    I'm sure this is a wonderful whisky.
    But I don't like the artificial rarity that they have created to make it a collector's item.

      On point....I'll add, and the parfumy looking packaging in order to suggest mandatory luxury whisky...That said it's one of the contemporary bottlings that often gets good feedback taste wise...not price wise lol...

      @Richard Driskill you got a srong point there. and yes when it becomes collectable the prices go sky high.
      But nevertheless I have some old whiskys 25-27 who are less collectable because of the packaging and branding who are not that overpriced(even today)
      And are stunningly good.
      I stay away from these whiskys and I look out for independent bottlers.
      But that is my point of view.

      a great contrast is the bottling / marketing / label of the Glenfarclas 50 YO for example.

    If the macallan oscuro is said to be from 1987 to 1997, the more recent editions, should be older than the previous ones, since the release of the old bottling, in 2010?

      I could not Agree more, in the background i see Glenfarclas 105 which is a big contrast to what they are reviewing. Imagine a cask strength whisky at 60% that gives an age statement most of the time, and at the same time is extremely affordable? it represents everything that this Macallan does not.

    Does anyone know the shelf life of a good scotch once it's opened?

    • @andersrong9111
      @andersrong9111 5 лет назад

      It depends. Generally speaking, between one and two years.

    • @andersrong9111
      @andersrong9111 5 лет назад +5

      @Richard Driskill you're obviously correct, when talking about how to mantain a scotch. I never said scotch could go bad when unopened, we were talking about when it's opened. If you open a bottle of scotch and let the air come into the bottle, the thumb rule is that it will be ok for about 1-2 years if you store it in a cabinet. However it might be fine, taste is the best way to decide whether it's good or not. But like you say, there are several ways to maintain the scotch, for example put it into smaller bottles, using anti-oxidation spray or seal the too. On the other hand, if you do not do any of that, the shelf life of an OPENED bottle of scotch, generally speaking is about 1-2 years. Abv will also play a role. Some say thst cask strength whisky can last forever once opened. And some say very old whisky can last longer because most of the oxidation already has happened. You're saying my answer is wrong, i got the info from Mr Horst Luening. Anyway, slainte :)

    • @andersrong9111
      @andersrong9111 5 лет назад +1

      @Richard Driskill I'm definitely not lying, i'm just citing whisky.com, which clearly says that whisky has a shelf life of between 6 months and two years. But ye, you are right, the volume of air is important. If the liquid is close to the top, it definitely can last longer. And yes, when there's only a quarter left, you only have about two months to empty it. It all depends on how much air is in contact with the liquid. And, like you said, you can easily intervene with the oxidation process. For example; extra seal it with tape, use anti oxidation spray, store it properly etc.

    • @andersrong9111
      @andersrong9111 5 лет назад

      @Richard Driskill www.whisky.com/information/knowledge/about-whisky/storage/does-whiskey-go-bad.html there you have it. The website also says how you can prevent it from going bad (with methods, like the ones you said above). Anyways, i think the both of us actually agree more than we disagree. Cheers and have a nice weekend, buddy :)

    • @aaronsilva2282
      @aaronsilva2282 5 лет назад

      @Richard Driskill All correct, and very useful information...I will add, that storing whisk(e)y at a very high temperature for long periods of time also, can degrade the quality, even if unopened, but especially if opened. You did mention evaporation, but high heat can effect unopened, properly sealed whisk(e)y also. I had a friend who had his whisk(e)y stash stored in the attic of a small A-frame house. He burned wood and liked the temperature in his house at about 80-85 degrees. Of course the attic was warmer. He opened a bottle of Glenlivet 18 that had been stored in the attic for years upon my visit, and it was good at first. Although I convinced him to store it downstairs after we shared a glass, it seemed to degrade much faster than normal-- after only about a week had passed since being opened.
