ISS Expedition 42: US EVA #30 GoPro footage
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 апр 2015
- 60 FPS GoPro footage from US Spacewalk #30.
This footage was taken by U.S. astronaut Terry Virts during two spacewalks (EVAs) on the International Space Station on February 25, 2015.
On EVA #30, Virts and fellow astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore routed a series of cables in preparation for the arrival of two International Docking Adapters later in 2015. Virts also lubricated elements at the latching end of the space station’s Canadarm2 robotic arm while Wilmore prepares the Tranquility module for the relocation of the Permanent Multipurpose Module and the arrival of the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) later this year.

rapiollymega thanks so much
rapiollymega Awesome! Thanks, man!
rapiollymega Those were some fantastic shots. ;D Thank you!
rapiollymega THANKS ! hope this could be added to the description or somewhere it won't be swallowed by other comments
rapiollymega 48:29 is that a ufo?
So chill and relaxed.....while orbiting Earth 17,000mph, in a state of constant free-fall 250 miles up....
***** It's falling... with style!
Dexter7 Thanks Buzz.
***** Going so fast that you can all slow down.
Anything in orbit of a planet is caught by its gravitational pull. As long as the object has sufficient mass/power etc to counteract those forces from pulling it into the atmosphere and to the surface, it's much more akin to floating on the surface of a pool instead of free-falling. That's why astronaut students/trainees must undergo training in the sea! To mimic zero-gravity conditions.
Gaeilgeoir
actually, free falling is exactly what it is, as free-falling is just a suborbital trajectory, free-falling feels the same as being in orbit. the thing is that when sky divers free-fall they encounter aerodynamic drag, meaning they aren't truly accelerating with gravity, and are experiencing deceleration during their free-fall. if you were to perform a skydive on say, Mercury you would feel no different than someone who is in orbit.
It would also likely be fatal :P
For those scrolling down to the comments to ask why the camera is hearing so much noise:
it isn't.
Sound is a vibration, and with an atmosphere we can hear sounds because the air gets vibrated by things, like your vocal chords. What's happening here, given there's no air, is that the microphone is picking up vibrations instead of sound waves. Every impact or scratch to the camera itself is making the plastic shake, and the microphone picks up that vibration. Since it's made to transform vibrations into sound, you hear sound.
You see the same thing happen whenever someone holding a microphone claps. Very loud thumps, even though the light clap they're doing doesn't make any noise. You can also feel the same thing happening if you put your hand up to your throat and say AAAAA to yourself at a normal volume.
The camera isn't hearing noise. It's feeling it. In space, no-one can hear you scream, but they can feel your scream if they're touching you.
Physics is neat!
***** "Sound is a vibration", "the microphone is picking up vibrations instead of sound waves". Seems a bit contradictory.
As far as i know, sound travels not only through air, but through anything, including solid objects. So i think that the vibrations of those objects, that are picked up by de microphone, are soundwaves.
***** GoPro case is sealed and it has air inside.
PGraveDigger1 Sound is a vibration in air. What the microphone is picking up is vibration in its casing. I was pretty clear about this. Quoting tiny parts of what I said and ignoring the whole is stupid. You can think that sound is *any* vibration, but you'd be wrong.
"Sound is a vibration, and with an atmosphere we can hear sounds because the air gets vibrated by things, like your vocal chords"
Your speakers work with an electromagnet surrounded by a coil of wire, with a membrane on one side. The speakers turn an electric signal into a back and forth motion in the membrane, which vibrates the air, which is what the sound is. Saying that the electromagnet moving back and forth is sound is stupid. It *produces* sound.
PGraveDigger1 Again, dishonestly quoting only parts of what I said makes you a disingenuous sack of shit.
"[...]the camera is hearing so much noise:
it isn't."
Picking up impacts on the casing isn't hearing noises. If I punch you in the face, it *makes* a noise in an atmosphere, whether it be air for us ("with an atmosphere *we* can hear sounds") or a liquid medium for whales, but the punch *is not itself* a noise. Are you done being an asshat yet?
Maybe try reading everything I said and understanding it as a whole instead of nitpicking like a fucking little troll. Fuck's sake. I'll reiterate so you get it through your empty skull: PUNCHES ARE NOT A SOUND. PUNCHES MAKE SOUND. Fuck's sake.
***** Sound is a vibration of any gas, liquid or solid. Your understanding that sound need atmosphere is flawed.
One of the coolest things about this is that when you look down, Everything that has been born, lived, died, all the wars, all of our petty conflicts and thievery, our relationships, our everything has happened there. Everything. And when you look down you realize that all of that is for what, a little space of land on one of millions - no billions - maybe trillions of planets in the galaxy. I don't get why we can't put our differences aside and get out there and explore. We aren't meant to stay here forever.
@Despacito lol owned. nice job
that.. that is deep

If you're going to quote Sagan then at least do it properly.

It's truly fortunate to live in times with such spectacular technology.
Do you know when this shit was build😅
Yet we have more problems than ever
how does this not have like 500,000,000,000 views like holy cow... wow... i'm in awe. when it focuses on the earth and you see us so tiny down there just.. wow.
BadKidAdvil - Gopro fisheye makes us even smaller....
BadKidAdvil because there are only ~ 8,000,000,000 people alive
Andres Falcon haha it's almost as if you can watch a video more than one time
BadKidAdvil everyone would have to watch it 62.5 times each. But I know what you're saying. It might be because it's over an hour long
Kevin Freeman it was hyperbole...
My 1st graders asked not to go to recess just to continue watching, so I let them. They were silent and enraptured. We combined this video with geography lesson, science lesson, and composition all about this video. Thank you!
Well that's 1 hour literally spent staring into space.
There are no boundaries between us as a species in space.
Possibly the most amazing video I've seen giving a true perspective like no other. Good old gopro
This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen.
Thank you !
Stunning video, beautiful footage.👽👍
How do you get work done with that view... I spend hours looking out over a lake from my office day dreaming, if that was my view my productivity would fall to zero!
they gave hours where they can sit and watch
PDS brought me here. Thanks Phil. And thank you ISS crew. This is amazing!
Dude you are the man for uploading this! A few months ago I was thinking there are not enough videos of space walks
49:07 - a Space Bumble Bee flies by.
lol. it's a piece of paint or cloth. SBB ... you crack me up :)
That was an et craft

Thanks! The closest I'll ever get to experience space! Must be so completely unreal to be up there, I can't even imagine..
Dutchie took the words right out of my mouth, don’t worry nasa can imagine for you.
Great!! Thanks Terry for sharing your EVA. I almost felt I was out there too. Fantastic quality pictures!!
Wow its so beautiful. I wish I could go there once. little tears on my eyes watching this
1 hour video in space, let's grab some popcorn and look into details to find something flying around :P
Alanj2007 Games LMFAOOOO or find reason to call it fake. Yeah these guys were pissed. That is the only reason we are enjoying this video cause some pick called all of Nasa fake.
Maybe all yor life is a big fake?
inb4 "there is no sound in space so why can we hear things?" + "where are the stars" comments
The sound is objects hitting the mic and rattling the diaphragm which makes sound. It’s essentially the sound of the vibration of objects banging together and you cant see stars because the suns light reflected off earth is drowning it out. It’s like shining a flashlight in the daytime you won’t see the light from the flashlight because it’s a lot dimmer from where the astronaut is
Plus, look at sun carefully especially at 23:00. Is there not a change ?
Best footage so far from the ISS, WOW!
GCI, sfx, bluescreen and zero G planes = NASA!!!
+funkybrain Someone didn't take their Ritalin pills.
And he also forgot to drink them with bleach.
This is truly inspiring. Finally, an actual almost in person view of what Earth looks like from up there.

Só vim a qui pra vê o ufo
Where are the UFOs?
Guywithcrazyideas Where are the thousands of satellites?
Universe369 the angle of the camera with the sun makes it hard to see reflected light. when the camera is facing the sun and earth it is near impossible. I haven't gotten far yet but check 3:23
Guywithcrazyideas How many car-sized objects does your GoPro pick up hundreds of miles away?
***** UFO's are much larger than car-sized, aren't they?
Guywithcrazyideas at 39:06 you will find one in the black region between hand and the solar panel, travelling from left to right. Reduce video speed to 0.25x. Enjoy
What a great look at the business-end of the Canadarm... (I kid, j/k, etc) It actually is awesome to see something so finely machined and well put together.
Fantastic footage.
Selfie in space! epic win wow
for all the people who say this is fake because there are no stars... if it is truly faked, they would've added stars in it too. they would have no logical reason to leave them out. I mean, common guys. just sit back, chilax, and enjoy the beauty of this masterful creation
Imagine making a fake video then you send it to all the news stations and be like I FORGOT THE FUCKING STARS
wow just wow...i needed this today
Absolutely incredible! Thanks for sharing!
34:06 top right, two Objects fly by really fast!! . there's also one that does a turn at 48:28 in the middle right, and there's a few at 48:43 that wipe by on the right side. at 49:06 as he moves his hand something fly's away really fast, a lot of trash in space. A Bright star or the moon at 3:12
It is water bubbles from the suit. Just Google it
Wow there really high up there literally high you can hear them smoking the bong
Seeing a video like this makes me proud to be a human. Nice stuff, ISS!
This is so beautiful I wish I could be up in space looking down at an amazing sight!
0:06 A Ghost :O
Worse. Space ghost! :O
Dont have enough? Here is another 40 minutes of awesome EVA GoPro footage. Exprience sunrise in orbit and watch astronauts ingress back to the ISS

+Ondřej Bílek Hey sorry if it is a dumb question but they have the proper equipement when they acidentaly get far from the station and be unable to grab anything? Like a jetpack maybe? Its because it seems so creepy to stay there with no one near by with uncapability to eat or drink.
+Mr.Eagle`n Deagle Primary function of a tether. You don't ever disconnect from the station unless you're contained within it.
Still some brave ass people though.
I would shit my pants from just looking outside the window, still the view looks great
from the computer, imagine looking at it with your eyes.
+David San
Sorry, but the big problem here, is that you don't understand how cameras work.
Do you REALLY expect to see stars on the same video as the brightly sunlit Earth, ISS and white spacesuits???
At about 3:15, where the cameras aperture has opened up more, because it's in shadow, you can see a white dot in the background in space. That's most probably the moon, and it's that small, because the camera has a wide angle lens.
+David San
"...not to mention that x times they send a thing to mars and that can take picture of the mars but not about our earth with sun, moon and other stars. "
As I said above: You have to learn how cameras work.
Have you EVER seen any stars on photographs of the other planets?
No, not even on the telescope photos 100 years old. Do you know why? The stars are WAAAY too faint, compared to the planets, to be registered by the camera.
To catch the stars, you need a MUCH longer exposure time, and such a long exposure would make the planets (including Earth) to look like big, white fuzzy blobs.
Imagine looking up into the sky at the ISS and knowing people are living there.
It is amazing how clean the equipment looks like :)
is the sound we're hearing strictly from the gopro rattling around in it's case?
Rogueish Aye. Sound doesn't just travel through air. It travels through pretty much anything, gas, liquid and solid alike - it doesn't travel through the vacuum of space though of course, because that's nothing. :)
capo2k8
That's actually incorrect. The only reason why there's not that much sound in space is because there is no atmosphere for the sound waves to bounce off of. There's no ocean of gas for the sound to be heard traveling through.
SomeKindaSpy That's exactly what capo said.
Freedom Of Nomad The GoPro is attached to the suit somehow... do you think that sound could be perhaps transmitted THROUGH that attachment point? You will notice the sound goes away when the camera is in his hands... which are soft fabric and rubber, but it gets loud when the camera is facing away from him and apparently in a mount of some kind.
Rogueish yes may be or since the sound moves in solids (space suit, gopro case, PCB.....till the microphone) so every time the astronaute touch the gopro or touch something while holding the gopro in his hand than you can hear this sound

Wow what an incredible view!! makes you feel so small and insignificant. Mind-boggling stuff.
5:42 - what is that spinny thing? Is it making coffee?
+WolfySnackrib666 Lol, it looks like a comms antenna.
***** Oh. I thought it might be for grinding the coffee beans. They must not be too fine, they must not be too coarse.
+WolfySnackrib666
It's a radar antenna.
YDDES If I had a radar antenna, I'd grind great coffee!
+WolfySnackrib666
Good luck with that...
I would seriously throw up and that's why I can't be an astronaut.
I wouldn't get anything done out there. I would just get mesmerized by the view
Nice and comfy in that studio.
God bless you guys!
48:29 - full screen, HD, and watch closely...
santomkd 46:00
I guess people could claim it is debris from what he is working on. However... at the 48 mark that the original post mentioned it is very clear that the astronaut is in the shade and that debris is in the sunlight. So what we're seeing is much further out and larger than a small piece of debris.
Also the object appears to move fast and erratically. It would require air to sway about like that, kind of like a piece of fluff or lint in the air on Earth.
santomkd 48:29 (see it with reduced speed at 0.25) and "coincidentally" this astronaut placed his hand o_O
santomkd What's the chance that was a satellite? Or some other identified object?
48:29 Ovni ....inter alia scenes behind the video one

I'm waiting for some kook to say they faked it because "no stars", like they do with moon landing footage :D :D
Thank you Ondrej! :D
BTW, the reason you can hear sound, is because the medium the sound is travelling through is the camera, astronaut, and entire ISS.
This sort of footage makes me want to cry, it's utterly stunning.
It also makes me want to cry at the inane ignorance of Flat-Earthers who want to ignore evidence to back up their outlandish theories.
Keep crying, you're oblivious anyway
Trash Boat Ahuh. Not as oblivious as Flat Earthers, though.
Why doesn't anyone ever notice that they never show the entire planet? the fisheye view ruins the experience because the earth doesn't actually look like this at this altitude -_-
Freedom Of Nomad tell me all the reasons why you believe this footage is fake.
Canadican Because he's a troll.
Lyphrus you already have, hence the problem.
***** wat.
Freedom Of Nomad I don't know if what you said is true, but there's no use. They've all been brainwashed since birth to believe just about anything... If NASA said they found a unicorn corpse on the moon, they'd eat it up and it would soon be FACT.
It's awesome! Thank you!
Amazing!
mankind has been going to space for almost 50 yrs and this is the only time they thought about this. clear, unedited, raw video of earth and space. the earth looks very fragile.
Beautiful... almost makes you want to go into song...
I love the whole world...
This is amazing!!!
This is a real privilege to see... It is the next best thing to being there! Really really cool!
Awesome!!!
Just goes to show how awesome a movie like Gravity was! The universe is truly beautiful.
There are so many cables , spare parts for attatching to the ISS. the EVA 30.
So cool!!
im not afraid to admit that im dreadfully scared of heights. however i feel scared yet calm just watching this and imagining how it would feel!
would be a scary yet relaxing sight at the same time.
thanks
This is awesome.
58:40 I'm speechless, that overview is too perfect
I saw spectacular technology from the International Space Station Expedition 42.
watching this while listening to the interstellar soundtrack... so epic!
:)
Excellent, excellent work. I'm proud to be a human because of these people.
Just think, in the silence of space below those clouds lay a bustling world full of culture, sights, sounds, passions, wonders and more. It is strange to be alive.
so good
Earth from space looks sooo peaceful and calm. Our Homeworld...
Brilliant graphics
Polar Bear yeah, real life must some really powerful GPUs to run.
Now, THAT'S production value !!!
Hey check out at 39:06, you'll find something fly past at great speed. Black region between hand and the solar panel.
If you slow down the video you can see a few objects "fly" past!
How come there's no sound in the beginning. I'm curious to know what they were saying.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
Amazing. Had no idea that they were so close to the earth.
Anyone know what (where) the circle is that comes into view at (52:46)?
How is it picking up audio from that antenna array's motor? At first I thought it was a defect in the camera, but found the tone changed every time it was moved out of eyeshot of the array.
How could you get any work done..I wouldn't be able to tear my gaze away from the Earth,it's so very beautiful.
What's that sound that starts around 3:50?
By the way, if you're not sure where they're at. The Baja peninsula comes in to view just past 40:00 minutes.
whats the rotating dish doing? triangulating land based gsm/gps feeds?
Had a moment of dejavu when looking at horizon of planet, for a second it reminded me of movie Gravity... I was waiting for a debris field to come slamming though... :P
beautiful, great commercial for GoPro
I will never film anything this cool, and yet this is just a routine day at work for them.
M750 just film yourself failing...it could be better than this!
Baja California Sur and mainland Mexico at around 42:20. Beautiful!

Amazing thanks for this video ;)
4:40 ish is that the sound of the dish rotating travelling through the structure?
what is the sound of 4:06 ?? the camera was touching some sort of device and was resonating ?? otherwise strange cuz there is no sound in space
wow this looks so real..
