This quilt has been quite the challenge!!!
Im sorry to hear that and I hope it hasn’t put you off on quilting. Rather, I hope you learned new skills and earned another notch in your quilting belt😊. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it. 😊💜💛💜🐥
Leave the Utah blocks be! They simply add to the wonkiness. Love the quilt. Sadie will, too. Thanks, Di, for a fun video!!
You are welcome Marti :)
i do have a blade saver, and i LUV that thing. so smart to use old blades rather than buying a special replacement blade for other cutters.
Except I go through blades on my cutters, way faster than I do on my blade saver, ha, ha ha, ha ha😂❗️
My husband does all my unpicking. Most of the time he does a good job 😊
That’s awesome Debra❣️😍🐥❤️
Looks great. My favorite block!! Wonky always 😂
Wonky was a good choice in this one and it was so easy to pick up. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for showing the twisted corner tip. I have used that technique for a long time and it looks wonderful.
You’re so welcome, thank you for watching my channel😊❤️🐥
Fun quilt blocks. I sew the mountains ( tips)not the valleys. If this wasn’t a wonky block I think it would be better to square up but a little shifting can bury some of the extra in your seam I think. I like the way it turned out.
Yeah squareing up is the gold standard, I was just being lazy:/
Thaks for watching!
Happened onto this video. Love this quilt. My teenage granddaughter would love it (she also sews 😊)
Thanks
It’s so easy, you should both sew it together. I have a teenage grandaughter who sews too😳😀, I love hanging out with her❣️ We’re lucky😍😍❣️ Thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
@@sisterchicksquilting memories and skills passed on 😊
I make charity quilts a lot and this looks like a great, easy way to use up scraps and make fun charity quilts!
I can see it, scrappy, maybe crumbs in plaec of the four patch, goo call Shannon!
I have never seen a quilt made like this, I can't wait to try it.
I loved making it, I sure hope you do too, Leslie. Thanks for watching my channel.💜💛💜🐥
The quilt will be loved because you thought of your friend, and her choice of colors. I wish the manufacturers would agree on the pink edges, valley or peaks. Hope you and the Engineer have a wonderful and safe Memorial Day.
I’m with you on the pinked edges Abeullah, consensus would be nice. Have a happy memorial weekend.❤️💙🤍🇺🇸😊🐥
Leave those purple blocks alone. They are beautiful.
Thank you Debra. But most of all thank you for watching my channel.❤️😊🐥
Thank you, Di. This was a fun tutorial. Your block is wonky, so maybe leaving the Utah blocks are fine. ❤😊
I switched them out months ago, however it’s still sitting with the backing in the to quilt pile 😊❤️🐥
I love that you can laugh at your mistakes. I make a lot of them also. Love the Wonky. Love the Borders. Sorry about the State of Utah. I would probably fix it. Kind of frustrating what kinds of things we run into. Take care, have a good week. Thanks for the learning videos. Loving them. This is only the second one I have watched. Will be looking forward to Others.
I did fix the Utah blocks. TFW💛💜💛👍🏼😊🐥
I love your math. I do that too. But then I remember I have an app from Robert Kaufman that does most of math for you. Try it. I use it all the time. Saves me time and gives me the idea if I have enough fabric.
Thank you Cheryl I’m gonna have to look that up. I hate math that hurts my head.🤪!
check your stash and see if you have enough of two different fabrics that match pretty close and replace those two squares. Sadie is your friend and worth the extra effort. Maybe you can use that fabric from your stash with some of the left over purple/gold and make a matching envelope style sofa pillow to pull it all together. The quilt is stunning.
Thank you so much JR, you’ve got some good ideas 😊 Thank you for watching my channel❤️😊🐥
Leave it. It’s a design choice. Beautifully done!
Thank you and thanks for watching K❤️😊🐥
I love it! The dark purple makes the four patch blocks pop.
It does, doesn’t it? Thanks for commenting and watching my channel.❤️😊🐥
You finished the quilt top 👍 It’s gorgeous and is going to bring someone a lot of joy so get it quilted 🤩 Thanks for sharing 👏👏🇬🇧
Hi Glynis 👋 Yes, I got it done, whew! Thank you for your comment :), I appreciate it!
I had to laugh as a comment stated that she "could see the 'Utah' blocks 50 feet away on a galloping horse!" I agree, I think they need to be changed. BUT, I also saw a few people suggest putting an applique in those blocks, which I think would work equally as well. Maybe stitch in the ditch while on the Gammill with gold thread to define the block edges? Cute quilt and you make me smile with all your antics!!
Yes, I love the galloping horse comment. Glad you enjoy my channel❤️😊🐥
I like to spin seams, too. My Gammill is named G, very original!😅 I would leave the purple blocks as is. When you tell her the 'state of Utah story' as told us, she will smile and think of you every time she looks at them. 😊
Awesome 😊, great quilters think alike. That’s Olive and G I’m talking about😂🤣😂😊🐥
Leave the blocks as is!! Thank you for the video 😊👍💕
Gotcha :) Thanks for watching !
Yes I learned the separation trick on Eleanor Burns and I really like my thread cutter for multiple blocks! I need to name my machines lol
I love Eleanor Burns. She’s such a good quilter and I’ve learned so much from her. And yes, it’s fun to name your machines go for it.❤️😊🐥
Your blouse is beautiful, I love it!
I had to go look at the video, Karen. Thank you so very much.😍🐥
Men love flowers also. Yes. I double count my lines. I keep the pinked edges. Don't fix it. Some of those purples will fade with use and time. It is a beautiful quilt. I would use cotton flannel on the back of that quilt (with thin batting inside). Cotton will burn; but, minky or cuddle will melt. Think about a flash fire. I try to use all natural fibers, when I can. Thank you for this video.
Wow! I’ve never thought of a fire 🔥 in regards to a quilt. Thank you for watching my channel.😊❤️🐥
Leave the quilt as is. Didn't even notice until you pointed the blocks out. It's a fun quilt. I did one like that years ago for one of the grandkids. They are so much fun! Love the purple and hold
I'm sure your friend will love it just the way it is! ❤
Thanks Lyn, I'm not a purple girl yet I've had so many comments like yours who love the purple! TFW!!!
I would change the Utah blocks if you have the material.
That’s exactly what I’m going to do, great minds 😍🐥
I’d change those purples to gold but it’s fine as it is too. It turned out great & I think I’ll do my borders now like my binding. Thx for that tip!
I’m glad you like that tip Cathleen. I learned it from a very experienced Quilter and I really like it.❤️😊🐥
I think you should change the blocks to gold - I think you would be happier with it. Thanks for another great tutorial!!!
I will, and you’re welcome Delores. Thank you for watching my channel.💛💜🐥
Great contrast between the purple and yellow
They’re complementary colors, so they work well together💜💛 thank you for watching my channel Marlene❤️😊🐥
Your friend will love this! I enjoyed watching you put this quilt top together. I couldn't help but smile at the roadblocks you kept hitting, because it seems to happen all the time with me. It's a fun quilt made with love.
Yep, we all run into quiltign road blocks. Thanks for commenting Karin with an "i" :)
This is a fun quilt. I love wonky. It looks like I’m in the minority, i would swap out the purple squares only because i spotted it right away from 50 feet on a galloping horse. 🤣 That said, if this were gifted to me, i would love it no matter what. ❤
No one’s ever used the galloping horse on me before 😂🤣😂 I’m changing it 😊❤️🐥 thanks for watching ❣️
love the way you made the blocks go wonky! I need to get that done for a quilt top this weekend - so much easier than the method I was just starting with.
Cool, I’m glad I could help 😊❤️🐥
Cute quilt! Love all tips.
Thank you so much :) :)
My opinion the two blocks that has the purple it's nearly impossible to see from my viewpoint however your quilt is put together beautifully and it would be a lot of work ripping it out to replace a purple with the gold... it's beautiful as is and we can't all be perfect. LOL❤... you could definitely call it the era quilt or not perfec t.. l ol....... the walking is not my favorite. But it's beautiful and very well done❤❤❤... thank you for sharing your knowledge💐 keep them coming❤
Thank you Faye, don’t hate me but the two blocks are replaced already, 🤣 it took about 15 minutes. Thank you for watching my channel😊❤️🐥
Look at it as the quilt God's are using you to teach us to count. Lesson learned.
🤣 I like your point Tinny😊💜💛🐥
Beautiful really enjoy watching your videos
Thank you so much BJ, that just makes my day😊😊💛💜🐥
I love the purple. Leave it just as you made it. And as a fairly new quilter, I appreciate the tips.
It’s nice to hear you appreciate my tips 😊. Thanks for watching Sylvia❤️🐥
Hey, Di! I would change those blocks out for gold. You've worked so hard and picked out so much, changing this out would make you feel better. Another thing... you asked if others always count twice before cutting. I rarely use the mat for cutting measurements. I will use a second large square ruler. I feel this is more accurate than cutting some by ruler and others by mat. I an enjoying your channel! Thanks for everything you do!
Oh, thanks Janet, I’m going to have to try the two rulers together. It will just be some training on my part. Thanks for watching.❤️😊🐥
I think I would swap them out. From my vantage point they disappear! However, by adding in the gold consider switching the orientation on one of the blocks to be opposite to the other in the same row. I hope that makes sense. Love your work! ❤
Can't wait to see your scrappy trip around the world quilted 🤗
I’m going to change them, thanks.💜💛. 👍🏼😊🐥
I was thinking the same thing--or do one of the gold and then swap another square from one of the other blocks and put a gold where that square came from because my eye will definitely be drawn to two gold squares in adjoining blocks. I know that's one more block to be picked, but I think the overall look will be much better by not having the two gold squares in blcoks close together, even if you change the orientation. But changing the orientaion would be the next best thing, IMHO. :)

I love it just the way it is! 💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛
Thank you, Martha💜💛💜💛💜😊🐥
love the little gadget for clipping the threads apart. Love the fabric so pretty. I would leave the pinked edges and do the best I could ,lol. Fix the purple blocks with gold. Thanks for all the good tips .
You’re welcome for the “good tips” ❣️ And thank you as always for watching & commenting 🤍😄🐥❤️
I’m with the group to change the purple blocks to gold. I hope it’s not too much trouble. Really cute quilt and colors!
It will be more annoying than trouble, but I’m gonna make it work Jane. Thank you for watching my channel.❤️😊🐥
Leave the blocks like they are it is beautiful ❤
Thanks and thanks for watching 😊❤️🐥
Your quilt turned out lovely. Don't pick that out. Our ancestors would not pick it. Can't wait til the trunk show. Thanks for video
Just finished filming it Jeanette, I can’t wait to post it 😂😊🐥
Those little four patches on the back of the blocks are so darn cute!! I love how the top turned out. The purple & gold look great togethe! Can't wait for the trunk show!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Linda. And I can’t wait to show you the trunk show either, it’s this Friday there’s a little surprise in it for you, ha, ha ha ha ha.😊🐥
This is a great looking quilt. I really like that wonky block. Thank you, have a wonderful day!
Thank you very much Janet you have a good weekend to😂❤️🐥
Just leave it .
It is beautiful.
Thank you, Jane, and thank you for watching my channel❤️😊🐥
Looks great ...like they are floating..ty for sharing ❤
Yes, isn't that the greatest effect??!? I love this design. Thanks for watching :)
I think that you could embroider around the inside edge of the purple 'charms' , maybe with a gold floss, in a decorative stitch and that would be enough to delineate it from the background purple. Easier than pulling it out and 'setting all those corners back in! It looks awesome!
I didn’t even think of embroidery until I got several suggestions, including yours 😳❗️ thank you for watching & commenting😊❤️🐥❣️
This quilt has really turned out beautiful. I have really enjoyed watching you. Thank you so much for sharing our talent.
I like the square shape too. As for Utah - my eye was immediately drawn to those. Don’t know if it hits you that way or not. Decision is yours. 🤔
I love it the way it is!
Thanks Linda 😊👍🏼 💜💛💜
I've been wondering how to "alter" those seams to make 'em lay flat. TYSM for sharing your techniques and knowledge with us. So glad I found your channel. 😍❣😻
And I’m so glad you found me too😊. Thanks for leaving a comment❤️😊🐥❣️
Thank you for showing the tip about four patch twist. That work for me about half the time. I love the colors. And lot the blade keeper. I enjoy using yardage over precuts. Yardage is usually cheaper. I know there is more variety in precuts. Anyways happy trails. Your quilt is so cool. I really like your style.
Thank you very much Shirley :) and thanks for watching my channel! :)
Thanks for the seam spinning view. I may actually be able to do this now. Very cute quilt by the way.
Thank you Kelly😄, it’s a gray technique once you get it down. TFW❣️😊🐥
I think the "Utah" blocks are just fine! Thanks for this journey, it was really satisfying to watch and appreciate how honest & down to earth you are. And your humor. 😊 The quilt math is still a little over my head, love learning & seeing it in action. Thank you for all the tips! Thank You!!
And it's over mine too. I will never get how much to add for an HST block.
I wouldn't touch the quilt. It's beautiful as is! I love this pattern. So fun in the fabric choices you used and it looks like it would be easy to do. The wonky twist is perfect. Thanks for sharing.😍
Thank you, Mary Anne. And you’re right it is so easy to make, just build it around the floor patches no pattern necessary.😊🐥
It looks marvelous just like it is. Super fun tutorial with great tips. Thanks so much Miss Di. Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day. 🤗🤗 hugs to the fam.
Thanks Debbie YOu , Jr and the fam have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend too :")
Don't worry about the Utah blocks! It looks great as is. 💗 Thanks for the spun seams trick!
👍🏼 Soon seams are so nice and easy 😊 TFW😊🐥❣️
Enjoy your tutorials
Thanks Gloria 👍🏼😊❤️🐥
Looks good I love it !!!!❤😊
Thank you, Pam, I love it to😊😊❤️🐥
This quilt is striking. I like the Utah blocks. It is uniquely yours. Although agreed with engineer.. long, although I would have added purple sashing to widen it between the three columns (long rows) . Still a very striking quilt. Well done you😂. Tfs, hugs, Chel 🌸
It’s nice to see that person2463 has a name😊 thank you for your comment. Chel, hugs back Atcha.❤️😊🐥
Love your thought process and the care you have instilled in this quilt. Either way you decide to go with adding the gold blocks is up to you. This quilt will be loved just as much either way. Beautiful job!
Thank you K😍❗️. And as a bonus, it was an easy quilt to shoot from the hip on. In fact I might do it again😳😊🐥
Leave it, it’s just fine, cute cute cute ❤
I have the most fun backing for that quilt and am just about to quilt it. I can’t wait, thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
Great video Di!!! I've never made this design before. I love how it turned out! The dark background was such a great choice too❤
Thanks :) The four patches really do stand out so well with the dark background. Thaks for watching!
Love your tutorials!
Thank you Jacqueline😊❤️🐥
Di you should always square up your blocks in between steps, in this case if you decided that your blocks were 9", then you should have trim to make sure they were 9" and that would have taken care of the pincked edges 😊
I know, but sometimes I just want to be a naughty, fast quilter and skip the boring parts. Thanks for commenting and watching my channel❤️😊🐥
I love that design! I did a video on it back in 2020. It was one of my first RUclips videos!❤
2020? That was almost pre-Covid! LOL😉 So long ago!
I personally would swap the purple with the gold but that is just me. I enjoy hearing all your tips! I don't usually like wonky blocks but I do like this one. It may be that because the sashing creates a gentle, uniform wave.
I’m with you, I really like this wonky block too😊❤️🐥
Love how the quilt looks! Those wonky 4 patches are adorable. I’d leave it the way it is. ❤
Thank you Debra and thank you for watching💜💛😊🐥
Love this quilt but most of all i love how you explained it very well!
Awe, thank you Judy ❤️😊🐥
Another fun idea. I think gold would look better than the purple blocks. I have a wonky log cabin block on my to do list.
Going for the gold, thanks for the feedback 😊❤️🐥
Going for the gold, thanks for the feedback 😊❤️🐥
Beautiful colors
Thank you 💜💛💜💛💜
Wow! It came out great! Thanks for all the helpful tips…I will be be twisting now more! I loved how you showed how to cut several things , those are some stumbling areas for me. Enjoying your videos!
We should all be twisting more, it’s good for our backs.😂🤣, oh! That too!😊🐥
Wow the quilt looks great. I would leave those squares as is. Thank you for the tips too. Have a great Memorial Day weekend Di!
You are welcome Jan. For some reason I thought you were from Australia. 🤔 only an American would wish me a Happy Memorial Day🇺🇸❤️🤍💙🇺🇸 Happy Memorial Day to you too ❣️
Lol no I live in Illinois, south of Chicago. I would love to visit Australia though.
Me too.
I think it would look much better if you take the 2 purple blocks OUT and ADD the 2 gold blocks 👍🏼it would finish off the quilt and make it look gorgeous 💜🧡
That’s my plan, now I just need to find the time 😊. Thank you for watching and commenting❤️😊🐥
Looks great, just like my 100 year old customer toy me, always be proud of what you sew together!❤
I am proud of that quilt, it turned out so cute for no pattern. However, I am going to fix it. Thank you so I for watching my channel😊❤️🐥❣️
Purple blocks are nice
Thanks :) TFW!
How cute. Leave it.😊
👍🏼 thank you 💜💛💜
I'd fix those 2 blocks, but thats just me. Its super pretty!
And now that I think of it, thats me too Letha :)
It's beautiful 🎉❤
Thanks Teresa, thanks for watching 😊❤️🐥
It’s such a beautiful quilt! I would just leave the blocks but I’m sure it will be beautiful either way. Love your videos ❤
Thank you very much, Laura. If you more comments have suggested changing the blocks, I will, if I can eat out enough for the binding. Thank you very much for watching my channel.😊🐥❤️
I have OCD so I would change the purple to gold. My OCD, also, would not tolerate the squares being wonky. You realize that is my problem, not yours. The video and tutorial were exemplary and I appreciate your sharing your expertise with me. Stay safe.
Thank you so much, Judy and how nice that you expressed your opinion so kindly.😊👍🏼 BTW, I already changed the purple to gold, it’s in line waiting to be quilted. TFW💛💜💛💜💛💜😊🐥
I hope I did not offend you for your choice of placement. Like I stated OCD is my personal problem. I love your instructional videos and ask you to continue to instruct in your very entertaining way. Love you and all quilters.
I love this!!!
Thanks for the love Doris and I appreciate you watching my channel too!😊❤️
Love the quilt as is😂
Thanks Dorothy 👍🏼😊🐥
Yes, fix it. It is gorgeous.
Thakns Donna, I plan on fixing it, every time Iloo at it I an't stand it even more 😳
add a small applique flower to those two purple squares. just a thought...
Thanks for the idea 😊❤️🐥
It looks good. Leave it be.
Noted AG, thanks for chiming in and for watching :)
Yes, I think I would exchange the purple units with the gold. A little bit of a hassle to do the "surgery", but totally doable as you said. 😊 Cool quilt either way...she will love it. 💜💛💜
appreciate your comments Arlene, thanks for watching!
Let it be! Just sew!
I actually fixed it months ago, it’s inline to be quilted. Thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
I would leave it as is, do not change a thing! Those are special blocks made for a special person. She will love it just exactly the way it is made with love.
Thanks Venetia and for watchign also!
Thank you Venetia 😊 and thanks for watching my channel ❤️😍🐥
I love all the tips today. Your quilt turned out so cute 😊
Thank you Yvonne 😊 Thanks for watching by too😍🐥
Newbie quilter here and a new subscriber as well. I love that you sometimes have to unpick...that's real, that's what happens to me! I love the color choice, love the pattern and its wonkiness, love the □ size and do not replace the Utahs! The quilt is awesome. ❤ Looking forward to new videos and perusing your library of videos. Thank you.
Thanks for subbing in the Chick 🐥 Channel 😊. I’m so glad you like the quilt, thanks for watching😊❣️
You could add some machine embroidery or hand stitches to the purple blocks, something in a light color to define those squares. Don't undo but add a little interest. 😊
Thanks for your input, Bekki. I appreciate it, also thanks for watching my channel.❤️😊🐥
Love it!!!
Thank you, Paula😊❤️🐥
If pre-cut has pinked edges choose either the hill or the valley and line up with that for consistent sewing and seams. 😊
Good idea Nat, it’s funny how I never thought of that until now. Thanks for watching and commenting on my channel💜💛💜😊🐥
I use the “valley” of the pinking part of the five inch square as the edge
That's waht I was doing but it was still really hard to see my 4" line. I understand why they pink the edges but it would be so nice to have straight edges. Thanks for watching!!
Looks great but replace those two purples for gold.😊
Planning on it now. Thanks for your comments 😊🐥
I just love you, you make mistakes like ME!
That’s one thing I’m really good at 😳! 🤣🤣😂🐥
I would definitely change out the two dark blocks.
Gonna do it now, thanks Joyce 😊
