You have this rare feeling that makes you sound like David and it is very unique. You are very talented, the best when it is about David Gilmour. Great !
This comes quite timely. I've spent the weekend trying to learn the third solo - (my guess it's the neck pickup + phase 90 there) - and my hands hurt so much with all that bending! You did it all brilliantly. Bravo!
Nice cover my friend. I myself tried to get some tones covering shine on you crazy diamond, the Pulse version, and singing as well. I've used simple gears, but I'm quite happy with the result, the way of playing the way Gilmour plays is, I would dare to say, 90% of the Gilmour tone right? Keep uploading good stuff. Subscribed!
MUSTY, Gilmour used which compressor pedal on Shine on you crazy Diamond intro section? Gilmour is rolling the strats TONE to 5 to 6 but is also using a compressor pedal + with a Colorsound PowerBooster pedal at the same time. The Colorsound Powerbooster was replaced using the BK tube driver. The Floyd album Obscured by Clouds Gilmour is using the Colorsound Powerbooster pedal on all of the guitar tracks and guitar solos. Gimours TIME guitar solo is using a Compressor pedal BEFORE a fuzz face, which you haven't made a video lesson about this using a compressor pedal BEFORE a fuzz face which this was later replaced by a RAMs head Big Muff because Gilmour using the Big Muff as a compressor, Not as a distortion pedal.
there are a few key points I need to make here: - I don't think Gilmour rolled off his tone knob. He didn't even use a compressor PEDAL for the original recording. He may just directly go into the desk or maybe recorded a clean hiwatt sound. There is heavy compression in the final mix but it's the post production. "I" roll off my tone knob to get that mix sound. I liked how it turned out. I used Cali76 here and a little MXR Dyna Comp Mini after it. So there are 2 compressors I use but both of them are low amount of compressions. Why not use 1 heavy compression? Well, I have my compressor pedals set to a very general setting. I don't like to change them much. If, in a case like this, a clean solo, I need more than a little compression, I stomp on the second one too. - I don't think Gilmour used compressor PEDAL with fuzz face too. Compression is added in the mix where it's needed. - Colorsound Powerboost is very different than Tube Driver in my opinion. Powerboost is a fuzz in it's nature. Tube driver is an overdrive. You can use powerboost as an overdrive like Gilmour and I and many many other guitar players did, but you can't use Tube Driver as a fuzz pedal. It can try to sound like a fuzz with nasty settings and EQ, but they are different types of pedals, in my humble opinion. Nothing sounds like tube driver really, it's a very unique drive pedal. Fat, smooth, nasty, thin, thick. Weirdo! Colorsound on the other hand is very easy to build yourself too. 3 transistor, basic pedal. I like colorsound more though. Nasty, thick as a brick, not as smooth as tube driver for sure. - I think we're exaggerating the compressor usage of Gilmour a little bit. It's definitely necessary, it's DEFINITELY NECESSARY FOR CLEAN SOUNDS, but you can get the big muff or fuzz or even overdrive tones without compressor.
MUSTY, Make a video lesson about how David Gilmour uses the Electro Harmonix EHX Electric Mistress on the albums Animals and The Wall because he uses the EHX electric Mistress very subtle so you don't hear the sweeping up and down flanger effect its more subtle. The animals albums EHX electric mistress he uses it more like a notch Filter. The Wall album he uses the EHX Electric Mistress on all the guitar tracks mostly which gives this throaty liquid tone. You don't hear the sweeping up and down flanger effect at all.
Hey, I tried for months now to get that tone with all the tips you give in other videos but can't get it. If I become a patreon, can you help me out? Thanks.
@@mustyguitar I got the Blues Driver, the MXR Phase 90 (with script option) and the Flashback Delay, but I can't seem to find the tone (except for the Phaser at Syd's theme). I'm using a Godin Session guitar with a Fender Deville 2x12 speaker.
@@PhilippusPistor sorry for my late reply, I didn't see a notification. Blues driver is a nasty pedal like hi-power. when I use it to replicate colorsound tones, I use the gain knob around 14 o'clock and use my guitar volume quite a lot. tone knob depends on your amp settings for sure but I think having it around noon and listening from there is a good start. the downside of your rig is that you use a humbucker bridge pickup. that will be toooo powerful, and a bit different even if you compensate the power with lower gain. they serve different purposes. for the intro solo, you don't need anything but your amp actually. a compressor would be a bit better if you have it. for delay, I'd use analog delay mode on flashback. around 370ms would do just fine but you don't have to hear the delay that much. 5-6 repeats, mild delay is just fine.
@@mustyguitar Thanks for the tips. I can switch my humbucker to single, so that is not a problem and I have the MXR dyna comp. I put it to what setting?

Do you think you’ll ever do a cover of parts 6-9?

Great playing musty! I have a question. I have the Keeley Dark side pedal, what are your settings to use for on an island solos?
Im not sure now but I will cover castellorizon and on an island together and do a tone guide video on my Patreon.
About your guitar, is it a dalphne or sonic blue ? Mexico reissue ? What are the pickups?
it's 50's reissue mexican. I think it's daphne and I got texas special in the neck (which will change in a few weeks) and ssl-5 on bridge
Always boggled me how david can heavily modify the sound of the guitar and yet that strat sparkle still come through
Magical ! Did he use a Les Paul on the record? For the first bit? Always sounded very fat for a Strat
Nah, but I believe and I’m not %100 sure, he feed his guitar into mixing desk for it. With tons of compression
What are the models of those guitars ?

@ I like to have the sensitivity around 2 o’clock or so for these types of clean leas sounds and output to desired level

Part 6-9 please
gahaha 09:40 that mistake is there too xD
Luckily you have a stretchy little finger in the sax solo. I can’t do that.
Get a device that gives the exact pitch of the note you're bending
I'm happy with what I do
Terrible👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
