@@leviberg2377 I've read it 3, attempted it 17. If I can make it past the lay of the land and the genealogy at the start then I'm home free. I think its the best collection of stories in Middle Earth, my only beef is The Children of Hurin is in the Silmarillian, repeated again in the unfinished tales and even has its own book. I could read the story of Beren and Luthien until the day I die, but Narn I Hin Hurin for some reason I don't understand really grates me
@@kdtjones Haha, I'm a history major and amateur genealogist so I appreciate those parts. But yeah, I completely agree about the Children of Hurin, I think it's overrated compared to other stories in the book. Still like it though.
@@leviberg2377 i like that too. I don't know what version you have but in the back of mine it has diagrams of the family tree. I love studying those and finding out things like Elrond is Aragorns great great great great great great great great great great great great great uncle and so one of the problems he was with Arogorn dating his daughter isn't because of Isildors folly its because they're cousins. Dude, this is Rivendell *not* Alabama.
Well, I'm not proud, I tried it twice and failed and *one was an audiobook* so I guess I'll be content to be a humble hobbit who knows a few words of Elvish but who don't hold with none of them odd goin's on outside the Shire...
I love how Stephen seems a little shy about nerding out like that but when he does it on his show it's ALL PRIDE and a little ridicule for people who don't know their Tolkien lore.

He is trying to pretend to be a nerd, u are clueless about body language he isnt shy about nerding he's trying to act as if he was nerding if anything conan's the real nerd, in history

I doubt he is a "fake nerd", he genuinely seems like he is interested in fantasy and especially Lord of The Rings - which was popular when he was growing up. I remember hearing that he emersed himself in this kind of escapism in his young adult life, partly to get away from the traumatic experience of losing his father and two brothers in an airplane crash.
@@Zetsuke4 no he really is a nerd I remember when I watched the The Hobbit appendices he is such a nerd that even Peter Jackson himself casted him as an extra plus given him props from the film. You can really know he's such a Tolkien nerd because I myself pretty much know the lore since I read Tolkien's work but Stephen knows everything in such detail.
"Or don't you speak Quenya" had me laughing out loud. Stephen Colbert being a Tolkien geek brightens my day.

@@AndyRichter1991 Definitely not universal. I've heard more people say Letterman than anything. And I don't get what is so great about Conan. I've never found him all that funny and he definitely gets outshone by Colbert in this video.
