As a former Golden Gloves boxer in 1985-1987 the highest compliment I ever received was being told I fought like Alexis Arguello. I was very thin like Arguello and most wondered where the power came from. 😆 My main weapon was my right cross. Arguello's was legendary and devastating. RIP Champ.

Just stating plain fair facts, so you can crow about Aaron all you want, but ask yourself who's career lasted longer or finished with better numbers. Case closed.
Alexis Arguello earned the respect and admiration of the majority of the American public after the fight when he was so nice and complimentary to the young Mancini and his dad. Arguello was the nicest toughest champion fighter of all time.
Arguello vs Pryor 1 n 2. Best fights of the century. Both tough fighters. These 2 should never fight again, they kill each other. Arguello unfortunately is dead now. Boxing fans missed this gentleman
Ray will always be my favorite fighter. Not only is he one of the greats to lace em up at light but he is also a wonderful and heroic man. Proud Catholic, blue collar Irish Italian kid, heart of lion and fists as good as they come. LOVE YA RAY, THANKS FOR GETTING A 4 YEAR OLD INTO A SPORT HE HAS BEEN IN NON STOP FOR 35 YEARS
I talked to Arguello a couple of times, I've heard from himself the story of a couple of his fights, one of them was the one first vs. Pryor and as the teenager that I was, I asked him: "He really cheated on you with some drug?" He told me that, after lillte black bottle episode happened, he felt like his punches did not have any effect on Pryor anymore and literally told to my father and me: "I hit him with all my might, twice and one third time. I realized that I had no more options to win and I prefered to let the referee to finish the count when I was knocked down". He was a real man, a gentleman like no other in history,
Aaron Pryor most definitely was under the influence and he should have been subject to more thorough investigation. What really gets me is that he had no reason to resort to that. He was talented and wasnt like he needed a knockout.
Huaaooh!
The artistry of Alexis arguello, Mancini gets a lesson from the master, I didn't write that but I read it a boxing magazine when I was a young boxing fan and fighter
A great fight, and a great win for Alexis Arguello. Mancini was a very talented and tough young fighter, but wasn't quite ready for someone that had the amount of championship bout experience that Arguello did. Interestingly, there was never a rematch with Mancini and Arguello.
Good stoppage! Didn't want the young man's career to end before it really got started. With all those unanswered blows at the end, his head was beginning to flop around like a human bobble head.
Round 11 is the tipping point. From that point onward, Arguello's punches continue to have snap, but Mancini's don't. Scrappy effort from Mancini, though. No doubt about it. Amazing that he was only 20 years old. Same age as I was, but he was fighting a legend for a world championship; I was doing minimum-wage janitorial work. 😂
I think Alexis carried him to the late rounds so he would make his father proud. He even took punishment for it, but It looked like he could have let loose at just about any time and finished Ray. Arguello is one of the classiest fighters of all time. A true gentleman.
I had heard that a Mancini Pryor fight was in the making not too long after Arguello's second loss to Pryor and that Arguello had personally told Ray not to fight him.
@@michaeldemos6816 Pryor was using performance enhancing drugs when he beat Alexis, from the accounts I have read. Perhaps Arguello was warning Ray Mancini.
@@lindad4148 what accounts??? That water bottle switch means nothing since Pryor beat Arguello outright again in the second fight without any doubt of a tainted bottle. Who says a fighter would be a better fighter on dope or booze anyway? I don't get it. No one wanted to fight Pryor back then. He was fierce.
I am not sure if he carried him. I think it was a combination of Arguello being a slow starter and Boom Booms pressure. Arguello was very patient and would start timing you and with his power was dangerous.
Imagine Arguello, although I couldn’t find it on Wikipedia, lost by KO in his debut in the first round? There is a KO on wiki early in his career followed by another loss. That’s determination. A lot of guys would get discouraged.
He is very motivational for an up and coming boxer. Shows how losses don't mean anything as long as you are still committed to becoming world champion.
not to mention that Arguello isn't really a very talented fighter. he doesn't have a great chin, or blinding speed, or a high reserve of stamina nor size. all he had is his heart and punch. to compensate the lack of natural talents, he studied the sport, honed his skills and talent and learn how to fight in an old fashion way: fighting regularly.

A glorified sparring session, with Arguello carrying Mancini for a good portion of the fight. If he had wanted to,he could of stopped Ray in 4 - 6 rounds.Look at the early rounds in this fight, and Arguello throws no punches with bad intentions.Look at the opening rounds of him against Pryor and you see a fight from first bell.Ray had nothing that Arguello had to figure out or be cautious about. His corner knew that when they took the fight,he was taylor made for him - a short armed pressure type who allows him to stay set.

@@allancarter4055 Aaron himself always spoke highly of Alexis so your comment is meaningless in that regard. Aaron did beat Alexis twice, but by that stage Alexis had already established himself as an ATG.

They called Alexis - 'The explosive thin Man' a truly Great Fighter, and a real class act all the way. Ray boom boom was determined as hell, and a very strong fighter, known for his toughness and tenacity.
Excellent fight by excellent boxers and excellent sportsmen.
Alexis is such a good man you can see it. Very humble and compassionate champion. Plus awesome fighter.

To tell you the truth, it was a boring fight, he fought Vilomar Fernandez, who ran the whole fight!!! Unanimous Decision for Arguello...
@@jamoney45 ....thanks for the story , and thanks for your service .
Alexis was another of my fav boxers. The boxers in that day were just that, they were the art. I didn't see when Alexis fought Aaron Pryor, but, was shocked to learn Alexis lost. It later came out that Aaron had been "juicing" . It was also said his trainer cheated on the wrap and also issued stimulants.. Although Alexis admitted Aaron beat him fairly, I'm more than certain there was bigger play in those fights.
I use to work at Caesar’s Palace here in Las Vegas, and I used to go to see training, for the fight against Araron Pryor, he’s was such a great fighter,, and a great person, we talk about other fights, very simple man, RIP.
Que bárbaro Alexis tenía dinamita en ambas manos 💪💪💥💯
"I'm a 15 round fighter. He's a 10 round fighter." That pretty much summed it up.
Interesting as that certainly changed for Mancini, at least eventually. Dude literally kills a man in the 15th round like 8 years after this.

Saturday afternoon, tv with legit title fight. Alexis absolute technician of a boxer, and Ray , as a 20 year old going in against a legend, and doing really well, what a warrior he was, and just a kid here really. Both fighters greeting each other with smiles and respect,..... a great time in boxing, those were fun days. Thanks for the upload, well done.
The Explosive Thin Man, the great Alexis Arguello was a gentleman. Godspeed sir.
Arguello Puerto Rico love you
I remember watching this fight at a friends house, the good old days when fights like this where on network TV for free.
Alexis Arguello ,one of the greatest fighters that ever lived, possibly cheated out of a Fourth World Title .
aaron pryor drug addict and drug cheat and i do feel good about it not in the same class as Alexis jumior hawk.
aaron pryor Aaron didn't have the discipline to STAY good, cola ruined the guy's career. Record to record- Pryor can't come close to the same level of achievement.

⭐️Pryor needed the blow” to beat him !
Mancini had a big heart but he was completely outclassed
Ray will always be my favorite fighter. Not only is he one of the greats to lace em up at light but he is also a wonderful and heroic man. Proud Catholic, blue collar Irish Italian kid, heart of lion and fists as good as they come. LOVE YA RAY, THANKS FOR GETTING A 4 YEAR OLD INTO A SPORT HE HAS BEEN IN NON STOP FOR 35 YEARS
He was a punching bag for everyone 😂
I talked to Arguello a couple of times, I've heard from himself the story of a couple of his fights, one of them was the one first vs. Pryor and as the teenager that I was, I asked him: "He really cheated on you with some drug?" He told me that, after lillte black bottle episode happened, he felt like his punches did not have any effect on Pryor anymore and literally told to my father and me: "I hit him with all my might, twice and one third time. I realized that I had no more options to win and I prefered to let the referee to finish the count when I was knocked down". He was a real man, a gentleman like no other in history,
You’ve never talked to him 😂😂
@@georgefromdownthehall3334 - How the F do you know, loser?

I was a serial killer in Pittsburgh robbing for food
@@lindad4148 I wonder if Panama Lewis ever loaded Pryor's gloves for a fight. I don't think Pryor would allow that but u never know.
Shows how losses don't mean anything as long as you are still committed to becoming world champion.
not to mention that Arguello isn't really a very talented fighter. he doesn't have a great chin, or blinding speed, or a high reserve of stamina nor size. all he had is his heart and punch. to compensate the lack of natural talents, he studied the sport, honed his skills and talent and learn how to fight in an old fashion way: fighting regularly.
big fan of Arguello, one of the all time greats.......... slim but can punch with either hand.. in spanish he was nickmamed "el flaco explosivo" the skinney explosive.....Rip Alexis.

Que bueno salió mí compatriota Alexis Arguello
Holy cow I was 21 when I saw this fight. I was in the military and at work. I remember catching bits of this fight on television when I could sneak away. I remember the knockout very clearly. Arguello was virtually unstoppable back then so it was no surprise when he knocked out the very game Mancini.

Saludos de California a los fans de los buenos boxeadores... que nos llenan de orgullo.
Alexis Arguello was the very definition of class.
Aguello was a master in and out of the ring. A true sporting gentleman. RIP champ.
