Lost track of Shane after my teen years and only met him a few times after that. But good chldhood memories skiing in mountain club ski schools will never forget. It is good to let go but always good to remember the good times and positive things he shared with all of us.
It´s so bizarre when you think about it. Erik Roner talking about his dear friend Shane McConkey who had passed away 4 years ago and now Erik is gone too. It makes me so sad, they were both grounded guys and loving fathers. I know they died doing what they loved, but it breaks my heart thinking about their kids growing up without them. RIP Erik Roner
Roner! What an amazing vid, perfect tribute to Shane! .Cool that you stopped by the twin falls bridge. Everyone in the Boise skiing community sure misses Shane!
The music that came on at the Twins Falls Bridge made this video so sick! One of the coolest and best videos I've seen! Huge fan Nitro and Roner Vision and it was so sick you came all the way to my province of BC for this!
None of us know shane, so who are we to say if this is a good or bad idea to honor his friend if we don't even know him??. but from what i can see his friend shane was very important to him and probably would be so happy right now for what his buddy did to honor him. good job man!!! thats a real friend right there
Holy shit man, congrats! Didn't know Shane but watched tons of documentaries about his life and that guy was awesome. This stunt really was Shane's style, gotta tell you that! Wish you all the best my friend, blue skies.
i cant believe all the hating go on in the comments. Roner was honoring a fallen friend and a guy who lived a life pushing the boundaries. show a little respect
Erik Roner is answering questions about this video on Reddit right now! That's a great question to ask him. See the link to the conversation in the video description!
Well obviously since you didn't know Shane you don't really know what you're talking about...right? This wasn't about promoting myself just because we made an edit to share. I full filled a dream a best friend and I had for many years ... I would consider that honor and I know he would be very proud.
You can make the case that the 'bile could have been given to a grom or whatever, but you can't convince me that Shane wouldn't be totally psyched by the sight of E Roner RIDING his old snowmobile through space as it plummets towards the ground. I'm not a big fan of 'bilin', but that was sick. I'm also not a huge fan of destroying useful things, but sometimes a send-off has to be a send-off. Hey @theerikroner maybe you have an old sled you can donate to a grom or a needy skier, in Shane's name??
To those of you who question his motivation or think Erik or any other of the adventure/extreme athletes are being irresponsible because "life is too precious to waste", I say that that argument is exactly the reason why they do it. Life is too precious to waste sitting on couch saying, "If things where different, I could do that! I'm just too old (or I don't have the money)." Just be careful on your way drug for that beer. A stubbed toe hurts, even if you're drunk!
To those that thought this was negative or pointless, Shane and I talked lots about a snowmobile BASE jump. He would be SO stoked to know I sent his off an 800ft cliff. It was on its last leg so giving it away would be pointless. I kept pieces I've given to fans, friends, family and will auction off to support the SM foundation. I was honoring and fulfilling a dream I had with one of my best friends. His ashes are in an urn at his wife's house with the instructions to spread all over the world.
Appearances, especially on YT, are everything my friend. When something seems a certain way, then that is how most people are going to perceive it. If you really had a specific intention with this vid, then to most people it would seem logical that you would make that intention very clear. Especially on a subject like this. By the comments, I'd say your alleged intention was not. Lesson learned or truth revealed? It's all up to the interwebbers now.
i hope my life is exciting enough that my friends feel the need to spread my ashes in places so majestic that you need to transport the remains in a ziplock bag. Say a few words, shed a tear, and then have the time of their life.
RIP McConkey. for all of the haters, you obviously have no idea how much Shane did for the sport of skiing. Have you ever heard of fat rocker pow skis, we have Shane to thank for those, so shut up if you know nothing. check out how his legacy is being carried on by his foundation.
He almost died right here. *LOL* And the winner of the Darwin Month of September Award goes to..... the asshole who f*cked up a completely good snowmobile. *Goodnight, old friend!*
I honestly think it was an idiotic thing to do. Shane died jumping of a cliff, disposing/destryoing something of his in that way is just disrepectful towards shane!
Seems quite a few agree with me so I can't be that far off. Besides, how bout you explain "exactly" how destroying a gift from a recently deceased friend to publicly promote one's self is in any way honoring to the deceased friend. Would love to hear that explanation.
I was just stating an opinion and observations. At no time did i get insulting like you have decided to. I guess I hit a nerve. The people who are "clued in" don't get so easily upset. And I'm not trying to "win" anything here. lol. Relax dude, this is just a comment section on youtube, nothing to get shaken about. Just people sharing thoughts and opinions. Harmless stuff. Take care and I hope things get better with ya.
Legit shed a tear at the end with his kid.

Can't even imagine what that must have felt like. Great job Erik! Amazing tribute.

This is what a real friend looks like.
Died doing what he loved. I wouldn't want to go any other way. You were the radest dude out there man. Rest easy.
Thanks for speaking up!! Glad you enjoyed!
To anyone who thinks this was a dumb idea, i hope you go think about your life because this is a great way to honor a friend and what he loved to do.
Thank for getting it Josh...This meant a lot to me. Some people are so short sighted...
this has got to be one of the most emotional things that Erik has had to do ever but Shane would want it to be that way
Roner! What an amazing vid, perfect tribute to Shane! .Cool that you stopped by the twin falls bridge. Everyone in the Boise skiing community sure misses Shane!
We can't wait for that one!
The music that came on at the Twins Falls Bridge made this video so sick! One of the coolest and best videos I've seen! Huge fan Nitro and Roner Vision and it was so sick you came all the way to my province of BC for this!
So much fun...thanks for the support!!
so sad...He talks about Shanes death and now he died the same way. I hope they are united again..
Cant wait to be there!!! see you soon!
Great tribute and just an all round awesome video!
Thanks Zack! Much appreciated.

Why is their so much hate for this video really don't get it, what an awesome send off!!!
i cant believe all the hating go on in the comments. Roner was honoring a fallen friend and a guy who lived a life pushing the boundaries. show a little respect
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen
Im amazed how Erik Roner is keeping up with comments!
Thanks...we worked hard collecting every piece.
R.I.P. Eric I'm sure the sky diving is great in heaven.

This is a beautiful video
Hats off to you man.
great job Erik!
youre the shit Erik! keep livin it up
Agreed!!

Fuck can't believe the news... rest in peace! Thoughts go out to his family :(
Shane would be stoked!
Perfect send off bro, Awesome.

Rest in Peace, Erik.
So, is this like... the first action sports video you've ever seen or something?
I really wasn't expecting this reaction from Steve Jones, haha
R.I.P. Shane
Awesome send off!
That was one of those trips that worked out really well. Its not always like that.
Fitting tribute. RIP
And that's what Shane was all about!!
"We are very green here at Roner Vision"
*shot of helicopter* =')
Thanks!

Respect.
Balls of steel to stay focused and get the nose down to jump off.
its what shane would of wanted, shane wasn't one for traditional shit but more out of the box thinking, thats what made him such a great man
rip bro. you had more balls than me:/
Erik, you are my idol
Roner was just stating his opinion that your opinion wasn't a very good one.
Is it adviceable to BASE jump if you have severe flatulence?
Great video - looks like someone below needs to leave the computer alone and go outdoors
how is only 19 likes a sign that quite a few people agree? out of almost 135K viewers?
RESPECT
This may seem like a stupid question, but those weren't his actual ashes right???

I live in sunvalley which is 1 hour away from twin falls I've jumped of that bridge it's far but not REALLY far it was so cool
RIP Erik!
RIP
That's so sick
That was just so so mad!
wow, what a send off
cool trick! whats the song during the jump?
rest in peace hero!
At ~30seconds you say you can't sell it and at the end you sold it?
How many gopro cameras were lost in the filming of this video?
Someone should do the same for him
Rest in peace
He BASE jumped with a tricycle once too. But i don't hear anyone bringing up the "needy action sports child" agruement on that one.
I didn't know that so many people cared about proper snowmobile disposal ?
rest in peace Eric
REST IN PEACE :(
Oh yes...Oskar will have his latest stunt released soon
RIP so sad😭#legend
i hope my life is exciting enough that my friends feel the need to spread my ashes in places so majestic that you need to transport the remains in a ziplock bag. Say a few words, shed a tear, and then have the time of their life.
Hmm possibly, I would personally see it as disrespectful if it were done to me but i get your point
R.I.P
I agree to every single word you said.,
Depends where you are I guess...
RIP McConkey. for all of the haters, you obviously have no idea how much Shane did for the sport of skiing. Have you ever heard of fat rocker pow skis, we have Shane to thank for those, so shut up if you know nothing. check out how his legacy is being carried on by his foundation.
Well lots of people keep ashes, but usually in Urns, not plastic bags
Can't wait to see you in Oslo in november
What'd you do last saturday...Bed Bath and Beyond...Home Depot? Cause it was fun.
Shane would be bummed if it just sat at your home.
who else thought at first he'll land on the snowmobile ?
Thanks GoPro rules!
He almost died right here.
*LOL*
And the winner of the Darwin Month of September Award goes to..... the asshole who f*cked up a completely good snowmobile.
*Goodnight, old friend!*
I honestly think it was an idiotic thing to do. Shane died jumping of a cliff, disposing/destryoing something of his in that way is just disrepectful towards shane!
but the ashes where in a zip block?
rip bro you were so bad ass

But why not an urn?
