Great video. And the way you explain every single thing you are doing step by step is how you make a great instructional video. Most people that do these vids move to fast and they dont explain everything step by step or what issues you may run into. They simply do it in front of a camera, not even up close, and expect you to understand it. Especially for newbs.
This is a great video you did an awesome job explaining this upgrade I've done it to my rustler and it's amazing... only issues I've had with the mod 1 gearing is heat... it takes a lot more energy to get the larger pinion going but it's soo worth it
Freakin badass dude! Ive wanted a Bandit for a long time. We put mod1 crazy pinion/spur gear ratio's on our Slash's and Rustler. Its a kick in the pants. Got about 70mph on the Rustler and about 62 with the Slash then it back flipped from air gettin under the body.
I cannot help but add a comment here. Your crash impressed me as to the durability of the Traxxas Bandit. I did a few changes to my Stock Bandit, including a brushless set up, new gearing and rear axle carriers with Fast Eddie bearings( mine had the bushings which immediately wore out). I have decided I am done upgrading mine as it is Fast enough for me. I have the Slash Ultimate if I want to go stupid crazy fast. The Bandit is a fun all around car the way I have it now.
Best how to video I’ve seen so far about this. Every one else is either recording with one hand and working with the other one or they say “welcome Back guys we have this to throw on let me do that and we’ll be right back” but not you brother. Start to finish. Awesome.
Exactly
I just ordered the parts for my bandit 👍🥂I switched back didn't even get to run it I was afraid of over heating it got pretty hot on mine
Thanks man, I'm happy with the gear as it is, but cool as hell! I love mine! I've got a MAXX too, wow!
Also to help with front end i put some tire weights on the front. Maybe shift stuff towards the front. Has plenty of traction. Lower front to. Needs down pressure to help hold it down for faster runs and more control. Been doing nitro for awhile. New to electric. I just got brave and bought lipo batteries. 6200mah 2s 50c. Picked up the power from nimh. Still afraid of them 😆.
Loved the crash!!
Tons of fun on 4s with a hw max 10sct and a 4k kv motor lol. Makes a good speed run setup
How fast are you getting with that setup? I switched to a mamba x with a 1515 2200 kv motor and 31/31 gears
Awesome bro
Hats off to the camera man
It’s amazing the beating these things can withstand. 😲
Totally agree! Can’t believe that wreck! Lol
I'm working with these 36 mod 1
Hpi parts mod 1 pinions with 3,17 shaft. They kinda oddball and from a hpi wr8. Traxxas 2wd transmission ratio 2.72
108267 - 15T FDR 6,52 = 76/32 48 pitch
108268 - 16T FDR 6,12 = 76/34 48 pitch
108269 - 17T FDR 5,76
108270 - 18T FDR 5,44
With a 3660 3300kv on 3S I found 36/16 a good balance between speed and not sacrificing much on dirt. The 18T still closes the cover, just about. Not much room left.
try to see if you can mount canards in the front like the F1 cars have, at that speed the down force will REALLY help 1 lots of traction for the front and helps with the wheelies
@Lockdown spinning ah yes someone I can agree with
9:35 nice trick!
im currently working on 19/38 2wd rustler with mambax/castle motor
This is one of the videos that show why we buy hobby rc cars and not rc toys.
What was the shaft size on the motor you were running in this video that made you need to use that reducer
I see this in the comments but not in the same comment. Lower both front and back. Use anaconda street tires from traxxas $50 for front and back. See if you can find a bigger wing for it to increase downforce. On the bandit the shape and weight of the front end causes it to act like a wing. You could also try to add some front end weight with metal steering bushings and shocks etc
Edit: I see you have the tires on yours already. I’m going to leave it in my original comment for new people starting out. My suggestion for you at the end of the video is to play with your shock spacers to lower it. Lower it 10-15% more in the front than the back. Make sure there’s enough room that you don’t damage the chassis on bumps and potholes
Do you think the gear cover would fit with a lot smaller pinion?
Nice upgrade. I don't own any Traxxas products but the Bandit would be a great car for any collection. I have been looking for a 2wd and you're video is very helpful in convincing me to go with a Bandit. It's kind of confusing when you search online for prices ranging from $99 to $329. Is there much difference other than the motor and ESC? I'm considering a brushed version and upgrade the electronics. Thanks again for showing us the gearing upgrade. Very helpful information.
The VXL also has I believe better shocks and adjustable links, but if you plan on upgrading the electronics, it may be the smarter option to go brushed and then upgrade parts as needed. Have fun!
How do you feel about 31pinion and 83Spur on stock motor
Hey. They got a new bandit vxl just came out they re did the new color and it’s got a new magnum 272R like the drag slash on it but no lunch control but you can swap out the controller with trans brake switch to lunch the car and that’s it. I just got me another bandit vxl today I got 2 of them now
what color was that with the 272r?
Where are you getting your new wheelie bar?
I’ve added a new transmission case brush less motor new tires new rear and front shock towers
I’m looking forward to getting the bandit it’s my first traxxas car
Awesome I think you’ll love it!
😊
@@Lorenz_c that thang is only a Street rc car so no off-road with it because you’ll get nowhere with those wheels
Dude this thing flies & I have the original bandit I just recently had my headlights on it & ppl in my apartment complex have traxxas cars I've so far gotten compliments how it looks I also recently got my road tires for my drag racing good luck enjoy your car it's the shit 👍
Hey is it possible to use the original spur with the elminator?
are you thinking of getting alloy shocks? i’d probably want to lower it and tighten up the suspension if i were you
That’s a good idea actually. I’ve noticed with that wreck that it took just a little bit of air to get under the car and then it was lights out.
Hello, new to RC. Why remove the slipper clutch? Would that cause the motor to strip gears?
It would strip if you didn’t have the mesh set correctly or if you are way overpowered and incorrectly geared. It does allow direct power and that puts strain on the drive train. With the slipper clutch, extra power or a stuck part in the drivetrain allows the transition from pinion to spur to slip and save parts.
im getting one i just got the same gearing today
Nice! I hope you like it!
What battery are you using? I’m thinking about upgrading from the stock NiMH
Is yours brushed or brushless? On brushed cars or anything with the Xl5 esc you can use a nimh battery or up to a 2S and with a brushless you can use 2S or 3s
I have the slash with gear ratio of 25/36 she will blow belted tires apart it’s to too fast
Do a 17mm hub conversion and get GRP tyres ( yes tyres lol )
I just bought the smaller hub conversion, 12mm and was going to use the e revo proline tires you test them. But I am definitely not opposed to a 17mm conversion. Got a link?
@@RCRecon go to a Facebook page called rc bashers and crashers, I'm on there, post your RUclips page on there and I'll find it and be able to help you out more on there.
what is traxxas part number for 24:36 gears ?
Have 2 rustlers and a nitro hpi stadium. All 2wd. But on 1 have 31/86 and 28/76 on the rustlers. Ordered more pinion gears and another 76. Didn't have extra 76 but had 86. Looking for a med gear range that i can use off road. Got smaller pinion 19, 23. Ordered some smaller than 19 and between and higher than 31. Have any suggestions on a starting point for what im looking for as for both spur and pinion?
If you’re doing off-road I like to use a 1/4 rule. So the pinion should be roughly 1/4 the size of the spool. Example, 80T spool and 20T pinion. This rule is just a guide and converts to mod 1 and 1.5 too. Sounds like you bought plenty of gears though so just experiment and watch your temps. Have fun!
Yep now that I'm thinking about it gonna order me the link for my transmitter. And go from there. Thanks for the reminder.
I just did my bandit, it’s stupid fast, do u no of an tires that may last a little longer
You may need to switch to Foam if you’re doing speed run stuff. Otherwise maybe check out some of the Arrma 1:8 and 1:7 scale tires.
What kind of drivers are those? With the gold bits? I like the design
The are made by ATOMiK, I just did a while took video that also has links to the products on amazon. It’s a recent video if you wanna look for it on my channel.
@@RCRecon oh I didn't see that video! Definitely going to take a look! Thanks much!
How much parts cost
Nice vid!! New SUBSCRIBER here. O-H!
I-O!
Did u tighten down the spur gear nut all the way?
No the spring should act as a locking washer
What’s the top speed where you able to get out of that motor??
I ended up getting 70mph on the dot but have since switched motors and esc’s twice. I have some more recent videos if you wanna check those out.
with this gear upgrade will it be able to hit 70 mph
Should be faster than 70 but I haven’t tested it with tires that can handle it yet.
Have you gps or radar gunned this 24:36 gearing yet? Are you over 100mph?
Not yet but I am in the middle of a bandit to slash lcg chassis swap and a hobby wing max 10 and 4000kv motor combo that should make it even faster. Look out for part 1 of that video to come out soon.
Lower your rear end, less leverage for the front to come up.
What tire glue did you use? You don’t have to respond.
Oh gosh I really don’t remember, it was a long time ago. The glue also didn’t hold even after re-gluing so I don’t think you want that brand lol.
@@RCRecon that’s fine
Where do you get the adapter
Amazon, here’s a link. Robinson Racing Products 5mm-1/8 Reducer Sleeve, RRP1200 www.amazon.com/dp/B0015BJNH4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5SN4EbZX6MJ8N
Can the stock bandit tyres handel 70mph or no
Oh no. They will for sure balloon and pop on you. I would go for GRP with 17mm hex adaptors.
@@RCRecon ok
@@RCRecon can you please make a link to it for me

what gear set up would do 50 mph on a stock brushed bandit ? how long is the run time before esc and motor damage ?
Stock or close to it and if you watch temps the run times are dependent on your batteries
what is run time on your 24 36 ,
thanks
would you be able to give me the links to the parts

Do i need a slipper eliminator got a rustler 3s wanting to go mod 1
You don’t need one but I’d prolly tighten it down a bit
@@RCRecon Did u ever find out a top speed on 3s with that gearing?
It was only about 70 but other factors came into play like weight, length, battery. I just got a new battery today and I did a quick test run... HOLY $#!¥ I can’t wait to do another full on high speed run!
@@RCRecon 70mph or kph and what c rating on the new? battery
Mph and 120C 4S battery by SMC racing be the 50C from Traxxas - huge difference
