in the video it looked like she threaded the needle from right to left WRONG!!! The needle threads from LEFT TO RIGHT and NOT RIGHT TO LEFT Also make sure you have the needle in correctly: The THREAD GROOVE (on the needle) SHOULD BE ON THE LEFT (FACING THE MACHINE) AND THE "HOOK SCARF" (THAT'S THE LITTLE HOLLOW THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE THREAD GROOVE THAT THE BASKET HOOK IN THE BOBBIN AREA PICKS UP THE THREAD AS IT OSCILLATES) thread it correctly and it will work.
Nope. What you see in this video is the needle being threaded front-to-back, as it had been installed incorrectly. Closer inspection led us to find the error (all of my current machines thread front-to-back, so I did not immediately suspect a problem) and change the needle placement to correct. This did not 100% fix the errors with sewing, as there is also an issue with the tensioning screw on the bobbin case.
Please trust me on this. I have 2 of these machines and the "Hook Shuttle" operates 90 Degrees to the longitudinal axis of the machine which would require the needle hole also 90 degrees as is threading. Start watching this video at abut the 5:38 mark. ruclips.net/video/Ap4qabsyoto/видео.html If all your other machines thread front to back then the bobbin case loading position is in front of the needle and not on the side as is the Singer 237. Also you are missing a thread guide that is located on the needle bar and goes up and down with the needle.I think it will work without that guide however but not as well because the guide helps align the thread to feed down the needle groove. Please let me know after you have re-positioned your needle and threaded from left to right.
The manual is readily available. The lever with the eye that pulls the tread up and down is called a take up lever. When threading the hobbit case, hold open the latch when inserting it. Take the thread towards the back and book it at the top. Then use the upper needle to pull up the thread.
There is a thread guide your missing at the needle , either you missed it or its missing . I just found this exact machine on the side of the road for scrap and it was from a smokers house but complete , so i brought it home and gave it a good bath and now rebuilding it , only need to replace the bobbin door , seems someone cracked the top .
I thought I saw where she fed the needle from the inside out. I thought the thread had to be fed from left to right. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Similar to other sewing machines, draw a pattern on the fabric, put the fabric in a hoop, set the stitch length to FINE, set the stitch width wide, and drop the feed dogs. It's a mostly lost skill, but the 237 will work for embroidery - just that it's manual embroidery. בס'ד
Do you have anymore information on adjusting the tension on the top thread? (Luckily I bought mine installed into a small cabinet for $1.00 at a local auction.
Two things and we had this one sewing again. 1. The needle needs to be put in correctly - the flat towards the body of the machine with the hole going side to side (most machines the needle hole is front to back) 2. This machine has a very loose bobbin case. (The removable part.). If you know how to test the bobbin tension, you can see if this is a problem in your case too. There is a small screw to adjust the tension. Ours is pretty worn (new ones can be bought online - they're pretty universal - the one from my newer Brother machine worked fine - and they're not super $$) Good luck!
Someone may have installed the wrong needle bar on your machine or done some kind of alteration of the original as this machine cannot feed properly with front to back needle/thread orientation.
As I said - the NEEDLE had been installed incorrectly. Once this was realized it was corrected. This machine has a ton of slop in the needle installation, so it easily fit in the wrong spot.
My mistake, guess I misunderstood. Looking forward to your future videos and hope you get this machine sewing properly as it is wonderfully built and very satisfying to use. Still have concerns about the missing thread guide on the needle bar.
It's a lovely machine! We have at least two more updates to do on this series. The missing thread guide may cause issues, but I'm hoping nothing too serious! Thanks!
@@RedBarnHomestead I looked everywhere, no plate, or anything similar to other Singers that I have. Online couldn't help either. I entered several different numbers that I found on the machine but none made sense with a date.
I just purchased a 237,I'm so excited to learn it all over again. Its been nearly 40 years since school

Trent Staggerly She is correct!! In this machine you thread left to right. Or outside to inside.
@@susanlinville3136 Which is what Trent wrote.
Ron Dalby I know! I accidentally said she instead of he. I was agreeing with him.

It is missing from the machine.
I think my tension is not adjusted correctly. Can you show how to adjust it?... It gets several threads on the underside from the bobbin thread.
We have a video on how to check the bobbin tension. Adjustment is done with the little screw on it.
I thought I saw where she fed the needle from the inside out. I thought the thread had to be fed from left to right. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
We followed the directions from the manual on this one
NOTE: The Singer 237 threads from left to right (flat side of needle facing right). This is the opposite of many machines, so don't get confused.

I have watched the videos on the singer 237. Either I missed it or it was never mentioned , what size bobbin does it use.
I believe this is a Class 15 bobbin.
15 class
Hello can you demo on how to use this machine as a embroidery machine this was my mom she made all my clothes on this . Great full :)
This machine only does basic stitches
Similar to other sewing machines, draw a pattern on the fabric, put the fabric in a hoop, set the stitch length to FINE, set the stitch width wide, and drop the feed dogs. It's a mostly lost skill, but the 237 will work for embroidery - just that it's manual embroidery.

Just got the same model, and seem to have the same problem🤔

I have the same exact machine and it's not stitching the bobbin thread does come up but it doesn't stitch any ideas ?
Could be tension issues - this one needs a new bobbin case - it can’t be tensioned anymore.
I have the same issue and sam machine as well.... anyone know how to fix it?
Did you manage to make it work?
The needle must be put in the right way or it will not stitch. Flat part of needle goes to the right.
Do you know where the serial number is?
Yikes...I do not, but it might be on a tag under it? Ours is currently deep in storage in the basement and hard to reach.

Cuanto vale una de esa de segunda en bogota o en neiva h uila
I imagine the prices range on condition and how badly the owner wants to sell it.
It s not well thread. Normally there's a hook above the needle
That hook was actually removed from this machine.
This must be a reason why it does not sew properly. But maybe you solved the problem by now. It s a very good machine though
It had a timing problem which we did end up fixing. That one tiny hook doesn’t make much difference.
How much do you want to sell it for???
I was shooting for $80-100 locally
