- Jeff Stone gives us an in-depth look and an overview of the Aixam 500, a quadricycle which is perfect for those who love motorbikes and only hold a motorbike licence. The Aixam 500 is not considered a car, but more of a bike with features such as it's weight of under 400 kilo's.

I had one back in 2000 2003 from new. it was great i loved it, yes it was noisy and the slowest thing on the road but so much fun. plastic body on a aluminium frame. 2 cylinders 500cc diesel kabota engine. sounds like a cement mixer.
Mr Polite Polite--- That diesel engine is an absolute deal-killer- rough, hard-starting, noisy as hell... Doesn't any proprietary engine manufacturer offer a decent little gasoline engine? I'd be very willing to trade off some of the 85-mpg fuel economy for an engine that doesn't penalize me for trying to be 'efficient'. I'm sure their sales figures would improve very significantly if they were smoother and quieter, not to mention having a much wider and more useful power band. Diesels are extremely efficient, but only within a narrow power band. That's fine for steady continuous speeds, such as highway driving and that's why long-haul trucks are all diesel-powered, but for stop-and-go city/suburban driving you really should have something with a broader power band. That's where the gasoline engine is superior.
where can u go to buy one of these or what websites can you go on to look at these.
When thinking about it, quadricycles would be an interesting proposition if they had easier availability of parts (along with mechanics who know how to repair and maintain them) as well as featuring petrol / diesel engines with virtually double the power (40-55 hp petrol / 25-40 hp diesel) somewhat akin to the 550cc-era Kei Cars yet (for UK roads) electronically limited to 70 mph.
Granted, such vehicles would no longer be allowed for 16 years olds without a license yet would be worth considering for those who either have a motorcycle license or believe that city cars in recent years have put on weight and grown too big for their needs.

I wish we could get something like this in the US.
However here 4 wheels = car.
That means airbags, tire pressure sensors,pollution control,crash testing and all sorts of other things that would kill this.
A few years ago when gas got up to $4/gallon, 3 wheelers kind of like this started showing up. They looked like a tiny minivan but had one wheel in the front. Those were considered motorcycles and did not have to deal with nearly as much BS as a car would. However they were made in China and the only dealer around closed. Good luck getting parts.
Need a little bit help with my aixam how do you get to the internal door handle as my one snapped looks like the whole door is molded need to change the door handle cheers John

Hi im wondering if you can help me, these cars are being advertised everywhere that a 16 year old can drive one and any person with a provisional driving license can do so too, iv looked into it a bit more and they say a AM category is needed, you get this from the CBT i do believe and since the end of 2013 they changed it so cbt users can use light quadricycles can you help me at all with this please ? most people say these are fine to drive with provisional but will i need L plates on the car or what ?

@@mattlawton4715 Only is you passed prior 2013. Quad bikes over 28 MPH now require a Car licence. It's a shame As i would have loved to drive a Reliant kitten.

Eeeehhh varför? Dom är osäkra plastbilar. Sen tycker jag och antagligen många andra att dom är fula som fan men kan förstå om man inte är motorintreserad och bara vill ta sig från a till b men om man är inreserad är epa mycket bättre då man sitter i en säker riktig bil som desutom är snyggare

Nope, in lithuania you just need an AM license, which is for 49cc scooters and for these death capsules.

This is the worst idea ever. Surely your just going to get all the people who aren't allowed to drive using them? I.E people who have been banned, lack the skills to pass the test, or have some medical condition which normally prevents them from driving...
BlatentlyFakeName it requires a motorcycle license. Believe it or not there are some people who just don't want to deal with getting a full drivers license
chubber221- What an utterly stupid law. What difference does it make WHAT you're driving? You still have to know the rules of the road and you still have to have the presence of mind to avoid trouble, ESPECIALLY if you're on a motorcycle, and yet it's easier to get a motorcycle license than a car license? That's nuts! It'd be sensible, also, to get rid of the silly 'quadracycle' classification for what everyone knows is a car. A car is a car, no matter how large or how small. And imposing limits on power output as well as imposing size regulations is simply madness. It stifles innovation and creativity.
Nope, it's one of the best ideas ever. I only have a license for motorbikes. I don't need a car with hundrets of mph. It's also to expensive. I need a motorbike i can take my dog with me and which protects me from snow and rain. And i don't know if you understand it, but also with a motorbike license you are not allowed to drive on drugs?! You have the same rules and consequences by the law as with a car. So what are you talking about?!
You need to pass your motorcycle test to drive it, which covers all rule of the road full car drivers require...
Jessica Jones--- Then what's the point? If that one license covers all of the rules of the road, then why have separate licenses?
