Greg haugen was a very underated...always rdy to fight anyone..as proven in his tough man bouts with much bigger opponents...also ...as i saw it ....he beat pazienza twice..not once...the first two he beat pazienza clearly ...greg haugen was a very good fighter...champion of the world good ! 🥊 👑 🥊 !great world champion in my book...👍
Mancini was never the same after the Kim fight. Before that he was a thing of beauty. After that he was gun shy, or afraid to pull the trigger when he had a guy hurt. I never liked Greg, stood too straight up and bounced up and down, had basically 2 punches left jab right cross. He'd one two you all night long. No hooks or uppercut, or overhands. Too one dimensional, and easy to hit. Remember what the Tijuana taxi driver his words, not mine did to him.Chavez was truly one of the greats of all time. But father time is undefeated. Anyway what I'm saying is Boom Boom before the Kim fight murders Haugen all day long, every day.
@franksantucci3038 I can respect your comment as Haugen didn't have a lot of special combos.I agree he had a limited 1-2 but agree to disagree. He was too much a headhunter but did do some body work against Macho.I liked Haugen as his limited 1-2 combo earned him a good record. He had good form and straight punches. He wasn't heavy handed but pivoted off his left foot very well, and made him a good boxer.Big respect to Mancini as well.Great fight and yep Mancini was greatly affected by Duk Koo Kim's death.Maybe he was restrained by that no doubt.
Throughout his career Haugen, even as champion had the guts to fight in front of hostile crowds in opponents' real or adopted hometowns. The obvious example was the over 100,000 Julio Caesar Chavez idols itching to murder him in Mexico City's Azteca Stadium.
Ray was past it by this time, Haugan was fighting regularly, Mancini was trying to make a comeback, he'd been away from the ring for awhile. He should have stayed retired.
Ridiculous to come back after 3 years and jump in with a guy like this. So obvious in the first half of the first that Ray's timing and reflexes were absent and Haugen could toy with him like a mediocre sparring partner
Ray should've cut his hair or something. He seemed distracted by it almost from the opening bell. The last thing you want in a fight is to be messing with your hair ... Crazy, too, that barely two rounds in, his left eye was almost completely shut.
Ray wasn't one of the greatest he was a flash in the pan. Armstrong, Duran, Chavez, Whittaker, Mayweather THOSE were the lightweight greats and all of them would have wiped Ray easy.
That fight was so overdue and came so late that it no longer really mattered to the sport . And an even sadder thing is that if the fight happened 8 years earlier Camacho still would have had the sufficient skills to beat Leonard. But at that time it would have meant everything.
Thats a tough one to pick, leonard vs comacho in there prime...loved the macho man but...leonard carries the bigger gun ..excellent skills evenly matched, but sugar wins by. K O . ala ( leonard destroys donny lalonde light heavyweight) ( rosario almost K O, s comacho)...im talk n prime time....not retirement tours...both great undisputedly...just different weights in each of there prime...but definetly the 2 best boxer,s of all time .
Mancini was past his best here and needed at least a couple of tuneups before facing Haugen. The clash of heads closing Mancini's left eye most def contributed negatively for Ray..he could no longer see the shots, and I think it bothered him and took him out of the fight..Prime Mancini vs prime Haugen I would take Mancini all day long.
Mancini was way done by this point. Greg was a good fighter but he talked too much. When he was coming up Roger Mayweather used to beat the holy hell out of Greg in the gym in Vegas.
Mancini had been out of the game for too long and had lost his last three fights. Had this fight taken place 5 years before it would have been a different story.
Mancini should've stayed retired. Haugen clearly the better fighter here throwing quick solid counter punches as Ray is just a lot slower and older here. He's schooling and exploiting Ray in every exchange. Ray doesn't have the power or fire that he had in his prime. Haugen was a really good solid boxer, underrated. These two should've fought in the early 80's, it may have turned into a classic rivalry. But it's over for Ray by 1992.

Never even really heard of the guy until You Tube. Mancini was a household name in the 80' s?!!??....

He was a tough dude who always came to fight
Julio César Chávez was haugens King

MAN, what a right! Your could hear it land.
Had to chuckle as Pedro promotes a fight at 51:13 without telling us who's in the fight.

Proud fighters don't know how to retire.
Ray needed some tune up bouts before reentering the world class game after a long respite. How many champions have made that same mistake?
Ray was past it by this time, Haugan was fighting regularly, Mancini was trying to make a comeback, he'd been away from the ring for awhile. He should have stayed retired.
He was gassed after the first round. A shame because he was a tough fighter, but never the same after the Kim fight.
@@1LOCKNLOAD after the fight wt Livingstone bramble he lost all his fights. That ko change him forever

Oh okay. Have you discussed this with Ray?

I was gonna say the same thing. His hair was constantly in is eyes. He spent half the fight brushing it back with his glove.
Haugen could work anybody's nerves. Lol... Man he was a tough guy. He had a ugly style but gave everyone with the exception of Chavez, a tough time.
Whitaker didn’t seem to have much trouble with him..
Idk man Whittaker kind of schooled him as well.
Ugly style??? Pfffft hmmmmph 😂😂clown 👌 🤡 🤣 😂 🙄 😆 👌 🤡 🤣 😂 🙄 😆 👌 🤡 🤣 😂 🙄 😆
greg beat him like a drum
I checked the ring the day before my brother , perfect for greg❤ And Ray is a good guy
Ray was, and will always be amongst the greatest. A bit over his peak at the time of this contest.
@Swedish American i guess we will never know who WOULD win.
He was not a great. He had a good story.

Greg Haugen was always more of a counter puncher, behind the tough man image.
It looked as though Mancini was beginning to make a replay of the Kim fight... With him playing Kim.
hahaha,cold
Not nice
This reminds me of Camacho beating Sugar Ray Leonard. Two fighters headed in different directions.
That fight was so overdue and came so late that it no longer really mattered to the sport . And an even sadder thing is that if the fight happened 8 years earlier Camacho still would have had the sufficient skills to beat Leonard. But at that time it would have meant everything.

He has the Max Baer look.

It happened in current time. You all just missed it because instead of doing your research, y'all were busy complaining like you are now 😂
2 fights in seven years of course there’s gonna be no timing and he was gonna look a lot older than 31

Jimmy lennon jnr don't age?
Too many meatballs for 3 years. Should have trained longer and had a warm up fight before fighting this fight.
And too much pasta with tomato sauce.. And cannoli
Wonder what would have happened between Roberto Duran and Hougen?? Haugen and Angel Manfredy!?
Haugen owns both
