@@BLAZINGKNIGHT50 Oh good, I was afraid there a little. Hey, since I got a reply from THE Blazing Knight himself(OMGHOMGH), I'm gonna drop my opinion "short"(I'm sorry). Long story short, I think Three Houses is a solid 8/10(8.5 if I'm being kind), while the game has its obvious "Fire Emblem Problems", I think the franchise haded in the right direction with this one, and Three Houses sales should tell IS that. My favourite interaction(Ship? Pairing?) between the characters has to between Byleth and Sothis. Putting a hot topic about Sothis age/child appereance(Which is a Nowi all over again...), and Byleth silent protagonist status aside, I really liked their interaction! Byleth brooding but caring guy(girl) to Sothis brash but wise girl, made a pretty good combo in my opinion! *Sigh* Unfortunately, Sothis vanished from the second half of the game (SPOILERS! although in her S-Support it's implied that she could return at any moment if she wanted, but decided to lie to Byleth about her vanishing after their fusion, in order to allow them to live their life on their own and how they want, but decide to return to them when she realize that Byleth misses Sothis SPOILERS! ), and Byleth and Sothis S-Support made people uncomfortable. Which made her pretty underrated, I can hope that in one of the DLC waves/Updates, IS will give Sothis justice.
BLAZINGKNIGHT Love your videos. For me I find the priest time skip more enjoyable than the post time skip usually. That might be mostly because I’m spending a lot of time attempting to recruit the other students through the normal means with the exception of my favorites. Even then I don’t use the new game plus feature to rank their supports only my weapon ranks Also I’m presuming you’re going to do something like a top 10 characters and all of three houses but will you include the DLC characters in that list? I’m only asking because Jeritza is a crimson flower exclusive.

I'm in shock at Hubert being so low, I felt him as the genderswapped tharja and he was just so entertaining. Though I may be biased because I find his support with my favourite; bernie, to be hilarious and adorable.
I was really surprised about this too. Hubert is both a great character and a fantastic unit. Being the only male Dark Magic user, he can actually class into Dark Mage and Dark Bishop without issue (and yes, Intrinsic Fiendish Blow from Dark Bishop and Fiendish Blow from Mastering Mage DO STACK). Dark Magic is also far more useful on Maddening than Black Magic (which is the worst form of damage output in the game due to limited uses and no Combat Arts, as well as 0 side effects), which classes him above Dorothea and Linhardt (though the latter is likely your dedicated healer/Warp unit and will only see combat occasionally and Dorothea can alleviate the weaknesses of Black Magic by being tailor-made to the Dancer Class, while also having access to Hexblade). And while you can class him into a Dark Knight (his best Master Class), another thing you can make use of is his Boon in Bows. Not only does this Boon give him the highly valued Hit+20 skill by Mastering Archer, but Mastering the Sniper class and giving him a Magic Bow allows him to use Hunter's Volley to output DISGUSTING levels of magic damage. He's one of the few Mages that has an easy time accomplishing this (the others being Mercedes and Hanneman).

She's not even that bad. It's not her fault the devs gave her no screen time and only two supports. Seriously her and Kliff should have been forced into Alm's party as well to appear in cutscenes. Sure they can go with Celica but there's little benefit for them there and they then go completely mute.
Ethan They're all supposed to be childhood friends but we know nothing about Faye's relationship with any of them (even the root of her feelings for alm and the time they spent together isn't touched upon. If that's going to be her entire character you could at least develop THAT right ffs.) and Kliff's relationship with Gray and for the most part Alm. (Though at least his base conversations give a bit to work with.) Edit: Or what Faye, Kliff, Gray and Tobin think of Celica. The most interesting we get is that Faye is actually on good terms with her or at least she appears to be.
While the Blue Lions are not bad, they are not the most attractive group. To be honest Dimitri carries the entire team, while the rest of thr houses have more than one.
Also, I wholeheartedly agree with the characters being great. Unlike the 3DS games, which had at least 1 character that was written really badly, there is not a single character I find in 3 Houses to be badly written. While Cyril and Rhea are also my least favorite characters, I still like them and think they are characters written very well.
You could make her a Mortal Savant so she can use Aura Gauntlets. And though nothing's confirmed yet, Dataminers have found another class which can use both Magic and Gauntlets.
For me my list goes 8. Caspar, he is just ehhhh 7. Lindhart, I love that he is a sleepy sheepy boy and he is great but still I have to put him somewhere 6. Bernie, she is cool and cute but also Yikes 5. Dorothea, she is cute and I like her character but she feels, underwhelming 4. Ferdinand, I AM FERDINAND VON AIGER 3. Hubert, I love his character and all he does plus that voice, omg 2. Edelgard, she is good lord and follows her ideals she is great but she isn't... 1. Petra, Petra is best girl and best unit and i love her omg omg omg top 4 overall units in game actually good (no byleth or lords)
I, too, started with Black Eagles, and have an immense bias towards them..with a few outside exceptions (Lysithea, Hilda, Felix). As such, here's my top: 8 - Caspar, he started to fall off late game and his personality came off too strong for me at times. Still love him though. 7 - Hubert, an absolute monster on the battlefield and I was just waiting for him to betray us at some point. Never happened. 6 - Ferdinand, the shield of the group with a personality that rubs off on you and someone you come to deeply respect. 5 - Dorothea, I admit that I didn't like her personality as much as you did but she was a dervish-dancer and felt very relateable. 4 - Linhardt, The lazy genius and softest of the boys who I found quite entertaining every time he spoke. 3 - Petra, crazy strong in battle and crazy well put together character wise; the most interesting Black Eagle imo. 2 - Bernadetta, she killed The Immaculate one by shooting her six times in one turn..when I was trying to give Edelgard the kill. 1 - Edelgard, immensely strong in both character and determination (not to mention in battle; good lord Hector would be proud)..with just enough fragility and remorse to remind you that she's still human, and quite emotional at that. I married her, and if I were asked if I'd do it again after playing and seeing the rest of the paths..you can bet your last gold piece that I still would.
Just curious: How did Caspar fall off late game for you? Cause if you're talking about how he is as a unit he gets an insane crit rate on the war master path.
The problem that I had with Caspar was that, even though I was going the War Master path with him, it was very difficult to get him kills..so by end game, he never got there, especially since Crimson Flower is so short. He always came up just short of being able to ORKO, and he was too squishy for me to put him in danger. He had surprisingly low AS and defense, and just being a sack of hit points wasn't good enough against late game Falcon Knights, Assassins, and Swordmasters..which 3H -loves- to throw at you. And like, him versus the magic damage 1 to 3 range golems? No way. However, one thing I will say is that this post was made back when I had only beaten the game twice and before I had all of this cool DLC and such..so now that I'm a lot more knowledgeable about the game, I'm sure that I'd have a much easier time using him.
@@chandlerholloway2047 i like using caspar, but you summed up the problems. he has all the shortcomings of a fighter. sure, he hits hard, but his low speed and defenses means his mountain of HP goes down fast. fortunately, gauntlets help with his speed problem. still edelgard lite in gameplay though
I didn't fully love Edelgard's character until I played the Blue Lions and Black Eagles route, some of Edelgard's past is mentioned during the blue lions route and once you played the Black Eagles route, it comes together in a full circle as you piece together the clues, to get the full picture, and thats when I really loved Edelgard as a character. Dorothea also become my favorite character for mostly the same reasons as you described in the video. Can't wait for the Blue Lions and Golden Deer versions of this video
@@UltimusTerminus For me, I love her as an antagonist and as the villain of the game. Like to me she is irredeemable, but that makes her a great villain. One you can understand...but think is just extremely flawed. But sadly, many think she is a hero or will help the world when in truth, she is just a puppet to the Slither in the dark.
@@jjmara01 That's a good description. Maybe the reason I didn't enjoy Crimson flower (I completed it as a third route) was mainly because I just didn't see Rhea as a villain like Edelgard in other routes.
I cannot deny that the Black Eagles have endeared themselves to me from the minute I met them at the Officers Academy. Right now they stand amongst the Awakening and Fates: Conquest casts in regards of how much I love them. Personally I would put my favourites in a different order to you but what matters is that we like them. If I were to list my favourites (starting from least and ending with most favourite) it would be this: 8) Linhardt von Hevring. 7) Caspar von Bergliez. 6) Bernadetta von Varley. 5) Petra Macneary. 4) Dorothea Arnault. 3) Ferdinand von Aegir. 2) Hubert von Vestra. 1) Edelgard von Hresvelg. My List BE: Caspar - interested in him when I saw the second Trailer but found him boring compared to the rest of the classmates. Ferdinand - after getting pass the nobility which like you said exasperating I actually like him challenging Eli and his support w Dorothy, And Manuela Bern - I understand her story and her Byleth and Dorothy are charming I do found annoyed going thru her C support(Burnout) Herbert/Lindhart - I can never choose one over than other I love the quip they give the other students but While Lin is relatable Hubert intrigued my sarcasm Petra - Honestly at first I wasn't hype about her when I first saw her but she has been or less my best unit and I love the direction they took her character Eli- I understand her motivation and great unit. She does show regret and does tried to be the leader her classmates could rely on even tho she knows this trails is going to be paved in blood Dorothea- hands my favorite character and waifu on BE route. One of the most beautiful female in Fe (My opinion ). Loved all the supports that involve her

Between the absolute Starfire(from the Teen Titans cartoon) vibes she gave me, to having some great interactions with her fellow Black Eagles and of course, her total battlefield dominance, she's always gonna sneak onto any playthrough of mine. Linhardt resonates with me due to his ideology being exactly like my autism. I can focus incredibly on things I'm interested in, but when it's something I don't care much for... Let's just say there's a reason I almost failed geography in my second year of high school...
Ok. I didn't relate to Linhardt at all, but autism is different for each person, right? In my perspective, Linhardt was kind of a prick. Kind of an understandable prick, but a prick nonetheless.
I'm not gonna nag him, I know they will come eventually, I would rather have a high quality video than a rushed one. I really appreciate the effort that goes into these.
It's rather unfortunate then that the Black Eagles' possibly contains the worst story route for Three Houses. Crimson Flower is just inadequate, especially if you compare it to Azure Moon or Verdant Wind. Hell, even Silver Snow is better. It really does feel like IS didn't have enough time to finish writing the 'evil' story-line, so they simply threw a brunch of filler until it finally created.. something.

I'll disagree. While some shit does happen in VW and SS, it's all forshadowed or explained retroactively. Crimson Flower is both too short, and doesn't even focus on the true evil of Fodlan (that being TwSitD) It also lacks animated cutscenes where they really should be (Dimitri's death anyone?)

I did find myself liking a lot of the Black Eagle students, even the ones that I didn't think I would. I'm still definitely a Blue Lion (Dimitri was my first husband, and in my Black Eagle path I chose Ashe), and I prefer Dimitri's story over Edelgard's, but I do see things to like in the Black Eagles.
Well i'm in the opposite case : i'm more a Black Eagle (or a Golden Deer in some occasions) but holy crap, i think the characters in the Blue Lions are freaking amazing (especially Felix and Sylvain which are with Edelgard my favorite characters in the entire game). Still, between the fact that Edelgard is the main enemy, the fact that think some fire emblems's campaigns tend to drag on for nothing and the fact i think nobles have too much power at the end, i can't really bring myself to choose Dimitri. That being said, i don't hate his character at all and i do think he's well written.
@@Harakengard I can get why you prefer Black Eagles. I do agree that Felix and Sylvain have a lot going for them too (Felix is also one of my top characters). I actually preferred Blue Lion’s path bring longer than Black Eagles, as I felt Black Eagles ended too early. I also think Edelgard needed more time to make her argument, but that’s just me.

My rankings of the Black Eagles house: *Huge spoilers!* 8. Hubert: While I find his blind allegiance to Edelgard to be a bit annoying, his supports show some depth to him. He doesn't have that deep of a reason to follow her, but does have his own views on her allies and respects them as individuals. He's definitely a glass cannon, but we already have Lysithea for that. Hubert far from a bad unit, but works better as support. Plus Robbie Daymond is doing a wayyyyy better performance than in Echoes - he should voice Dracula! 7. Caspar: Yeah he should be the mc of a Shounen series, and his conversations makes that very clear. But it's not run to the ground, and his supports give an extra layer of character on top of outward personality. Caspar is obviously a close quarters tank. Make him a Grappler, Warrior and Swordmaster and he's set for the entire game. 6. Linhardt: I didn't expect much from him. I. Was. Stupid. This guy's supports are insightful, relatable and he discovered plot threats before me! His magic stats are well balanced, with either magics being ideal for him and his growth rates make them worth the effort. 5. Ferdinand: When I started playing as F Byleth (habit in FE games), I didn't think it would cause any problems. Then Jeralt gave Byleth her mother's ring. *OH SHIT! I DON'T HAVE A HUSBANDO!* I knew I could've chosen a gay option, but there are so many Waifus that it seemed too obvious. That's when Ferdie comes in! He's a stuck up noble who clearly doesn't know how to socialise, but he has good reason. He doesn't believe what his father did to Edelgard's father was right, so Ferdie wants to become the quintessential noble to change peoples views on them. And he learns very well from mistakes, taking responsibility and gains something from the experience. And you can feel Billy Kametz understands and grows with him. Riding units are the most ideal for him, but he can be handy with a bow and magic if you want to and your exp will not be wasted on him. Therefore, he is the one to stand side by side with Byleth! (Ally and husbando) 4. Bernadette: Like Caspar, she has anime traits that feel out of place. Especially since her paranoia doesn't mash well with the 'shy, but cute' look they're going with. But her supports reveal that she's constantly trying to break out of that shell, which is a very touching story that can hit home. Obviously her strength is in bows, so make her Pegasus, Wyvern or cavalier unit and she's indestructible. Plus Erica Mendez. Instant like! 3. Dorothea: Honestly I'm not sure if the developers knew if she should be a seductive or supportive big sis. Although Dorothea being the only commoner (story wise) doesn't effect her relationships, it's clear she's hiding deep scars of her past. But she won't allow that to get in the way of her friendship, and in the end she loves her friends. She's the best magic unit, as she gains some great spells and her growth rates make her useful in other classes. And Allegra Clark can sing and voice Shamir! 2. Petra: The second I heard of her, I thought they'd make her speak broken English in a stereotyped voice because FE has done it before. They even gave her a Kansai accent in the Japanese version (common way to depict foreigners there). Instead, the English version is much more realistic. Petra makes grammatical errors, but she constantly tries to fix it. That's because she tries to everything well, with mostly good results. And it's because she wants to prove that she can be a great queen. She's well aware of her country's situation, and wants to fix it by learning to become a great ruler and building better diplomatic relationships. Even when Caspar learns his father killed her father, Petra still values her friendship with Adrestians both on personal and professional levels. Her best stats are in physical units, but I made her a bow wielding Pegasus Knight because I can. And props for Faye Mata doing foreigners justice! 1. Edelgard: Is this any surprise? A magic and physical powerhouse, good set of skills and definitely a unit for the front lines. Yeah her reasons for starting the war isn't completely justified, especially since some of her reasons are misunderstandings. But clearly it's because she doesn't have the best advisers (not Hubert), and she doesn't like killing in the least. She's merciful, values her friends and loved ones, doesn't do it for own selfish reasons and is the most bad ass lord in the game! Why her route is shorter than others, I don't know. And honestly the Verdant Wind route is the best. But I loved Edelgard's route and her character, and I wouldn't change much of because I love her that much! (Female or male!) And it proves FE can and will have developed 'villains'! Side note: I love the Blue Lions just as much, but your first pick always have nostalgic value. The Golden Deers aren't half bad.
Ferdinand stuck up? I can see that from Lorenz, but Ferdinand? Why? A stuck up person would refuse to do any menial task, saying it's beneath him, but Ferdinand doesn't shy away from such things and even enjoys them: cleaning up, pulling weeds, helping with hard labor, picking up groceries and so on and so forth. He would do and has done any menial task under the sun to set an example to nobles and commoners alike, and he's always so eager and energetic in anything he does. His support with Dorothea is especially impressive in this regard: he gets a job to earn money so that he could buy flour (which I believe he grinded himself) and ingredients just so that he could bake her some pastries. I found Hubert a bit crappy at Part One but after the time skip, he turned into one of my favorite male characters because I enjoyed his B & A supports very much :D

As he started off a bit low on bases but he can still fight pretty well and his commander helps everyone a lot. Oh, also he gets some personal weapons that allow him to become really good in fact, he one of the most balanced Lords in the series as yea he mounted but in Berwick Saga mounted classes got nerf heavily with the whole buying horses, how they can die, and terrain. Even so, he isn't super weak like...Roy, as he can still put some work and his promotion, helps him a lot. As for his character, it really good as Reese might look boring but my god I was wrong. As in the story he is faced with so many conflicts that he has to deal with. As for example, he has the face the reality of war and how it affects people...as unlike in other Fire Emblem Games, we can talk to NPC within the Hub area. Also, it does pull the whole Conquest storyline where they had a King that they can't oppose but yet they continue to serve him...however, Berwick Saga, it does it a million times better! As Reese is just a Lord son and therefore doesn't have a lot a problem also they had no choice but to serve him as the Raze Empire is just banging on their doorstep. I won't spoil anymore but just know that if you like Fire Emblem 4 story...play Berwick Saga you love it.
Eh, I really liked Raphael, he didn't need a long backstory and anyway isn't his parent dying enough? He's also really good for memes. He was really good for lightening situations and he was just entertaining. But of course you can dislike him if you want Also, he's waifu

Like sure parents died but it barely talked about and...like...what does he teach us? Nothing....he just a nice dude. It's boring and simple. It as simple as "I am a nice dude who lost his parents." like....that it...sure he has his sister but once again like his parents barely talked about. The problem for Raphael is that nothing gets explored at all so he ends up being a flat character. Another character did this job better and without supports. Dean from Berwick Saga...his backstory is really simply where he lost his entire family from the Raze Empire and that he vowed for revenge. Seems simple right? Nope, During a scene Dean vow to kill any Imperial soldiers without any mercy. So when a Priestess name Izerna who he saved earlier from rebels rescued an Imperial Soldiers. He goes nuts and tries to kill him but Izerna stepped in and then just slaps him. Dean was shocked when Izerna starts crying and ask her why she is crying. She replied "Come here you two" Izerna drags them both into the graveyard and ask the Imperial to reveal his backstory which is just like Dean...his family was also killed but this time by the League...he also vowed for revenge just like Dean. Dean realized that...he part the cycle of revenge and that...the war is going to create more people crying for revenge. Izerna soon asked Dean what would he do if killed every Imperial soldiers and for the first time Dean was at a loss of words. See...this character Dean seems simple alongside his backstory but they explored it and gave us a strong message about the cycle of revenge. Like we have to keep mind that Dean is in a game that doesn't have supports and he only gets...a handful of scenes but even so he is a million times better and is much more interesting then Raphael like...wtf?
*Notices how the Top 4 are all females* I've heard Black Eagles being called the house of Waifus, so this is just one more confirmation lol. While I've heard Blue Eagles being called the House of Husbandos lol. Who knows what Golden Deer have been called.

All I'll say is the following: While I do think she's a well written character, I just CANNOT see myself EVER playing Crimson Flower due to VERY PERSONAL reasons causing me to not be able to justify siding with Edelgard. I can see why other people like her, but I enjoyed her MUCH more when she was a villain on the other routes than when she was the protagonist of her own route (and from what I've seen in Let's Plays would has only soured me on her character).
I dunno, it's still just a game. Strategy games usually offer villain campaigns such as Warcraft or Red Alert and most of the times they are far more evil than what Three Houses gave us with Crimson Flower. I mean, I think Mandalorians are jackasses for setting entire planets on fire, but that doesn't stop me from playing them if given the chance. You do you, but I feel like you're just skipping on content the game provides.
@@extrahachse3118 The problem with that attitude is that the only things I would miss out on experiencing is using Edelgard and Hubert post timeskip (as well as Jeritza) as well as the maps on that route (of which only one is wholly unique) as anything story and support related I can still experience via RUclips. And it also doesn't help that Crimson Flower is the shortest route so if you like experimenting with weird class-character combinations (like I do), you will have less time to do so.

Again, you do you, but I still think your reasons are rather silly. That's like saying you don't wanna play Warcraft's Undead Campaign because all you do is destroy cities and eat people and you don't stand for that as a person. Sounds weird, doesn't it?
@@royalhistorian5109 Still prefer Silver Snow over Crimson Flower as it at least gives me the option to start with BE without siding with Edelgard, provides some neat plot details regarding Byleth and Rhea (who I prefer over Edelgard quite a bit)and an absolute banger of a final map theme (one that I prefer over 'Apex of the World' though less than 'God Shattering Star').
I’ve done a church route Hogwarts run (everyone must be in a magic class, basically any class that can use magic)... I tried to use a mix from all the houses to get as much out of the game as possible (this was done on NG+ only to get every student ASAP). From Black Eagles I used Bernie, Dorathea, and Ferdinand but surprisingly they were most effective in that order (Bernie outperformed most of the canonical mages as mages). Turning Ferdinand into warlock is ok but once he’s a dark Knight Ferdie becomes amazing, he becomes quite tanky for a Mage and while as a mounted Mage he hits hard on both sides of the spectrum. Not an all star member but definitely way better than originally expected Bernie has just been such a god tier unit no matter what role I throw her into, used her in every play though and she stayed as a must have top 3. Archer, Sniper, ending in Bow Knight? Amazing. Mage, Warlock, ending in Dark Knight raising faith on the side? Ridiculous. Flyer... that’s self explanatory. She is honestly one of the best characters in the game
Honestly, I can’t call Edelgard a villain with how bad she feels about what happens in the war she declares- I can only go as far as to call her an antagonist at the end of the day (even then, I would say the true main villain at the end of the day is, spoilers... Thales since he manipulated Edelgard into doing so many bad things. If we had gotten the chance to see Edelgard react to the day we can finally kill the Agarthans once and for all after everything they did, then the CF could have been my favorite story route even if it was shorter than the other routes... however, since killing the Agarthans for good is relegated to offscreen only, which is somewhat mitigated with Jeritza’s additional quest and S rank ending, I can only place the CF route as No 2 after the BL story)
The correct term for this kind of situations is "antagonist", and if that character is actually supposed to have some "villany" of them, then the term "Anti-Villain" also works.

Ferdinand's story in Silver Snow cemented his position as one of my favourite Fire Emblem characters of all time. He's the lord we all needed....But not the one we got....

Thank you! As someone that did Golden Deer first, Edelgard is still in the wrong no matter the route. People claim that she cares for her friends but... She is more than willing to attack, even threatens to kill, them if they stand in her way when she steals the Crest Stones. And she holds no hesitation in setting Bernie on fire in a certain chapter if you don't kill her in time. You heard me right. The woman that supposedly cares for her friends. Sets. One. On. FIRE. If you don't recruit her or kill her in time.

Victoria Chamberlain I’m not going to get into the whole edelgard argument since it been talked to death but Bernie cannot be harmed by the flames on that map. Not to mention that she actually mourns her friends’ deaths unlike another lord. She’s not evil by any means.
@@reilie9115 I'm gonna have to stop you right there. Claude DOES mourn the loss of his friends should you defeat them in the Blood of the Eagle and Lion. Dimitri...well he doesn't on the Golden Deer route due to Byleth not being there to fix his mental state, but on the Crimson Flower route he does mourn the loss of his friends should you kill them. As for Edelgard, she is the villain of this story. She is the one who, on all four routes, starts the war. She is also the main (not true, but main) villain on the Silver Snow and Verdant Wind routes, as well as being the final boss of the Azure Moon route. Crimson Flower... well, boy do they try hard to make her seem like the hero, I'll give them that. Also they make Rhea evil on her route for no reason. She goes Garon levels of ham on the Crimson Flower, which just feels out of character. My main point is, I like El better and think she functions better as a villain than a hero.

@@ultima1033 You have to have Byleth attack Flayn last I checked and then theres dialogue where she will be let go by Byleth and then if you fight Seteth with Byleth and eliminate both on the map they should then retreat and not be killed. What becomes of Ferdinand during the war on non black eagle routes if you recruit him is humbling for his character but also quite tragic. Turning against the empire a man who prides himself on his nobility becomes a noble in name only. He basically has everything taken from him, wandering aimlessly for the next few years. But he still considers himself a noble because of his ideals.
I'm still proud of arranging it so that, against Flayn and Seteth, Caspar was able to keep Flayn occupied by healing himself between turns, keeping him far enough away from her that he couldn't retaliate, and them both isolated enough so that he's the only one close enough for her to target while Byleth persuaded Seteth to flee so we didn't have to kill them. I think Caspar was probably the only unit on my squad who COULD have done that.

My favorite Black Eagles in order from least favorite to favorite would be: 8. Bernie: as sad as her backstory is, and I really like her support conversations with Dorothea and Ferdinand, however her constant screaming got really annoying and she can’t even listen for 5 seconds before bolting which makes her my least favorite of the group(but not as bad as Cyril) 7. Caspar: Aka Rowan from warriors done right also gives me Hop from Pokémon Shield and Sword vibes with their hotheadedness 6. Hubert: Similarities to Fredrick from Awakening minus pebble fixation since both don’t trust you at first and are deeply loyal to their Lord 5. Ferdinand: The Character that I felt had the funniest support conversations with Linhardt and Hilda but also has deep conversations with Bernie and Dorothea 4: Petra: One of my best units in the game and an interesting character as well 3: Linhardt: The most relatable character in the franchise and is basically Shikimaru Nara from Naruto not bad for the son of Reinhardt 2. Dorothea: the most stand out of the Black Eagles and has a voice that can rival Asura and my second favorite non-lord in the game(Next to best girl Lysithea) 1. Edelgard: first thought when I saw her was “Lyn Clone and she is the good girl and Dimitri is the bad guy and Claude is neutral and the flame Emperor is her father” but during my Golden Deer route, when I got to the end of chapter 11 Claude and I both said at the exact same time “ Is this some sick joke. The Flame Emperor is actually Edelgard!?” And then later I played same level on Black Eagles route and in that instant I knew Rhea only cared for Byleth as a vessel (basically how I felt: Byleth: “You mean I have been helping you all this time and you didn’t even like me?” Rhea: “Truth not really” Felix: “ That’s Cold” Rhea: “Says the guy that is a jerk to everyone” Felix: “At least I’m straight with people and not a lier” Rhea: “doesn’t matter I am the Archbishop no one can touch me” Edelgard: “For now”) and that is when I realized that Edelgard was right all along “The Crests are to blame for this irrational world we live in” and that Rhea is the cause of all of it so I sided with El to kill the Apposite and after the Heretic was finally killed I gave El my hand in marriage and she became my favorite antihero in all of FE (and third favorite character in the game next to Claude and Lysithea)
Meta Aggron while Rhea isn’t responsible for humans having crests, she screwed up big time by covering up the Miklan case and all other cases like it rather than try to put an end to those problems for good. That ended up being the big kicker for why I gladly went with Edelgard on my first rune as opposed to Rhea.
@@Mojo1356 my reasoning for siding with edelgard is that she knows her actions are morally ambiguous at best. rhea is too caught up in a black/white thinking for my liking, and i dislike how she uses religion to justify her actions. not to mention that you see none of her redeeming qualities unless you choose to side with her, making the alignment choice even more lopsided

Is funny how Hubert and linhardt are one of my favorites in all the franchise. Well while the girls are up there of course (except Petra I like her but not as much). Hubert was a good character and almost all he supports with humor in it makes me laugh, while also beging a pretty good character in the serous moments. Me while linhardt is just one of my favorites because he is basically my spirit animal( he's a good character regardless) But your opinion is your opinon, good top, looking forward on the Dimitri beging first in the blue lions(???

The game definitely didn't shy away from those topics, which gave a good reason for her being a shut in. Too bad they threw that out the window and patched those dark topics out of her conversation in the last patch even though I've seen 0 complaints about it.

The Black Eagles are my least favorite house Mostly cause Eldegard threw me away a bit and Claude, Raphael and Hilda are both way more my style And in Blue Lions there's Mercedes, Ashe and Felix. But the rest of the BE house is great, Hubert is scary and Ferdinand is such a dork, Dorothea is a great characters (and being a Bisexual option for my gay ass is a good point) Bernie is adorable and Carpar and Linhart's relationship is great Petra just reminds me of how I talk and I found that fun but she's also not my cup of tea. Great house, the leader is not.....not great for me but it's a good house.

Edelgard is my favorite Three Houses character. Though I've play Blue Lion and Golden Deer I just can't bring myself to hate her. She reminds me of myself, and serves as a reminder to be careful of how I use my talents and abilities,. Right now I'm trying to so Silver Snow, but I don't know if I'll be able to do it.
I think it's worth getting through all the pathways just to fully experience three houses, and it's great that you can resonate with Edelgard on a personal level.
Thing about Edelgard and why she's such a great character is that everything she does is in the name of a better world. Out of all the leaders in Three Houses, she's the one that speaks the most sense regarding the state of the world, as Dimitri's (post madness) naive idea that things will just get better over time (which completely flies in the face of what happened to him in his youth. His father espoused the same ideals and was killed by the Agarthans, along with corrupt people from both Faergus and Duscur). And Claude's more interested in mending relations with Almyrra (noticeably changing very little in terms of Fodlan itself, one could argue that his motives were selfish, as he's feeling torn between his dual heritage, so by improving relations between Fodlan and Almyrra, he doesn't have to feel that way anymore). Edelgard, on the other hand, understands that the world is not perfect and that sometimes, you have to break an egg to make an omelet. The Church of Seiros was responsible for the state of the nobility and rampant classism and was doing nothing to remedy it, in fact, passively encouraging it by staying silent on the topic of Crests and Rhea would never surrender power (I'd obviously like to point out that Rhea intended to surrender power when Sothis returned, but nobody, not even Seteth knew of her plans). Therefore, the only way to change it was through war, as those in power who refuse to surrender it can only be removed by force, and this is exceptionally true in the case of a being like Rhea, who has lived for centuries. I'd like to point out too that the war was predominantly against the Church of Seiros specifically, but there was also plans to get rid of the Agarthans, who were the real bad guys and the Empire knew it. which actually required the unification of Fodlan, because the Agarthans had bases of power in every corner of Fodlan. By NOT conquering the Kingdom and the Alliance, they would basically give the Agarthans free reign of those territories, since the Church of Seiros was the only power in play that knew of them and had access to military operations within those territories (a foreign army would obviously not be tolerated). Both the Kingdom and the Alliance were totally oblivious to the existence of the Agarthans, and Dimitri certainly wasn't interested in hearing about it. Basically, Edelgard's decision to go to war was necessary. Otherwise, more tragedy and more death at the hands of the Agarthans was inevitable and the nobility would continue to be as corrupt and self-serving as always. And unlike most people in power, Edelgard voluntarily relinquishes her position after her reforms are passed and she lives a quiet and peaceful life. Meaning that her war was never in the name of power, glory or wealth. It was always for Fodlan's future.
No matter what way you look at it Edelgard's action did lead to a better world regardless of path, she's the best kind of evil (if you view her as such) as she's a necessary evil.

Completely understand the rankings. One thing I do like is how the story actively gives you the choice to help Bernadetta's anxiety issues with the option of banishing her dad. Dorothea is just a fun unit to have conversations and yeah, I saw her as pretty contemporary considering her "Pride and Prejudice" social position. However, I do think that a lot of people like her in the same way that they like Catherine Zeta Jones' character in the haunting remake.

Long story short, I think Three Houses is a solid 8/10(8.5 if I'm being kind), while the game has its obvious "Fire Emblem Problems", I think the franchise haded in the right direction with this one, and Three Houses sales should tell IS that.
My favourite interaction(Ship? Pairing?) between the characters has to between Byleth and Sothis. Putting a hot topic about Sothis age/child appereance(Which is a Nowi all over again...), and Byleth silent protagonist status aside, I really liked their interaction!
Byleth brooding but caring guy(girl) to Sothis brash but wise girl, made a pretty good combo in my opinion!
*Sigh* Unfortunately, Sothis vanished from the second half of the game (SPOILERS! although in her S-Support it's implied that she could return at any moment if she wanted, but decided to lie to Byleth about her vanishing after their fusion, in order to allow them to live their life on their own and how they want, but decide to return to them when she realize that Byleth misses Sothis SPOILERS! ), and Byleth and Sothis S-Support made people uncomfortable. Which made her pretty underrated, I can hope that in one of the DLC waves/Updates, IS will give Sothis justice.

That might be mostly because I’m spending a lot of time attempting to recruit the other students through the normal means with the exception of my favorites. I'm in shock at Hubert being so low, I felt him as the genderswapped tharja and he was just so entertaining. Though I may be biased because I find his support with my favourite; bernie, to be hilarious and adorable.
Hubert is my personal favorite black eagle, though I'll admit that most of my love for him comes from his prowess on the battlefield.
He is the most complex and most mature of the black eagles. Thats why he is my favorite.

I was really surprised about this too. Hubert is both a great character and a fantastic unit.
Being the only male Dark Magic user, he can actually class into Dark Mage and Dark Bishop without issue (and yes, Intrinsic Fiendish Blow from Dark Bishop and Fiendish Blow from Mastering Mage DO STACK). Dark Magic is also far more useful on Maddening than Black Magic (which is the worst form of damage output in the game due to limited uses and no Combat Arts, as well as 0 side effects), which classes him above Dorothea and Linhardt (though the latter is likely your dedicated healer/Warp unit and will only see combat occasionally and Dorothea can alleviate the weaknesses of Black Magic by being tailor-made to the Dancer Class, while also having access to Hexblade).
And while you can class him into a Dark Knight (his best Master Class), another thing you can make use of is his Boon in Bows. Not only does this Boon give him the highly valued Hit+20 skill by Mastering Archer, but Mastering the Sniper class and giving him a Magic Bow allows him to use Hunter's Volley to output DISGUSTING levels of magic damage.
He's one of the few Mages that has an easy time accomplishing this (the others being Mercedes and Hanneman).

While the Blue Lions are not bad, they are not the most attractive group. To be honest Dimitri carries the entire team, while the rest of thr houses have more than one.
Also, I wholeheartedly agree with the characters being great. Unlike the 3DS games, which had at least 1 character that was written really badly, there is not a single character I find in 3 Houses to be badly written. While Cyril and Rhea are also my least favorite characters, I still like them and think they are characters written very well.
And I'm still upset that Dorothea doesn't have a boon in Punching things.
You could make her a Mortal Savant so she can use Aura Gauntlets.
And though nothing's confirmed yet, Dataminers have found another class which can use both Magic and Gauntlets.

I, too, started with Black Eagles, and have an immense bias towards them..with a few outside exceptions (Lysithea, Hilda, Felix). As such, here's my top:
8 - Caspar, he started to fall off late game and his personality came off too strong for me at times. Still love him though.
7 - Hubert, an absolute monster on the battlefield and I was just waiting for him to betray us at some point. Never happened.
6 - Ferdinand, the shield of the group with a personality that rubs off on you and someone you come to deeply respect.
5 - Dorothea, I admit that I didn't like her personality as much as you did but she was a dervish-dancer and felt very relateable.
4 - Linhardt, The lazy genius and softest of the boys who I found quite entertaining every time he spoke.
3 - Petra, crazy strong in battle and crazy well put together character wise; the most interesting Black Eagle imo.
2 - Bernadetta, she killed The Immaculate one by shooting her six times in one turn..when I was trying to give Edelgard the kill.
1 - Edelgard, immensely strong in both character and determination (not to mention in battle; good lord Hector would be proud)..with just enough fragility and remorse to remind you that she's still human, and quite emotional at that. I married her, and if I were asked if I'd do it again after playing and seeing the rest of the paths..you can bet your last gold piece that I still would.
Just curious: How did Caspar fall off late game for you? Cause if you're talking about how he is as a unit he gets an insane crit rate on the war master path.
The problem that I had with Caspar was that, even though I was going the War Master path with him, it was very difficult to get him kills..so by end game, he never got there, especially since Crimson Flower is so short. He always came up just short of being able to ORKO, and he was too squishy for me to put him in danger. He had surprisingly low AS and defense, and just being a sack of hit points wasn't good enough against late game Falcon Knights, Assassins, and Swordmasters..which 3H -loves- to throw at you. And like, him versus the magic damage 1 to 3 range golems? No way.
However, one thing I will say is that this post was made back when I had only beaten the game twice and before I had all of this cool DLC and such..so now that I'm a lot more knowledgeable about the game, I'm sure that I'd have a much easier time using him.
@@chandlerholloway2047 i like using caspar, but you summed up the problems. he has all the shortcomings of a fighter. sure, he hits hard, but his low speed and defenses means his mountain of HP goes down fast. fortunately, gauntlets help with his speed problem. still edelgard lite in gameplay though
I didn't fully love Edelgard's character until I played the Blue Lions and Black Eagles route, some of Edelgard's past is mentioned during the blue lions route and once you played the Black Eagles route, it comes together in a full circle as you piece together the clues, to get the full picture, and thats when I really loved Edelgard as a character. Dorothea also become my favorite character for mostly the same reasons as you described in the video.

For me it was the other way around. I could barely stomach her after Silver Snow, but after Azure Moon she became completely irredeemable to me.
@@UltimusTerminus For me, I love her as an antagonist and as the villain of the game. Like to me she is irredeemable, but that makes her a great villain. One you can understand...but think is just extremely flawed. But sadly, many think she is a hero or will help the world when in truth, she is just a puppet to the Slither in the dark.
@@jjmara01 That's a good description. Maybe the reason I didn't enjoy Crimson flower (I completed it as a third route) was mainly because I just didn't see Rhea as a villain like Edelgard in other routes.
I cannot deny that the Black Eagles have endeared themselves to me from the minute I met them at the Officers Academy. Right now they stand amongst the Awakening and Fates: Conquest casts in regards of how much I love them. Personally I would put my favourites in a different order to you but what matters is that we like them. If I were to list my favourites (starting from least and ending with most favourite) it would be this:

7) Caspar von Bergliez.
6) Bernadetta von Varley.
5) Petra Macneary.

Bern - I understand her story and her Byleth and Dorothy are charming I do found annoyed going thru her C support(Burnout)
Herbert/Lindhart - I can never choose one over than other I love the quip they give the other students but While Lin is relatable Hubert intrigued my sarcasm
Petra - Honestly at first I wasn't hype about her when I first saw her but she has been or less my best unit and I love the direction they took her character
Eli- I understand her motivation and great unit. She does show regret and does tried to be the leader her classmates could rely on even tho she knows this trails is going to be paved in blood
Dorothea- hands my favorite character and waifu on BE route. One of the most beautiful female in Fe (My opinion ). Loved all the supports that involve her

It's rather unfortunate then that the Black Eagles' possibly contains the worst story route for Three Houses. Crimson Flower is just inadequate, especially if you compare it to Azure Moon or Verdant Wind. Hell, even Silver Snow is better. It really does feel like IS didn't have enough time to finish writing the 'evil' story-line, so they simply threw a brunch of filler until it finally created.. something.
I did feel CF was rushed come time skip, not bad at all just underdeveloped.
Interesting concept, fumbled execution. That pretty much sums up CF, not wholly dissimilar to Conquest's story (though Leagues more competent)

I'll disagree. While some shit does happen in VW and SS, it's all forshadowed or explained retroactively.
Crimson Flower is both too short, and doesn't even focus on the true evil of Fodlan (that being TwSitD) It also lacks animated cutscenes where they really should be (Dimitri's death anyone?)

I did find myself liking a lot of the Black Eagle students, even the ones that I didn't think I would. I'm still definitely a Blue Lion (Dimitri was my first husband, and in my Black Eagle path I chose Ashe), and I prefer Dimitri's story over Edelgard's, but I do see things to like in the Black Eagles.
Well i'm in the opposite case : i'm more a Black Eagle (or a Golden Deer in some occasions) but holy crap, i think the characters in the Blue Lions are freaking amazing (especially Felix and Sylvain which are with Edelgard my favorite characters in the entire game). Still, between the fact that Edelgard is the main enemy, the fact that think some fire emblems's campaigns tend to drag on for nothing and the fact i think nobles have too much power at the end, i can't really bring myself to choose Dimitri. That being said, i don't hate his character at all and i do think he's well written.
@@Harakengard I can get why you prefer Black Eagles. I do agree that Felix and Sylvain have a lot going for them too (Felix is also one of my top characters). I actually preferred Blue Lion’s path bring longer than Black Eagles, as I felt Black Eagles ended too early. I also think Edelgard needed more time to make her argument, but that’s just me.

My rankings of the Black Eagles house: *Huge spoilers!*
8. Hubert: While I find his blind allegiance to Edelgard to be a bit annoying, his supports show some depth to him. He doesn't have that deep of a reason to follow her, but does have his own views on her allies and respects them as individuals. He's definitely a glass cannon, but we already have Lysithea for that. Hubert far from a bad unit, but works better as support. Plus Robbie Daymond is doing a wayyyyy better performance than in Echoes - he should voice Dracula!
7. Caspar: Yeah he should be the mc of a Shounen series, and his conversations makes that very clear. But it's not run to the ground, and his supports give an extra layer of character on top of outward personality. Caspar is obviously a close quarters tank. Make him a Grappler, Warrior and Swordmaster and he's set for the entire game.
6. Linhardt: I didn't expect much from him. I. Was. Stupid. This guy's supports are insightful, relatable and he discovered plot threats before me! His magic stats are well balanced, with either magics being ideal for him and his growth rates make them worth the effort.
5. Ferdinand: When I started playing as F Byleth (habit in FE games), I didn't think it would cause any problems. Then Jeralt gave Byleth her mother's ring. *OH SHIT! I DON'T HAVE A HUSBANDO!* I knew I could've chosen a gay option, but there are so many Waifus that it seemed too obvious. That's when Ferdie comes in! He's a stuck up noble who clearly doesn't know how to socialise, but he has good reason. He doesn't believe what his father did to Edelgard's father was right, so Ferdie wants to become the quintessential noble to change peoples views on them. And he learns very well from mistakes, taking responsibility and gains something from the experience. And you can feel Billy Kametz understands and grows with him. Riding units are the most ideal for him, but he can be handy with a bow and magic if you want to and your exp will not be wasted on him. Therefore, he is the one to stand side by side with Byleth! (Ally and husbando)
4. Bernadette: Like Caspar, she has anime traits that feel out of place. Especially since her paranoia doesn't mash well with the 'shy, but cute' look they're going with. But her supports reveal that she's constantly trying to break out of that shell, which is a very touching story that can hit home. Obviously her strength is in bows, so make her Pegasus, Wyvern or cavalier unit and she's indestructible. Plus Erica Mendez. Instant like!
3. Dorothea: Honestly I'm not sure if the developers knew if she should be a seductive or supportive big sis. Although Dorothea being the only commoner (story wise) doesn't effect her relationships, it's clear she's hiding deep scars of her past. But she won't allow that to get in the way of her friendship, and in the end she loves her friends. She's the best magic unit, as she gains some great spells and her growth rates make her useful in other classes. And Allegra Clark can sing and voice Shamir!
2. Petra: The second I heard of her, I thought they'd make her speak broken English in a stereotyped voice because FE has done it before. They even gave her a Kansai accent in the Japanese version (common way to depict foreigners there). Instead, the English version is much more realistic. Petra makes grammatical errors, but she constantly tries to fix it. That's because she tries to everything well, with mostly good results. And it's because she wants to prove that she can be a great queen. She's well aware of her country's situation, and wants to fix it by learning to become a great ruler and building better diplomatic relationships. Even when Caspar learns his father killed her father, Petra still values her friendship with Adrestians both on personal and professional levels. Her best stats are in physical units, but I made her a bow wielding Pegasus Knight because I can. And props for Faye Mata doing foreigners justice!
1. Edelgard: Is this any surprise? A magic and physical powerhouse, good set of skills and definitely a unit for the front lines. Yeah her reasons for starting the war isn't completely justified, especially since some of her reasons are misunderstandings. But clearly it's because she doesn't have the best advisers (not Hubert), and she doesn't like killing in the least. She's merciful, values her friends and loved ones, doesn't do it for own selfish reasons and is the most bad ass lord in the game! Why her route is shorter than others, I don't know. And honestly the Verdant Wind route is the best. But I loved Edelgard's route and her character, and I wouldn't change much of because I love her that much! (Female or male!) And it proves FE can and will have developed 'villains'!
Side note: I love the Blue Lions just as much, but your first pick always have nostalgic value. The Golden Deers aren't half bad.
Ferdinand stuck up? I can see that from Lorenz, but Ferdinand? Why? A stuck up person would refuse to do any menial task, saying it's beneath him, but Ferdinand doesn't shy away from such things and even enjoys them: cleaning up, pulling weeds, helping with hard labor, picking up groceries and so on and so forth. He would do and has done any menial task under the sun to set an example to nobles and commoners alike, and he's always so eager and energetic in anything he does. His support with Dorothea is especially impressive in this regard: he gets a job to earn money so that he could buy flour (which I believe he grinded himself) and ingredients just so that he could bake her some pastries. And this has been a mere commoner defending the splendor of nobility, the noble standard, a noble among nobles, Ferdinand von Aegir
She turned into the "villain" of the narrative to be the hero of the world.
I found Hubert a bit crappy at Part One but after the time skip, he turned into one of my favorite male characters because I enjoyed his B & A supports very much :D

1: Edelgard: Honestly the most interesting lord in the series as she feels like...anti-hero believing that she doing the right thing with the limited cards in her hand and to be fair...she not the only one who does some terrible things. Like she couldn't have taken out of the TWSITD as the church would have most likely claimed that thous made them impossible to take down so...that why she targeted the Church first.

Right now I am hoping that you would get to Berwick Saga BlazingKnight as you would love the story that game alongside the Lord Reese who...easily one of my favourites Lords in terms of character and gameplay. As he started off a bit low on bases but he can still fight pretty well and his commander helps everyone a lot. Oh, also he gets some personal weapons that allow him to become really good in fact, he one of the most balanced Lords in the series as yea he mounted but in Berwick Saga mounted classes got nerf heavily with the whole buying horses, how they can die, and terrain. Even so, he isn't super weak like...Roy, as he can still put some work and his promotion, helps him a lot.
As for his character, it really good as Reese might look boring but my god I was wrong. As in the story he is faced with so many conflicts that he has to deal with. As for example, he has the face the reality of war and how it affects people...as unlike in other Fire Emblem Games, we can talk to NPC within the Hub area. Also, it does pull the whole Conquest storyline where they had a King that they can't oppose but yet they continue to serve him...however, Berwick Saga, it does it a million times better! As Reese is just a Lord son and therefore doesn't have a lot a problem also they had no choice but to serve him as the Raze Empire is just banging on their doorstep. I won't spoil anymore but just know that if you like Fire Emblem 4 story...play Berwick Saga you love it.
Eh, I really liked Raphael, he didn't need a long backstory and anyway isn't his parent dying enough? He's also really good for memes. He was really good for lightening situations and he was just entertaining. But of course you can dislike him if you want

Like sure parents died but it barely talked about and...like...what does he teach us? Nothing....he just a nice dude. It's boring and simple. Like you say that he doesn't need a long backstory...sure but...even so it...really dam short. It as simple as "I am a nice dude who lost his parents." like....that it...sure he has his sister but once again like his parents barely talked about. The problem for Raphael is that nothing gets explored at all so he ends up being a flat character.
Another character did this job better and without supports. Dean from Berwick Saga...his backstory is really simply where he lost his entire family from the Raze Empire and that he vowed for revenge. Seems simple right? Nope, During a scene Dean vow to kill any Imperial soldiers without any mercy. So when a Priestess name Izerna who he saved earlier from rebels rescued an Imperial Soldiers. He goes nuts and tries to kill him but Izerna stepped in and then just slaps him. Dean was shocked when Izerna starts crying and ask her why she is crying.
She replied "Come here you two" Izerna drags them both into the graveyard and ask the Imperial to reveal his backstory which is just like Dean...his family was also killed but this time by the League...he also vowed for revenge just like Dean. Dean realized that...he part the cycle of revenge and that...the war is going to create more people crying for revenge.
Izerna soon asked Dean what would he do if killed every Imperial soldiers and for the first time Dean was at a loss of words.
See...this character Dean seems simple alongside his backstory but they explored it and gave us a strong message about the cycle of revenge. Like we have to keep mind that Dean is in a game that doesn't have supports and he only gets...a handful of scenes but even so he is a million times better and is much more interesting then Raphael like...wtf?

*Notices how the Top 4 are all females* I've heard Black Eagles being called the house of Waifus, so this is just one more confirmation lol. While I've heard Blue Eagles being called the House of Husbandos lol. Who knows what Golden Deer have been called.

All I'll say is the following: While I do think she's a well written character, I just CANNOT see myself EVER playing Crimson Flower due to VERY PERSONAL reasons causing me to not be able to justify siding with Edelgard. I can see why other people like her, but I enjoyed her MUCH more when she was a villain on the other routes than when she was the protagonist of her own route (and from what I've seen in Let's Plays would has only soured me on her character).
I dunno, it's still just a game. Strategy games usually offer villain campaigns such as Warcraft or Red Alert and most of the times they are far more evil than what Three Houses gave us with Crimson Flower. I mean, I think Mandalorians are jackasses for setting entire planets on fire, but that doesn't stop me from playing them if given the chance.
You do you, but I feel like you're just skipping on content the game provides.
@@extrahachse3118 The problem with that attitude is that the only things I would miss out on experiencing is using Edelgard and Hubert post timeskip (as well as Jeritza) as well as the maps on that route (of which only one is wholly unique) as anything story and support related I can still experience via RUclips.
And it also doesn't help that Crimson Flower is the shortest route so if you like experimenting with weird class-character combinations (like I do), you will have less time to do so.

@@royalhistorian5109 Still prefer Silver Snow over Crimson Flower as it at least gives me the option to start with BE without siding with Edelgard, provides some neat plot details regarding Byleth and Rhea (who I prefer over Edelgard quite a bit)and an absolute banger of a final map theme (one that I prefer over 'Apex of the World' though less than 'God Shattering Star').

I’ve done a church route Hogwarts run (everyone must be in a magic class, basically any class that can use magic)... I tried to use a mix from all the houses to get as much out of the game as possible (this was done on NG+ only to get every student ASAP).
From Black Eagles I used Bernie, Dorathea, and Ferdinand but surprisingly they were most effective in that order (Bernie outperformed most of the canonical mages as mages).
Turning Ferdinand into warlock is ok but once he’s a dark Knight Ferdie becomes amazing, he becomes quite tanky for a Mage and while as a mounted Mage he hits hard on both sides of the spectrum. Not an all star member but definitely way better than originally expected
Bernie has just been such a god tier unit no matter what role I throw her into, used her in every play though and she stayed as a must have top 3. Archer, Sniper, ending in Bow Knight? Amazing. Mage, Warlock, ending in Dark Knight raising faith on the side? Ridiculous. Flyer... that’s self explanatory. She is honestly one of the best characters in the game
Honestly, I can’t call Edelgard a villain with how bad she feels about what happens in the war she declares- I can only go as far as to call her an antagonist at the end of the day (even then, I would say the true main villain at the end of the day is, spoilers...
Thales since he manipulated Edelgard into doing so many bad things. If we had gotten the chance to see Edelgard react to the day we can finally kill the Agarthans once and for all after everything they did, then the CF could have been my favorite story route even if it was shorter than the other routes... however, since killing the Agarthans for good is relegated to offscreen only, which is somewhat mitigated with Jeritza’s additional quest and S rank ending, I can only place the CF route as No 2 after the BL story)
The correct term for this kind of situations is "antagonist", and if that character is actually supposed to have some "villany" of them, then the term "Anti-Villain" also works.

Granted, I played Blue Lions first, and that is where Edelgard is at her worst. But after playing all the routes, even Crimson Flower, I still see Edelgard as the main villain of this game.
Thank you! As someone that did Golden Deer first, Edelgard is still in the wrong no matter the route. People claim that she cares for her friends but... She is more than willing to attack, even threatens to kill, them if they stand in her way when she steals the Crest Stones. And she holds no hesitation in setting Bernie on fire in a certain chapter if you don't kill her in time. You heard me right. The woman that supposedly cares for her friends. Sets. One. On. FIRE. If you don't recruit her or kill her in time.

Victoria Chamberlain I’m not going to get into the whole edelgard argument since it been talked to death but Bernie cannot be harmed by the flames on that map. Not to mention that she actually mourns her friends’ deaths unlike another lord. She’s not evil by any means.
@@reilie9115 I'm gonna have to stop you right there. Claude DOES mourn the loss of his friends should you defeat them in the Blood of the Eagle and Lion. Dimitri...well he doesn't on the Golden Deer route due to Byleth not being there to fix his mental state, but on the Crimson Flower route he does mourn the loss of his friends should you kill them.
As for Edelgard, she is the villain of this story. She is the one who, on all four routes, starts the war. She is also the main (not true, but main) villain on the Silver Snow and Verdant Wind routes, as well as being the final boss of the Azure Moon route. Crimson Flower... well, boy do they try hard to make her seem like the hero, I'll give them that. Also they make Rhea evil on her route for no reason. She goes Garon levels of ham on the Crimson Flower, which just feels out of character. My main point is, I like El better and think she functions better as a villain than a hero.
While i love edlegard...i predict that it will be a bit of a trial for me before i join the black eagles

@@ultima1033 You have to have Byleth attack Flayn last I checked and then theres dialogue where she will be let go by Byleth and then if you fight Seteth with Byleth and eliminate both on the map they should then retreat and not be killed. What becomes of Ferdinand during the war on non black eagle routes if you recruit him is humbling for his character but also quite tragic. Turning against the empire a man who prides himself on his nobility becomes a noble in name only. He basically has everything taken from him, wandering aimlessly for the next few years. But he still considers himself a noble because of his ideals.
I'm still proud of arranging it so that, against Flayn and Seteth, Caspar was able to keep Flayn occupied by healing himself between turns, keeping him far enough away from her that he couldn't retaliate, and them both isolated enough so that he's the only one close enough for her to target while Byleth persuaded Seteth to flee so we didn't have to kill them. I think Caspar was probably the only unit on my squad who COULD have done that.

My favorite Black Eagles in order from least favorite to favorite would be:
8. Bernie: as sad as her backstory is, and I really like her support conversations with Dorothea and Ferdinand, however her constant screaming got really annoying and she can’t even listen for 5 seconds before bolting which makes her my least favorite of the group(but not as bad as Cyril)
7. Caspar: Aka Rowan from warriors done right also gives me Hop from Pokémon Shield and Sword vibes with their hotheadedness
6. Hubert: Similarities to Fredrick from Awakening minus pebble fixation since both don’t trust you at first and are deeply loyal to their Lord
5. Ferdinand: The Character that I felt had the funniest support conversations with Linhardt and Hilda but also has deep conversations with Bernie and Dorothea
4: Petra: One of my best units in the game and an interesting character as well
3: Linhardt: The most relatable character in the franchise and is basically Shikimaru Nara from Naruto not bad for the son of Reinhardt
2. Dorothea: the most stand out of the Black Eagles and has a voice that can rival Asura and my second favorite non-lord in the game(Next to best girl Lysithea)
1. Edelgard: first thought when I saw her was “Lyn Clone and she is the good girl and Dimitri is the bad guy and Claude is neutral and the flame Emperor is her father” but during my Golden Deer route, when I got to the end of chapter 11 Claude and I both said at the exact same time “ Is this some sick joke. The Flame Emperor is actually Edelgard!?” And then later I played same level on Black Eagles route and in that instant I knew Rhea only cared for Byleth as a vessel (basically how I felt: Byleth: “You mean I have been helping you all this time and you didn’t even like me?” Rhea: “Truth not really” Felix: “ That’s Cold” Rhea: “Says the guy that is a jerk to everyone” Felix: “At least I’m straight with people and not a lier” Rhea: “doesn’t matter I am the Archbishop no one can touch me” Edelgard: “For now”) and that is when I realized that Edelgard was right all along “The Crests are to blame for this irrational world we live in” and that Rhea is the cause of all of it so I sided with El to kill the Apposite and after the Heretic was finally killed I gave El my hand in marriage and she became my favorite antihero in all of FE (and third favorite character in the game next to Claude and Lysithea)
Fodlan is such an irrational world that needed to be fixed.
Meta Aggron while Rhea isn’t responsible for humans having crests, she screwed up big time by covering up the Miklan case and all other cases like it rather than try to put an end to those problems for good. That ended up being the big kicker for why I gladly went with Edelgard on my first rune as opposed to Rhea.
@@Mojo1356 my reasoning for siding with edelgard is that she knows her actions are morally ambiguous at best. rhea is too caught up in a black/white thinking for my liking, and i dislike how she uses religion to justify her actions. not to mention that you see none of her redeeming qualities unless you choose to side with her, making the alignment choice even more lopsided

Is funny how Hubert and linhardt are one of my favorites in all the franchise.
Well while the girls are up there of course (except Petra I like her but not as much). Hubert was a good character and almost all he supports with humor in it makes me laugh, while also beging a pretty good character in the serous moments.
Me while linhardt is just one of my favorites because he is basically my spirit animal( he's a good character regardless)

@@Canadiansamurai does levin sword benefit from thyrsus, because if not I'll pass...besides that requires making her a sword wielder until C rank (on the flipside getting her vantage from mercenary is useful anyway, so...) and IN ADDITION, dark knight on her is absurd, because she can move in, snipe, and move out.
The game definitely didn't shy away from those topics, which gave a good reason for her being a shut in. Too bad they threw that out the window and patched those dark topics out of her conversation in the last patch even though I've seen 0 complaints about it.

Honestly, Edelgard would have been perfect had they made Armoured Lord able to use magic like the Enlightened One. What's the point of giving her good spells, decent stats and a budding talent if you have to stray from her strengths in order to use them?

Edelgard is my favorite Three Houses character. Though I've play Blue Lion and Golden Deer I just can't bring myself to hate her. She reminds me of myself, and serves as a reminder to be careful of how I use my talents and abilities,. Right now I'm trying to so Silver Snow, but I don't know if I'll be able to do it.
I think it's worth getting through all the pathways just to fully experience three houses, and it's great that you can resonate with Edelgard on a personal level.
Thing about Edelgard and why she's such a great character is that everything she does is in the name of a better world.
Out of all the leaders in Three Houses, she's the one that speaks the most sense regarding the state of the world, as Dimitri's (post madness) naive idea that things will just get better over time (which completely flies in the face of what happened to him in his youth. His father espoused the same ideals and was killed by the Agarthans, along with corrupt people from both Faergus and Duscur). And Claude's more interested in mending relations with Almyrra (noticeably changing very little in terms of Fodlan itself, one could argue that his motives were selfish, as he's feeling torn between his dual heritage, so by improving relations between Fodlan and Almyrra, he doesn't have to feel that way anymore).
Edelgard, on the other hand, understands that the world is not perfect and that sometimes, you have to break an egg to make an omelet. The Church of Seiros was responsible for the state of the nobility and rampant classism and was doing nothing to remedy it, in fact, passively encouraging it by staying silent on the topic of Crests and Rhea would never surrender power (I'd obviously like to point out that Rhea intended to surrender power when Sothis returned, but nobody, not even Seteth knew of her plans). Therefore, the only way to change it was through war, as those in power who refuse to surrender it can only be removed by force, and this is exceptionally true in the case of a being like Rhea, who has lived for centuries.
I'd like to point out too that the war was predominantly against the Church of Seiros specifically, but there was also plans to get rid of the Agarthans, who were the real bad guys and the Empire knew it. which actually required the unification of Fodlan, because the Agarthans had bases of power in every corner of Fodlan. By NOT conquering the Kingdom and the Alliance, they would basically give the Agarthans free reign of those territories, since the Church of Seiros was the only power in play that knew of them and had access to military operations within those territories (a foreign army would obviously not be tolerated).
Both the Kingdom and the Alliance were totally oblivious to the existence of the Agarthans, and Dimitri certainly wasn't interested in hearing about it.
Basically, Edelgard's decision to go to war was necessary. Otherwise, more tragedy and more death at the hands of the Agarthans was inevitable and the nobility would continue to be as corrupt and self-serving as always. And unlike most people in power, Edelgard voluntarily relinquishes her position after her reforms are passed and she lives a quiet and peaceful life.
Meaning that her war was never in the name of power, glory or wealth. It was always for Fodlan's future.
No matter what way you look at it Edelgard's action did lead to a better world regardless of path, she's the best kind of evil (if you view her as such) as she's a necessary evil.

Completely understand the rankings. One thing I do like is how the story actively gives you the choice to help Bernadetta's anxiety issues with the option of banishing her dad.
Dorothea is just a fun unit to have conversations and yeah, I saw her as pretty contemporary considering her "Pride and Prejudice" social position.
However, I do think that a lot of people like her in the same way that they like Catherine Zeta Jones' character in the haunting remake.
