The latest 7th generation iPad has is a nice bump over last years with a larger screen and slightly better specs but what is it like to use? Can it compare to the iPad Pro or even the latest iPad Air in performance?

They really could've come up with a better naming system for iPads.

Yeah, confusing as heck, especially since this and the air look identical to the layman now.

The Air coming back was the biggest mistake and throws the whole thing off. They should have kept that product dead. Have iPad, iPad Mini, and iPad Pro. Heaven for bid they bring the 11” pro down to the $500-600 range to close the gap.

Syuna the Air line was gone for a couple of years. Then they randomly brought it back. It’s a useless line of products. The “iPad is the base model that now sells for $329. It’s literally called iPad 7th gen. It’s the 7th revision of the mainline iPad that originally released in 2010. The air should never have come back. It makes the whole line confusing and cluttered.

Bradley Thatcher The air would have been fine, had the ipad 7 not gotten the smart connector. The air’s key difference now is it’s a12 (iPhone XS) vs the ipad 7’s a10 (iPhone 7). The air would have been a great “I want alittle more (gaming, Office work, and higher edu), but not an iPad Pro, bit now the iPad 7 is trying for that same spot.

I have an ipad 6 with 128gb, bought it in march and do art on it DAILY. I also use it for university (for notes and shorter papers, paired with a logitech cover) and it is perfect. I can not imagine a pro being more effective and it is for the most part replacing my laptop. Just some long papers i write at uni and maybe once a month borrow my partners macbook for a task.
So, bottom line, if you are a student/person on the go and wanna do some art, i can highly recommend an ipad!

Mr.PitVIPER HC Works fine for me but I don’t play any games on it. I just use Procreate and Affinity Designer on it. I think the only limitation would be if you want, for example, 5000x5000 px you’re limited on number of layers. For example that size would be a max of 4 layers. There are workarounds for that but that’s a very large file.

    40-90 layers!?
When I draw, I usually have one line layer and then maybe 2 or 3 layers for colors and tones. And then I might repeat that for a few background elements. A finished scene may have a dozen or two dozen layers AT MOST.
Not saying there aren't any good uses for a gazillion layers. But for my workflow, I try to keep it as simple as possible. Can't imagine navigating through so many layers.

I had a 10th gen iPad ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

Like I wish I could put all my photos on my phone, into a flash drive via drag and drop onto any computer without having to download iTunes. It kills me bc the iPhone is what I trust for safety and it works seamlessly even being a SE (5), and being 2-3 years old.

I'm getting it for Christmas. I can't wait to use it! I used my iPad 4 for drawing all these years using bluetooth styluses. I have had my iPad 4 for seven years. Now that it is starting to freeze up on me and lag really bad, it was time for an upgrade. I tried the Apple Pencil in the apple store and it was amazing! It was 100 times better than my bluetooth styluses I was using for my iPad 4. I want to download apps like Adobe Fresco and Affinity Designer and I can't because my iPad 4 is too old. I have Procreate on my iPad 4. When I bought Procreate for my iPad 4, it was $5.99. Procreate and Inkpad are my go tos on my iPad 4. Now they're freezing and lagging and all the drawing apps I have on it are hard to use. I can't wait to get it!

After the Adobe Fresco money grab I’m worried they’re going to do the same with photoshop when it finally drops. It frustrates me because I do pay for CC each month but because I don’t pay for the entire suite of apps Adobe still wants me to pay an additional $10 a month for Fresco and I have a feeling they’re going to do the same with photoshop which isn’t right. I pay for photoshop monthly on my computer so to make me have to pay monthly on my iPad also would be pure greed and wrong. IMO.

    • @Buzzed4LightYears
      @Buzzed4LightYears 4 года назад +19

Sean Adams oh I won’t be switching to Fresco. Procreate is miles better still. Fresco is a really great app, but it is NOT worth $10 dollars a month by any stretch of the imagination. That’s what people are upset about. It’s just not worth what Adobe is asking when apps like Procreate exist and it makes Adobe come off as money hungry vultures. I’m obviously not the only person who feels this way either. Not to mention back when Adobe unveiled the app on Apples stage, they stated that if you were a CC subscriber than the app would be free. They never said you had to be a CC subscriber of the entire suite. The main thing though is as good as the app is, it’s not worth what they’re asking. That’s just my opinion though.

Honestly this is the best deal you could possibly get for this price range. I use it for school work and taking notes. drawing, typing, web surfing, and homework are all possible on this. I don’t need a powerful portable computer when I have my gaming pc which is more than powerful to edit or create. I don’t mobile game either. I wanted something extremely light without a big charger. This is better than a labtop for me. I only use RUclips, google, Instagram, Twitter, Microsoft word, PowerPoint, and google docs and it’s perfect for portable use.

Best part of this review is watching you draw, man! Yes, it’s a bang for the buck thing. And now that we can use a drive or memory card contraption on iOS, the memory limit is not such a big deal...not for an artist anyway. If I had to outfit a small team, say to create artwork for an animation software, (like MOHO) this is how I’d go. But I’m incredibly cheap.

iPad Air 3 has lamentated display, true tone, it doesn't have the supa-awesome ProMotion-high-refresh-rate. So the screen itself if on par with the 9.7" iPad Pro. Don't feel bad for not getting the Pro; if it works, it works.

Any Apple Pencil supported iPad will be great for drawing. If you on a budget maybe a second hand older Pro is better value. I use my iPad Pro literally everyday for work, the extra cash is worth it for me, as the incremental things are worth it for a luxury stand point, but in all honesty if I didn’t have a choice, my work on an entry level iPad with pencil support would probably look the same.

Why is Apple not offering a soft tip along the hard tip that the Apple Pencil currently has? It would be the best of all worlds. I somehow got used a bit to the hard clack on the glass, however there is a community that just would love a softer tip, that feels more like pen on paper, and has a bit more resistance too (less slippery than hard plastic on glass).
And as far as I can see, it would not be an impossible engineering task either. The tip is easily replaceable, there only is no alternative right now.

One of the best purchases I’ve made in a while, as Apple products often are for me... I don’t like fanboying but I got the iPhone and instantly realized the benefits (and limitations/downsides) of iPhone vs Samsung and realized I preferred iOS after MANY years of always having the latest Galaxy. And they WERE better. Apple just stepped it’s game up. I got a watch for it. Amazing extension and it makes my daily life easier all the time. Then I grabbed this iPad, LOVE it. Perfect for what I use it for. Mainly a desktop PC person so just needed tablet for some drawing and light tasks. Apple Pencil for it was a fantastic purchase. Then I recently got some AirPods after trying many TWS headphones, and they’re the bees knees.
I always order wondering “Eh, is it as good as people make it seem? Overhyped? Will I use it that much?” And I’m consistently impressed, even while I’m usually buying 1 earlier gen, or finding refurbished etc.

boi i use clip studio on my 6th gen ipad and it's amazing, i only have it for a month but it works amazingly even on large document ( currently working on a 6361 x 12118 @ 300dpi ), the only problem i ran into is some slowdown every now and then, even with working on large document in clip studio it doesn't lag ( assuming you don't work with 1000 brush size ) the only thing i noticed with the slow a10 chip is saving times which isn't slow but takes couple of second and takes some time using magic wand tool, since this is my first ipad with apple pencil i would say this is absolutely a great option for beginner who is trying stuff and not willing to drop a bunch of money, oh and the parallex isn't a big deal i don't notice it while drawing day to day, it isn't a big issue
edit: today my work got a little heavy and using big blender is slow as HELL and exporting it takes like a few minutes, so if you are working with large documents all the time go with the pro models, but overall the iPad is just fine I made a mistake when upscaling the file I'm working on which is why it ended up so huge

@@3polygons yeah, I choose to pay for it annually which is slightly cheaper than monthly, I hate the subscription but it's worth it imo

I see... to each his own, if works for you, works for u. I have this obsession against subscriptions, lol. But if the annual price is fine, I can understand it (not that I'd do it, but I understand). Clip Studio is such a wonder. I wish they'd change the subscription to perpetual at the tablet too, at some point (so that you would upgrade only if necessary). And I say it only because I don't like that business model, as there's no way am gonna use a tablet. Happily, the doubts/fears on if it'd make the desktop version go subscription model too have long gone...

I haven’t seen the video yet (and sincerely don’t care), but YES, iPad 7th gen is great.

Your video helped me a lot to clear my mind. my samsung tablet was falling short so I bought an Ipad 10"2 because I don't have the means to buy an Ipad Pro. But I can barely buy a pro when I give you some use to the one I just bought!

Just scrolling the Instagram and drooling over other people's work :D
Nothing serious or daily, just the occasional ink drawing for fun.
