Everyone loves the sound of a 3406 running in the nice old Peterbilt
Those Cats have such a deep sound it’s hard to capture the full experience on camera, I’m lucky enough to have ridden in big trucks all my life, it’s something special and I recommend anybody try it out if you get a chance.
Always loved the sound of the jakes on big ass straight pipes, especially when it gets to clapping real hard at the lower RPMs, gah dang, i coulda been a politician, thank the lords good grace he made me a car guy!(diesel guy too, but diesel aint got nitromethane, so...cars win...for now...haha)
@@threadtapwhisperer5136 but you have to admit, 400-500 hp and 1200-1500 torque is pretty damn impressive, especially day in day out with few fails.

3406E. Speaks for itself. Nice nice nice. Got 3 of em. 2 of em got 2 mil miles no overhaul yet, run just fine. Rebult em myself in 2008 when I coukd see the emmisions writing on the wall, 12 injectors, a starter and 2 new air compressors (not cat parts, bendix) is literally all I've had to do to em. Don't care if they get 5mpg, they just run and running = money making. Own a couple new casscadias they spend 3 months a year min in shop on warranty work, so the 3406's pull for em, 3406, C15, 6NZ! Detroit are ok, but I'll take my cats any day, I know they get me back home

Back when I was still a Driver , here in Australia , I would always use a Straw in my Coffee for the Same Reasons you said . Plus you don't have to tip your Head back . An simple and Obvious thing really . Nice Truck . 3406E are a great engine . Cat's Best . Loud without being raucous .
I remember a time when I could downshift that smooth. Been driving automatic trucks for too long. LOL. Love the sound of that rig.

Just had work done under warranty on my 3406E cat reman, 150k miles, lost #6 cylinder due to bent oil jet spray nozzles. Cat dealer said "all our certified parts are loaded in containers, shipped to India and China and remanufactured there". The one and only yellow iron I've owned and I am greatly disappointed. Won't get fooled again, next engine conversion on the other truck will be with the tried and true, American remanufactured mean green Detroit machine. I feel for the hype, so all I can say to my brother truckers... find a shop that you absolutely trust and let them do your rebuild, because Cat as far as I am concerned, left their credibility at the door in 2007.

Nothin worse than some car/diesel video with atrocious war crimes of staticy/distorted/digitally clipped audio.
So hell yeah, man, not everyone knows enough to even consider the initial recording audio level.

It's a slightly modified 550 tune with different injectors and cam
700 hp tell us your fuel bill each week. would love to known. 4mpg. that's good. my truck gets 8.
The HP doesn't effect the mpg and I'm not always mashing it. With the tall heavy live bottom trailers I get 4.5 but with flatbed I get about 6-7 mpg.
So you have a 5ek at 700hp how many miles do you have on it?
Do you keep your rpms above 1450 while loaded heavy? I also have a 5ek at 600hp they say crank easy to break on these 5ek cause of the casting but I drive mines like I have a egg under the pedal lol.
Yup 5ek 700hp, injectors c18 cam and stage 1 Borg Warner. Mild tuning. It works with the 18spd because up like you I keep the RPMs up when loaded. Look up adeptape ok RUclips. He says all 3406e cranks are the same. I've also heard the wrong trim codes can over fuel and stress the crank
Oh and can't remember miles we started with but it's been over 3 years running local with 100k plus loads. Does well and egts stay under 900
Always great and interesting videos! Is that a suction mount or a circular clamp you use for these trailer mounted camera views?
Some times I use a suction cup with a teather and one of the trailers I have a mounting tab for the GoPro bolted on the front of the trailer.
@@Shifty379 That's cool. I was going to ask if you also use a tether haha. I drive for a recycling company based out of Mount Vernon, WA and have only really messed around with interior cab footage

Nope that's the same truck. 2-3 years ago we swapped it from the DD60 to a 3406E
