    I would love to join the peace corps. My biggest fear is being sexually assaulted but also my reaction to the assault. For me, I'm a fighter and I know for damn sure if anyone touches me in the wrong way all bets are off. I have always been protective of myself ever since I was assaulted as a child. I hate that even when women especially women of color are painted out as being aggressive for taking up for themselves( or in my case viewed as the angry black women)

    Of note this happens not only with host country nationals but also due to fellow American men, whether peace corps volunteers themselves or other expats. This needs to be highlighted as well so everyone gets the full picture.

Probably many are not nor have a family or heart etc so not care or sed how horrible this is or if it affected one of their sons or daughters if they have or niece/ nephew, etc. I am sure glad did not ever go to that.

    So they aren't actually talking about "rape", but being groped on the bus ( I imagine not easy to maneuver around her on a crowded bus). We need to stand against gender aparteid in the nations of the ayatollahs. In the West so many celebrities have been cancelled for very minor things 1/2 century after the fact. . Would they prefer to have gone to Iran?

    Sometimes, if a woman claims she was sexually assaulted it doesn't mean it is true. Sometimes women use the sexual assault claim in order to get rid of their colleagues that don't like. It's an unfortunate and very evil world.

      Not today, no you don’t. You will NOT prove your made up rule with the exceptions. I was a sex crimes prosecutor for over a decade and am a judge, with a combined 21 years in practice. I’ve investigated over 2,000 sexual assaults. What you allege accounts for maybe, and I’m being generous here, maybe one half of 1% of all cases. So no, you will not silence the voices of sexual assault victims with this dog whistle. Nope, not on my watch. I just wanted you to know why your comment is disappearing in hopes you learn something but more likely that you just keep your sexist ignorance to yourself in the future. If you have nothing useful or supportive to offer in this context, have a nice cup of shut the hell up and move on to the next video. Your comments aren’t welcome. They’re demeaning, demonstrably false as proven by DoJ data compiled over 20 years, including in the last 3 and dangerous because they silence victims by your loud mouthed ignorance. Resist the urge to share your misogynist opinions with a large group of likely sexual assault survivors.

      So you’re more concerned about the statistically rare occurrence of false allegations than what you (maybe) watched in this video that 1 in 4 women have experienced?? Just because you’ve heard something a lot doesn’t mean it’s common. Mr Logic please consider evidence based information.

    • @ubiased23
      @ubiased23 3 года назад +2

      @@haley203 you are denying the fact that some women like to use the sexual assault claim for their own gain? I have seen it happen and that person was still let go because a complaint was made during the probationary period. Although the complaint was made and investigated. The person who was accused of sexual assault was telling the truth and he did not commit such an act. However, he was still let go due to the timing of the complaint was made during the probationary period. Shame on you for not acknowledging that.

    Unfortunately, part of the risk of committing to serve in a developing country without understanding its language or culture is being exposed to the corruption, crime, and dangers that are rampant in that country. Peace Corps does what it can to insulate those risks and keep them to a minimum, but in many developing countries, women still experience discriminations and continue to be victims of sexual assault that's been "normalized" by the culture of their site location. How is Peace Corps supposed to tackle a culture of sexual assault that is omnipresent throughout a countries society? I don't think that a foreign organization can. They can only warn their volunteers of its presence and keep their volunteers out of risky situations however possible. This is a travesty and so disheartening, but its unfortunately one of many risk of Peace Corps service that should be made more clear to incoming volunteers. Your safety in Peace Corps is NOT Guaranteed.

    • @niadamany1800
      @niadamany1800 3 года назад +14

      I can understand your sentiment in general, but these women are not only talking about just being exposed to sexual violence abroad. They are saying that the Peace Corps organization had a responsibility to protect volunteers from predatory people or environments. If you are run an organization and someone tells you that another colleague was inappropriate with women, why would you refer more women to that colleague? As volunteers, we get to tell staff what is important to us regarding our placements (ie safety). If someone expressed concern about their safety, why did they put them in an area known for sexual violence? There ARE things the organization can do to mitigate these risks, just as women do everyday.

    • @SpaceOutlaw_
      @SpaceOutlaw_ 2 года назад +6

      Did we not just watch the same video??? Of course these women know the extent of how far the peace corp can protect them in another country. But if these incidents are reported to the peace corp that were committed by people associated with them. If somebody reported an assault why would you send another volunteer to the same assaulter??? After the first time they could’ve provided a different doc to that women or oust hosts that sexually assault their volunteers.

  • @thegreatergood8081
    @thegreatergood8081 Год назад

    I'm sorry these women went through such terrible ordeals. Short of assigning male security to accompany them at all times, what can the Peace Corps do to control the retrograde behavior of men in the third world countries they're sending these women to?
    There's a lot of factors. If you're doing Peace Corps work in a remote village and some guy molests you, the locals might side with that guy over you. It's not your culture.
    Also, the lady obviously had to go with the anti-white male sentiment that's so popular these days, but it is ironic since it is not white men who are abusing these workers 🤔
