area is not great, but the food is delicious and reasonable. The Baked Char Siu Bao is to die for, big, lots of meat, and again, reasonably priced. You won't find Shu Mai anywhere as big or, again, as reasonably priced. Again, they've been in business for decades, and have outlived most of the restaurants in Chinatown.
@@LisaHoneychan not much has changed. Prices have gone up, of course. The Pandemic caused them to reduce their hours of operation. Same folks work there. remember the waiter I call the 'Chinese James Bond'?
What makes it strange Is that I should have gained twelve pounds living on worms. We live so lean here that hard breads all burned and the meat stinks like hell and rice two or three times a week. Black worms as long as your finger. I liked rice once but god d*mned the stuff now.
Man Jen Lo, Man Fook Lo and The Lime House are all gone now. I knew the families. If you want good cantonese chinese food in L.A., you have to go to Paul's Kitchen.
Even the Mexican food is Amazing in chinatown...Los Compadres De Oaxaca at 640 n. Broadway is the best Mexican food in the world....Please come eat there I'm sure they would love to have you.....tell them Sam sent you and get 15 percent off....
I been to few places...since I live in the area... 7/10 places... He recommends......just so so... Just not worth following RUclips food influencers....
I say this with a lot of love and but as a local who has grown up and lived in Los Angeles for the past 30 years (I am 30), Chinatown is nothing but a shadow of its former self. Those restaurants you toured while I'm sure they're great food spots, they are not representative of the former Chinatown. How could they be? They've only been around a few years. All throughout my childhood through my teens up until my early 20s, I'd often visit Chinatown with my family because we were very poor and the vendors there sold clothes and other goods for very cheap. It used to be bustling with tons of vendors and Vietnamese/Chinese food establishments. Cheap and decent was the name of the game. But over the years, this area has gone downhill and worsened. Crime greatly increased. BLM riots, gentrification, and Covid hit which completely destroyed Chinatown. So many businesses closed up and moved because it was no longer safe or sustainable. There is no one else to blame but the people who trashed this area with their changes and very selfish attitude. I'm all for modernization but the idiotic selfish, and entitled Californians who wanted to change things up to make it more "PC" ruined this area like they have with everything else. Its sad. You showed only the decent looking parts. But I'm sure you've seen the broken windows and abandoned and] boarded up buildings...
@@sigiloXXX I’m saying this as an asian who has lived in LA his entire life: there are better places than Chinatown to get GOOD and AFFORDABLE asian food. These places are only 15-25 minute drive from downtown LA.

The plate of just prawns with onions 😆😍😁😊🍻🍺

You should check out the Chinese restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley next time you're here.
You listed some dishes that I haven't tried in a long while. Thanks Steve for this awesome video!

Central plaza used to be awesome! Especially at night with all the colours and lights. I loved that place as a kid. Am saddened to see its decline. 😢

I'm so down for the gyozas and soup dumplings 😂
I like to recommend Szechuwan Gardens in Glendora & Montclair. The Glendora location, they also have a Sushi bar, Steven is one of the cool-owner.

Hopefully you brought friends because that's a lot of food. Hopefully not wasted. Looks great!

Broadway Cuisine is my favorite! I drive all the way from Orange County just to get the beef with black pepper sauce 🤤
Awesome to hear.
If you're driving up from the OC, you should check out the SGV area, lots of great Chinese restaurants there.
Oh yes, SGV is such a great area for food! Do you have any favorite restaurants you like to recommend?@@abc123fhdi
Mapo Tofu! Yum 😊 I usually have to ask for mild though.

the best orange chicken is in JJ noodles in Chino hills. The chicken is crispy!
Have you ever been to Sam Woo BQQ ?

That restaurants sounds great.
The tofu dish looks good except maybe little too much corn starch?

Skip Chinatown and head straight to San Gabriel. It's the mecca of authentic Chinese food in the entire United States.
Why can't the NW get decent Dim Sum?
I bet you don’t finish what you ordered- what do you do?
What was the name of your dad's Chinese restaurant?
