It still baffles me that we’re living in a time where CEOs of film companies are blaming the AUDIENCE when their film doesn’t succeed. Like how is it the audience’s fault?! Imagine you go to a restaurant for the first time and the food is bad. You inform the staff who then inform the manager that their food isn’t good. Some time later you decide to come back and give it another try, but the food is the same. You once again inform the staff that their food isn’t good and they again inform the manager. The manger then comes up to you personally to tell you that their food is fine and you’re the one who is wrong. In disbelief you’re now certain the manger has never tasted the food for themselves before. You give it a few more tries and it’s still not good so you decide not to visit the restaurant again. Then you meet other people who say they want to go try the food at this restaurant, and you inform them it’s not good and save them a trip. You also discover it’s not just you who feels this way about the restaurant, but the overall majority of people who have visited it. You then hear the restaurant is closing down for good, then suddenly you get a phone call. It’s the owner of the restaurant and they’ve called you to say that it’s your fault the restaurant is shutting down. That is the world we live in right now. If something isn’t working then change your tactics! Don’t dismiss the criticism! Take it, learn from it, and improve off of it! Don’t expect people to just mindlessly come spend their time and money consuming your bad product! You should be looking to please your audience, not expecting the audience to please you regardless whether or not the film is good or bad! honestly if ai is going to take any jobs first, it will be executive jobs. an exec is supposed to be a 'people person' who is better able to identify macro patterns. but most of them aren't truly perceptive about human feelings and conditions, and ai is a better pattern recognition machine. there was a videogame company where all the developers decided to replace their ceo with an ai and they actually made more profit (i'm sure as subject matter specialists they also applied ai tools to their own workflows too). I assume these films are easier to enjoy when unconscious. Seeing it with a clear conscience though? Don't see what we have to be guilty about frankly.
Nepotism has been a part of Hollywood since the very beginning. It isn't new. Either way, it had nothing to do with these movies being bad. The reason these movies sucked was revealed in the leaked Sony emails. The people in charge at Sony are just stupid and out of touch. They wanted Spider-Man to be a vegan that listens to trap music because they thought it was the hip thing kids are into these days. It's not because someone's brother's cousins former roommate got a job from nepotism.
The reason why the Venom films worked, is because in the comics, there are many scenarios where Venom is actually the good guy. And we've seen in the games as well where Venom is the "enemy of my enemy" and so spiderman & him work together. Thus, we've all have already been conditioned to believe Venom can be a hero, and a funny one.
the venom films also didnt really work. each one was worse than the last. but it has a strong lead and used good characters that are actually pretty popular. the first one was mid but watchable. ppl expected more of the same.
This would be really funny especially since I think it would be worse in this scenario since at least people have heard of morbius as a movie I never heard of kraven until just now nor do I know anyone who's heard of it lol
I'd like to think that Sony learned their lesson, and won't do a second theater run of a movie that flops initially, but then they also repeated their mistakes by constantly pushing out bad movies based on Spider-Man villains.
I think morbius was kind of lightning in a bottle. It also helped that the movie was super goofy and silly but took itself very seriously like a mid-2000s comic movie craven and Madame Webb are actually just soulless
@asphaltape I remember seeing the poster a long while back after me and my bro watched Joker 2 (😭😒) literally didn't remember it until I randomly saw people bring it up online today. They made a phenomenal case as to why they need to give the Spider-Man Movie Rights back to Marvel We could’ve gotten TASM 3 or a Spider-Man 2099 movie instead of slop like Morbius or Madame Web
To be fair its not like Marvel have put out anything good recently either. But yeah it is weird that they go with these solo movies of more obscure characters yet they cancelled TASM and the sinister six movie tied to it.
It was part of a deal to get the rights to Spider-Man back early from Sony, so that Tom Holland could debut as Spider-Man in the MCU. In exchange for the early return of the Spider-Man rights, Disney made a payout, and agreed to let Sony release "Spider-Man Adjacent" movies, so long as they released at least one per year. Sony figured they were getting a payout from Disney, plus a chance to capitalize on the then white-hot popularity of the MCU and superhero movies in general. Don't take my word for it, of course. The details are out there to find. Be well!
6:35 Let’s not forget the complete WASTE of potential regarding Madame Web herself as well as three really cool spider-people (with fantastic actresses to play each of them too!). Can’t remember their names, but I’m telling you, they could’ve been fantastic if put into the right hands
I watched Kraven in theatres and it's like... fine? It's not offensively bad, it's certainly not amazing, it made popcorn taste pretty well and even had a couple scenes that were pretty good. I'd say it's the very definition of a mediocre film. It definitely doesn't deserve all the hate I've seen thrown at it, but it does deserve the mediocre launch it got. It's the very definition of a 5.5/10 movie, and everyone has something more productive to spend their time on than a 5.5, hell I'd rather go watch a 1-3/10 because at least they're the fun kind of bad rather than just be okay.
Honestly, the problem seems to be that this is like the 12 billionth meh movie they made. They've been pumping out so much stale bread lately, that people are just waiting for something better to eat to come along.
I think it's the hate over the movie's existence and the CEO's attitude towards it rather than the movie itself. There's some visceral hatred that gets triggered in people when some out-of-touch executive bemoans about why consumers won't buy a product. Stuff like "do you guys not have phones?" and "it's not a bad film" miss the point so wildly that it actually feels like they're insulting the people they're trying to get money from.
That's the thing about it. The target audience has already seen a lot of similar stuff so they won't have fun watching a generic superhero movie. It needs something new and different or just be really good.
If im spending $15+ for a ticket, i dont buy snacks and drinks cause if i did itd be like 35-40$, to see a movie and its a 5.5/10 i wasted my time and money and its definitely bad. If someone is spending their time and hard earned money in this economy to watch a movie in theaters, the movie needs to be good, entertaining or great.
There's no room for a "meh" film in theaters in a post-dvd market. You can't do a theatrical release of a multi-million dollar "meh" film these days. It's not financially sound. It does deserve the hate it gets because spending that much money for something less competent than the average 70s blaxploitation film and substantially less entertaining is not only baffling, it's offensive. Remember, Kraven is the kind of film the producers and directors thought you wanted. This isn't the first time Sony's done it either. They think people are so enamored with the characters or the premise they will show up regardless, so they don't bother putting much work in, especially post-production.
Wasn't she in the 90s animated show. I'm guessing they hoped that would help out given it was seen by alot of ppl and it's a female character they can do a movie about
I think her agent initially got her the role thinking it was part of the MCU. That's why Dakota Johnson said yes. Because both her and her agent were like "Yes! MCU! Big money, big role, big stars!". That's what I heard from multiple people, but haven't confirmed. Hilarious if true.

@@firstnamelastnamesb Nobody went to see Suicide Squad because of Leto's Joker. That character was heavily mocked from the moment promo pics were revealed of what he'd look like and he's widely considered the worst thing about the movie and probably the DCEU in general. People went to see the movie because of Smith and Robbie, the latter of which was recently launched into the public conscience from the movies Focus, The Legend of Tarzan, and The Wolf of Wall Street. And Birds of Prey flopped because of initially godawful marketing and the fact COVID reluctance was still a thing. People in the US were still hesitant to go to theaters and in many Asian territories there were still thousands and thousands of closed theaters which severely hurt its overseas performance. It had nothing to do with a lack of Leto's garbage Joker that nobody liked. Not to mention Joker: Folie a Deux is one of the worst performing movies in history which clearly shows just having Joker in a movie is not a draw. But I guess you forgot that movie even existed.
I've heard it said with the Venom films that when the critics hate it and the audience loves it it's a good sign. The critic reviews aren't stopping anyone from seeing these franchise films.
They're shocked nobody went to see films about characters 99.9% of the potential viewing audience had never heard of nor care about. At this point I think the people making decisions at Sony Pictures just enjoy punching themselves in the groin.
Not to defend these movies but people see movies about characters they don’t know about all the time. Always have. That isn’t the issue. The issue is that these movies are badly made.
@@buckaroobanzai7063 That's completely fair, but it seems like with these comic-based films, the marketing seems to expect for us to know who these people are. Since we don't, they need to give us a reason to get invested in the film from the trailers and marketing. Instead, the trailers are just as formulaic and bland and the films have become. You're right about the movies being badly made, but I think this is just a complete failure top-to-bottom regarding the Sony comic films. I bet even craft services for these films were terrible.
The first Venom holds a special place in my heart because my friend and I decided at the last minute to go to see it instead of a drama/mystery movie thinking it was going to be absolute trash, but instead we walked away LOVING it. Tom Hardy carried that film on his back, I love that wet cat man and his emotional support murder puppet
Honestly, I care less about the woke nonsense and I'm mainly checking out because I'm sick of all the psychological abuse that comes with being involved in pop culture nowadays.

If you want to make good comic book movies, hire good directors who are also fans of the actual comics, like James Gunn, etc. You hire an actor who is also a fan of the comics, like Henry Cavill, etc. You hire writers who are also fans of the comics, or better yet, potentially was involved in the creation of the comics. It has come to light on numerous occasions that the people involved in the making of these movies have never picked up any of the original comic books and are even specifically told NOT to 😂 it just fucking baffles me, i swear. They are so cretinous, so low IQ, so greedy. If all of these people were doing it for the art and not the money from the investors, there would be SO MANY GREAT FUCKING MOVIES! But unfortunately, they ARE just doing it for the investors, NOT the art.
Another banger video once again. It's incredible how you find super niche topics and give your super interesting take on them with innuendos that appeal to 13 year olds while you are in your 30's. I don't know how you do it. Keep it up.
I watched the clip that Netflix put up about Madam Web and Jesus Christ was it awful. Some train scene where all the characters are insufferable and all of them are speaking in a manor of which no human would ever actually use. Especially in the situation they were in
Another reason I find the venom movies works while the other ones don't is because venom actually does hero work from time to time in the comics. He's not outright a villain, he's an anti-hero.
Keep in mind DC brought in the perfect Matt Reeves, who then made not only in my opinion the best (dark and twisted universe ) Batman film but then made the fucking best villain show ive ever watched. This dude single handily turned a pretty mid villain into a monster and it was fucking art dude. Yet marvel and sony are dropping 7-11 films
I think the reason why venom didn’t get to the point of complete abomination in the box office is because at least the character has some sort of marketing appeal to a degree. (I mean the dude is literally a giant black alien monster.) Even though the story aren’t really that much greater. Compare that to Kraven or madam web appeal.
Venom can honestly work as a solo film. He has been an anti-hero in the comics before. Same with Kraven, but if it was a “Kraven’s Last Hunt” storyline, or maybe they at least mention Spidey a few times but nah.

Hollywood will never admit that nepotism has rotted their industry from within.
100%
Lol what my guy from the very start that has been a thing
Hey, let's not leave cronyism out of this.
I’d say laziness and risk aversion is more responsible for making 100 superhero movies .
“Lack of Spiderverse” is the best name for these 😂
Hey! Don't you steal MY ideas!
We need to make more memes of Kraven so people like him think its a good idea to do a second theater run of Kraven like they did with Morbius
The press was negative which doesn't surprise me.

They made a phenomenal case as to why they need to give the Spider-Man Movie Rights back to Marvel
We could’ve gotten TASM 3 or a Spider-Man 2099 movie instead of slop like Morbius or Madame Web
Be well!
DoomBlazer is everywhere
to be fair
we also got spider-verse, so
i say the benefits outweigh the negatives
TASM2 is why we have this mess

Cosmonaut pointed out that Madame Web doesn't even have a solo comic. Even the people that created the character don't care that much about her

Yep I knew this would be the top NPC comment
I hope it gets better soon 😢
I watched the clip that Netflix put up about Madam Web and Jesus Christ was it awful. Some train scene where all the characters are insufferable and all of them are speaking in a manor of which no human would ever actually use. Especially in the situation they were in
Another reason I find the venom movies works while the other ones don't is because venom actually does hero work from time to time in the comics. He's not outright a villain, he's an anti-hero.
if you close your eyes and imagine you're instead watching Wild Robot these movies are pretty good
Keep in mind DC brought in the perfect Matt Reeves, who then made not only in my opinion the best (dark and twisted universe ) Batman film but then made the fucking best villain show ive ever watched.

Charlie tells me not to watch a movie? I listen. If the studios get him in their pocket they'll rule the world.
The quote "they did it with Venom" goes to show that the critics and press had nothing to do with the success or failure of their movies

This man's commentary is hilarious. Lmao
This CEO was clearly that one kid that gets told by his parents that everything he does, he does perfectly, and never cared what other people said about it.
The new Venom movie was genuinely depressing lmao. It was cool but damn 10 sumbiotes couldn’t even kill one of the hunters.

“Have I ever told you the definition of insanity?”
Charlie’s description for madame web when he’s says it’s a movie where nothing happens is sooooooo accurate
It's less "the bad reviews sunk the films" and more "mostly reviewers bothered to watch it and they told us we weren't missing that missing that much"
You know what gets bad reviews? Bad movies.

1:55 Hey, that's insulting... to the CW lol
Nah cw heroes are fun in the beginning until they get boring and dragged out
@@velazquezquality6621 I've noticed this too. The farther you go into a CW show, the more unhinged the plot becomes.
True, true but gotta pay respect to the early seasons of Arrow and Flash. CW showed that you can make a decent superhero TV show.
@@Sawarynk Yeah, and the CW showed that you can make a terrible show too, like Batwoman, Naomi, Gotham Knights, and most of the seasons of Supergirl. Oh, and let's not forget about some of the bad seasons that the flash had as well.
I completely agree. It's like what is the point of these villain movies? (Yes, I know and it's a rhetorical question). Not only are they making the bad guy into the good guy, but they prop them up so high to make them seem so cool and badass only to get defeated later by the hero. It's so dumb and such a waste of time.
