Really pleased for you that this proved to be a big one, no doubt over the year it pans out because of all the junk you have to dump, the donations to thrift store and a hell of a lot of dust. But we don't get to see that. We know its not all plain sailing and theres an awful lot of hard work in the background. Great vid as ever.
Was good to hear you had a sarah of coventry piece.i live in Coventry uk and in the late 70s early 80s it was very popular here .it was sold at parties in the home ,I was only a kid but remember my mum having a few of the parties and still have some of the pieces she purchased. Keep up the good work Julie .
Good job. Great way to get fast cash. I imagine he isn't scraping a lot of that jewelry. He'll sell it. So, you'll both do well. What a great storage unit for you. Congrats!
A lot of people are saying you got done over by this dodgy dealer. All dealers are usually making profit as it’s a business not a hobby. As long as you are happy with what you got in total, knowing how much you paid the work you put in etc etc. Everyone is happy 😂😂 you having big profit and him knowing he got a good deal too keeps food on his table.. Anyway enjoying your channel I’ve only just joined. I like a bit of eye candy... 😍
You should have had a live stream as there are many here that could have given you valuable info on what to ask the "pawn broker/jeweler " including myself. No where I seen a magnet or even mention of one - recheck the other pieces of gold that you have incl all the costume - if it sticks to its not gold - if it does go to a different pawn broker to get a test or test yourself. There are lots of gold that is NOT MARKED, anyone saying differently doesnt know a lot about jewelry. A good practise is to sort the marked gold yourself into 10K 14K 18K bags and weigh it up yourself, go online and see what each can sell for then go see a jeweler or pawn broker - have an idea what to expect. A pile of GF jewelry sells well on ebay. All kinds of costume jewelry sells too. Most sterling jewelry sells for a higher amount as jewelry than the low cost of silver today. I would have gotten his estimate of what he would have paid then ask someone else. Most dont like you doing this BUT its yours to do with what you want Not Them! Not all Pawn Brokers pay the same, Great for your first great locker though! Hope you find more Better Than This One!! :-) Larry
At best he could have got like 200-300 usd more from someone else, but man it took like 1 hour or so to go all those through, then the other guy would have gone them through also another 1 hour + the time spent on moving from place to place. I think 80 % of melt value is fair for scrap gold. Chances are going to different places is just waste of his time.
@@veriappelsiini Especially when the dealer had to spend all that time testing various pieces and the seller was fiddling with the piles while the dealer was sorting them.
"For his safety and mine" lmao. If it was for safety, he wouldn't let you to record at all. He wanted to pay way less than what it is worth, that's why.
80% of spot is about what I would expect for a small lot from an unknown gold/coin dealer, but I would try to get more. But with my long established relationship with my coin dealer, I get 88% for a small amount of gold and 90% for over an ounce jewelry weight. I also get 90% for sterling on lots of 20 ounces or more. His refiner pays him 95% for large lots and he sends in 50 ounces or more at a time - often several hundred ounces.
Been waiting for this! Happy for you! There were a few pieces that I would love to have, dont really care if its gold or not, just pretty!! Glad I got to see this!
The way you kept putting more up there before he was ready for it and how you kept moving things around was aggravating the guy but he kept his cool. Many would have told you to STOP but some would have just pushed it all into a pile and told you to leave. Its best to put it all out in a pile and let him sort it as he goes.
I really like the way you stay down too earth and take your time with other jeams. Now you need sell the jade in Japan. Look it up on the web. Good Luck
Sewing patterns are expensive today, if there are vintage patterns there may be someone interested in buying. Patterns the last time I shop could run here in the United States close to $8.00 to $10.00. The key is having all the pieces that go with the pattern, even better if not cut. You have a lot of sewing thread and a spool of thread is also expensive. But as a senior I am comparing what I used to pay over 40 years ago. I hate the thought of paying the prices today when I run out. I am certain other sewers out there agree.
that guy is really knowledgeable , i see he makes jewelry not just buys gold , my family are smiths too, for many centuries we are part Jewish , part Romany both from iran both sides were smiths , jewelers , my grand father made his glasses frame himself , thats my fathers side my mothers side were mixed race too, i have some royalty, some native american , and a good bit of celt
80% is not bad on refining gold. Unless people are willing to have a paper trail, anti money laundering policies, and a brick/mortar store with spot forever changing, and driving it to Dallas, 80% of melt isn’t bad. Cameos are dead in Oklahoma, and Texas and I could never sell them. It’s always good to see what people cherish across the pond.
Hi Jason was reading your comments and I would go crazy some people were plane happy for you , some you could never please they seem to think they know every thing. Boy no matter what you did it wouldn't be right . Loved just seeing him check it was great as long as you and wife are happy that's all that matter. Just be happy life is short.
I Hate people who take advantage of others that are just out trying to make a living, once he knew that $600: is all you paid. He Starts to try talking down to you and your dad.
That’s awesome!!! Thanks for sharing I love to see how much was actually made on the gol and silver hopefully one day I we get lucky LOL. Keep up the awesome videos.
Interesting video. What did he give you for that approx.1/4 carat(weight? ) diamond (and weren't there a couple other smaller diamonds in a couple of those rings?), and what about the two antique cameos he put to the side in his 'keep' pile? What about the 925 silver pieces? Why only 80% of spot on the gold? 85% would have been nice! Did he show you/or had you looked up, what gold was trading for that day (what spot actually was) or did you just take his word for it? How did he assess/value the lower grade gold (10k etc.) Lots of questions. Always worry that the 'shylock' has his thumb on the scale if you know what I mean. Best of luck in all your endeavors.
The various karat weights are evaluated as pure gold and the weights added. For example, if you have 2 T ounces of 14K, 1 ounce of 10 K and 0.5 ounces of 12 K, the calculations would go as follows: 2 x 14 + 24 = 1.1667 Toz 1 x 10 * 24 = 0.417 Toz 0.5 x 12 + 24 = 0.250 Toz So, adding the three, you have 2.334 Toz of gold content If spot is $1600/Toz and the dealer is paying 85%, then the calculation is : 2.334 x $1600 x 0.85 = $3174.24
I knew this was gonna be good when the opening shot was a jeweler!! If ivory made before 1947, legal to sell. That cameo looks old. Just sell as vintage. By the by, Jason, your BUNK pile is better than most women’s jewelry pile! We buy, sell and trade this every day. You better start learning the words to the song, “ if I were a rich man” from Fiddler on the Roof. 🤣
Where is the pinkish oval piece? It was very old. You need to get a lot of what you thought was junk appraised too as I noticed you by passing some very good collectables
looks to me about 7.5 oz of 14k, gold at 1300.00 an oz = 5700.00, looks about 2.5 oz 10k, not including the diamonds in the rings 1350.00, for grand total in gold 7000.00 with out the diamond value, if you didn't at least get that amount you got robbed by slick SAL.
5000 is great for what you paid for the unit in future gold sales you can get a little bit over 90% when selling that amount of gold. I get between 90 and 93%
Not even possible. If $5500 was 80%, then the maximum possible the buyer could get is $1375 - and the refiner would have to cover all shipping costs and pay the buyer 100% of spot.
Watching this made me uncomfortable. Just by looking from a distance at some of the pieces I knew they where collectable, antiques even. Listen to papa next time please.. sell it separate.. and test you own gold diamonds ext
Great job.. lot of sorting through but you did a good job.. did you find the guns. Other than that great job..ypu made good money..👍✌️ good luck in your next fine hope it's good..👍✌️
Costume jewelry can be hard to sell on eBay now. The Posh sellers are letting grandma’s Weiss earrings go for nothing. Too competitive and can’t pay mortgage on $10 sale, not enough time in the day. Box up all your costume stuff and sell it in big mystery box lots. Separate marked and unmarked for some lots or mix them up. Small resellers will buy those boxes, and everyone loves a treasure hunt.
The Jade if he said is real Jade(I can't examine it close up so I'm counting on what he said),so by the look of it's colour, is imperial Jade, I hope u know what it is. The broker i think he deals with gold only.
I was hanging on the edge of my seat! I hope you kept your cameos and didn't sell those nice pieces of sterling. That sterling bracelet was amazing!! I'd be interested in buying the costume pieces you have. At least do a video to show us?! Please? Money to be made there for sure, especially seeing her taste for the real thing! Kenneth J. Lane piece is probably worth a little bit by itself. Congratulations! Great find!
Hi Jason, Do you have a link to your ebay store? Are you wanting to sell the Amber necklaces? If so please let me know, maybe we can come to a fair deal for both of us. Thank you for your time.
Congrats and please give the guy a call and tell him leprechaun. I bet it's still driving him crazy. I screamed it at him a few times but I'm in Marietta Ok and he couldn't hear me in Oklahoma city lol.
Probably a mistake scrapping that gold. Sure, scrap the plain pieces but you had some very very nice antique pieces. You probably shorted yourself by several thousand by just scrapping everything. Jewelry can be a slow mover if it's ordinary, if its antique or desirable it will sell quick at significantly higher value than scrap. I don't know if you scrapped the sterling and amber pendant but that alone is probably $300+ retail, by retail I mean ebay pricing (scrap probably $25).
Because a locker like that is so incredibly rare you need to maximize your profits off it. Here are a few suggestions: things you'll need (if you don't have them already) a good magnifying glass, digital gram scale ($10), Gold testing acid kit ($10). --- With a lot of gold like that you should take a few hours researching the nicer pieces, you can do it with ebay sold items. Granted to find the exact piece will probably be impossible, but find similar pieces and see what they sell for. Weigh the piece so you know what the scrap value is, there are several scrap calculators on google. Determine the retail selling price (estimate) and compare it to the scrap value, if the two numbers are relatively close than scrap the piece it's quicker and easier. For example, the 10k opal cluster ring probably scrapped out at $50.00 --- you could probably get $150 - $200 online for it. Whereas a plain chain would probably only retail at scrap or 10% over, so that's something to scrap. Gold is money in the bank, so trying to retail the better pieces doesn't hurt you because if something comes up and you need the cash then you can scrap it. The key is for you to make the money, not the pawn broker.
FANTASTIC!!!! We were amazed right from the moment you opened this unit and it just kept getting better!! Sincere congrats!!!!
I loved the Amber and Silver necklace.
Go to Amazon buy $5 scale and $8 gold test kit, be informed of what you have.
Love the amber necklace
Nice haul. Great video.
Well done. I am a jeweler and I was making a list as you were going along at the unit.
Big smiles for you!

Thank you Frank for your kind words, and your obvious understanding for what goes into doing this!
This had me captivated through the whole Video! Good job Jason! This is great!
You did GREAT !!!!!!!! Very happy for you. Once in a lifetime find..
My son laughed at me yelling LEPRECHAUNS! lol
Well I’m going with Elf like the old man said 😁
That was great fun. You have a lovely family, they were helpful to you by being there. Lucky you !
Love the old man!!!! Make T-shirts with his face on them, and make a fortune!!!!
Usually when they dont say don't film money part ..its because they know people are gonna say he low balled you
Usually it is because they expect some haggling over percentage - where sometimes the buyer just packs up and goes elsewhere.
I am so happy for you. will help the family.

way to go. hope the good luck stays with you.nice to see papa again.

THANK YOU !!!
It was bothering the Beejesus out of me !
Was irritating watching him put more and more up there STOP already

Ok I take my comment back, good job bro, that's a good lick.
What are you looking to get for that silver and Amber necklace?
Jade braclets were purchased and given as gifts for weddings or a special occasion s and could be very pricey!!
Very nice!
Where is the pinkish oval piece? It was very old. You need to get a lot of what you thought was junk appraised too as I noticed you by passing some very good collectables
He’s drooling, he wants it ALL
WOW GREAT FIND MAN BUT WHO COLLECTS ALL THIS SOLID GOLD AMAZING?? COOL LOT
Lreslly interesting. Sand funny too. I bet Papa has his own fan base doesn’t he?

Costume jewelry will sell on eBay and Posh
Very happy for you. Great idea.....Cameos are usually not ivory, check with another jeweler.
Your lesser pieces are unique and beautiful...they will bring good money on EBay, Poshmark, etc. costume is very valuable also
Hell ya bro that is awesome! PS, we need more of PaPa!! I would love to sit down with him and have lunch, I bet he has some amazing stories
So Vincent Pastore became a gold dealer after the Sopranos. Great Video!
Why would you keep moving what he has identified and sorted? Was this to confuse him, hoping he makes a mistake?
Did anyone else see the jeweler push off the gold cross and then try push books towards it to move it off
Nice find. I would have went for the quick cash too.
5000 is great for what you paid for the unit in future gold sales you can get a little bit over 90% when selling that amount of gold. I get between 90 and 93%
I'd say you made your money back! Lol! Awesome!
5k+ doll hairs? I'd call that a win haha. Great video. Loved how your dad held back his smile after knowing he pulled a funny on you.
That is so awesome!! Congrats on a great find!!
Another great video.
That pawn broker just made at least 15k if not more
Not even possible. If $5500 was 80%, then the maximum possible the buyer could get is $1375 - and the refiner would have to cover all shipping costs and pay the buyer 100% of spot.

Some of the items that you don't feel like you could sell have you ever kept some of the nicer pieces for like your wife or your mother Etc
