Seeing that Origami King spirit event get announced while this video was stuck in development hell was...something. While I don't think it _ends_ Paper Mario's chances for Ultimate, it definitely doesn't help. But he's a big enough recurring character that his chances don't end with Ultimate! You know, considering the final smashes of characters like Min Min, the final smash here may very well be the perfect way to incorporate the partners in a moveset.
The spiky pixel called Barry from Super Paper Mario would serve as a better neutral aerial than the spinning hammer, it would have less startup lag and be more functional for combos.
Creative stuff, Delzethin! I commend you for trying to create a moveset that doesn't heavily rely on his partners, as I always thought that his special moves would've done things like use Parakarry to recover or throw Bobbery to attack or something. I think that this is a creative take! Very nicely done! =)
I appreciate the different take on the moveset. Not relying on the partners is commendable, as it's important to make sure Paper Mario himself shines through. Also, I imagine that, creatively, one would not want to prioritize one partner character over the other.
Another interesting fact is that when they announce a character, they represent the character throughout the totality of his experiences. For more instances than not (The Origami King counts because those battle partners are zone-specific) Paper Mario has worked without partners as defined by the PM64-likes than they have, though I guess the Pixls are like partners. Paper Mario is, surprisingly, a solo act most of the time.
The variety in your Paper Mario moves makes me wish regular Smash Bros. Mario had a more diverse moveset indicative of his past games (ie: tanooki tail, POW block, shell kick).
I haven't finished the video yet, but can I just say that the video production and editing have improved so much since the first Challenger Approaching? It's incredible!
This is my most wanted character for smash, and as someone who likes both the older games and the newer ones, I think this is the best moveset I've seen. Most others just only have moves from the first two.
My idea for a final smash is called: Partner Pummel He pulls out the book from Paper Jam and puts his opponent in and the partners dog pile them. So ours is pretty similar...
But of course, Music is just as important. I imagine we’d have the current paper music that exist already in tandem with: Streamer Battle ( NEW RMX), either SS Battle RMX or CS mid battle, Paper Gooper-Blooper battle, Battle with King Olly ( New RMX), Prisma Splash either original or RMX, Bowser 64 / TTYD Medley , Shadow Queen , and finally Battle Medley for 64/TTYD/SS with little nods to Super. Feel free to add on if anyone has any ideas as well.
I am glad that you referenced every paper Mario game because I found it disappointing when everyone only referenced the first 3 games and not the others because it they thought they were bad but I really like your predictions on paper Mario

There's one character I'd love to see due to the fact that his gimmick would really make him a unique fighter... but I highly doubt he'll ever get in due to lack of popularity: Knack. I could see him having multiple gimmicks, but the key one... he changes size and weight class throughout the fight, while being lighter and faster than he looks. However, his defense also changes with size, and it'd take very little to knock him down to size, being a heavy hitting hit and run focused character. I could see him becoming the largest playable character, but gameplay wise would have to shrink it, allowing him a total of five sizes. Smallest size would be on par with Pichu, and largest size... would be like Ridley standing up with his neck fully stretched. BUT, due to his hollow body nature, he'd be a weight class tier lower than he looks. Like, that largest size would only way as much as Bowser, despite it looking larger. ...but this also means that his smallest form at Pichu's size would be ridiculously light and easy to send flying. To make his size changing fair, he'd have to deal more damage to grow in size, but takes less damage than that to knock him out of it, to keep in mind his hit and run style. His sizes: pichu size, young link size, normal character size, Bowser size, and full size, each with a different appearance, all while having one final super giant size using giant relics for a Bowser like final smash. And that's just one option for gimmicks for him. He has a lot of options for his gimmicks. Buuuuut, since he's not well known, he's unlikely to come about... despite how interesting it'd be to have him as a fighter.
The most recent outing (3D Bowser paintings in the game confirming how they normally look (Same game with all versions of "Paper Peach" (Except PJ) along with WOG (Miyamoto interview confirming it's ALWAYS the same Mario in every series/game) prove he he always been and always will be just The Mario and that the thing in PJ is separate.
Really good, but there’s no Super Paper Mario throughout his entire moveset. I aim to change that Up smash: Luigi Leap. With a long startup of the box from SPM summoning Paper Luigi, and the charge being Mario help scrunch Luigi down, on release, Luigi shoots very fast very high into the sky. At full charge, Luigi launches as high as Jigglypuff does on shield break, which is to say enough to fly out of Palutena’s Temple, but with no charge hardly reaches higher than a short hop. Luigi will hit his head on any ceiling, and if he isn’t off screen by the end of the attack, the box comes to reclaim him. It can’t be used again until Luigi is off screen. Forward Smash: Bowser Breath Again using the box to summon Paper Bowser, who will then breathe fire forward. The fire hits four times as it slowly expands outwards, with the first three causing slight damage and outward knock back to combo into the final hit, whose sweet spot directly in the center of the last puff of fire matches if not outclasses a Doriyah, and sends at a nearly directly forward angle. Perhaps the sweet spot could trigger a blue screen with how powerful it is. This move is a HUGE commitment, with the slowest startup and end lag of any smash attack in the game, but landing it on ledge could easily kill as early as 10% on even heavy characters at full charge. The box only summons Bowser on release of the move, meaning this move has almost a full second of starting lag and another near second of end lag. You are also vulnerable behind you for the entire duration. This move is comparable to Falcon punch in that if it hits you’re in good standing, but if it misses, which there’s plenty of time to dodge, you’re in for quite the punish.
Great video! My only gripe is the inclusions of both the fire-flower, raccoon tail, and POW block. Not only are they both items since they're not really aspects mainly associated with Paper Mario. But otherwise, really solid. I always like appreciated your analysis's upon the Gaming communities and pushing pass the nastier sides...
Your take on Paper Mario for Smash without utilizing partners in his moves was pretty great! Considering that the recent games have kind of ditched the partner mechanic - with some exceptions, of course - I think something like this is something that Nintendo would go with, and was always curious on how it could be done. I especially love the down taunt having Goombario, Goombella, Tippi, Kersti, Huey, and Olivia making a small cameo! As for my own critiques, I think his Final Smash should just stick with the partners that tag along with Paper Mario. (the 64 cast, the TTYD cast; the Pixls, Kersti, Huey, Olivia; Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Kamek, Bowser Jr.; maybe Bobby and Professor Toad) Including nearly every possible character that ever assisted him, as well as some villains, might be overkill. (Even if it would be awesome to see, ngl) As for his throws, I think I'd just have his forward throw and back throw function like regular Mario's. (Which I'll admit is rather boring, but eh.) I'm also not too fond of the Up Special - as it sounds like he wouldn't really get much vertical height - but I'm not sure what I'd replace it with tbh. Regardless, good moveset idea!
Dude, I appreciate that SOMEONE in the Smash Moveset Building community is acknowledging the Mario and Luigi RPGs. I'd love to see a moveset based on Mario and Luigi as the duo they are in the Mario and Luigi RPGs. Maybe represent them differently by having it be Baby Mario and Baby Luigi from Partners in Time?
I saw a video about paper mario in smash. It gave a really unique gimmick for paper mario by summoning a partner with paper mario. Kinda like a second ice climber that follows you, but it’s also like a luma with limited attacks and health. Once it’s KO’d it’s gone until you use a new stock.
At a discord server I go to, one of the mods planned to ban Smash speculation talk altogether because of the toxicity it brings among everyone. And this all started over an argument on whether Paper Mario should be unique or an echo fighter, and if the spirit event deconfirmed him or not.
My views on Paper Mario have grown much more... eh, mixed as the years have gone on. But even still, I feel like this character concept does justice to all styles of Paper Mario we've seen over the years. Well done!
Man, I’ve been waiting for YEARS for someone else to bring up the Copy Block when talking about a Paper Mario moveset! This has to be my favourite Paper Mario concept I’ve seen to date, and I’ve seen more than a handful!
My take on this: It's a commendable effort to try and create a moveset that pulls from the entire series rather than one style or the other but I feel that what you've went with doesn't really speak to any sort of design concept for Paper Mario, it's a little too all over the place. The problem with this particular case is that the PM series has had so many wild shifts in its game mechanics that it basically lacks a strong identity of its own, and trying to appeal to all of it just leads to a messy moveset with an abundance of sources that have nothing to do with each other. Aside from hammers of course which makes up the bulk of this mock moveset. I think there's compelling cases to be made for designs based on one style or the other but I feel to fully capture them it would have to be one or the other. Regardless I enjoyed the vid as usual and look forward to the next one.
This is really good, i do really like the spm rivals mod’s smash/strong attacks since they reference super paper Mario’s character swaps a bit more then the suggested smash attacks
I love these ideas maybe in the future we will see him in the pass with some of these attacks, maybe near crash bandicoot. I just want these two to be in the pass.
A few changes i'd personally make I think the grab SHOULD use the Pixel, probably keep the range short however. He has no real references to it here based on the moveset. And this would be a nice nod to it For the run animation either Spike or Baby Yoshi come out. and they vanish when you stop running or do anything else, they don't have unique frame data. But the aesthetics change and it's a nice nod to both. For his Forward B, I would keep it alternating between Koops and Kooper, and make it faster animation wise. They pop out, in their shell already and Mario kicks it while on the ground, or bounces off it in the air (gaining a small amount of height). And then it boomerangs back around. Koops shell would be slightly bigger, having more knock back. And Kooper's Shell would ignight on fire causing a damage over time and still having a decent knock back. For his Up B I personally like the idea of Parakarry more. Perhaps his Up B could have 2 levels? Parakarry comes out and pulls Paper Mario up some, this portion would have no damage and leaves him somewhat open. And the second level He turns into the paper airplane, and like you said has damage at the tip. But no longer has any upward momentum. Alternatively Parakarry could pop up doing his double jump. Copy, i freaking love this idea. I do have one change i'd suggest though, each copy also effects his weight. Making him slightly harder to knock off while he has them. Even if not by much. Ultimately ending in a 25% increase in weight,, similar to his damage multiplier. I know you wanted to avoid leaning to heavily into partners, but they were such an iconic part of the first two games. And I genuinely love the rest of the kit. 'specially that copy ability. I never considered that. =3
I feel that Paper Mario would work best a reverse Doctor Mario, lighter physics and maybe a greater combo game but troubles in the killing and damage output without the power of combos
This was soooo creative, I loved it! I especially liked how you tried to incorporate every iteration of Paper Mario, that's exactly how I'd want them to design him.
I really like the down and up specials and final smash ideas, and I especially commend the lack of reliance on partners unlike most other movesets! But I don’t quite think most of the other half of this moveset feels exclusive to PM(like the side special, dtilt, and bair). So for that I kinda prefer your other PM moveset
I really like this! I am really glad that Origami King's confetti made it in, and although I would've liked for his final smash to be Olivia's giant hammer, I admit Companion Collage works much better. I would also suggest the costumes from OK's photo studio as other potential color alts. I especially like the Paper Jam ability!
Paper Mario is perfect for smash bros, and I get why people want him in smash bros, he has so many moves in his game that can be his move set, and on top of that, it would be perfect since Mario’s 35 anniversary just happened
I love this idea! I really want to see his old companions make an appearance and i think you found a good balance with them without making them the only gimmick. Although I'd love it if summoning partners was his gimmick as well.
Loved the vid. Will likely check out more of the ones that I'm aware of, fandom wise. ...stinks that I'm so behind on other videos, but this vid definitely got me interested in your other builds.
l like this character concept!, l've always felt like putting partners for all his specials was a bit too much,, you filled in all the specials with battle techniques and that makes more sense to me. Despite that, l dont know how l feel about his recovery,, brawl-gliding is nice to recover with but it doesnt really give you much vertical reach, and since he doesnt have any other moves to use for recovery it would seem to me that he has a DK-like problem recovering... Also neutralB+sideB seem like they have similar hitboxes/trajectories to neutralB+sideB of the belmonts, but hopefully the flair of paper mario negates that somewhat. All-in-all, l quite liked this video. l'd love to see what you'd come up with for Sora and Rayman since those are the other 2 characters l'd like to see the most, but l'm sure you'll get to those some day :]
Imma be honest, imagine if you could use the taunt after an attack to reference the stylish in TTYD, and it gives either more Final Smash meter, or maybe adds slightly more damage until you lose a stock. That would be sick and rewards higher skill
I thought that up B would be mario turning into a plane, but instead of gliding, a sudden gust of wind would launch him upward so you can't just use it to get a stock and run away (like what some sonic mains do)
Personally if I were to make a Paper Mario move set, especially if I were trying to appeal to both sides of the fandom I would base the moveset around the one thing everyone likes. Action commands
Interesting but I was thinking Paper Mario's Special would be Partner/Pixl Attack and the Final Smash would be a combined attack of Peach Beam and Supernova
I gotta say, after the TTYD remake came out, I think THAT version of Paper Mario works best if he got into Smash. Design-wise, at least. The layered look really adds to the animation style.
I don't need to see dislikes to know a lot of people got upset just because you used everything and not just the old stuff Love the video, though!! I'd love Paper Mario in Smash! I haven't played 64 and TYD, but Super Paper Mario is one of my favorite Mario platformers
He already did. ruclips.net/video/0nWG-toWM7g/видео.html The video has aged a little though, I wouldn't mind him redoin it like he did with Geno and Paper Mario.
I think it weird that people hate the new games think about this maybe oragomi king is a mix of every thing the adventure of all kinda combined map to look at open and adventurous a bit the card and stickers are like the iron boots for example and coins are like xp it also uses themselves as coins them selves and use the coins to buy the iron boots like unlocking new moves and the durability is like the go to uses certain attacks and the partners follow like games after thousand year but also help in combat a bit and the combat is like always being turn based but unique and the story is amazing and writing is also amazing with development of characters like Bobby he is a bit annoying but you get a bit more sympathetic later then after shogun studios he regains memory’s and it is then also it seems like he doesn’t miss his attacks as much and then the backstory and not trying to spoil it but to dumb it down or make it not clear well the bolder part is amazing just buetiful and with Olivia some amazing writing some of the best arcs and story’s I’ve seen and other characters are amazing the legion of stationary make sense in time give it time oragomi king is amazing any way you look at it
I love this concept; I'm just kind of meh about how super gets completely ignored. I mean, TTYD has more than enough attacks, and the most you see of Super is a taunt and maybe the final smash. Well, I guess you can't please everyone!
He Would Be Cool In Smash Bros Ultimate As His Content But his franchise was too late Because didn’t became a DLC Fighter Maybe that A Spirit Event does make sense to be in the roster But I’m Sorry Paper Mario but you’re content Represent in the game.
This is a lot more based around the newer games I suppose thats fine but I think the older games had more potential. Down B could be like a partners (pressing down b would use them and holding down b allows you to change them out)
Wait... if your Smash Paper Mario, with a weaponized footstool, footstools Piranha Plant, a fighter with a unique attack that only activates when footstooled while crouching, what happens? Are they both hit, resulting in a trade? Would Piranha Plant's attack win out, as a reference to the inability of Mario's to kill them in the 2D games? What would happen?

Nicely done once again! I'm loving the new coat of paint too!
A few changes i'd personally make
I think the grab SHOULD use the Pixel, probably keep the range short however. He has no real references to it here based on the moveset. And this would be a nice nod to it
For the run animation either Spike or Baby Yoshi come out. and they vanish when you stop running or do anything else, they don't have unique frame data.
Very creative moveset!
I like the idea of a fighter that has very good tools to press the advantage but has to work hard to keep it.
I feel that Paper Mario would work best a reverse Doctor Mario, lighter physics and maybe a greater combo game but troubles in the killing and damage output without the power of combos
Paper mario would be so much fun in smash
Ah, yes, because Goomba with hat is WAY more original than Toad with different clothes
It's funny to me that, after this video came out, a glide Up Special was given to another geometrically challenged character...
I love _a_er Mario but will only accept him in Smash if one of his alts mimics when Doo_liss stole his identity
Its about time some one acepts kerstis existence.
Imma be honest, imagine if you could use the taunt after an attack to reference the stylish in TTYD, and it gives either more Final Smash meter, or maybe adds slightly more damage until you lose a stock. That would be sick and rewards higher skill
I would love to see you do this for Agumon. He'd have so much potential as a fighter.
I thought that up B would be mario turning into a plane, but instead of gliding, a sudden gust of wind would launch him upward so you can't just use it to get a stock and run away (like what some sonic mains do)
Yay!! Always a good day when a Delthizen uploads.
Also happy 20th anniversary to Paper Mario!!
Paper mario has a 2d and 3d hammer in color splash so with weaker ones he uses the 2d and in stronger ones it's 3d
"I want to represent every game in the series"
Super Paper Mario: Am I a joke to you?
Personally if I were to make a Paper Mario move set, especially if I were trying to appeal to both sides of the fandom I would base the moveset around the one thing everyone likes. Action commands
This is the correct move set he would need bit from every game
I've been seeing requests in the comments. So, I don't suppose you could tackle the main character of Astral Chain and Euden from Dragalia Lost next?
Interesting but I was thinking Paper Mario's Special would be Partner/Pixl Attack and the Final Smash would be a combined attack of Peach Beam and Supernova
Ttyd is one of my favorite games ever
Hurl hammer alone makes me want to main paper Mario
I gotta say, after the TTYD remake came out, I think THAT version of Paper Mario works best if he got into Smash. Design-wise, at least. The layered look really adds to the animation style.
Can you make a moveset for telephone the Dutch angel dragon
I don't need to see dislikes to know a lot of people got upset just because you used everything and not just the old stuff
Love the video, though!! I'd love Paper Mario in Smash! I haven't played 64 and TYD, but Super Paper Mario is one of my favorite Mario platformers
Been looking forward to this!
Maybe 2 of the alts should be call backs to the original art style of Paper Mario, and one form TTYD
those are literally paper mario but with lower quality
Can you do Bandana Dee? I know he has lost some interest but can you at least show me what YOUR moveset idea if bandana Dee joined?
He already did. ruclips.net/video/0nWG-toWM7g/видео.html
The video has aged a little though, I wouldn't mind him redoin it like he did with Geno and Paper Mario.
Martoon cdj yeah, plus he did only the specials mostly.
I don't care about what happens to the paper mario franchise...
Because we have bug fables.
I played Super Paper Mario, Sticker Star, and Paper Jam. I liked those 3 games a lot. Kinda sad people don't like than. They are fun games.
This is a well done series!
I think it weird that people hate the new games think about this maybe oragomi king is a mix of every thing the adventure of all kinda combined map to look at open and adventurous a bit the card and stickers are like the iron boots for example and coins are like xp it also uses themselves as coins them selves and use the coins to buy the iron boots like unlocking new moves and the durability is like the go to uses certain attacks and the partners follow like games after thousand year but also help in combat a bit and the combat is like always being turn based but unique and the story is amazing and writing is also amazing with development of characters like Bobby he is a bit annoying but you get a bit more sympathetic later then after shogun studios he regains memory’s and it is then also it seems like he doesn’t miss his attacks as much and then the backstory and not trying to spoil it but to dumb it down or make it not clear well the bolder part is amazing just buetiful and with Olivia some amazing writing some of the best arcs and story’s I’ve seen and other characters are amazing the legion of stationary make sense in time give it time oragomi king is amazing any way you look at it
so we have young link and toon link but not classic sonic and paper mario. I see how it is
I love this, but if this final smash was used, paper Luigi would have to be really important
I would've used the trio hammer for the final smash and the origami arms for a tether grab
nah bro gave him an ultimate dlc mechanic with that copy block 💀
I LOVE THE COPY BLOCK
Kind of poorly timed given the spirit event, but it’s kind of cool to see what could’ve been.
I would actually go with the more fluid animations for Paper Mario specifically to set him apart from the flat character already in the game
Wow I'm here early, I know this episode is gonna be good!
Edit: I was correct
I love this concept; I'm just kind of meh about how super gets completely ignored. I mean, TTYD has more than enough attacks, and the most you see of Super is a taunt and maybe the final smash. Well, I guess you can't please everyone!
He Would Be Cool In Smash Bros Ultimate As His Content But his franchise was too late Because didn’t became a DLC Fighter Maybe that A Spirit Event does make sense to be in the roster But I’m Sorry Paper Mario but you’re content Represent in the game.
If paper Mario in Smash bros, he might be overpowered.
Also his skills can kick all fighters about under 5 mins.
Sorry, kinda late but good video!
14:21 Nice Whacka reference
Ifthis makes the homage for it, this will be good lfor all🤘🤘🤘🤘
I relly shouldve seen the irngsl one though.
I'd like to see a full Astral Chain moveset.
Damn this game is underrated. It's a shame it wasn't really represented in smash.
Since piranha plant's attack comes after the footstool, while paper mario's is during the footstool, paper mario's attack would win
@@seabass64 the piranha plant should win though, what with how it works in the original games.
