Even before the solos start, I'm remembering the one and only time I've seen this epic masterpiece performed live, 10 rows from center stage at the MGM Gardens in Las Vegas, back in 2000 at Roger Waters "In the Flesh" concert, with Snowy White and Doyle Bramhall II dueling it out, back and forth, righty vs lefty, Gibson vs Strat, high atop the fucking stage above me! Epic and Incredible! In truth, wisdom teaches those who listen, that music's a compilation, not a competition, and especially when the music is timeless and truly brilliant. David and Roger created this song, they argued over the solo and Pink Floyd became one less brilliant musician shorthly thereafter because of their "creative differences" (among other things) when Roger left to pursue his solo career after the band produced "The Final Cut" (but without Richard Wright). At Rogers Waters "In the Flesh" concert I attended in 2000, I had bought 8 tickets together in the 10th row for myself and 7 close friends, and I was thinking to have each of us stand up holding over our heads a one word/phrase per cardboard sign that together read "WHAT" "GOD" "WANTS" "PART IV:" "ROGER" "DAVID" "RICHARD" "NICK", hoping Roger would read it and possibly consider rejoining Pink Floyd to continue their songwriting mastery once again (at God's request) and the billions of worldwide fans that love Pink Floyd's music. I got the idea for the 8 worded signs from Roger's "Amused to Death" album, and specifically because of it's 3 songs "What God Wants Parts I, II, and III". My 8 signs would be a continuation of "What God Wants (Part IV)" in a nod/direct reference to the 3 songs on that epic album that is so wonderfully performed with Jeff Beck's weeping lead guitarwork on much of the album. Also, on Roger's "Pro's and Cons of Hitchhiking" album, a vintage Eric Clapton brilliantly plays the lead guitar. This brings me to the point I'm trying to make, that as much as I was sad, mad, angry, and pissed off because it hurt when Roger Waters left Pink Floyd decades ago, I'd never now be able to enjoy hearing Jeff Beck make his guitar weep so beautifully on the "Amused to Death" album, or hear a vintage Eric Clapton's epic lead guitar work on "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" if Roger had never left Pink Floyd to start his solo career. So basically, wisdom taught me to stop considering music as a competition between David and Roger, and simply embrace and love all of their music that they've created (together or apart) as parts of a compilation. I'm finally at peace with Roger leaving Pink Floyd, and especially glad I never did the "What God Wants Part IV" thing at the MGM, because Waters probably would have told all 8 of us to go "Fuck off to the bar!" (hehe). Perhaps my lesson will teach others still mad or hurting from Roger leaving Pink Floyd/never to create music with David Gilmour again to deal with these sad facts in a new way or with greater or improved clarity. Regardless, shine on, you crazy diamonds!
Thank you Doctor for this endless version of my favourite Gilmoure's magical solo. I can totally cleaned up when I hearing this masterpiece. Somethimes this music is my medicine. I know I changed to a bit better man cause the music. Thanks for it!
I don't know the music theory but after dozens and dozens of listenings to the Pulse 1994 version, I still have the impression that the solo is going in circles... 💫 ♻
Very few have heard them playing this as a 4 piece live. The 31 shows during the Wall tour (only 12 dates in the states, in NY and LA only) + Live 8. Extremely rare occurrence.
I really like what you've done there. Please list the performances these were taken from (some of which I've clearly never heard before). I know most people say the "Pulse" version is best, but for me, it's the "Delicate Sound of Thunder" version which gives me the most frisson.
@IanHodgetts ... You should have a look at the Live At Pompeii version ! 9:41 long. ruclips.net/video/eHKG7EMxWW8/видео.html Not so young anymore, but the MAGIC is still there.
Unfortunately it loses the progressive nature of the solo, getting more and more raucous as it builds to the climax. Circling repeatedly back to the calmer parts doesn't really work. And I say this as someone for whom "Pulse" on repeat is the only music I need in my car.
For me it’s kind of like a diesel that has lower rpm than a gasoline engine. Love that it keeps going back down to the lower intensity, more torque. To me, guitars aren’t meant to scream like they’re being murdered.
GRANDI IMMENSI INTRAMONTABILI PINK FLOYD SEMPRE E PER SEMPRE!!! STRAORDINARIO DAVID COI SUOI ASSOLI,QUESTO POI È IL PIÙ IN ASSOLUTO SPECIALE!!! PINK FLOYD PER SEMPRE❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ GRANDE MUSICA DA BRIVIDO TUTTI I LORO LAVORI

Thank you Doctor for this endless version of my favourite Gilmoure's magical solo. I can totally cleaned up when I hearing this masterpiece. Somethimes this music is my medicine. I know I changed to a bit better man cause the music. Thanks for it!
Best version of this song ever!
Excellent idea! You beat me to it but honestly you did a better version than I would've done. So congrats!
Only ONE Pink Floyd forever. What a band, I saw them 4 times in 4 different Continents.
Fantastic ...
Absolutely fantastic !!!
Regards from Macedonia

Excellent editing! So smooth. Very good.
Thank you Doctor, I'm feeling better.
Beautiful ❤
I alway feel unlucky, because I cound't had the chance listening these guys alive at their prime. Almost tears me up...
Very few have heard them playing this as a 4 piece live.

I could listen to this all day! Ty.
That's sort of how it feels live, but in a good way.
Unbelievable version of this song! Thank you! New subscriber.
Magistral ✨🎸🎶💎🎵😎👌

MAN IT SAD WHEN IT END
uauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, MARAVILHOSO, BEAUTIFUL
Can you do this for On The Turning Away and Sorrow Please!!

P.S. Can you do a version of Ian Bairnson's solo at the end of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" (even the extended version is still too short) ;-)
I think, album version best, it is hope and despair, true epic
@IanHodgetts ... You should have a look at the Live At Pompeii version ! 9:41 long.

Not so young anymore, but the MAGIC is still there.
Delicate sound of thunder
IAGREE DELICATE SOUND OF THUNDER WAS THE BEST
My arms are getting tired playing my Air Guitar 🎸🎸
To me the Earl's Court solo was the best
Very nice.
Especially when it gets to the coming through in waves part, where for some reason I always need a pee break.
Grandisssssssssimoooooooooooooo
It's like taking a bath in dopamine when I listen to this song
Fucking great!!!
I had no clue!😮
Excellent experiment 👏🏼
I don’t know if David Gilmour is the best guitarist ever…but he is MY best guitarist ever 😜
Hai ancora dei dubbi?
Who’s listening in 2004
Pqp hein!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I always recognize PULSE's version
Whose idea was this? Genius.
😮
Holy Sh......tttt
WOW
Aúlla la guitarra de David

also u missed the roger waters comfortably numb of 2015, one of the many best versions
And Run Like Hell please
stunning phrasing and playing, but your guitar tone is a pale imitation of dave gilmours, more gain, slight chorus, reverb please
It's a remix of different live performances
That is said gilmour
This sounds stupid ...but I feel this song talks to me.
Are you ok 👌
I'm not 😂
Shame it isn't Pink Floyd, let alone not David Gilmour. I give it 5/10
