Great video as usual. Thanks for the information. I am new to resin, but I am already hooked and just started filming my journey for my channel. It was your channel and Claires that inspired me. Thanks
I was just thinking about what is the difference between casting and pouring resin, then up popped your video. You explain things so well and helps me a lot. THANK YOU.
I've actually been using a table top counter top and bar top resin for coasters and ashtrays, it is about crystal clear best it can be with out a pressure pot, I mean the micro bubbles are hardly there and is just super hard and clean! It is from the local home depot, or hardware store I'll get the name after I go in an I will post it so other folks can try it
I got some from a hardware store and for some reason it just isn't working for me. I've got the silicone cups that I use and I try to measure as equally as possible but the tops bad sides do not cure like the bottoms. I don't understand
@@missdejarae pink sure that the resin you're getting is like a one-to-one ratio and you're mixing it according to the ratio that it's supposed to be cuz when I first started mixing resin I would get one to one and instead of like measuring it equally I was trying to do it by like milliliters or by weight and some of that one-to-one ratio stuff can't be measured by the weight of it because the epoxy is heavier than the actual hardener so it throws off the mixture if that makes any sense so instead you want to get cups to have like lines on them like the plastic cups to have lines on them or the silicone cups that have lines on them and just go by that, I know it can be kind of frustrating at first because when I started almost two years ago my resin wasn't mixing properly it was coming out rubbery even when I didn't use any alcohol ink and you got to be careful when you use alcohol ink because if you use more alcohol ink than what the resin can handle while it's curing it actually changes the chemical component of it or whatever compound of it and it makes it rubberized it's so crazy you want to get a decent resin I know when you first start out is kind of hard to get like a more expensive resin but I get stuff from home Depot is called glaze coat it's one to one and it always comes out nice and clear it has micro bubbles but I don't have a pressure pot to get the micro bubbles out and it has a decent pot life I think it has like a 45-minute pot life some of them only have a 30 minute pot life so you got to kind of work quickly and I've actually started thinking about working with a two to one or three to one ratio because it's very thin so it spreads easily and you can do like smaller trinket stuff with it and it's a thinner viscosity so it's easier to really spread out
I use table top/ bar counter resin as well. Pro marine has been working well for me, but those mixing ratios (1 to 10 by volume for this brand) making sure they are well mixed are KEY
Hi Steve, A new subscriber here, A great introduction to epoxy resin. I am quite nervous as to which to use. I have a 40mm pyramid which I would like to make so it comes out a gloss black. i am really good at casting resin and making my product clear with no bubbles. so now my question for you... is uv resin more desirable for jewelery and small things
Hi Steve, I am a beginner to this craft. I LOVE , LOVE all your videos. The one thing I wanted to ask is if you could leave the bubbles that pop up a couple of seconds longer. I am 70 and don't read as fast as I use to... lol. Also on the video that you did where you sealed paper flowers, I just couldn't understand what resin you used. Thank you again for taking the time to post all the videos for us. Lily is so cute, I also have a deaf dog.
Craft resin was great when I bought it at Amazon. Hardens well. But now the 2nd batch didn't harden well and left weird marks...Stonecoat was the best (but you have to mix it right or it won't harden correctly) and also expensive..
Thank you so much for this video❣️ I have been trying to figure out the differences in what kinds of resins and then here you are!! Very awesome and appreciated ❣️❣️
Thank you Steve, I love your presentation. You have mention being quite color blind. I hope someday you'll invest in those glasses. Men have cried with their first wearing. I would love for you to know such joy.
Ohh.. Is he really? In hope he tries those glasses.. how lucky I feel I am, to have eyes that can see Color’s.. sometimes we take things so much for granted..
Great video Steve! I’m about to start my own channel soon and this is one topic I was planning to discuss as well as the difference between vacuum pots and pressure pots. There is so much inaccurate information being spread around on the latter. 😳 I’m on the same page with you regarding UV resin as well. For me, I never seem to get the finish I’m looking for when I use it and I’ve used several brands. I just stick with pouring and casting resins for the most part. 🤷🏼♀️ By the way, my table top is finally about finished. We’ve finally gotten some consistently warm temperatures here in Florida, to allow me to complete it. 😎 Looking forward to your next video! 💛
I did the same thing a couple weeks ago with some small casted charms. 🤣 The weather was perfectly fine inside the house, or so I thought. I scooped the mold up the next day to demold, and surprise! It was not fully cured. I had finger prints everywhere. 😬 That was a do over! 🤷🏼♀️ Oh well. The trials of working with resin! 🙄🤣
Thanks for your videos! I think I learned more here than I have in the year I've been working with resin on my woodworking. I do have one thing I cannot seem to figure out, and I'm hoping you might have an answer. I pour colored resin about 1/8" thick. They look beautiful against a white sheet of paper, but when held up to the light and looking through, the color looks completely different. Not just different, but horrible! Any ideas? Thanks :)
I'm making a resin "stained glass" project. I need to sketch in a design onto the background layer of resin to be gone over in 3D paint. However, I'm nervous about using permanent marker in case I mess up. Is there anything I can use to sketch the design onto the resin that can be erased?? I really appreciate your help and time!💙
You being a professional, can you recommend which resin I should buy for a Bartop that will be 200cm by 35cm and 2cm deep. Also how much should I buy.. its all very confusing to a newbie 😧

I'm planning on making a sundial using blue and white china ive found whilst walking over ploughed fields. I want a coloured base to lay out the china pieces and then a clear (obviously) layer over the top. The depth I think should be 1cm base and 2cm clear. From your video I think using a casting resin. Is this the correct choice? Any tips would be very gratefully recieved.

I don’t know too too much about resin as i’m just starting to research more, but i think it may be a problem of proper mixing. Maybe you didn’t mix enough or you may have too much or little of any of the resin parts (A/B)?
I've read and watched a few videos that say some items are thinner so they'll always have a bend- my bookmarks always bend no matter how old, but they're not a sticky. You can use a tiny but more hardener than resin though if you're wanting a harder cure.
