- This video shows how to make a tasty rasam using Tuvar dal /pigeon pealentils.It is served with rice, or can be served as a soup or appetiser too.
Ingredients
Tuvar dal/Split pigeon pea 1/4 cup
Turmeric powder a pinch
Tamarind a small lemon size
Salt to taste
Hing/asafoetida a pinch
tomato 1 ripe
Curry leaves a few
Turmeric powder a pinch
Coriander leaves a few chopped
Ghee 1 tsp
mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
Dry red chillies 2
For Rasam powder
Coriander seeds 1/4 cup
Dry red chilli 1/4 cup
Tuvar dal 1/4 cup
Black pepper 1/8 cup
Cumin seeds 1/8 cup
Turmeric powder1 Tsp

You could soak the dal for an hour and then cook it in a pan or in a rice cooker.

My measure of lemon sized tamarind always fails. Can you please tell how much is that by weight? I mean 20 gm, 30 gm etc
I will show this in my next video, meanwhile you can try using Tamarind paste(readymade) if it is more convenient. You can use about 1 tsp for 4 persons
Rasam...all time favourite and easy to prepare..best with hot rice and ghee...

It depends on how many people you want to make it for. This quantity should last you for 3-4 persons for 4 or 5 times

Very nice 👌👌👌. But, I prepare Rasam powder with horsegram and not with Tuvar dal, bcos, we have already added smashed Tuvar dal. And one more thing that my MIL always says, we should add perungayam powder only in the last, bcos, if we add first, the smell will go away.
But if we use katti perungayam, first we deep fry little bit and pour it in the water. It will dissolve and in the last, we should add that perungayam water.
