  • In this video I go over the suspension setup I've found to work the best (so far) in the Traxxas Bandit. I also go over some different brushed motors I've tried in the XL5 Bandit.
    Hopefully this video will be of use to someone with a Bandit or Rustler.
    Also note that the XL5 Bandit has optional Bigbore shocks. The Bigbore shocks do NOTHING in terms of improving performance! They only make for a more durable shock platform. I've seen videos of people making claims that the Big bores help with handling, this is total BS. They come with a slightly stiffer progressive rate spring but that really won't help too much with cornering, just a slight improvement with landings off jumps.

    Great review and some insight on what brushed motors are worth buying. I just recently purchased the VXL version for the indoor track. I did add 28 grams of weight in the front bulkhead (recommended by other Bandit owners). To control the power, I bought the Bluetooth link module for the transmitter so I can cut the power down (it’s at 38 percent) and it still wants to do a wheelie out of the hole compared to my Team Associated B6.1 Factory Lite. I did change the tires for indoor track use. Hopefully the changes I made so far work if not then I’ll have to change the shock oil weight and springs.

      I to have the Bandit VXL. The issue with the VXL system is that it's too powerful for track use. The VXL system is made for bashing, it's got allot of torque and a fairly punchy throttle response. The XL5 Bandit on the other hand feels like how I remember the old hand wound modified motors feeling in the early 2000's. You get smooth power delivery that's punchy when you want it to be. The throttle control is also MUCH better with the XL5 kits. Just my 2 cents there. But since I own both the XL 5 Bandit and VXL version I'll choose the XL5 hands down for a track! It's just way more controllable. I'm actually going to make a video on this topic pretty soon.

      Robert NES816 yeah I was thinking it was going to need smaller gears (pinion and spur). Like I said, I just need to take it to the track. I did lower the throttle to 38 percent. It’s still wants to do a small wheelie but I’m worried it may not have enough speed on the straightaway or enough for jumping. But I can always adjust it if I need more. Like you said, it is about throttle control.

      @@2001Tauruswhite smaller Pinion means more torque and less topend. Smaller spur means higher top speed and less torque. So you'd want to put a smaller spur on it and leave the stock 26 tooth Pinion on for now or if you want to bogg it down more then put a larger Pinion gear onto it. But the risk with that is burning up your motor or ESC now since you're putting more strain on it.

      @RobertNES816 i can see that. Cause i have both as well. The XL5 is great for my parking lot but the VXL needs plenty of space. That thing is just a all around beast that begs to shred tires and go fast. I also added 14 grams of weight to the front but i think it would do fine with another 14 grams of weight. The weight difference in both models is very noticeable. The VXL needs it because of how powerful it is. It still gives me the heart flutters when i punch it on speed runs.

    The first thing I did with my Bandit was switch to brushless. The second thing I HAD to get was the rear bearing carriers for the drive shafts. That brushless motor really added the speed, the bushings couldn't handle that. I switched to the ProLine Pro 32P transmission, I also had to glue the front tires on the rims. Why they failed to glue them in the factory is beyond me. Next I change the turn buckle set up from the one piece bar to actual turn buckles.

      The stock tires are hard rubber, they've never been glued.

      @RobertNES816 Yet you can get Losi glue that works just fine. Been beating the CRAP out of them since and no issues. I will be replacing them soon. So many improvements on this Bandit

    I actually like the old 1994 design 😄 Great video!!

      The basic chassis is actually identical to the 1994 Bandit. Changes include a new slipper clutch, spur gear cover, metal gears with bearings in the gearbox and slightly revised front hub carriers. You can get a vintage bandit so long as you can source an old body and wing. You can still buy the white dished wheels and spiked front and rear tires from Traxxas.

      Stain RC that’s what appealed the Bandit for me. It’s Traxxas’ beginner buggy that’s proven to be tough and parts support is endless (OEM and aftermarket)

    Do you have any issues with the rear end of the car, bottoming out ?

    • @RobertNES816
      @RobertNES816  5 лет назад +1

      The rustler and bandit will always have that issue. Its just how they are. You can try stiffer springs and shock oil but at the end of the day anything with a low ride height will have that issue.

    • @RobertNES816
      @RobertNES816  5 лет назад

      When you're driving its not a problem though. If you do a drop test then yeah it'll bottom out.

      I made a few upgrades to mine. I put in aluminum shock towers, a cooling fan for the esc, and stiffer springs.

      @@RealBriMax75 it's just the nature of something that sits low. Anything with a low CG chassis will bottom out.

    If you want more weight in the don't use tire weights. I would say about 14 grams worth of weight.
