Edwina and I played a little game while staying in Dumaguete, Philippines. We both wrote down FIVE mistakes we made as au pairs without showing the other...
The result is 14 minutes of Hanna explaining her stupidest moments and Edwina giving useful advice.
If you like what you hear and feel this information can help you, then check out our book next year.
It will be available in February 2018! This video is a pretty good indication of what'll be in it - both actionable help and really ridiculous stories.
We're also now on Twitter! Send us any of your questions or follow us for Paris tips. @aupairohparis

My family did fire me :( they where sooo mean and it was because they didn't really need an AuPair, I felt like the free Netflix trial. Not cool at all, always have a backup plan

I was an au pair in the Greater London area. I remember dropping a bowl (plastic) the first week, almost shattering cups, messing up dinner (forgot allergies... luckily my hostmum fixed it), the laundry machine ripped a LOT of clothes in my first week, almost breaking my 10-year-old's Nintendo Switch... they didn't trust me to drive, so that's a big plus or I'd have ruined their car too 😂

My host mom was just like to me 'it's the middle of the night, can you be silent?' because I was trying to have a midnight snack and you guys have noooooo idea how reassuring watching this is. Everybody messes up, it's okay. I will keep telling myself that.

Wow so I think after 6 years I must not be over my au pair ptsd... watching this made me sick to my stomach and gave me a cold sweat and flashbacks.
It is comforting to hear that y’all made the exact same mistakes I did (locking myself out, I broke an iron) but it has also made me realize how crazy my host mom was. If I had done some of the things listed here I would have been fired on the spot. I got in trouble all the time for the smallest things (such as executing a chore less efficiently than desired)
In the end, I was fired because I accidentally put an ice cream cake in the fridge for 10 mins (it wasn’t melted yet, just soft) and why did I make such a mistake you may ask? Because I was in the middle of getting in trouble for the dirt tracked into the house by the children.... 🤦🏼‍♀️

Looking to hire an au pair soon, it would be great to hear what an “ideal family” would look like and what questions we should ask in interview

I was an aupair before in Germany. I think a "ideal family" is that you have a clear schedule, tell us exactly what you want, ect. Well just be clear and tell us what you expect, what bother you.

I took a nap during my time off and slept through the time I was supposed to pick up my kid from school... so when I woke up, my host mum came home and realized I was still home and she rushed out to pick her kid up ://

Hahaha I laughed so hard at Hannas dead-fish-story XD
Regarding the sim-card problem: Luckily it´s easy when you already live in Europe, bc then u can just use it normally and it will work everywhere in Europe :)

This saturday i forgot my house keys at my weekend work... My familly was away visiting their parrents. Guest who had to come back in a 4 hours round trip to unlock the door so that the sick dog I WAS SUPPOS TO LOOK AFTER wouldn´t die for not getting it´s medicine and usual walk... I also got charge 25 pounds off my wage to remplace their extra petrole expence. Biggest mistake so far... will I survive? Toon up soon to find out....

Broke someone elses things, lost their car...scratched their car (dim and clumsy). But no issues with failing to solidify your schedules, pay , indentured servitude, working 24 hours a day with little pay, no privacy.

Hey I’m thinking about au pairing in Paris in my gap year do you think you could recommend any websites to find host families?

    • @fifi7583

au pair world is a good website, you can put filters on and read about families and see what they would prefer

You two sound like the worst Au Pairs you could ever have.. NGL. Killing the dad's pride and joy of rare fish? How fucking hard is it to remember to feed some fish a few flakes a day. Or losing their dog? I'd have fired you immediately for that one. If they can't trust you with goddamn fish or a dog, how can they trust you with their kids?

Absolutely inmature and misrespectful. Parties in the hosts home? Not chamging her clothes… i am surprised Theme two think it is funne to misrepect a familie. They dont even like kids!11
