Remember our GOLDEN RULE: fewer clothes, more underwear! Having clean underwear when you haven't been able to use the in your host family's apartment that week will be a saviour - we promise.
You're also very likely to find that as soon as Soldes come around, cheap cute sneakers and a black coat are much more useful for your new Parisian style than the six pairs of: heels or brightly colored shirts/dresses that you brought from home. Trust us, we've been there.

One thing to always remember is pyjamas. Host children have a habit of busting into tour room when you’re asleep 😂

Yes! You read my mind again! Could you do a video on phones and phone plans when you’re moving from the states to Europe and bank stuff? Like did you have to open a bank account in Paris or did your host family pay you in cash?
I definitely agree with the more underwear thing that’s one thing I regret not packing enough underwear and socks for my 6 months as an au pair

Question: How did you guys handle prescription medications (if you had them)? I have a medication I need refilled every 3 months and am wondering how I will get that filled and haven’t found a good answer.

Ohhh Luna, I have this exact problem. I am packing to aupair in Barcelona and I cut my locs off but now I have my curly hair out and I am torn between wigs and hair products!!!

Lol, I totally get that! Pro tip: Don't pack too much! You will most likely buy A LOT of clothes once you get there. Trust me

I really want to be an Au Pair after upper secondary school. I will graduate when I'm 19 but I will work at a daycare before I go to get the required hours with kids. I will be 20 when I leave most likely, is that too old? Will I still be able to have fun? Will I be like the grandma of the local Au Pairs? How old were you when you became an Au Pair? I would love to hear you opinions on this. Thank you!
feeling too old is probably like feeling you are too shit for a job before you even go for an interview. It is just a stupid noise in your head. I would recommend you not to think too much and just go with your instinct. Just do what you want without causing any problems to the people around you then you are good to go^^
I know the original comment is from a year ago.. but I was first an au pair in Spain when I was 19, and now I’m going to be one in Germany at age 21. That’s perfectly normal and you’ll still have a great time as long as you make the most out of it! You can be an au pair up to age 26 in most places and I think I may even do it one more time in France in a few years. Enjoy it and step outside of your comfort zone by challenging yourself :)

That's difficult! What's the reason why they don't want you to leave? I think they may be scared because its something which they know very little about. The solution might be to educate them on how the process works, maybe let them talk with your host family once you've found one and so on so that they know you'll be safe.
In the end, it's really up to you and if it's something you want to do, then do it! If it doesn't turn out to be the way you thought you can always go back home.
@@nikeelisabeth Yes, that is true! They are scared because they have heard a lot of bad stories about people going abroad, which is why they don't want me to leave. But also because they don't think that I should be abroad alone, as a woman
