As more of a "craft whisky" connoisseur I'll likely never buy a bottle of Macallan -- at least not for myself -- but you've got to appreciate the amount of confidence Macallan has in its own brand. This level of reinvestment in the future of your own product is rarely seen in any industry in any part of the world.
I have to say as far as the production and information you brought to us whisky affectionados here on You Tube I think this is your best ever video presentation Ben. I would have never know how amazing and impressive the MaCallan Distillery is. I'm no expert on the subject but to me it's the most beautiful, technically advanced distillery I have ever seen . Very Impressive. I'm sure your video production here makes your father very proud. Merry Christmas to the both of you and your families.....Slainte!
2 years ago my brother and i drank a 5th of Canadian club from 73...aged 6 years before bottled. It tasted like the 70s....enjoyed it... flavor was flannel, wood paneling, overwhelming graphite, and just enough rust and Chanel to balance it
I just bought a bottle (750ML) of Macallan double cask 12 tonight, omg by far my go to whiskey from now on so delicious 🤤😋😋 what a treat! My second is Belvenie 12 double wood
I am and have been a customer of the 12 and 15 years...affordable.....frankly I enjoy the flavour of the 12 more than the 15...not that the 15 is not superb, but I get more of a honey hit off the 12.....at any rate, IMO, the best scotch in the world; love it!
Its unfortunate how I had a very bad experience at Macallan, in the summer of 2017. I was told to bugger off as soon as I got out of the visitors parking lot. Before I could get to the visitors center I was told that "this is a working distillery and I needed to get a tour guide to walk around". I then walked into my car and went to Glenfarclas and was free to explore and considering it was probably one of my only chances to go to Scotland I will never forget this experience.
Yeah I visited a few distilleries recently and found this one to be the most soulless. It was cool to see the old bottles on display but overall it just felt like a factory with the whole process being automated.
The flavor depth i have from the 18 is a less sugary blackberry, raspberry cobbler with honey and and the warmth that it was cooked inna dutch oven over clean coals. A touch of browned pastry toastyness and dark berries rendered out accenteded with vanilla and its all cooked in a leather shroud.
Hey, Ben, check the audio next time. It is only on the right channel during the interview segment. Not a huge problem if using speakers but annoying AF on headphones. At least just convert to mono in editing if sound is cocked up.
Nice video, loved the tour of the distillery - one I need to visit soon! I think my experiences of Macallan at bars has put me off them a little. Dumped in a tumbler/rocks glass and all the light/fresh subtleties escaping. I recently had some with my brother-in-law in a tulip shaped glass and the depth of flavour rekindled my interest.
I know it's not "cool" to like Macallan, among scotch snobs, but as a bourbon snob, I think it's a great gateway scotch (double-cask) for those bourbon fans looking to branch out into scotch.
At 7: 57 you said there are 330,000 casks on site and 80% are sherry butts and then later on at 8:20 you say there are 600,000 bourbon barrels. And on your website you write "the Macallan premises contain approximately 170,000 Whisky casks. More than half of them are Spanish Sherry casks from European oak." May I know the exact number? Which one is true and how do you know this is factual?
The Speyside is technically part of the Scottish Highlands. Every Speysider is a Highlander but a Highlander isn't necessarily a Speysider. It's a bit confusing 😅
What an absolutely terrible speaker.........yah. Bad recording when interview is on, only the right speaker works. Hate to go on, but these days how hard is it

yeah..... yeah...... yeah....
I think he was drunk already
Excellent work! Thanks for taking time to share this insight.
My right ear enjoyed the interview.
The 15 and 18 are my “affordable” favorites. Nothing will ever top the 30 year ive only had once in my life.

@gegernaut If it was Macallan probably it wouldn't happen, however MacCallan is a bit like that though
@@berkayguner That comment probably sounded really clever in your head...I'll send you a cookie right away.
Great video Ben, just a bit of a souless distillery in my opinion.

who gives a shit.

I love these tour videos! Great job as usual!

Why are you whispering in a barel cave!? 8:00 The whiskies are sleeping? LOL
Spectacular All Stars *********************** thank you for sharing your experiences , Have a nice day , Tom

What a beautiful place!!
It is!
Is there a highland Park tour on here? Please do one if not ! Love these tours
for some reason there is only audio in the right channel.
Yea!
That MaCallan M is something special, ask him to give that one a try! Hahah
This "regional" maltings Ben refers to (Simpson's) is actually from Northern England but not regional to Speyside or Macallan.
The factory is in Berwick. But the farms are in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland.
Thanks Ben
Great job.
Thank you!
Yep!

Do they still use Golden Promise barley?

Plot twist: he poured 10 year on all of the cups to save distillery some money.
yeah
Awesome video
Macallan being from Speyside region, why in the bottle it's written Highland?
The Speyside is technically part of the Scottish Highlands. Every Speysider is a Highlander but a Highlander isn't necessarily a Speysider. It's a bit confusing 😅
Yeah
‘Yah’
Very good!
So...there is now 14 Washstills, 24 Spirit Stills and it makes 36 in total :)
Mate has adhd he was so ready for that 18 year
lmao Macallan dude was trying to do his marketing pitch and Ben was just like .. let's get to the 18
30:08 - Orange peel dried on a radiator :/ Who is this guy
Thats not like 2x the size of American distilleries try 5 to 10x
10
Oh yeah?!
Would have liked the Dad visiting much better.
Can someone send me a bottle of macallan
looks like the tellytubbys but with booze
yummy
👍
Please don’t say yeah 😫
Best job in the world?
He's sooooo drunk. And other guy is nervous as fuck. Try hard. Love their product. Best in the world. This interview seems sussy.
And at the same time liked it?! I did. Sorry
It’s a bit sterile and no character compared to the old distillery! 😔
Why do you keep saying „ja“?
So annoying!😕
Warehouse is for looks...the shit goes straight to bottle, nice for show though.
Uh, no. It is cask aged.
Style and show, over soul and substance.
What an absolutely terrible speaker.........yah. Bad recording when interview is on, only the right speaker works. Hate to go on, but these days how hard is it
Garbage distillery. No character. No fun. Bland. Boring. Automated and cold.
Sorry i cannot like this new guy of whisky.com. He try to copy the style of the master but without quality. It's like a VAT 69
Hamon Hamon
The son of Horst master, got it?
As sons tend to be
Very poor narration! Yah.
Yeah
