Breaking up Max and Chloe makes the ending where you save her basically pointless.. Not to mention, they wrote their breakup in a way that is extremely OOC for Chloe. Then they had the audacity to say that they respected both endings (which we know isn't true). So that's why people are upset about the Max & Chloe breakup.
I thought their break up was perfectly realistic. Even in the comics, which aren't canon, Max left Chloe for a while because she couldn't handle the guilt. And statistically couples break up, a majority of the time for two reasons: they started dating young and they went through something traumatic together. That's a double whammy for Max and Chloe. Plus, Max killed her mom, despite Chloe begging her not to. Imo, that relationship was doomed to fail.
@@kirikakirikakirika I agree a lot with this, I just wish they explained and showed this more. They did should’ve spent more time explaining what happend exactly
They completely lied to us about “respecting both endings,” they literally just decided to write Chloe out of the story & not even in any sort of respectful way, it makes me wonder what they think that their first game was even about.
Personally it's not about the ship. Firstly, I saved Chloe because my real best friend had died 4 years prior to me playing this game, so I just couldn't possibly chose the other option, didn't even cross my mind - but that's a very personal choice there ofc. Secondly, I got mad at Double Exposure because to me, making players choose between her diying or a breakup (and on terrible terms if I may add) is like a giant middle finger in the face of people that saved her. Like "no hahaha you just can't have a happy ending fu :)"... They can't possiblity say they respected both endings. They could have done it other ways, like for instance being long distance and thus you don't romance anyone (bc yes, some people doesn't need the same character to romance a new person each game..??) or at the very least make them taking a break or something? Simple, softer... But we know that D9 notoriously doesn't like Chloe so... yeah 😢 And to think that when I'll get to play the game I know that I'd rather pick the "She died" option is just heartbreaking to me. I've never let her die in 9 years replaying the game now and then. They fcked up and it's sad. 😟 I'm even more excited to play new Dontnod game Lost Records then Double Exposure since this got revealed...
I definitely agree with your point about the Max and Chloe breakup as I mentioned here: 5:48 I feel like that critique is valid but it is getting overshadowed by people expressing that that they were only playing the game for a couple and sending hate to developers which is where they kinda lose me My condolences for your friend ❤️🩹 thank you for sharing your perspective!
Dontnod did much better, even though they don't appear in Life is Strange 2, when we sacrificed Arcadia Bay, we can see thanks to David and the photos that they continued with their lives together
1. Out of Character. 2. Wasted Potential. 3. Lack of Creativity. 4. Less-funny gameplay than First Game. 5. Ruins and Disrespected both routes from First Game. 6. I strongly advise those to read the Life is Strange: Dust comic. The amount of story and building on the foundation that was there would have been perfect.
Short answer: Yes Compared to the first game, its actually really bad lol. It feels soulless, forced romances, and just feel corporate idk and the plot is boring and characters. All these trigger warning options yet nothing happens lol. They shouldve just followed the comics bc that was the best sequel ever. Decknine just shit on the fanbase and main creators i feel like and wanted a quick buck. But fr though... who tf is Safi? who are these characters like.. they dont really seem as unique as the first game
@@mysteryinc8131 I understand the forced romances, first episode the game basically guides you to be interested in Amanda. Trigger warnings I assume are for what happened to Maya. Can you explain what you mean by soulless and corporate ? I just want to understand your opinion on the game a little more
@@reesyve Hey! Its not just about maya, in the settings menu theres trigger warnings for just about everything (i assumed the game would be intense, like the first one) but it was really underwhelming. By soulless i mean the music, the writing, the art, max's journal, graffiti just all seems too "clean" or ai generated. The font they use in the game seems like comic sans (not handwritten) and its theres none of that organic indie flare. The music was also a lot more memorable in the first game. @@mysteryinc8131 I see. If I understand what you’re saying then I kind of agree on some points. As I mentioned in the video, the game doesn’t really feel full. It’s lacking depth and some personality. I think they were leaning too heavy on nostalgia and were hoping people’s nostalgia would carry the game when in reality it didn’t. For me, the excitement of seeing max again wore off and I was like the game is empty. I did still find enjoyment in some parts of the game, which is why I personally can’t consider it terrible like many others. Thanks for sharing your perspective with explanation! I like hearing other people’s explanations/opinions so I can understand different points of views.
@@mysteryinc8131 trigger warning are insane in this game. They have a warning for drug use and it's just a mention of Gwen selling drugs, not an actual depiction. And it's like that with everything! I guess for me while I enjoyed a lot of the characters and the romance with Amanda, I am upset about the breakup storyline with Chloe because it felt like a slap in the face, but also out of character for Chloe to do it in a letter, and then being besties with Victoria Chase. 1. Chloe is a very confrontational person who tells it to you straight. For her to dump max in a letter and bail feels like a fuck you to not just their romantic relationship but their friendship especially when she got on Max for lack of communication and she’s mad at Rachel Amber for the same thing. I also legit don’t see Max, who was recently traumatized about her powers, losing the ability to do them, and greatly hates it, was using it to her advantage to get Chloe to say yes to moving? 2. Not a lot of life is strange fans know about the comics, so seeing Victoria chase was alive and Chloe was good with her really upset me because I felt it defeated the purpose of the choice and consequences. Now learning there’s a possibility others survived.. it’s like on one hand, cool, on the other, what was the point of some fan favorite major characters still made it? I guess the only thing that made me enjoy DE was literally every other secondary or side character. Amanda was fun, Moses is legit my favorite I might make him into my own character, Diamond was also cool, and I enjoyed Gwen! Everyone else? Ehhhhh…
It is still bad to be harassing the devs, bc the game was never gonna be another max and Chloe based on the promos. Like I said, for me the writing to do the break up does enough to butcher Chloe’s character. I could understand maybe long distance and then no romance, or they’re just friends and they went their own ways, maybe having the ability to text her too since if you chose the break up option, Chloe tests you out of concern.
@ very. When you chose break up, you see her posting a lot and interacting with Victoria and wanting to hang out. From what I hear from fans I guess the writing team have something against Chloe for years now. I haven’t kept up with the fandom that closely to see, but apparently the butchering of her character isn’t the first time it’s happened :/
Yeah I agree with a lot you of your points. The advantage thing mentioned in the letter was so out of place. Chloe also never referenced feeling manipulated in the original game and it was never a narrative point for their relationship. Like the whole point is that Max uses her rewind powers to be liked by people, which she does not need to rely on near Chloe since they're already close. They obviously placed that in because later on the game touches the subject of exploiting powers and tries to convince us Max is this great manipulator or whatever. I don't mind the potential of their breakup but it was not handled with care. You cannot just cut Chloe off from the Life is Strange universe without any coherent explanation and expect people to be on board. Also Victoria is not even in a bunker in my playthrough, how th is she alive?
i genuinely wish they said we stay in touch, or we don't contact anymore it would be more subjective cuz the idea of canonizing two people being a couple when its a choice game and some of the players (one of them) saw Chloe genuinely as a friend and nothing more than that.....
Not sure if this is true or not, but I heard that fans were so upset about Chloe and Max breaking up (if you choose to save her instead of Arcadia Bay) that they decided to threaten one of the voice actresses. While I get why they would be upset, to threaten other people is diabolical work. Plus, I’m not too surprised that they did separate. Chloe was practically begging Max to sacrifice her so that the town would be saved and that Rachel Amber’s murder would be solved. If you choose to not respect her wishes, her mother dies as well as literally everyone else, other than David and Victoria. If I was Chloe, I’d be pissed at Max too. But, great video
For a VA its to be expected nowadays unfortunately to get backlash if you play a shit character, but still gotta get that bank somehow lol Also Chloe told max that regardless how she choosing she knows it'd be the right call. The creators said that the canon ending was to sacrifice the bay for the bae. The comic book series is the best sequel
@ Are you really defending unhinge fans sending death threats to a voice actress? 😐 even if you didn’t personally like the character, that still isn’t okay and shouldn’t be excused at all!
