Deep Roots is BACK and it's DISGUSTING! - Paladins PTS Gameplay

- Before becoming one of the worst talents in the game, Deep Roots used to be hard meta! This talent used to root enemies hit by Grover's crippling throw - and at one time it used to root every player in the chain! After the rework was found to be an absolute failure, Evil Mojo has decided to go back to this Evil Grover talent - but weaker than its previous implementation. This talent no longer chains, but it still has the single target root with no downsides!

Actually the oldest version of this talent is what is in the pts right now. It's ironic that this version was considered the worst back then during the beta so they buffed it to chain.
I personally blame the fact that our community is small, and basically always is small. No one realizes how strong something becomes until some top player abuses it. Sha Lin had a talent forever that made his cripple arrow explode but it wasn’t for a long while that people realized how busted it was and finally shortened the duration of the cripple to offset the ease of it. Or how recently Lex had his slide talent needed because people finally realized it was just so strong. Sometimes other options seem so good that you don’t have reason to experiment, and the people that do often aren’t good enough to make a solid argument for it.
I don't believe the single target root version has ever been meta which was why they added the "chain root" version in the first place? I remember it was all Rampant Blooming or Ferocity back then (and replace Rampant Blooming with Efflorescence when that talent still existed).
When I was active in ranked to the point I hit diamond, (season 3/4) if you played any talent that wasn’t deep roots, even when it only rooted one person (but chained damage to other targets) you were considered throwing. Deep roots was powerful and basically the number 1 reason you used him. The extra healing from rampant blooming wasn’t worth it as players believed at base-kit it was more than enough healing. In all fairness, the meta healers at the time were ones like Jenos and Corvus, who weren’t really strong healers but their ability to pocket and apply other buffs was why they were so strong. Thus deep roots Grover was meta because they provided something *other* than healing. A root that could easily pick off someone caught in it.
We have however shifted to a point where high healing output is in itself a powerful tool. You now either have high-healing, or other utility to compensate for your lack of it.
@@megamitchel100 Yeah but this was single target root and that was it. No chain damage, slow, or anything like that. It was Ferocity, Efflorescence, or Rampant Blooming after Efflorescence was removed.
@@megamitchel100 what are u talking about? I was playing in 2016-17 and we literally had this very roots talent. And it was the worst one since we had not many fast characters yet. And later they buffed it to chain to make is stronger.
at the time Ferocity was better.
@@jansolo4628didn’t realize this ever had no chain. But I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s tons of examples of talents that were in the game for long times but never picked up. Sha Lin used to have their cripple arrow explode and apply the whole 2 second cripple and people just finally realized and it had to get its duration reduced when picking sand trap. Even a more recent example was lex’s dash talent heroism. It was always good but completely put into the shadows by retribution’s 40% damage buff for so long. The community is just too small for every talent to have their full potential realized, and even when some players do realize they’re not good enough to showcase their potential. It tends to be that until a top player abuses it do things finally get put into the spotlight
@@vexillonerdI did not play in 2016-2017. I played in season 3-4 where Grover’s deep root was meta until the root was completely removed
Damba has a stun, Seris has a stun, Io has a stun, Jenos has Void Grip, Furia has a stun, Corvus has a stun*, I don't think a single target cripple talent is that much of a problem, except maybe for the cooldown or duration
I actually really liked the idea of the cripple target having a heal attached to it, it shouldve been buffed rather than changed
Nah it's a horrendous idea honestly,
If it’s in line with Jenos void grip I think it’s fine. I think that means giving it a 1 second extra cooldown, not sure
Flank PTSD
0:09 AndrewChicken tasting Grover’s deep roots! U GOTTA SAY PAUSE😂
Why not just give support and tank talents title for what role they are used
I'm honestly surprised they didn't try putting drawbacks on this talent like increased cooldown or just have it deal 50% less dmg (or no dmg) at all
Petition to have Andrew shaving his hair and working out to looksmaxx
When you are losing the game with Andrew chicken in your team: 😢
The intro of his channel starts to kick in: 😎
I think a solution to this is to put a cool down on the actual root but not the the ability (it would function like a internal card coodown)
Don't forget they need to fix the healing burst from blossom cause it's not right
can anyone tell me if grover is hard to play on controller? im thinking about maining him
i figure it might be a little tricky since it’s projectile
You can just try him for a few hours instead of immediately “maining” him..
i still dont see why anyone would run this talent over two....problem with this is you either a big hit to your healing output or a big hit to your damage output for a root thats honestly not that much better than base crippling throw
Yh idk
Andrew i wanna tell you abt andro, ik that in this patch he did not recieve anything but it would be great to make a video, the point is that we all know how good if veteran and haven, and plus when you have "increase base hp card" its even better, only flank that does not have one is andro i guess, what u think abt that or maybe they should buff a little andro, like little ramge and 575 dmg? and add increase base hp card
You dumb after now arnt you? Androxus already have 2100 HP at base while other flanks that have that HP card are at 1900 HP which is very low and androxus is fine where he is now, just get good
they could just bring back the chain, but the chained champions only gets slowed. maybe even cripple?
That was the last Deep Roots before the healing one. First target gets rooted, chains cripple.
To balance things out they should reduce the projectile speed when using deep roots, maybe even 1 additional second CD? Idk
No, just increase the cd when using the talent. That's it, it's that simple.
Keywords are great for any successful mmorpg/shooter. The only reason for a removal was lack of understanding, honestly hilarious.
No it's not, created a balancing nightmare and ruined some, look at furia they gutted her
I don’t think there’s a problem with this talent and it finally makes sense to choose it. I feel like the title is a bit click bait😅 I don’t see how this talent any different than for example Jenos void grip, with the right build he also has a short cool down but unbound easily counters it. How previously Deep Root worked was absolute nonsense so I’m glad they walked back on it. One of times where Andrew complains about deep root being useless, they make it viable and then he says now it’s OP😅
Raum vid when?
that people can't understand that a keyword giving bonus healing or bonus damage is meant to indicate the role you ought to take...
I think the failure is of those players IQ...
or they just don't know how to read, if such a simple thing as 3 keywords (healing/damage/hybrid) are too hard it's not a failure of that attempt.
Fr how they dont understand it? they even had different colors
Nah, the idea of keywords was interesting but it limited players and created a balancing nightmare, they ruined furia, pip and grohk ate good with it, and Grover literally felt the same except his healing was weaker and his dmg as well yet he managed to be still top just because he is good at multitasking
Why dont you buy item?
Nah I'm breaking up this echo chamber. I never had a problem with keywords. This guy was the only one i consistently heard complaining about them. Giving up some damage for extra healing ability is not an alien concept.
It's not the extra healing and damage that is the problem, they have talents that mess with the numbers already. Keywords just do it in a way that's overcomplicated and makes certain talents useless.
It was supposed to let new players get to know what talent to use easier, but instead the new players still don't know how the key words work
Whats a keyword? 😂
Drogoz counter!
Grover Rei about to be toxic

don't make them kill grover like vii 🙁
yea this title might be a bit too wild lol. maybe it does need a cooldown nerf or damage nerf but I don't see it being as strong as the really really old states of it
VII is not dead for fuck sake 🤦♂️ I played against some high elo VII players and they did not struggle to make him look strong, stop whining just because he requires you to fking have skill doesn't mean he is dead same for Caspian
VII is still annoying what are you talking about
Here me out. It roots AND makes a large area round the rooted targets (and bounced ones) that heals the team for like I dunno whatever luna's heal per second is. Roots only the first one for like 0.5 to 1 second depending on how busted it is, and has the other deep roots talent in it. But make it so the heal pools don't follow the enemy.
And keep key words. Forever.
I actually really liked the idea of the cripple target having a heal attached to it, it shouldve been buffed rather than changed
Yeah fun meme idea but how practical would it be? Exactly a through pick
