Also glad to see that the fanbase seems to appreciate her more this time around. I really like Tifa too, but this huge "Tifa >>> Aerith" that I experienced online in like the last 20 years always seemed so strange to me. Aerith is a big part of the reason why FF7 and FF7R share the spot of favorite game of all time with Zelda for me. I wasn't born when the game came out but through my older siblings I relived a lot of the 90s in my childhood. I knew long before that Aerith would die. I barely´blinked an eye when I first saw the cutscene in 2008-2010. But then I grew up. I was bullied throughout school for being weird and 'different' I made fast friends but they were only ever skin deep relationships. I had my first love but she rejected me and i spent the next years desperetly trying to 'replace' that feeling. I always felt like I could never quite fit in my family and that I was destined to die at 18. I got a job at a flower shop and spend my days miserable and on the brink of a meltdown.
    and then FF7R came out. I decided to check it out after witnessing the hype and... its undiscribable . there's a character with brown hair, green eyes, a love for flowers and a will to live. Aerith shines bright no matter how much she went through in her life. She cheers cloud up and teases him while barely even knowing him. She has this motherly and wise style that reminded me strongly of my grandmother and her dialoge and behaviors are simply adorable. All of a sudden I had an example of how to deal with grief and loss. How to choose to live no matter how hard it gets and brighten everyones day around you. I got really into flowers and actually started having fun at my job even moving on to rise in the company . To be Aerith symbolizes hope.

    What I love most about Aerith and this version of her especially is that she is kind of a deconstruction of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl archetype. Yes, she does show bubbliness, a cheerful demeanor, sassiness and optimistic thinking, but there is so much more behind the scenes. We can empathize with her and... she kind of makes us want to be a better person. If there is an excellent example of how to write and take that trope, that's Aerith.

    Exactly. Aerith had similar experience to Cloud growing up and I can relate to that. I never really had friends growing up (I have an anxiety disorder on top of ADHD) so even though I never played Final Fantasy 7 I think I feel a connection, a kinship with Aerith because she didn’t really have friends growing up as well so I can relate to her. Aerith and Cloud both had tough lives without any father figures in their lives and were isolated from their communities for reasons outside their control which is why Cloud felt such a connection with Aerith, why he fell in love with her. He found someone who could relate to what he went through, who understood what it’s like to be treated like an outcast. It is actually said that the strongest relationships (especially romantic) are those in which the people have commonalities and shared interests as well as similar experiences. This is why Cloud and Tifa never seem to get together, they don’t share the same childhood experience that Cloud and Aerith share. Now I’m not saying Cloti won’t happen but in order for it to happen Cloud and Tifa need to have a heart to heart, in which Tifa fully understands what Cloud went through and can be empathetic about the treatment he received by the other kids, including her.

      As stated in another video, where the romantic bonding between Aerith and Cloud is treated, you can read this phrase: "Sharing the same ideas doesn't necessarily mean that there's a complicity in the relationship. It's not just about harmony between two people... Complicity goes much, much deeper, it's a question of providing your partner with what they're missing."

    • @mirandagoldstine8548

      @@SixDovahkiin That’s true. Aerith provided support to Cloud which he had lacked as a child outside the love of his mother and Cloud did the same for Aerith. Theirs is a relationship of mutual understanding, of a willingness to help heal one another of what they dealt with as kids. Which is probably why Cloud was so heartbroken over losing Aerith: he lost the person who could relate to what he went through and was helping him to see the beauty in humanity. I really hope they can get a happy ending because if Aerith gets killed again Cloud will experience heartbreak and depression all over again.

    I *do not* believe Aerith has to die and people who constantly push that narrative give me a weird vibe, which I really don't want to get into.

      I think it destroys the character and replaces it with a new one if she lives. If you retell the story of Jesus, and he doesnt die on the cross, thats a different character, and removes a very important part of what defines him. If you could make that a "canon story" somehow that changes everything people have thought about the character and the story from before. Apologies if this feels like an upsetting comparsion. If square makes her survive this time around they undo a major point in the original story and her character.
      That said, I think they will get our hopes up, and then she dies anyway. They could do the same story beat, and the whole destiny thing would make it matter, because it seemed like it could be avoided. But death cant be avoided, and that was part of the point of both aerith and the story of the og.

      I just say this: do you remember what happened at the beginning of FF7R? Why Sephiroth appears just after the bombing? Because if Cloud forgets him, Sephiroth will be absorbed by the Lifestream and defeated. Now, if the Remake is going to have a good ending, how is exacly this be possible, if Aerith dies at the Sephiroth hand (considering expecially what happened in AC?)? Cloud again would pratically never recover from this and Sephiroth will remain endlessly. How can this be a "Good Ending"? How can be, a sorrowful ending, like there was on FF7 OG, and for the most part of AC, be "Good"?

    She makes the main character be in touch with humanity and himself in genuine and honest ways. She wants Cloud to not put up this mask he constructed to just play the badass who does what he does with no hard feelings. She is also going to save humanity, the whole world, and the main character along with the other important characters in the party. In Midgar, everyone is cut off from nature and the company who runs the city exploits nature for economic benefit. She does it because she appreciates and loves nature which makes the flower seller job not some random minimum wage job she picked up to get paid (unlike Cloud who does odd jobs just for money). Her house is the most colorful, natural, and filled with life in Midgar. The tragedy is driven to her due to her Cetran heritage, yet she still stays positive and wants others to be positive. She doesn’t do this love at first sight stuff and care for others by being “nice” to expect something from them, she gives it to others because of her genuine intentions within. Aerith is almost.. perfect in her own right. She’s just too damn good of a character. She definitely the main female character in FF7 (Tifa being 2nd of course). Trying to hate her or make her look bad is pretty much like trying to ridicule nature itself AND the damn story.

These characters are golden, and Aerith has ALWAYS been one of the best videogame characters of all time. FF7R somehow makes her even better. Briana White did such an amazing job with Aerith :)

    This is an amazing video. Honestly, she’s the best girl in the final fantasy franchise by far.
    She understands what it’s like to be alone. She understands that Cloud built up walls around himself, but she just doesn’t care. Unlike Tifa, she continues to try and break those walls down and succeeds. She helps Cloud understand the meaning in caring about the planet, she breaks his walls down, she’s one of the only characters to not push him away, instead embracing him and helping him come out of his shell.
    During the sector 5 bombing mission, when Barret was celebrating the team weakening the Airbuster by diverting its important materials, he asked Cloud to dance. Cloud stated he doesn’t dance. However, at the honeybee inn when confronted with a similar situation, all it took was one look at her face and he was willing to dance.
    He told Barret to “Get help” when he was talking to cloud about hearing the planet, but when Aerith said something very similar he wanted to know what the planet said, and even talked to it himself. She knew in the original that she and she alone could stop Sephiroth, so she shouldered the burden alone, and communed with cloud via lifestream through his dreams. I believe that even though she wanted to do it alone, she still told him about the city of the ancients in his dreams because she wanted to see him one last time.

    I think that when people say FF7 og graphics were good, they're not talking about graphics as we talk about modern graphics. I think it's about presentation. It's presentation that in 3d space, you have an avatar. That you have 4 different avatars, world map, field map, battle and cg. FF7 was revolutionary in how the graphics presented and conveyed the avatars actions, how the presentation conveyed the story in an interactive artform. And the cutscenes.

    • @lightknight172
      @lightknight172  2 года назад

    Fortunatelly the gang changed the future at the end of Remake, despite all the efforts of the Arbiters of Fate to keep the events the same they were in the original game, and maybe Aerith will be spared this time, because it was ultimately her death that led to Sephiroth's downfall. What most critics failed to realize is that while this is the same setting as the original game, it's a new, different story, made by Jenova/Sephiroth travelling back to the past before being destroyed to change the future, which makes more sense. "Remake" doesn't actually refer to a remake of the game, but Sephiroth's efforts to remake the future, and Gaia reacting to his plans by sending the whispers/arbiters to try to preserve the future in which the planet wins. And since the team destroyed the Arbiters, everything is uncertain now, an unknown journey. As the last chapter's name suggested, they went through destiny's crossroads.

    The voice actress in the remake IS great but I have an issue with her delivery of Aerith. She made her sound too childlike, as if she was trying to make her to seem as likable as possible but too perky and unnatural. She sounds like the "manic pixie" trope. Aerith was more down to earth and grounded than her portrayal in the remake. Plus she's older than Cloud and grew up in the slums. Aerith was tougher than her appearance let on.

    • @SuperBrianMak
      @SuperBrianMak 2 года назад +2

      @@lightknight172 But Aerith isn't just "sweet and innocent". Now, that's the problem. She's spunky but at the same time, she's a 22 year old grown woman (older than Cloud AND Tifa) who's been through a lot in her youth, deals with being the last of an extinct race, survived in a dog-eat-dog environment, and has been in and out of danger throughout her life. Hell, she had a boyfriend in womanizing, flirtatious Zack, which meant she had some maturity and sass. I get her demeanor is compassionate, playful, and upbeat, but at the end of it all, she's a young woman who's wise, perceptive and chooses to never lose hope. That doesn't mean she should sound chipper and perky all the time. I hear those kinds of voices in female anime characters all the time, usually to make them sound really feminine and convince the audience they're "likeable".

    While I've played FF7 & the remake I've always been a bit biased against the game due to its fanfare from people who didn't play JRPGs on SNES. There's no doubt it does characterization (especially remake) very well, but having a large community overlook FF6 & personally much more aggrivatingly Chrono Trigger (which I stand by my stance it's not only a better game from gameplay, but also story & characters) has always made me disconnect with the game. This is despite being so hyped for it back in the day it was my "Killer App" that made me want a Playstation, funny I got it on PC instead of console.
    Areiths death never hit me that hard back in the day as I'd gone through similar situations in FF6, CT & other JRPGs. I totally get why both that scene & the game caught people's attention though, as if it was your first JRPG it's a great starting note. I do want to replay Remake whenever part 2 comes out as I was irritated at the controls for most of the game (a dodge should have invincibility frames!) & didn't enjoy it until I switched to Classic mode, but really enjoyed the DLC. Hope fully removing the irritation of combat controls will allow me to enjoy the characters & story more.

It just took too many steps back for me in gsmeplay & got recognition for things that had been done before (& depending on opinion better, though that can be subjective) which really bothered/bothers me.
      Ultimately both are still great games, so it's like comparing honours students. I guess it comes with the territory of being an early adopter of JRPGs in North America.

Not saying it isn't valid, but if you look at things objectively (which I always try to do) it's just another great game that had timing in its favor & the alure of technical improvements that don't hold up as well as older titles (generally speaking).

    But man they didn't do her justice in Rebirth. Cloud was so soft and nice with her in the Remake, in Rebirth he swapped completely. He has a harder tone towards her than towards Tifa. Not to mention the gondola dates. Even on their last date he behaves like a weirdo around her, not like he has any feelings for her, like I clearly sensed it in the Remake. i don't know what made the devs make these changes in writing.
