Just bought the 7th Gen and I'm loving it. It's my first Apple device since almost a decade and I don't regret skipping the Air one bit. Maybe I'm wrong.
Saurabh Gadekar: I agree just bought the 7th gen as well (and the keyboard case), and its incredibly effective in doing most of my daily work/activities (including videoconference) with very efficient power. But tempted to upgrade to the pro 12.9 for screen estate.
I’m a professional engineer, it works beautifully for noteshelf, all MS office, A360, Revit, all media, etc. in fact my old Air 2 can suffice as well. I write emails, notes, memos, reports etc, do dumbed down spreadsheets, power point. It depends on the user - i can find no compelling reason to go to top end ipad. Apple have a huge untapped market of people like me (i wow colleagues every single day) because they focus on small demographics and think thats the market. The ipad competes with ultra notebooks, until they send you a document for urgent signing - bingo! In fact, we still use an original heavy ipad at home for media - works well. I have a problem with Apple chasing a low price target by using the old pencil. The pencil is a separate purchase anyway, why not just go with the newer one. The magnetic charging alone makes it so much worth it.
Apple knows what tech geeks refuse to accept, that the 7th Gen iPad is what 90% of consumers want. Low cost to functionality ratio with Apples iPad OS and ecosystem integration and app stability.
I think the issue most tech geeks have with Apple is that their products are notably less capable many alternatives. And, depending on what you're buying, outrageously over-priced. The iPad is undoubtedly the only brand of tablet worth looking into, and thats coming from a longtime Android user, and a guy with a GNU/Linux computer.

@@marshmardgames9884 It's been on and off sale for about a couple months now. Seems to be like every other week for some reason. I agree with everything! Although it would have been nice to have the A11 chip but the difference between the A11 and A12 is minimal and wouldn’t justify the higher end iPad Air. The addition of 50% more RAM was needed as the OS has become far more bloated when it comes to background processes. I do think a 256GB option should be added, at least for the next update! I also agree the front camera should have been upgraded to 5MP as it still does 720p video versus 7MP 1080p. So for next update I’m hoping for at least A11 with 3GB RAM, 5MP front camera and 256GB option! 🤞🏻✌🏻🙏🏻
Watched this on my 7th gen iPad. Scored it on sale from BestBuy for $279(It seems they are on sale frequently right now. ) I enjoy it and it is great over all so far. The biggest complaint I have is, videos do not utilize the entire screen and feel scrunched into the middle of the screen while also having huge bezels. So, if you're someone like me who enjoys watching a lot of RUclips, Netflix, Twitch, etc, You may find it a bit hard to get used to. Other than that 1 issue, I definitely think this iPad is worth the buy. Especially when you can shop around a bit and find it on sale for under $300 most of the time.
My wife purchased this for my birthday. I'll be using this new iPad and she'll get her older 9 inch iPad back. The 10.2 screen replaces my Dell 27" All-in-One. Purchased in 2011, the Dell only operates with Windows 7 which will no longer be supported by MS. I'll use this for the time being along with my son's hand-me-down iPhone 5s. 100% with you origami > folio keyboard! This Smart Keyboard also hasn't malfunctioned the way the laptop ones have. I've been using mine with my 10.5" 2017 Pro for around a year (got it certified refurb) and am loving iPad OS. I hope to get a Pencil sometime soon, as well.
Hmm, your camera for the headshots looks very soft in focus. Also still flickering from the lights in the background. Was better on whatever equipment/setting you used before :)
I got the original IPad Pro 9 inch version (bought it when it first came out) and I am looking at either the newer Air or Pro. I may just wait till the newer models come out later this year and see what the specs are.
Joey Wyatt Same here. If you’re like me and use it just as a media device, same yourself $30, $50 or even $75 and get the 128GB previous edition on sale. At less than $300, it’s a steal for that use case. Load it up with downloaded videos and a NYC to Tokyo flight is no problem.
I am still undecided on which iPad should I get... what would be better for a grad student seeking for an iPad toward easier access to ebooks and taking notes? Would the base iPad fulfill the expectations? On a side note: Rene must be waiting a bit more to make that Airpods Pro video. What Apple published was not enough to make a clean stance on the new product. Waiting here from Puerto Rico patiently for your video on those new airpods Rene! Keep up the good work.
Hey David! Hope I’m not too late with this response! Depending on your specific uses, this base model may actually be a great fit for you. I have 2 videos on my channel that should help decide whether the base model is good for students. You can firstly check out my review of this 7th gen, and the my “Laptop Alternative for Students”. If you still have any questions after this videos, feel free to comment and I’d be happy to answer anything I can over on my channel!
If apple ask me what feature that i would like to trade, I would rather pick the laminated display than the smart connector which will cost you an extra bucks
You shouldn't buy this tablet. 32GB is way too little storage. You have to jump to the 128gb option. Now you're at $429. This chip probably only has 2yrs of left of support. It may have only have one year left of support. If you're in the market for an iPad, you should start with the Air.
Karl SMA 😄 the biggest thing you are forgetting is that... “It depends”. How you use your tablet and how others do, might be different. Also, I don’t think Apple would announce a new product with a chip that would stop being supported in 2 years (which... by the way, is all I got from my nexus 4... 2 year support 🤣 that was the point when I started hating google.. though had other android phones and tablets after it)
I think many users could get by but I am not among them its very easy to fill that 32gb with music or games heck even 64 your right 128 is the way to go if not higher
@@maxroman2010 they stopped supporting the iPhone 6 this year. That means the 6S won't get 14 and the 7 won't get iOS 15. You can expect that the current Apple TV and the iPad won't be supported in 2 yrs.
The chipset is fine but I agree on storage. But it depends on one’s use case. I have a ton of media downloaded on my 2018 iPad , specifically for offline use (e.g. 10 hours flight). But if you’re always streaming, 32GB is just fine. Also, find the 2018 or 2017 version on deep discount and get 128GB for less than $300.
Karl SMA 😊 I know what and when they stopped supporting))) thanks. But they didn’t “just introduce” an iPad with that chipset, did they? 🤦♂️ real simple argument here: if Apple introduces a new product, they will be supporting it for more that 1-2 years. Because, like in your example, all products with iPhone 6 A8 chip have been supported for 4+ years
I have a large iTunes library so 64gb is my sweet spot and I like True Tone and the laminated display so the extra cost of the Air would be worth it to me. On the other hand when the base iPad goes on those sales for $250 usd it’s also very tempting. A NEW IPAD FOR $250! Why not?
Want to get an iPad for procreate but can't really afford the more expensive ones right now *Update - got it and it's amazing lol definitely pick one up
@## sevvven I havent used procreat but medibang paint for ipad works really well. I have the 128gb version but it all depends if use cloud storage a lot. I had trouble using storage on my ipods too so if heavy user get 128gb sometimes on sale too.
I’m kind of conflicted about this iPad refresh. It’s a good device but now the smallest iPad screen is the Mini. The older 9.7in screen was a nice in-between if you needed more screen than the mini but not quite enough screen as the Air. Now the lines are a little more blurred.
I think this is the only product Apple shine, even myself an android enthusiast find ipad really good because android is just awful with tab, I hope apple realize this and try to dominate the tab market.
Nathan Hopp Totally comes down to personal preference. If you think the bigger screen is worth the extra $, then I’d pick up the bigger display. Check out my most recent video to get a better idea of the size comparison! I think you’d love whither iPad you pick up!
Agreed. One of the best values in tech. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and the very original iPad. Yes, that one. I think it's time to upgrade my iPad, and I believe this perfectly fits the bill.
Great review. You forgot to mention the bump in RAM confirmed by iFixit from 2 to 3 Gb. That makes it a bit more future proof or the next best thing to a processor upgrade.
I love the smaller sides, it might sound ridiculous but the amount of white on the sides was really bothering me, I saw both the air and the 2019 in the store and the air maybe has a laminated display but paying 500$ for just that? I know it has a better processor but also just 3 GB of ram so definitely not worth it for me lol
I have been using iPad 10.2 for almost a month. The back of the iPad is a bit slippery and got scratches after some time. To protect it I ordered a full body screen protector from gadgetshieldz.
$445 starting price in sweden... :/ This includes VAT (Value added tax) and import taxes. I really never understood how taxes worked in the US. Are you able to buy the iPad for $329 and thats it or do you have to pay taxes on top of that depending which state you live in? Thanks for great content! :)
Between 2.9 and 8.25% but also 5 states do not charge sales tax. You can still buy online in certian places and not pay sales tax although you will pay shipping charges in some cases.
Hey!! I like your review. But could you please tell me one thing? How will it perform under MS OFFICE and Excel usage?? Will it become slow? I would like buy it for my wife who is a graduate student. Will it be wise?? Plz, let me know.
My last iPad is the 3rd gen and it still works outside of apps being outdated. Lol! I wanted the pro for my music production but I’ll stick to this for a while!
Here I am watching this on my ipad 4, yeah im B R O K E. But for real I am surprised how this ipad can still hold up today, its obviously not as awesome as the newer models but its good
Ehh, I prefer to upgrade iPad every 4-5 years, so I think I’ll just get the iPad Air since it’ll probably last me longer than this one. Maybe, since it’s Apple, it may last as long lol
Quack Watch 🤷♂️ you aren’t good at making someone feel bad 🤣)) if you can’t understand simple words such as “he can recommend other iPads”, then you must be really stupid
Quack Watch he will not recommend all apple products, but only good ones. And he has plenty iPads to choose from if this one isn’t good. 🤦♂️ if you even a bit watched his videos, you’d know. 😊 and you are just a stupid troll))))) 🤣 if you have a tablet at all, chances are that it is an iPad))) so i just keep wondering, why do you stupid trolls exist
Quack Watch I love Rene. Follow his work. And he has never failed to factually review all good things and bad things about a product. Also, he many times called out to Apple about things he didn’t like. 🤷♂️ That’s why I am saying he doesn’t recommend this iPad because of being a fanboy, but because he is clever 🤦♂️ unlike you, and he sees clearly use-cases for some people for this iPad (just like I do). This iPad might not be right for you, but it is definitely right for some. 🤷♂️ mute all you want. It will not help you to gain even a little bit of perspective, which you lack. And thanks for your hopes 😊 I actually don’t need any help 🤔 maybe it was just your second personality that said “you need help” to your first one.. I wouldn’t leave it for too long if I were you.
Thanks for the informative video. But for those of you who are actually interested in this specific iPad, and not just a video comparing it to more expensive models, check out my 1 month later review. I know most of you are actually interested in this iPad specific capabilities and not how it compares to more expensive models. So if you do want to know more about the performance and capabilities of this iPad, check out my review. :)
I always love this trick in your videos: “hit like if you do, hit subscribe....” and of course our brain automatically expects there to be an alternative))) I.e. “hit like if you do, hit subscribe if you don’t”)))
Artemiy Nizovtsev id say it’s the 12.9. he must of made a mistake as the 10.5” ipad air screen is the smallest bit smaller and that ipad is much bigger
Good video. I have just taken the plunge with my first apple product. The ipad 10.2 with keyboard and pen. Does anyone know how long these iPads are supported for ? If its not supported in 3 years time then that defeats the object of buying iPads... needless to say I wouldn’t be buying any more apple products if they end of life the ipad that soon but if it’s supported longer then ok
You can expect > 5 years support for OS and update. Btw I still have iPad 3 and although it's not supported with latest iOS, it's still fully functional, especially for media consumption. As far as I remember, I just changed the battery once.
I agree! It’ll last a very long time as long as you take care of it! You’ll get frequent updates for the next many years, and once Apple does stop supporting a firmware upgrade, it’ll still run very well on the firmware it’ll be on!
Really love the part about paper -> pencil, typewriter ; tablet -> stylus, keyboard. That's exactly why I want tablets that do more than collect smudge marks from pudgy fingers :).
Not quite the same price, last years model was released at $329, but came down to $250 for several months prior to the release of the 7th gen. So technically it’s $80 cheaper. Not sure what they sell for currently
I missed BestBuy's Mother's Day sale on the iPad 2019. I'm going to hope there's another sale on Memorial Day weekend... To answer your question, "Is this the iPad I've been waiting for?", I *thought* it was. I was ready to purchase, but I saw videos suggesting that the 2017 Pro might be a better option. My use the iPad is to consume content, not to produce content. Same processor, more RAM, more speakers, 120 Hz, laminated screen. Significant price difference, but getting the improved options may be right for someone who consumes content. Thoughts?
I think they are still ripping us off with the accessories. I bought this entry level Ipad precisely because I am broke , so after spending 329 dollars on the ipad , I just don't see myself being able to afford another 159 for the keyboard , and 99 for the apple pencil , which are both what makes this new ipad relevant. :(
Patrick Lim should have waited until Black Friday for the iPad. It’s going to be $249. Apple Pencil used for $60 and keyboard for $36 right now on eBay lol.
I am now for the long haul on this one. Probably for the next 5 years after I got a killer deal on a like new 128gb version. I was a prior owner of a 3rd gen so this one can only be better.
just wait till it gets a deep discount during the holidays for like 220 or 250. itll be a great steal. and during the normal year it can be usually around 280. least thts how it was for the 6th gen ipad.
I had the same question and now looking for a great deal for ipad pro 2nd gen. Because I like to game. The ProMotion tech and higher refresh rate screen in the Pros make the games run smoother to the eyes. That's why even if it has the A10x chip (older tech compared to ipad air/mini 2019 A12 chip), it is still delivers. Plus, higher ram (1gb more), which I believe helps the games run smoother. I've seen another review where they played a game on the iPad air vs Pro; the game ran smoother on the Pro.
If anything I mentioned above is not of importance (gaming, higher refresh rate screen, more ram, promotion), then going for the iPad or even the mini (for better chip), is your best option.
Is it a good choice to buy? I'm just having on iPad watching movies, Netflix & RUclips. I also need good battery life & average camera performance. Anyone please suggest
I have a 5th gen iPad (2017) with the A9 processor, 128gb of storage. It’s a great iPad and does everything I need it to do. However, I’m intrigued by the bigger screen and the fact that it has, according to a number of tear down sources, 3 gb of RAM, compared to 2gb for the previous models. And I’m one of those people who wants to spend the least amount of money on an iPad so the 2019 version sounds like it would be a good upgrade for me. But then there’s the refurbished market for IPads too. Lots of good deals in that market but I’m not the most keen on used anything. Perhaps that could be a topic for a video? I think it would be interesting to get your perspective on the used Apple products market. Keep up the good work.
I just bought ipad 10.2 7th gen wifi only, but it's quite hard to try to connect it to my dana account cause after i confirmed the connection between my app store or apple id with my dana accout, it always repeats the same process. No success notification but reprocesses the prosedure. I need to but some aplications for my job, but how to connect the wifi only type with my dana account? Anyone has the same case? Not true. The 32 Gb model in Spain is 379€, (Wi-fi only), in the Apple Store, (the 128 Gb model is 479€; there is no 64 Gb option), and you can get it for as low as 329€ online now at places like eBay, if you hunt for it, which will deliver to Spanish addresses. Not American prices but also not 500+ €. You always have to remember that European prices include the 21% VAT while American prices are before sales tax which can vary fron none to 8.25% depending on where, (geographically speaking), and how it is bought.
@@Corlea To apple store www.apple.es, to eBay listings you have to hunt them. There are currently no European sourced ones on spanish eBay, they pop up every few days. Just catalog a search on eBay like "iPad 7th gen 32 Gb” and have it notify you when new listings are published.

I have 2 videos on my channel that should help decide whether the base model is good for students. You can firstly check out my review of this 7th gen, and the my “Laptop Alternative for Students”. If you still have any questions after this videos, feel free to comment and I’d be happy to answer anything I can over on my channel!
If apple ask me what feature that i would like to trade,
I would rather pick the laminated display than the smart connector which will cost you an extra bucks
Is this iPad worth it for a person upgrading from an iPad mini 1st generation ?
Yep
Gone Cubing oh thx for replying I’ve actually already got iPad in June
is it wise to wait for ipad air4 with new features or should i buy ipad air3 with no fast charging
Seems better...can you please tell me how much storage is available by default for users(for apps and other stuff) in a 32gb ipad
But.... I like to hear you say : " This is Vector! " :-)
Why not?
Want to get an iPad for procreate but can't really afford the more expensive ones right now
*Update - got it and it's amazing lol definitely pick one up
Did you get this one or the Pro?
@@bhodges00 7th gen 2019 in the 32GB variant
I bought one last week at Amazon for 329 but it’s the 129gb. I also got the Zagg Rugged Messenger keyboard. Both are great.
Thanks I was wondering if the much cheaper 2019 10.2 was worth it over the pro. Which one good for drawing?
@## sevvven I havent used procreat but medibang paint for ipad works really well. I have the 128gb version but it all depends if use cloud storage a lot. I had trouble using storage on my ipods too so if heavy user get 128gb sometimes on sale too.
I’m kind of conflicted about this iPad refresh. It’s a good device but now the smallest iPad screen is the Mini. The older 9.7in screen was a nice in-between if you needed more screen than the mini but not quite enough screen as the Air. Now the lines are a little more blurred.
2:38 That's what she said 😏
Also at 0:56
I think this is the only product Apple shine, even myself an android enthusiast find ipad really good because android is just awful with tab, I hope apple realize this and try to dominate the tab market.
Should I get the 32gb or the 128 gb model? Also, Is the 9.7 inch 32gb model at $250 a better buy than the 10.2 new at $330?
I'm enjoying my iPad 10.2 for now. I may upgrade later this year
$445 starting price in sweden... :/ This includes VAT (Value added tax) and import taxes. I really never understood how taxes worked in the US. Are you able to buy the iPad for $329 and thats it or do you have to pay taxes on top of that depending which state you live in? Thanks for great content! :)
I believe sales tax is added while buying. Every state has a different sales tax, that’s why the prices are usually displayed without sales tax
Almost every state in the U.S. has some kind of sale tax, so add 4-8% on top of $329.
Will iPad 10.2 still work fine in 2024?
My last iPad is the 3rd gen and it still works outside of apps being outdated. Lol! I wanted the pro for my music production but I’ll stick to this for a while!
Here I am watching this on my ipad 4, yeah im B R O K E. But for real I am surprised how this ipad can still hold up today, its obviously not as awesome as the newer models but its good
I still have a working ipad 4 and this new ipad. Love them both!
U seriouly need an upgrade lmao
I got my iPad 7th gen for $250 so yeah very very happy with this thing. I love everything about it and don’t need all that the pro has.
I think I'm getting it for Christmas. I'm so excited!!
Great deal. You’d also be surprised how many apps you can fit in the 32gb.
just got mine yesterday its really great
Does it support wireless charging
I just want an Ipad for streaming movies and videos, and playing games( non-heavy games) is this ipad going to do it?
this ipad can run cod n pubg without a problem, so yes its good.
What causes that flickering in the background lights that I’ve never noticed before
Keegan Briskey I noticed that too
Probably a misplaced LED light which will never play well with a video recording device.
ipads pro sounds weird i think it make more sense to say other ipad pros
"So I've been using this iPad for 3 years now"
Ehh, I prefer to upgrade iPad every 4-5 years, so I think I’ll just get the iPad Air since it’ll probably last me longer than this one. Maybe, since it’s Apple, it may last as long lol
stephen that’s what I’ll do upgrade from mini 4
Confusing!! R u suggesting to buy or asking to avoid iPad 7!!!!
Quack Watch that answer... silly troll. Apart from iPad 7, he can recommend other iPads too, even if he is a fan boy 🤦♂️.
Quack Watch He can recommend other iPad lines too
Quack Watch 🤷♂️ you aren’t good at making someone feel bad 🤣)) if you can’t understand simple words such as “he can recommend other iPads”, then you must be really stupid
Great deal I bought it for my Uber driving in my car. Love it
I have iPad 2 should I get this
Yes I'm getting one I have a I pad Mini 1 can't wait
Thanks for the informative video. But for those of you who are actually interested in this specific iPad, and not just a video comparing it to more expensive models, check out my 1 month later review. I know most of you are actually interested in this iPad specific capabilities and not how it compares to more expensive models. So if you do want to know more about the performance and capabilities of this iPad, check out my review. :)
My original iPad Pro 12.9” has a A9X chip... how does that compare to the current iPad A10?
I always love this trick in your videos: “hit like if you do, hit subscribe....” and of course our brain automatically expects there to be an alternative))) I.e. “hit like if you do, hit subscribe if you don’t”)))
Wait... at 1:20, is that really the 11" iPad Pro? It looks so huge compared to the others, I'd think it was 12.9"...
Artemiy Nizovtsev id say it’s the 12.9. he must of made a mistake as the 10.5” ipad air screen is the smallest bit smaller and that ipad is much bigger
Yeah. It’s 12.9. I messed up the caption.
@@vector3578 Oh I thought that!
@@kikisidhartataha ok thank you for the reply
So I get a bigger iPad, with Apple Pencil support, that supports all the same apps, for the same price as last years model?
Last year's model also supported the Apple pencil
Not quite the same price, last years model was released at $329, but came down to $250 for several months prior to the release of the 7th gen. So technically it’s $80 cheaper. Not sure what they sell for currently
iPAD 2019 HAVING 3GB of RAM I think [ major difference + 10.2'' screen vs iPAD 2018
He is that type of kid who always trying to show off in school and say mine is better
10.2 2019 7th gen or ipad pro 10.5 2017? For drawing and Netflix?
Is this a full review part 2? Or review of your experince on the ipad?
I missed BestBuy's Mother's Day sale on the iPad 2019. I'm going to hope there's another sale on Memorial Day weekend... To answer your question, "Is this the iPad I've been waiting for?", I *thought* it was. I was ready to purchase, but I saw videos suggesting that the 2017 Pro might be a better option. My use the iPad is to consume content, not to produce content. Same processor, more RAM, more speakers, 120 Hz, laminated screen. Significant price difference, but getting the improved options may be right for someone who consumes content. Thoughts?
Great video. I'm not well-versed in the Apple universe, so this was helpful for researching my purchase. Many thanks.
I wish the iPad had better palm rejection when using a pencil
????? Which one do you have ?
I have I pad air 2 should I buy this one
juggerknot100 No, get the new air
same question here
I am coming from a iPad 2 generation and oh my i love it so much it is way better then the 2 generation 😝
I wish Apple would come out with an E INK E READER Ipad. I want to read stuff without frying my eyes and it still being an Apple.
sam guapo I Would SO buy that! Yes.
COME ON APPLE. IPAD E INK, EREADER OR EMULATOR hehehehe
$329. What so cheap in your country. In my country $800 ipad mini 5 64gb
Should I buy a( 2nd hand) ipadpro 2nd gen 12.9 inch or the new iPad 10.2 2019 model ?
@@lazyPawdy thanks a lot for taking your valuable time to reply. Love from India 🙏🙏
Bought this as soon as it was available, it’s been a great experience
Mohammed Nma Mohammed that’s awesome dude! I love mine too!
Is it a good choice to buy? I'm just having on iPad watching movies, Netflix & RUclips. I also need good battery life & average camera performance. Anyone please suggest
For me it’s not, I have the 6th generation and just for Smart Keyboard support is not justification for change mine for this.
I still got my iPad 2, it barely works, it's so slow
My mom has the old iPad and it’s soo slow
lets face it, if you have this ipad, you probably also have an iPhone with a better camera. So, for me, no issue.
Totally agree! I actually mention that in my review haha
Nope, a note 9 with a better camera...and a XS for work which I hate
This is the iPad I decided to go with. For me it’s a heck of an upgrade from the Samsung tablet I have.
Or anyone know how to solve this problem? Please kindly share here. Thank you so much 🤧

I really hate that Geekbench 5 changed how they score devices.
329$? In europe, or, especially in Spain, the new "iPad" cheap version for "poor" people, its around 525euros, the 64gb model.
