Great video, Peter. Finally I learnt how to loosen, replace and tighten the drive belt on my car. To the people saying it's too long: stop rushing yourself. The walk-through is a detailed, calm explanation of what to do, how to access it and what purpose each part serves. This isn't a job that's going to be thoroughly explained in a three minute RUclips video.
Very informative video. Your system is the same as mine so I watched enough of it to find out where the bolts were and how to loosen and tighten them up. Decided I could replace my alternator drive belt rather than paying a mechanic $300 to replace it. Took less than half an hour due to none of the bolts being too tight to loosen and being able to get to all of them from above. BTW, my old belt was so degraded it has separated into 5 shoe lace size sections with the top of the belt completely worn away. Gotta love the 1998 toyota.
Dear Peter,Thank you for this tutorial.. I find it most useful to change the Drive Belt on my Toyota 1994.. Indeed very helpful to show the engine number! Your style of teaching is quite impressive!
Never did much DYI work on my car other than change out the struts, oil changes, and some exchanging of power steeling fluid and brake fluid. Just basic stuff. This video was helpful. My neighbor who is a toyota mechanic says there is a special tool made just for loosening the belt on my 99 Corolla. There is a weird bolt that needs to come off ; and the representative at the Toyota parts dept told me they do not sell the tool to customers and it can only be bought by a service person at Snap-On. I'd like to change this belt ASAP.
Thank You very much Mr. Finn, I have Learned A Lot From You Keep up the good work. Please guide me how to replace the timing belt on this Toyota Corolla. Years 1991 to 2000 Thank you.
Many thanks for this video, it is carefully shot and very precise in explaining the task. It was particularly helpful to me in tightening my serpentine belt. Thank you very much for taking the time and doing such a great job in putting this video up. cheers, Allen N
First of all thanks for all of your tutorials. They are very easy to follow. Do you have any tutorials on how to replace the power steering drive belt. I don't know how to loosen the pulley. Thanks again.
Hey Peter. thanks for the video, helped me replace my V belt and the VP/WP belt. Also I was wondering if the website shown is for mechanics or if you could possibly share that? It looks very useful! Thanks again
Access to the two bolts on my Corolla is blocked by what I think is the AC compressor. As a result, it's going to make for a tight squeeze as I can't see either bolt (from either the top or bottom.)
Hello everyone who can help. I have a 96 Corolla 1.8, the alt belt snapped last night and I replaced it after replacing I started the car and immediate squealing followed by the belt getting extremely hot. all the pulleys are moving and the belt isn’t too tight, I have no idea what could cause this. Also the belt is routed the correct way… double checked with a diagram. If anybody could help would be awesome!!!!
Anyone with a 1995 Toyota Corolla DX 1.8L 4-Speed like me, see this thread for your AC belt: www.toyotanation.com/forum/130-7th-generation-1993-1997/1395138-1995-dx-1-8l-serpentine-belt-confusion.html#post11651674

Apparently, my car requires a 19mm female bit torx socket to take off the drive belt. Thank you for your video.@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor

Hi Peter, if my mechanic is doing my timing belt, would it save me money by having him do my other belts at the same time? (they are all worn).
+Michael Cacioppo Yes, they save money. :-)

You use 100 fragments of words for a 3 word sentence.
Hello peter. I have 1996 Corolla. I can't find crankshaft position sensor, and you don't have video for it..
You don't have this
Access to the two bolts on my Corolla is blocked by what I think is the AC compressor. As a result, it's going to make for a tight squeeze as I can't see either bolt (from either the top or bottom.)
