After Jordin won season six, we've waited six years for another girl to win 'American Idol,' but by the time Candice won season 12, I gave up on the show by then! I was cheering for Angie to win season 12 as she wrote her own songs and had star quality. Candice could sing well but Angie was the star that season and I would’ve preferred a Angie/Candice finale over a Candice/Kree finale. It felt rigged when Angie got eliminated so Candice could easily win.
I disagree with Joey Cook, Dalton Rapattoni & Bo Bice. Carrie was the right pick based on what she has done in the industry. I think for Season 10 it should have been Haley Reinhart vs. Lauren Alaina in the finale. Toss up on how that would have gone.

Glad someone else chose Bo over Carrie! Looking back on her performances on the show, you could tell she had an amazing voice, and it’s no surprise she became the star she is. But she lacked confidence and stage presence, and Bo was the real standout for me that season. I’m glad she won though, because if she hadn’t, she might not be the legend she is and deserves to be today. Also, season 14 should’ve been Clark Beckham. Joey had a cool style and was fun to watch, but Clark was probably one of the most technically gifted singers in the last 4 seasons.
I think Bo was the more consistent performer over Carrie, but for me, Carrie had that "it" factor that Bo just didn't really have. Season 4 was the first full season I watched in real time, and Carrie really did have that special something from the beginning; she was my favorite the whole way through.

I realize you based this on a poll, so not trying to start a fight LOL. I disagree with a few of these, most notably season 8. America likes to see contestants who show growth and originality. Lambert was good at doing one particular thing every week, but Kris Allen actually came up with new arrangements for songs and gained new fans throughout the competition. (Same with Jessica Sanchez, she was great vocally but usually stayed in the big ballad box.) Kris (and David Cook and Phillip Phillips) took everything from disco to hip-hop to country and made it their own, helped along by their instruments. America also loves an underdog; Kris Allen was unheard of before the semi-finals whereas the producers heavily promoted Lambert. I think it's important to remember that winning isn't always the best outcome for a contestant. If Chris Daughtry or Bo Bice or Adam Lambert had won, they would have to release one of those cheesy winner's songs and make a crappy album with Clive Davis. Lambert couldn't have become the frontman of Queen if he were bound to a contract with AI! Their careers are better off now because they're free to do what they want. I didn't watch seasons 13 and after so I can't really speak about those.
I just commented that I agreed with everything in the video from the seasons I watched, but, you make a great point about Kris Allen! I forgot how innovative and original he was with his song choices. He was a solid winner!

Ok, it's one thing saying Kris Allen deserved to win season 8. I actually agree with your opinion on him in how original and brilliant and underrated he is. Hell, I'd go as far as to say that he's imo the 2nd best male winner in the history of the show, only behind David Cook. And I think he often gets an unfair assessment since he shockingly beat Adam Lambert. That being said, however, your statement of "Lambert was good at doing one particular thing every week" is very loaded and makes me think you weren't even watching the season LMAO. The judges said multiple times throughout the season that Adam was the most original contestant the show has ever seen. Literally every single week he took a song and did something new with it, that was his specialty and what made the season so exciting to watch before Kris also became a contender with Ain't No Sunshine. And you're totally discounting that which I think is incorrect and unfair. And unlike winners like Phillip and Kris (prior to Ain't No Sunshine) who were often very inconsistent with their original covers, sometimes at the cost of an actual good vocal LOL, Adam was always consistently original and completely in a different league vocally. In fact, it's pretty widely known knowledge that the main reason Adam lost wasn't even completely because of Kris' growth narrative, though that certainly didn't help. At the top 5 week, VFTW (Vote For The Worst) released photos of Adam kissing another man, outing him as gay, since he never discussed it on the show. Hence why he was randomly in the bottom 2 with Matt that week out of nowhere. They made a point of highlighting those photos again come finale week and outwardly showed support for Kris as a result. And it ended up making a difference as Kris ended up winning. Even though I am a bigger Adam fan, Kris still deserved to win. Every winner deserved to win since they were able to get the votes to do so. But I also think it's important to acknowledge HOW they won. Not to knock Kris too hard though, I still think he's excellent and although I would've given it to Adam, I agree that we had the right final 2 that season. And like you said, there's benefits for artists like Adam for not winning, as winning Idol didn't get in the way of him becoming the front man of Queen. So it is a give and take world indeed.
Season 1 I think all of America knew Kelly should’ve won. Season 2 for me was a tossup but I could see Ruben winning it more than Clay. Season 3 for me is Fantasia. Season 4 should be Carrie Underwood considering her career launched off into superstardom very quickly. Season 5 should’ve been Chris Daughtry Season 6 Jordin Sparks Season 7 David Cook Season 8 I think both could do well with the title. Season 9 should be Lee, Season 10 Scotty McCreery Season 11 Phillip Phillips, Season 12 Candice Glover, Season 13 Alex Caleb or Jena, Season 14 Clark Beckham and Season 15 Trent Harmon respectively for me.
Season 5 was the first year I watched AI, and it was super entertaining. Ace, Kelli Pickler, Daughtry, Taylor, Paris and even Katherine were talented and full of personality. Was a Daughtry fan at first, and then he just sounded the same each time, and became boring and bleating to me. Eventually, I actually got behind Taylor… appreciated his originality and sheer guts and his surprising voice. Too bad the “industry” could not back him as an artist (he has done fine for himself, though, in other areas…). I feel the same way about season 8 with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Adam, undeniably great voice, but wound up sounding bleating to me, as well! Allison I and Kris Allen were the most natural and growing performers that year. Big Kris fan for his ability to write AND perform. Should have had more industry support (Y’all should check out his 2nd album, Thank You, Camellia…so good).

Sonika should have won season 15. Dalton was very overrated. Season 15 was just another “let’s vote for the cute guy” season. They had dalton, Mackenzie, Trent …. Overrated top 5.

Maybe I should throw out some unpopular ideas for fun. I loved Taylor Hicks, but I never expected him to win. Kat or Chris should have won. Season 4 was loaded with stars. Constantine was my personal favorite because I don't care for country. Carrie is exceptional though. Season 2 I think the right person won. Season 3, I preferred Latoya over Diana and Fantasia. Adam Lambert not only should have won, he is the best living singer that I know of in the world right now. Not bitter though. He is better off without them. LaPorsha dominated her season and should have won hands down. Jax over Nick David A over David C, but I'm glad for D.A. that he didn't win. Jena over Caleb, I saw this top 10 concert and Jena was jaw-droppingly good! Caleb was better in person than on TV. Their duets were great. So tired of the white guys beating the better men of color and women in general.
I agree with most of the list I didn't watch past 9 some of 10 and 11. I did watch 12 and only 15 cause it was the last season til the no ask for reboot. I don't see why anyone liked Hailey from season 10, she growled too much and was full of herself thus her boot. Tamyra from season 1 should have been in the finale, her and Kelly were great, but Tamyra was very talented. Latoya or JHud could have been in the finale for season 3. Vonzell from season 4 was awesome and should have been in the finale. Lee from season 9 was so unforgettable and not sure how he won. Angie Miller from Season 12 should have been in Kree's spot but I get the sympathy vote. LaPorcha from Season 15 was good but the season overall was just blah, Trent got too many chances and relied heavily on sympathy votes as well. Overall the show lost its spark once the original judges left.

I’m just happy that David Cook won in 2008, given his amazing vocal range, talent, kind nature and good looks - really a celebrity material. Just sad that he did not reach the superstar status. But, who knows what the future still holds for him🙏🌈🤞
I stopped watching after season 11, but I 100% agree with the choices from those seasons. Although I did vote for Ruben to win back in 2003 (nearly 19 years ago-I’m getting old), in retrospect, I agree that Clay should have won. Maybe I should have listened to my mom then-she was a total “Claymate.” 😂 Side note-I’m so annoyed that I missed season 12! It had an all female Top 5, which I was dreaming of for years. Of course it happened the season after I gave up!
I've heard that Clay actually got more votes than Ruben, but they weren't counted because of dropped calls and jammed phone lines. Not sure whether it's true or urban legend. I loved both of those guys, I personally consider that season a tie.

Season 1 - Kelly OR Tamyra! I also wanted to add that Tamyra was on Kelly’s behind week after week! Even her weakest performance stood toe to toe with Kelly and I think that producers felt that had they allowed Tamyra to KEEP excelling, she would’ve been a major threat for Kelly during the final 2! She very much so could’ve won that season hands down so after she was eliminated in fourth place, the rest of the competition was easily Kelly’s! Season 2 - I had to rewatched this entire season and though a lot of people were saying that Clay should’ve won, I truly understand why America voted for Reuban to be the winner. Clay is an exceptional vocalist and he gave great options as far as genres. He could’ve worked well in pop, Broadway, or possibly country. However, Reuban had a FRESHNESS to his voice. He sang his ass off as well. Runs were always spot on, and he knew how to give power and also knew how to really milk a song from beginning to end. I think he was important to show that you can be a black male artist in R&B, be cool and relatable, and also stand flat foot and SING! His finale single was so powerful and it touches me every time I hear it! Season 3- Fantasia!! However, Latoya London could’ve taken the title or should’ve been given the second place spot! LaToya, from a Technical standpoint, was the best vocalist in season 3!! She was so good that she could’ve been place in the first and fourth season and could’ve possibly been a huge threat to A LOT of singers. She was accurate, and she made me FEEL when she opened her mouth! Fantasia made me feel as well and she could just flat out SING!! This was personally my favorite season of Idol! Season 4 - PERFECT WINNER!! Carrie Underwood sang her butt off and excelled week after week! She is the first real female, country, powerhouse vocalist that took American Idol by storm! She had great control of her voice and she picked the right songs! The only thing I wish had happened this season was a sing off between Carrie and Vonzell in the final 2!! That would’ve been the best final 2 in idol history and I still would’ve been perfectly fine with Underwood taking the title! Season 5 - Katharine McPhee!! OR Mandisa Season 6 - Jordan Sparks!! Such a powerhouse and a versatile vocalist! Her upper belts and the way she sustains her notes are to die for!! Her first two albums are EVERYTHING!! Season 7 - Excellent Choice! David Cook deserved his title! Would’ve loved to have seen David Cook vs Syesha in the final two! Season 8 - A complete JOKE of a winner! Kris Allen was basic and mediocre as hell and should not have been given a title that he clearly didn’t deserve! Adam Lambert OR Allison Iraheta should’ve won! Season 9 - ANOTHER JOKE ! I was cheering for Angie to win season 12 as she wrote her own songs and had star quality. Candice could sing well but Angie was the star that season and I would’ve preferred a Angie/Candice finale over a Candice/Kree finale. It felt rigged when Angie got eliminated so Candice could easily win.

Glad someone else chose Bo over Carrie! Looking back on her performances on the show, you could tell she had an amazing voice, and it’s no surprise she became the star she is. But she lacked confidence and stage presence, and Bo was the real standout for me that season. I’m glad she won though, because if she hadn’t, she might not be the legend she is and deserves to be today.
Also, season 14 should’ve been Clark Beckham. Joey had a cool style and was fun to watch, but Clark was probably one of the most technically gifted singers in the last 4 seasons.

I think Bo was the more consistent performer over Carrie, but for me, Carrie had that "it" factor that Bo just didn't really have. Season 4 was the first full season I watched in real time, and Carrie really did have that special something from the beginning; she was my favorite the whole way through.

I realize you based this on a poll, so not trying to start a fight LOL. I disagree with a few of these, most notably season 8.
America likes to see contestants who show growth and originality. Lambert was good at doing one particular thing every week, but Kris Allen actually came up with new arrangements for songs and gained new fans throughout the competition. (Same with Jessica Sanchez, she was great vocally but usually stayed in the big ballad box.) Kris (and David Cook and Phillip Phillips) took everything from disco to hip-hop to country and made it their own, helped along by their instruments. America also loves an underdog; Kris Allen was unheard of before the semi-finals whereas the producers heavily promoted Lambert.
I think it's important to remember that winning isn't always the best outcome for a contestant. If Chris Daughtry or Bo Bice or Adam Lambert had won, they would have to release one of those cheesy winner's songs and make a crappy album with Clive Davis. Lambert couldn't have become the frontman of Queen if he were bound to a contract with AI! Their careers are better off now because they're free to do what they want.

I just commented that I agreed with everything in the video from the seasons I watched, but, you make a great point about Kris Allen! I forgot how innovative and original he was with his song choices. He was a solid winner!

Ok, it's one thing saying Kris Allen deserved to win season 8. I actually agree with your opinion on him in how original and brilliant and underrated he is. Hell, I'd go as far as to say that he's imo the 2nd best male winner in the history of the show, only behind David Cook. And I think he often gets an unfair assessment since he shockingly beat Adam Lambert. That being said, however, your statement of "Lambert was good at doing one particular thing every week" is very loaded and makes me think you weren't even watching the season LMAO. The judges said multiple times throughout the season that Adam was the most original contestant the show has ever seen. Literally every single week he took a song and did something new with it, that was his specialty and what made the season so exciting to watch before Kris also became a contender with Ain't No Sunshine. And you're totally discounting that which I think is incorrect and unfair. And unlike winners like Phillip and Kris (prior to Ain't No Sunshine) who were often very inconsistent with their original covers, sometimes at the cost of an actual good vocal LOL, Adam was always consistently original and completely in a different league vocally. In fact, it's pretty widely known knowledge that the main reason Adam lost wasn't even completely because of Kris' growth narrative, though that certainly didn't help. At the top 5 week, VFTW (Vote For The Worst) released photos of Adam kissing another man, outing him as gay, since he never discussed it on the show. Hence why he was randomly in the bottom 2 with Matt that week out of nowhere. They made a point of highlighting those photos again come finale week and outwardly showed support for Kris as a result. And it ended up making a difference as Kris ended up winning. Even though I am a bigger Adam fan, Kris still deserved to win. Every winner deserved to win since they were able to get the votes to do so. But I also think it's important to acknowledge HOW they won. Not to knock Kris too hard though, I still think he's excellent and although I would've given it to Adam, I agree that we had the right final 2 that season. And like you said, there's benefits for artists like Adam for not winning, as winning Idol didn't get in the way of him becoming the front man of Queen. So it is a give and take world indeed.
Season 1 I think all of America knew Kelly should’ve won. Season 2 for me was a tossup but I could see Ruben winning it more than Clay. Season 3 for me is Fantasia. Season 4 should be Carrie Underwood considering her career launched off into superstardom very quickly. Season 5 should’ve been Chris Daughtry Season 6 Jordin Sparks Season 7 David Cook Season 8 I think both could do well with the title. Season 9 should be Lee, Season 10 Scotty McCreery Season 11 Phillip Phillips, Season 12 Candice Glover, Season 13 Alex Caleb or Jena, Season 14 Clark Beckham and Season 15 Trent Harmon respectively for me.
Season 5 was the first year I watched AI, and it was super entertaining. Ace, Kelli Pickler, Daughtry, Taylor, Paris and even Katherine were talented and full of personality. Was a Daughtry fan at first, and then he just sounded the same each time, and became boring and bleating to me. Eventually, I actually got behind Taylor… appreciated his originality and sheer guts and his surprising voice. Too bad the “industry” could not back him as an artist (he has done fine for himself, though, in other areas…). I feel the same way about season 8 with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Adam, undeniably great voice, but wound up sounding bleating to me, as well! Allison I and Kris Allen were the most natural and growing performers that year. Big Kris fan for his ability to write AND perform. Should have had more industry support (Y’all should check out his 2nd album, Thank You, Camellia…so good).

Season 4 was loaded with stars. Constantine was my personal favorite because I don't care for country. Carrie is exceptional though.

I agree with most of the list I didn't watch past 9 some of 10 and 11. I did watch 12 and only 15 cause it was the last season til the no ask for reboot. I don't see why anyone liked Hailey from season 10, she growled too much and was full of herself thus her boot. Tamyra from season 1 should have been in the finale, her and Kelly were great, but Tamyra was very talented. Latoya or JHud could have been in the finale for season 3. Vonzell from season 4 was awesome and should have been in the finale. Lee from season 9 was so unforgettable and not sure how he won. Angie Miller from Season 12 should have been in Kree's spot but I get the sympathy vote. LaPorcha from Season 15 was good but the season overall was just blah, Trent got too many chances and relied heavily on sympathy votes as well. Overall the show lost its spark once the original judges left.
Tbh they were probably already thinking of handing the show to another network when they "cancelled" it in 2016.

I stopped watching after season 11, but I 100% agree with the choices from those seasons. Although I did vote for Ruben to win back in 2003 (nearly 19 years ago-I’m getting old), in retrospect, I agree that Clay should have won. Maybe I should have listened to my mom then-she was a total “Claymate.” 😂
Side note-I’m so annoyed that I missed season 12! It had an all female Top 5, which I was dreaming of for years. Of course it happened the season after I gave up!
I've heard that Clay actually got more votes than Ruben, but they weren't counted because of dropped calls and jammed phone lines. Not sure whether it's true or urban legend. I loved both of those guys, I personally consider that season a tie.
You didnt miss much. Season 12 was one of the worst. Angie and Candace were highlights though.

Season 1 - Kelly OR Tamyra! I also wanted to add that Tamyra was on Kelly’s behind week after week! Even her weakest performance stood toe to toe with Kelly and I think that producers felt that had they allowed Tamyra to KEEP excelling, she would’ve been a major threat for Kelly during the final 2! She very much so could’ve won that season hands down so after she was eliminated in fourth place, the rest of the competition was easily Kelly’s!
Season 2 - I had to rewatched this entire season and though a lot of people were saying that Clay should’ve won, I truly understand why America voted for Reuban to be the winner. Clay is an exceptional vocalist and he gave great options as far as genres. He could’ve worked well in pop, Broadway, or possibly country. However, Reuban had a FRESHNESS to his voice. He sang his ass off as well. Runs were always spot on, and he knew how to give power and also knew how to really milk a song from beginning to end. I think he was important to show that you can be a black male artist in R&B, be cool and relatable, and also stand flat foot and SING! His finale single was so powerful and it touches me every time I hear it!
Season 3- Fantasia!! However, Latoya London could’ve taken the title or should’ve been given the second place spot! LaToya, from a Technical standpoint, was the best vocalist in season 3!! She was so good that she could’ve been place in the first and fourth season and could’ve possibly been a huge threat to A LOT of singers. She was accurate, and she made me FEEL when she opened her mouth! Fantasia made me feel as well and she could just flat out SING!! This was personally my favorite season of Idol!
Season 4 - PERFECT WINNER!! Carrie Underwood sang her butt off and excelled week after week! She is the first real female, country, powerhouse vocalist that took American Idol by storm! She had great control of her voice and she picked the right songs! The only thing I wish had happened this season was a sing off between Carrie and Vonzell in the final 2!! That would’ve been the best final 2 in idol history and I still would’ve been perfectly fine with Underwood taking the title!
Season 5 - Katharine McPhee!! OR Mandisa
Season 6 - Jordan Sparks!! Such a powerhouse and a versatile vocalist! Her upper belts and the way she sustains her notes are to die for!! Her first two albums are EVERYTHING!!
Season 7 - Excellent Choice! David Cook deserved his title! Would’ve loved to have seen David Cook vs Syesha in the final two!
Season 8 - A complete JOKE of a winner! Kris Allen was basic and mediocre as hell and should not have been given a title that he clearly didn’t deserve! Adam Lambert OR Allison Iraheta should’ve won!
Season 9 - ANOTHER JOKE ! Crystal Bowersox was amazing and different!
Season 10 - Lauren Alaina, Pia Toscano, or Haley Reinhart
Season 11 - Jessica Sanchez or Joshua Ledet
Season 12 - Candiace Glover was the perfect choice! She and Amber Holcomb in the final two would’ve been a night to remember!! Also, Angie Miller is excellent as well.
Season 13 - Caleb is an excellent singer! He’s a powerhouse rock vocalist with great control, range, and he has some soul to his voice! I really enjoy Jena Irene and she’s sooo quirky, indie, and powerful all in one! She was a true artist so I would’ve been fine with either one of them winning!
Season 14 - Joey Cook or Rayvaughn!!
Season 15 - Olivia Rox, Sonika Vaid, or LaPorsha Reneé!!
