Man you are too cool! I'm a pretty aspiring amateur experimental electronic musician living in a digital world, I love learning about the maths and physics behind sounds. Making music is so therapeutic, nothing beats tweaking a synth for 4 hours straight searching for that perfect sound! Thanks for taking the time to make this awesome video, parting your knowledge to the world is an amazingly selfless thing to do so thanks for spending the time showing us a fraction of your amazing world!
Wow, that was one of the most positive and entertaining videos I’ve ever seen. A lot of videos tend to be very mean and entertaining or positive but don’t hold your attention, but this video managed to keep me interested and happy the whole time. His enthusiasm and joy really made my day better. Thank you for that!
i love this video. Ring mod and Moog ladder filters are two of my absolute favorite sounds. I'm going to get Warm Audio RingerBringer since it is so affordable compared to a used Moog ring mod.
Very thoughtful presentation. Not only did I learn what I wanted but learned something I want to go out and try. Thanks for taking the time to do the video.
This old gentleman is by far one of the most enthusiastic and happy people I have ever seen! Just about everything he did made me chuckle or laugh outright. HEHEHE Oh btw, i'm 65 yo myself, and I really wish I had even just half of his energy. EDIT: Your name is Kjartan? That's definitely a Nordic name! Greetings from Denmark.
Great! You kept me company. I have the MF102 and want to use it in a musical way (with guitar mainly), rather that it sounding like a sci-fi apocalypse. You are a great character and have lot of passion. Thanks!
Your enthusiasm is infectious, what a great video! Thank you for sharing. I found a MF-102 at a bargain price earlier, can't wait until next week now. Happy new year!
Amazing videos. I used to play a little guitar but never progressed as much as I wanted. Now I find myself very passionate of synthesizers (for two years or so already) and find channels such as yours very instructive. Thanks a lot. Cheers!
watched it all, wonderful video! ive been watching synth videos all night and this is the best one. love the in depth explanation of what is actually happening with the sound of the synth. exactly what i was looking for, thank you
Thanks for giving me a newfound respect for the humble ringmod and being super entertaining at that! Your old Twingmod is a beast btw. Wonder what you thought of it the first time you plugged it in and set it loose..
I just came across this channel three minutes ago, I haven’t even gotten into the video. I already am overjoyed and know I’m in for a treat, and now looking quickly at the comments I feel like I came across a treasure.
You, Sir, are my kind of geek! I don't know what I enjoyed more - your ring modulator or the glimpse of my own (not too distant!) future... Keep it up forever! :) x
You just inspired me to roll up my sleeves and build a ring mod! I’ve had the MF-102 for years, but I love the complexity and tone coming out of your Twing-Mod!! Cheers!
I've been watching modulator videos quite much as of late and I really have to give it to you: this is by far one of the nicest! Really good vibes, great charisma and every joke lands. Cheers from Finland, keep being awesome!
Thanks - and that's by far one of the nicest posts I've had! I've always loved hearing about Finland. Do you still have mobile phone throwing championships? And is the band LORDI still playing?
Good questions! The mobile throwing championship is on a break now, they're having some troubles with the organizing the event. I believe the latest contest was in 2013, but I might be wrong there. But we always have the wife-carrying contest in its absence, so I think well be just fine! Lordi is still active, they released an album last year called Monstereophonic - Theaterror vs. Demonarchy but I believe they've lost some of their relevance over the years. I think they are still getting crowds but they aren't that well known anymore.
Thanks for the answers! I love the Finnish sense of humour - and I was really pleased when a couple of my books were translated into Finnish about 10 years ago!
Oh you've written books? This really peaks my interest, I'm currently studying to become a librarian so this is right up my alley! Could you provide me with name/ISBN, I'd really like to check them out!
So much doubt hidden in your words, but you process such knowledge. Such a wealth of ideas and experience. It like you think people aren’t gunna like it as much as you? That’s bologna! There’s so much packed into a 20 minute video that wouldn’t take years for someone to work out in there spare time. Challenge people with your enthusiasm! It’s contagious! Who gives a fuck if there’s math involved wth it! It’s a fundamental property with what’s happening in the machine. Anybody serious about it, and this sharing that same feeling as you, will keep going with you. The video isn’t for anybody else but “those people”; from one of “those people”. Very refreshing to see a RUclips tutorial with SUBSTANCE. Everybody could learn a lot about not only this ring modulator but also themselves watching this mans enthusiasm for Music!
Wow, i have never seen your channel before, but its great! Great humor, explanations, technical skill and musical skill! Nice sounds, powerpoint, demonstrations, and a nice energy
I don't even know how to play piano but I love synthesizers and your videos are just so entertaining to watch! Hoping for more videos like this one or like the one featuring Prodigy :)
Your videos are brilliant, and you have some fine vintage gear there that I may never be able to get my hands on :) Keep up with the great attitude, your love for the weird sounds is awesomely beautiful
The only video on youtube that explains the Ring Modulator in a way that not only I could understand but with good musical examples on how to use it Thanks a lot mate Cheers from Brazil
I think you got more than 10 people in the world that watched this video till the very end. Yes, I'm number 11! Nice lesson on ring modulation, very detailed and informative.
I fell in love with ring modulation after this video, fast forward to last year, I was able to afford a second hand moog mf ring mod, so far it’s my not so secret ace, superbly beautiful and oddly melodic machine. I laughed as it’s true, it’s tricky to replicate a ring sound twice hahah, oh well…more time to have fun with it Thank u for this awesome video:)
Hello Mr Poskitt, I really really enjoyed the video but my mind was actually blown when I saw your name on the screen and I recognized your name from the books I have read when I was little. I loved those books to the bits and maybe they are the reason I am currently watching this video about ring modulators. It's a small world. Love you and what you do!
Now I finally understand Ring Modulators! Thank you! I one time saw a video were they used a Ring Modulator and an Expression Pedal, and that seems like fun. 😁
I watched it all the way to the end !!! Gr8 video !!! I enjoyed learning more about the ring modulator and your video was very entertaining and informative !! Cheers !!
this was really lovely! I want to get one of those sorts of things. I know you best as the person whose books really got me into maths and do everything a year early and I was very appreciative, and when I saw this, it was just amazing, I've done a little of it before but have just noticed how the high to low sweep must be how they did the beginning of the Doctor Who themes! Amazing stuff!
This was lots of fun. The enthusiasm really is infectious and quite rare now. Seems like we live in an age were folks see software doing weird things and just aren't impressed or entertained by the noises these machines make anymore. I think its safe to say it was more than 10 people who watched to the end. (if not, I'm happy I was one of the 10 :) )
Rally great video! you are the best :). Very informative and entertaining. This helped me to know how to use the ring modulation on moog modular. i watched till the end also :). all the best!
I think I found my new favorite channel, you're like LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER's mad grandpa.
Literally the only synth video I can stand to watch all the way through haha
Watched till the very end. I don't usually write comments but I really, really do love you and your videos. Take care.
:-)
Fantastic ! Really appreciating how you manage to communicate your good mood and huge passion, we need more like you

Dear Kjartan, I was looking to understand better the Ring Modulator Effekt, and I found not just that, but a great moment! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This channel is incredible, so happy I found it!

Thanks for the nice message - and it's great how you describe yourself as pretty. Wish I could say the same about myself!
Thank you for the lovely walkthrough. Your positive attitude is another reason why I went trough the whole video.
in fact the only reason..
Love the energy and the entusiasm, you re an example to be followed.
I like the mad professor vibe
Wow, that was one of the most positive and entertaining videos I’ve ever seen. Cracking video. Love the enthusiasm!
I watched it to the very end and it was TOTALLY BRILLIANT... thank you very much.
the best vid I've seen so far on youtube explaining ring modulator!
Absolute joy to watch, learn and listen. I love messing with the moog ring modulator, essential in experimental sound design.
This old gentleman is by far one of the most enthusiastic and happy people I have ever seen! Just about everything he did made me chuckle or laugh outright. HEHEHE
Oh btw, i'm 65 yo myself, and I really wish I had even just half of his energy.
EDIT: Your name is Kjartan? That's definitely a Nordic name! Greetings from Denmark.
I want to go back in time, and you are my science teacher. So enthusiastic.
I love this man so much, and this is one of my favorite videos for talking about how electrical circuits are used to manipulate sound
"you put a sound in there, it comes out damaged, oh yes! hahahaha"
perfect
Great! You kept me company. I have the MF102 and want to use it in a musical way (with guitar mainly), rather that it sounding like a sci-fi apocalypse. You are a great character and have lot of passion. Thanks!
This guy kicks ass. Gotta watch more vids. Always cool to see older people being awesome.
Your enthusiasm is infectious, what a great video! Thank you for sharing. I found a MF-102 at a bargain price earlier, can't wait until next week now. Happy new year!
Lucky you! Have fun 😊
Great, what you have there is the mother of all ring modulators......very enjoyable video!
You sir, are an inspiration! Please keep making videos.

Excellent! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience.
Really cool. I have used the ring modulator in DAWs, but had never played around with an analog one. Really enjoyed this fun video
You, Sir, are my kind of geek! I don't know what I enjoyed more - your ring modulator or the glimpse of my own (not too distant!) future... Keep it up forever! :) x
You sir are an absolute genius. I have a PhD (in history, not electronics) and have always been confused about this. Now I'm not. Keep it up!
Glad it helped - thanks for posting!
What a great video! Learned a bunch and enjoyed it through and through. Cheers
Watched it right to the end! Always great to encounter another ring modulator nut ;) great sounds man!
You just inspired me to roll up my sleeves and build a ring mod! I’ve had the MF-102 for years, but I love the complexity and tone coming out of your Twing-Mod!! Cheers!
Good luck! Half of the odd noises coming off mine are due to bad soldering!
I've been watching modulator videos quite much as of late and I really have to give it to you: this is by far one of the nicest! Really good vibes, great charisma and every joke lands. Cheers from Finland, keep being awesome!

That's what I hoped 35 years ago - good luck!

Amazing amazing video. I'm getting into digital sound engineering and putting a ring modulator into a VST. This taught me a lot. Keep it up.
There is so much cool stuff and great advise in this Video.
I fell in love with ring modulation after this video, fast forward to last year, I was able to afford a second hand moog mf ring mod, so far it’s my not so secret ace, superbly beautiful and oddly melodic machine.
I laughed as it’s true, it’s tricky to replicate a ring sound twice hahah, oh well…more time to have fun with it

Oddly melodic! Wish I'd said that on the vid! Have fun 😊
Love it. Major Hawkwind vibes. Very informative.
Hello Mr Poskitt, I really really enjoyed the video but my mind was actually blown when I saw your name on the screen and I recognized your name from the books I have read when I was little. Thoroughly enjoyable video! Thanks for this great and informative demo. Loving ring mods in Canada. ;-)
Very nice video ! shows pretty well the spirit of stalking into the sound parameters. Bircolage !
My god.. I would spend a week continuously messing with the handmade one. Thank you for sharing, Kjartan.
Yeah I'm gonna make my own now :D
this was really lovely! I want to get one of those sorts of things. Glad you liked it - and even gladder the MM books helped!
You are one of the coolest dudes I've ever seen. Thanks for the video!

Most of todays videos are infomercials while this one is passion and joy to share and the knowledge behind stuff. Could be one explanation.
I watched every second at least once. 😁
Alexis Harper pretty normal tbh
What an incredibly useful and informative video! Thank you!
If it helped you in anyway, I'm very pleased!
Great vid. Always been a fan of your work mate. Thanks for this - should have known you'd be an analogue synth aficionado!
Rally great video! you are the best :). Very informative and entertaining. This helped me to know how to use the ring modulation on moog modular. i watched till the end also :). all the best!
What I find very interesting is that EDM and IDM producers would try to find ways to tune one of the sounds and use it musically , love it!
Just stumbled on this video with some friends, you rock man!
I love his enthusiasm !
Really interesting, you're a good presenter.
Thanks for the video! Finally, a demo of a twingmod \m/
Very much enjoyed it - now, I need one :D
Greetz from Germany,

I hope, in 20 years time, I can reach this level of Trippy Grandpa. I already got the gear and the attic.
Find one of the hits of acid stored in the freezer and your off. Lmao
Great video. Really enjoyed the whole thing. Thanks!
A great demonstration of what ring mods can do!
Have to rate it an 11, (nearest prime number over 10).
Damn I love these videos. Who knows where you are going? The title means -we started with this idea- only. And that is a rare and beautiful bird.
I want this guy in my band
That's a really nice thing to say, but I don't think you do. I never stop talking long enough!
What a blast! I learned a bit about ring modulators and had a laugh or two. Very cool!
What a great video! Coolest grandpa ever.
This is my favorite video on youtube thank you SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And that's probably my favourite comment!
Nice vids, nice gears! and sounds never the same. keep going! thanks
