It would have been SO COOL to see her actually teaching, coming full circle from student to master. They could have used that to reflect on her time during Jefferson’s class and using that to make callbacks like… it’s not that hard?
I replayed the first after i was done with DE. When David saves you in the darkrrom and David says "he always suspected that bitch" if you went with "I never did" Max says after two lines (Talking about Jefferson) "He wasnt a real teacher he just wanted to lecture" and my mind instantly went to why the fk isnt this a part of trauma Max goes through in the game. Thinking of Max having a lecture talking about portaiture and her mind go rushes to that Jefferson class where it started about "the Daguerreian process" or a student asking about how to frame a photo in a good way and her mind goes to " I could frame you any one of you in a dark corner, and capture you in a moment of desperation" and have Max lose how to say "control" for a moment with choices like bullshit your way through or talk about how you who took the picture wants it to show. As Jefferson said " Im obsessed with the idea of capturing that moment innocence evolves into corrution" Everyone agree Max would never fking forget what Jefferson told her both in the lectures and in the darkroom have a fking callback and make a good as game with good writing but instead we got "the biggest piece of dog shit ive ever played" I legit had the Joe Rogan gif expression when I saw the trailers for DE how wrong i were....
So that's why Max didn't feel like a teacher at all because I've never seen her teach! So I agree, they should've shown a scene like the one on Jefferson's class for a full circle thing
@@uwumarii If you read some comments futher down many people have pointed out that Jefferson is an asshole beyond anything but when he spoke about photogohpy he sure knew what he was saying. I think the LIFE part of the game should always be the major part. As such Max is a teacher great! Have her teach like 5 min in 1 episode, show her doing the end of an lecture thinking back on (this my opinion) Jefferson or how much she has "transformed" into Jefferson. I really REALLY wanted after I played the first game to have a scene with Max if you choose to Safi that when she ask if you can would kill her and if you said yes that Max would be like "Jesus im i becoming Jefferson? All this death around me and now I would kill my two bestfriends? Just like that? And I said it out loud? And im teaching art like him? Who even am I???"( if you choose to have Chloe dead) Fuck me that would be so good... Having Max wondering if her power turned her into some maniac killer for the "greater good" Having her question if she would use her power to go back if she needed to and adding more deaths to her mind and adding that she knows her powers fucks everything around her just add that. Why did D9 fuck this game up so horribly. All the gotddamn writers of this game should just stop writing for LIF game because when you fk up this badly.. yeah
@@andy12345mge dude I agree with everything you wrote. There's such a potential to make a devastating exploration of Max's trauma it's insane. Jefferson haunting her is such an obvious narrative decision, the option for GREATNESS is staring them right in the face. But instead Max doesn't even feel like a teacher! She talks with students casually, has no ethical boundaries, snoops around the campus like a student - not like a teacher -, changed grades of students, and barely ever even mentions herself being a teacher. There's just so much wrong with it! Max would not do this shit and would not approach teaching so carelessly It's been like a month since the game came out and I'm still burning with anger this game pisses me off so much oh my god Even Max's journal had the potential to at least visualize her Jefferson trauma. Max's journal turns progressively darker and serious in the original game. Instead it's some anime sparkls in DE, what the hell is going onnnn
The main issue I honestly had that put me off was the fact that MAX IS A FACULTY MEMBER?! Shes not a student, though it seems like she is, she doesnt fit in with faculty members, she feels like a college kid...
They wrote her to be youthful, and sexy, and into hooking up with multiple people. She's just a male fantasy in DE, even down to her being bi (that means there's a chance of threesomes!). What they couldn't do was write her to be mature, responsible and married to a woman. How can young, male gamers get a chubby out of that?!
i loved safi from the first three chapters and really disliked her in the last two.. so yeah.. idk why they ruined her character so fast. the last choice was such a boring choice because it felt like it didn't matter at all, and it wasn't hard to make a decision AT ALL since, at this stage, safi was only annoying and idk why i would let max join her after her selfish and destructive behavior. oh and also, wasn't the whole point of the first game to teach us that max should not use her power because it is destructive. and this game shows us AGAIN that it is and yet, at the end, we get a choice that is based on whether max will join some kind of superpowered gang basically. makes no sense
bro safi was not in the game for 2 nd and 3 rd chapter she was barely in it as chloe replacement it is like gabe. Choise did not matter since where is no reprocusion where is no point to hate safi since nothing happened she cant control her self and is spoiled bitch that is self centered such as rachel what a suprise
@@BTbenTR Right?! Like from even the first game, Max has always been super cautious about using her powers. Accepting Safi is so out of character for Max it shouldn’t even be an option
Bro that girl is crazy 😂😂 I mean taking the form of a father and telling the son "me and your mom broke up because of you" that is so fucked up Like the kid had nothing to do with your problems what were you thinking 😂 So if sofi had no good relationship with her parents all kids should be like that for her to be happy 😂 Sofi really needs help and no not the kind of help that max can provide she needs some real mental help
The Alderman plot was CRAZY. Like Max was literally culpable in erasing a whole man from reality and then it just never comes up again?? The game doesn't even show how the guy who was investigating Safis murder STRAIGHT UP VANISHING INTO THIN AIR affected reality???? They only use it so Max has a reason to be scared to touch her "double" later on but thats IT! It's like the writers just actually forgot
Reading this makes me think that wouldn't it have been cool if *that* was the actual reason that the storm happens? And making safi's death or powers mislead us at first then it turns out that the death/erasure of this one single man caused some sort of paradox and THATS what brings upon the tempest. It'll also go to show how we can't and shouldn't dismiss any choice we make-- which technically has always been the point of LIS games
Yeah Alderman actually had the potential to be a good villian type character throughout the whole game. The only additional context you get is a few text messages with Moses.
HELPP I FULLY AGREE ON THIS! I was so sad at the end about the way they started setting up a whole super hero universe or whatever the heck that was. It just feels like they didnt quite understand the message behind the first game.
Well it makes sense cause in the games, people were getting different types of powers due to their emotional traumas being the triggers so atleast they set up that aspect of superheroes and so on. Though the execution makes it questionable because in the previous games there wasn't a clear link and they just put it in this game
@@TreyGarlic-mr7ut I mean yeah, I see your point. Its just that these powers havent been at one place so very often. For example in LIS 2 Sean and Daniel travelled through so many states and havent met one person with powers. And now apparently there are three at one campus... you know?
I genuinely just pray to god they leave Daniel and Alex out of it. The damage is done for Max and the rest of the universe as a whole by randomly plopping 2 supes in one location but I'm *really* hoping they at the very least keep the other protags away. I don't mind some cameos from side characters but I think I'll actually scream if I see Safi heading toward Beaver Creek/Puerto Lobos or Haven Springs.
I saw a video by another RUclipsr and I was disappointed that their review was basically just where’s Chloe and Safi is a bad character because she’s selfish. I feel like a character’s negative personality trait isn’t a bad thing in itself unless the game doesn’t treat it accordingly. what makes Safi’s selfishness bad is that she doesn’t get consequences for what she did and hasn’t learned anything in the end. She hurt so many people with her powers and now she wants to use her powers even more
@@Drawin-Circlesnot everyone picked that ending as their ending. In life is strange 2 they it so both are canon depending on the one you pick. Then in this game you also pick which one you did in the first one. She can’t play a role due to that fact
@@Vextral4653 They could have made one ending canon. I understand that they made both canon, but the ending of LiS 1 has so little impact on the other game (literally just a few scenes) that it would have been better to just roll with the one where Chloe lives. I'd much prefer that instead of what we got now.
Even the writer of the LIS1 tweeted that his characters and story were being misused… that should tell you that this game is really not going in the right way.
My biggest problems were: I didn't feel any connection with the characters who were supposed to be Max's best friends, didn't care for them at al. And I thought it was going to be about Safi's murder specifically, but turned out to be about why Maya offed herself, which was all very anticlimatic for me.
Another plot point that was lost along the way, the female podcaster/reporter story would just disappear and then she would re-appear for a scene and gone again. The whole game felt like it had different writers for chapters (or even parts of chapters) and it’s hard to create a cohesive narrative throughout a game when you do that.
I actually liked Loretta as she started out very unlikeable but changed as the game went on. Towards the end when Safi turns into Loretta I hadn't interacted with Loretta for ages and she wasn't even there that evening even though there was supposed to be a big announcement made. Where was she? Would have been so much better to incorporate the danger of the person she's impersonating also being there.
Well the First Layoff at Decknine Games got rid of the first part of the Developers working on this Game & the Second Layoff got rid of the Rest. So yes you could say well they fired the wrong Developers. The Game had 3 writers you can guess why from reading the first line.
I think another glaring issue is that in the first LiS they were not afraid to push boundaries and discuss difficult topics. The video of Kate and how you have to try to stop her from unaliving herself. The entire Jefferson plotline. Even the scene at the vortex party where there are girls passed out and no one is doing anything. Having to decide to let your best friend die or your town with her entire family and your friends. They edited that down so much in this one and they are supposed to be ADULTS. Real life is hard and the game was not afraid to tackle these issues and then in this one maybe they say a bad word here and there. The murder which was the foundation for all of the advertising for this game wasn’t even real and seems like it had no implications in the end which is not what these games are about. So sad because they had such a good foundation to work with and one of the best video game characters ever and instead just stole ideas from other entities and made a real mess of things. (Moses was the best addition to this game tho. Love him)
Yeah at the end of the game I was like, but who killed Safi now?? It's not even that the murder was faked, they just completely yadda yadda out of the murder altogether
@@c-mo313 They very clearly did not care about that or they wouldn't have broken up the most popular core LGBT couple in the franchise. They only care about patting themselves on the back and making corporate friendly characters that aren't going to do much of anything.
We can all blame square enix for this since d9 we’re prolly pressured into making de. It’s extremely disappointing that lis doesn’t have its themes anymore. Lis is gonna turn into marvel rivals soon 😂
I think the issue with this game is that choices didn't really matter like it did in the first game. In LiS there were actual consequences of your actions (ex. Kate's death) and exploring the world was much more fun. You can't even choose a love interest, the writers obviously intended for it to be Amanda. It seems to me that they added some stuff just to be a parallel to the first game, like Lucas being a parallel to Jefferson, Vinh being a parallel to Nathan, Alderman being a parallel to David, Maya being a parallel to Rachel, the whole Abraxas club or whatever was just Vortex Club repurposed, plus Loretta was giving temu-Victoria (not quite a parallel, but still). In the end, none of it mattered in the slightest. Vinh didn't do shit, he smashed Safi's car window, now what? Nothing. The Abraxas club went to nothing. Alderman became nothing. Lucas plotline did nothing for me because I didn't give a shit about Maya. Oh, don't get me started on Maya. What was her purpose? Other than just being a thing Safi and Vinh are sad about. LITERALLY NOTHING!!! The only good part of this game was the amazing fluffball that is Moses, other than that, meh. Safi's actions just seemed irrational and purposeless to me, especially what she did to Lucas's son, like? In the end we didn't even completely get how Yasmin betrayed Safi, yes, she cancelled her book, but did that truly mean so much that Safi literally merged two timelines and held everyone hostage in her weird mind jumbo? In the end, nothing we did really mattered. You can't choose a relationship, you kissed Amanda and Vinh, now what? nOTHING. (Reggie and Vinh relationship implications were stupid asf too! AND Amanda saying almost the same exact thing if you kiss Vinh in front of her.) You can't join Abraxas or anything, or literally do anything out of the path the game carved for you. I am curious what other people think about this.
Couldn‘t have said it better myself! I 100% agree with you and I‘m so happy to read all these comments with people having the same thoughts as me! I thought I‘m loosing my mind because there were so many good reviews and a lot of people liked the game and I was just confused about how any sane person could not see how badly this game is
The way the two timelines merged was just underwhelming, it really made no sense, they should've just made the player decide which reality they wanted to live in - the dead world or the living world, even the Safi going full on villain plot could've worked if they executed it better - you either choose to let her live and destroy the town, or go back and do what happened in the beginning, but save everyone (accidentally had the same idea as the guy in the video, guess I'm not the only one who thought about it) ...but it'd still be mediocre as the game indeed is just full of parallels to LiS1, basically a copy that doesn't really feel original, even that choice would be 1:1 like LiS, they really shot themselves in the foot with this game
Great video and well expressed. I was one of those people who did not have a clue what the "Accept" or "Refuse" choice was all about. I was so lost at that point. I didn't even think the storm, or all of the characters becoming possessed by Safi were real at first, I thought it was all a "nightmare" sequence and was ready for it to hurry up and end so we could get on with the rest of the game. Made absolutely no sense, compounded by stopping the storm by.... walking into it from the Overlook???? 😭😭Just a complete insult to the original game's final choice. Thought I'd had a stroke or something when the credits rolled. Genuinely don't know WTF I just sat through. Makes it so much more frustrating when the technical workflows they established enabled the creation of some of the best cinematography, acting, performances, facial mocap in a video game EVER in my opinion and I really don't think that's hyperbolic. This is the first time I've ever feared for the franchise as I really don't know how they move forward from here. With Bae/Bay barely resolved/explored/explained, timelines merging, loads of characters know about the powers, more characters have powers... just a mess. 1. Why does Safi SHOOT her Mother?? I get cancelling her book and covering up Maya's death is (very) messed up but SHOOTING her is totally unrealistic and not the Safi we met in the earlier episodes. And then it's barely reacted to or questioned, even by Yasmin. 2. How does Alderman see himself in the other timeline when he wouldn't even be there in the living world? And if he's just a "past version of the dead world", how and why, and is there any other instances of this during the whole game where a character can see a PAST VERSION OF THEMSELVES i.e. NOT their timeline equivalent OR Safi doppelganger? 3. Why does no one ever question what happened to Alderman? Max and Moses weren't the only ones who met him. He'd spoken with Yasmin as well. 4. How was Safi just instantly fine after nearly drowning in a frozen lake 5. Why would Vinh throw a cow skull into Safi's car to make Safi angry at Lucas? 6. Why was Gwen such a pushover with Yasmin/Lucas when it was so out of character? Why does everyone protect Lucas? Because the school would get a bad reputation for covering it up? Well why did they cover it up in the first place??? 7. How did Safi actually get shot? There was a version of Max that shot Safi to prevent the storm, but when our playable Max reached this moment, she changed her mind and walked into the storm?? Is that correct?? 8. WHY IS THERE EVEN A STORM?? How did they misunderstand the first game so badly? 9. The lack of reaction from anyone in the game is insane. Alderman gets zapped from existence and Max and Moses were like "I hope that doesn't happen again". At the end of the game when the characters have been possessed by Safi and witnessed a freak storm with double blood moons and teleported to random bowling alleys and they're just like "well what a bad storm that was!" 10. Why doesn't Max get affected by Safi when everyone else does? And why is there only one Max? 11. How does Gwen (Safi) get caught by CCTV when we learn in Chapter 5 to photograph people to figure out its Safi? 12. What are the Polaroids? A third timeline? Or multiple timelines? Any actual significance to the story or just meaningless collectibles? 13. What were the flowers that grew around Safi's body all about? 14. Why have they added a pay wall to 10 minutes of a CAT? There's so much more as well but I'm tired and realise I've written more in your comment section than Deck Nine did for Chloe and their whole "breakup" saga 😩
The part where Max shot Safi is what was suppose to Happen until Max again says No. We didn't have a Choice there was No way this was going to End where Safi is Dead. 6, The whole school Covered it up. Why No one knows. Sad part is this is most of these Questions. Blaming Decknine for this is the Dumb part this as Square-Enix Execs written all over it. Square Enix Exec's FF16 will be the Best FF Game ever. Game Bombed on PS5 & PC. Yeah Best FF Game ever. At least it was a Better Forspoken. Some Where in Square-Enix HQ is the Very Best Exec's Ever.
Nobody mentioned Alderman other than Max and Moses is because he got removed from their memories when he disappeared. But since Moses and Max saw him disappear they still remember him. Though Max should've researched Alderman in the living timeline too to see if he's alive there or not, even though there's no case for him to be assigned to, not just " oh he's not alive in the dead timeline, oh well, anyway ". I'm so sad he's gone
Also where is other MAX AND SAFI ? I COMPELETLY LOST WHOLE PLOT. They have to hire detective something like that lol. While they are writing someone has to keep asking why why why why why why why. Other than as we can see huge BLANKS occur in the plot
Yes! When we met second Max, I really thought that she's the Max from the future and the "living world version" of her that actually shot the og Safi and knows more about what happened but choose to hide it from our Max for some reason. I always question about why Max is the only person who doesn't have other version of her when everyone clearly do?
My issue was how they completely reversed Chloe's attitude towards Max's powers. In the letter or text she accused us/Max of living in the past and never moving forward Im sorry did the first game not happen? Chloe was CEMENTED in the past when it came to Rachel. Always bringing her up, tried pushing us to do things because Rachel would have done it, we even wear the bi+++'s clothes at one point Even at the end she says the storm was "Rachel's storm, our Storm" But in this game Chloe has all of a sudden shifted her attitude and now it's Max who can't move on from the past? We reversed her death, solved the disappearance of the girl she wouldn't shut the hell up about, sorry if in one timeline we let a town of people we barely know and only manipulated time to get to know, die but the game had us invest all that time hanging with Chloe, for us to let her die and save a town of people that stood there when Kate tried to kill herself and barely acknowledged Max until literal magic intervened
Thank you for mentioning Alderman's plot hole. Bruh no one else cares and it's sad to see the biggest antagonist of the first half of the game is gone in the blink of a eye and no one cares. A text from Moses explains that he got erased from existence. Which means TIME PARADOX. Which causes an even bigger problem with the powers now. Some say he got erased due to the merging of the time lines. Who's is hinted at by the light near the overlook turning red and blue which remains consistent until the merging is fully over. But my problem with this is the dialogue between Max and Moses saying that this is a ghostly apparition/time shifted version of alderman from the dead timeline. In fact since there are no murders there is no reason to have a Alderman on the living timeline. This whole plotline was botched and lazy.
U do realize hes a detective right? He would still exist in other time lines just not investigating a murder. He got erased from existence means all time. They found out what they could, nobody at the job ever hired anyone by that name, his own mom never had the kid but he would've been named his name. Wtf else are they supposed to do? We dont even know if the version he touched was his living timeline self or another timeline. W.e it was when they touched it erased his ass from reality & made all but Max & Mo forget him as he was. This will likely be something we see happen in another game. Thats y its only little blips currently & 1 fatality but whos to say we dont see this shit pop up in True Colors 2 or with some other protagonist. Let them fucking cook. If nothing comes from it in a following game its an issue currently its not.
@LordNexusTheFir "let them cook" a lazy and easy out for an obviously botched and bad story. I will not let them cook becsuse so far they are under seasoning and cooking rotten meat
There's never anything in the story to suggest aldermen in the living timeline is there to investigate though. This could've been fixed with a simple rewrite to.@@LordNexusTheFir
There are many other dropped things too: - Secret student society - Loretta's podcasts - Reggie seing himself in the dead timeline - Who called Safi and why was she so disturbed? - Who takes the polaroid pictures and how do they get into current two timelines? I also don't get why were we supposed to care about Maya so much, that we are being so invested into exposing Lucas with Safi?
The joke was good but in true colors didnt she, basically influence/manipulate quite violently the emotions of the antagonist at the end ? Its been quite a while since ive played the game but from what i can remember the "bad guy" was quite traumatized by the experience. People like to say that Alex's powers are lame compared to Daniel's or Max's, but driving an enemy into madness by shreding his emotions or overwhelm him with fake ones sounds pretty powerful/terrifying if you ask me !
The previous LIS entries were about interesting people that happened to have powers; this one was all about the powers. True Colours remain my favourite.
True Colours is my second fav. life is strange game, but i am gonna be real with you, to me personally that bar isnt very high... i didnt like the main character, she was such a mouthbreather. way to many scenarios where i wanted to do so much other things then what the game forced me to choose from. Life is Strange 1 stays right on top to me, then true colours and then all the others.
it's kinda funny how they made a big decision out of whether you help alderman or not when he's getting sucked into oblivion, with the "this action will have consequences", and then the only conseqence is that moses gets a gray streak in his hair
Speaking for myself mostly but I think a lot of people sided with Safi because we’re afraid of her and don’t want her to be against us when she gets back 😂
I think the main issue with Vinh is that he is so underdeveloped despite having the foundation of being a well-written character. What I mean is that I thinl D9 wanted Vinh to be the sympathetic character who is really sensitive and insecure, yet uses his acting skills to be this macho alpha male character. However, it doesn't work because we don't spend enough time to bond with Vinh to understand his character more. The whole cow skull thing with Vinh doesn't make much sense, especially how it was supposed to protect Safi from Yasmin. What?
The theory is that square enix forced them to also add a straight romance interest in the later stages of game development. Vinh was supposed to be an unlikeable and sketchy character, since you were supposed to think he could be behind the murder. However a love interest can't be just that, so they made him more likeable and thus we were left with an unfinished character that neither fits as love interest nor as suspect. Also they basically had to go with Vinh, because otherwise we dont get to spend much time with any other male characters other than Moses and maybe Lucas
Ehh, Vinh’s character actually makes a lot more sense when you replay the game as a lot of his scenes are recontexualized once you realize that the Dead World version of him is broken up over Safi’s death (he’s still hung up over her.)
@@mal3nkoNo it makes even less sense because why would he be trying to seduce the best friend of the girl he loved who died two fucking days ago? That shit is weird man. Playing "smash or pass" and suggesting the MOTHER of the girl he loved again just a few days after her death is asinine. Don't feel obligated to defend dogshit writing, please for the love of God.
@mal3nko I am well aware, hence my previous comment - I don't need to play the game again. As mentioned in my previous comment, Vinh had the potential to be a well-developed character in Double Exposure, given the foundation D9 laid (pun not intended) upon the character. To clarify, Vinh is written as someone who not only still had feelings for Safi (with the hedgehog statue he gotten from her,) but clues that his frat boy personality was a mask to hide his more sensitive and insecure side; at the start of the game, Vinh was the president of Abraxius despite not being a student. This insecurity likely stemmed from Vinh being from a poor background where people looked down on him, resulting in him not only worked his way up to Abraxous for respect, but also "selling out" Maya for a secure job. Additionally, Vinh is someone who loves acting, and aside from his acting award on his desk, he applied for acting jobs in the Bay Area (Northern California). The problem is that D9 didn't explore this direction for Vinh further. Rather, they focused more on Vinh's frat boy behavior with the dumb smash or pass game. This is why a LOT OF PEOPLE felt that Vinh was a good romance option to Max. In my opinion, it isn't so much about Vinh being "bad" with flaws, it is just that we, the players, don't get a lot of personal moments with Vinh - the only time is when you sit with a drunk Vinh on the couch at the dead world. The thing that most people tend to forget is how Chloe's portrayal in LIS1, where she comes off as an asshole when you first meet her. However, LIS1 has multiple moments where Max and Chloe bond with one another. These bonding moments are important in LIS1 because they allow the player to understand Chloe better, and therefore not wanting to sacrifice her at the end of the game. Like Vinh, Chloe's gruffness was a shield to hide her vulnerable self. Unlike Vinh, Chloe had abandonment issues due to losing not only William but Rachel and Max (who moved to Seattle prior to the events of LIS1). As such, Vinh had great potential to show the audience that he was something more than a f**k Boi, but D9 dropped the ball; because how D9 didn't focus on Vinh's vulnerable, most people overlooked it. I felt more moments of him being vulnerable and opening up to Max for some gamers to be able to sympathize with him more. This is a common issue with D9 is they start characters and plot points well but fumbles the ball at the end - they dont seem to be able to stick to it. Hopefully, D9 fleshes out Vinh in the next LIS game.
It makes no sense from the start. How can Max barely remember and care about what happened in Arcadia Bay. It feels like an insult to the fans AND the series.
MaX-Men: Origins. Welcome to Professor Caulfield's School for Gifted Youngsters. I loved how they revisited the final decision in LiS1 where Max has to decide between a storm destroying the town and her friend's death and chooses the third option: To walk off a cliff and become the cow from Twister.
What was the point of the side characters they barely had lines/ scenes and it felt forced and random to kiss them..? Yes I am talking about two particular side characters. Such a mess.
Because they needed to shove in romance options after Chloe and Warren were forgotten, better yet as an distraction for the Chloe shipers "heres another lesbian romance option that is very outgoing and direct!"
@@delimeloneIt’s been a while since I last played LiS but wasn’t it an option to use the old cast and do something new with them? Chloe, her parents, Warren … Why were they just forgotten?
@@c.s2193 : They clearly didn't want to deal with the issue of Chloe and other characters being alive and dead in different timelines (based on your final choice in the first game, and also whether or not you managed to save Kate), and apparently there's bad blood between Deck Nine and Chloe's voice actor.
@@DaveLHLess between Deck Nine (the game developers) and Ashly Burch, and more between Square Enix (the parent/publishing company) and Ashly Burch. Burch participated in a strike and of course the higher-ups were Big Mad about that
@@DaveLH I'm assuming you mean Chloe's original voice actor. Even if the bad blood thing is true, there was already a perfectly good other Chloe voice actor that they ACTUALLY used in this game to re-record some of dialogue from the first game and had previously been the primary Chloe of Before the Storm. Yeah, the not wanting to deal with characters being alive and dead was definitely their primary reason for not having any in the game properly (and for screwing with their characterization enough that none of them directly contact Max for the majority of the game).
I despise this game with every fiber of my being. Hannah is wonderful, the music is great, and Moses is very likeable. The rest is so far removed from Life is Strange that you can just write it off as a bizarre nightmare.
You know D9 hates Chloe when they make it a plot point that she gets with Victoria. Like bruh. I'm so glad I didn't buy this slop, spent my money on The Outlast Trials instead.
Max is supposed to be an adult but acts like how she was in the first game. Safi acts like a victim the whole time but proceeds to try ruining others people’s livelihood. She’s gets mad that her mother prevented her from seeing her father and proceeds to ruin Lucas’s relationship with his son. She had her power since highschool so why didn’t she do anything for her best friend for life or attempt anything. We’re supposed to like her but there’s plenty of reasons to NOT like her
Which doesn’t make sense because Safi uses her mother's last name in the manuscript instead of only her fathers or both. Which suggested me that she didn't like him, but apparently?
Safi is the EXACT copy of Chloe, everything is about her and has the exact same attitude and behavior, omg this is so sad i wish they could've let her be her own persona instead of the same old book again
Im guilty of this 😅I lost the plot and didnt think Safi was evil, I really thought this was more "im not leaving you as a friend and I will help you through this when you get back" wasnt until I started seeing peoples thought I realized shit she is an evil person she turned evil ah wtf why did I choose to agree with her
@@andy12345mge yes, I was confused as hell as well. I thought that I might have to stick to her so that she didn't descends into madness even further? The last chapters were all over the place and really lost track was the point anymore :D but I still felt entertained tbh 🙈🙈
Couldn't have said it better myself. This game had so much potential but deck nine never understood what truly made lis so good. This game is not just poorly written. Its empty and has no personality.
I still have no idea why max killed safi. They did that whole reveal with the photo and it genuinely, just never got explained. Moses got convinced in 2 seconds that we didn’t actually kill her, alderman disappears. I had no idea what I was playing 😭
In the first LiS you had horrible consequences after abusing your powers. In this LiS you don’t have it anymore. Literally nothing bad happens, meaning that earlier Chloe/Arcadia died for no reason. We went INTO the storm, saw some hallucinations and fixed everything. Everybody is alive and happy, we just had to do some silly photos with Max’s camera. Max tells Safi “there’s always a price” but she just showed us, there’s no price at all. According to this logic, we should now come back in time, save Chloe and fix everything the same way 🤨 what the hell is going on..
Tbh I personally liked that max didn’t have to choose between saving caledon or saving safi because it would just be a repeat of the first game’s ending. Plus finding out max shot safi is a very cool part of the game which wouldn’t work if she wasn’t originally forced to choose between saving Caledon university or safi. It also felt like the most satisfying ending to me that ‘she isn’t going choose between two miserable realities’ because she’s shown to be impacted by sacrificing Arcadia bay/ Chloe and we know how miserable safi’s dead world timeline is. But the way it was executed, the whole everyone gets away without consequences like you said doesn’t work either. I feel like it would be very hard to write this game to make all the plot lines and ideas fit together perfectly.
Disagree, i think the reason why things goes well in this LiS is because max has grow up, she makes better decisions, she's an adult that knows better. Repeating the same plot would warrant complaints from LiS fans, this way it shows how different Max has improved
@@cheeryberrie but how exactly are her decisions better now? she uses her new powers during the whole game in order to sniff around just as before😂 I agree that repeating the whole plot would be bad but now it is bad as well
@@clayr.w1829 I also don't want Max to suffer, but after first LiS this one lacks provocative drama. It could be with a good ending! but I expect drama😂they didn't even cover the issue with Maya well, in the end nobody really cared
I used to think Decknine was great at handling romances for characters but idk wtf happened with this game. Not only do they separate Chloe from Max if you saved her but Amanda and esp Vinh's romances were so awkward and felt creepy. Like the Max we know from LIS1 would never go for someone like him
I agree -- I enthusiastically cheer in "True Colors" when Alex kisses Steph. But Max and Amanda kissing just left me cold. Bottom line, whatever faults it may have, I truly care about the NPC characters in "True Colors" (especially Steph) but not in DE... Except, as others have said, Moses, but he, regrettably, is not a romance option.
The game itself is a huge problem. It’s telling other game studios that it’s ok to nearly completely replace your original audience with a new one. Deck nine is such a mediocre studio. I wish DONTNOD would come back…
So there's one big question that I haven't really seen brought up: Where was Living World Max? The two timelines had two versions of everyone so there should have been an alternate Max. We know one must exist, because when she first goes to the Living World her counterpart seems to have made different plans to her. And Max herself seems to think there should be one from the way she reacts when she sees Safi-Max. I think we're supposed to believe that there's only one Max, and that by being able to access both timelines she can also exist in both and that she's the reason for the split in the first place. But that doesn't really make sense and just makes the whole thing a paradox. In the first two chapters I was fully expecting to find out that Alternate Max was behind everything, and that was going to be the antagonist. It could have been a version of Max that didn't give up her rewind power, which might then explain why the timelines are splitting. It feels almost like that was what they were planning, and then they decided to throw in the Safi shapeshifter at the last second to surprise the audience, and from there it all falls apart.
Yeah that makes absolutely no sense, there has to be a second Max, otherwise the whole logic of the parallel timeline collapses. At first I thought they might swap places, but that doesn't make sense either because then Max would appear at different locations in the world (depending on where the other Max is at the time) and, above all, there would then be a completely different version of Max who has a completely different level of knowledge. That would mean that things happen to her that our version of Max knows nothing about. But there is no sign of this at all. Maybe it's a brilliant move and everything will be cleared up in the next game, but I think the story has gone completely off the rails and the writers themselves had no idea what they were doing.
Dropped plot lines, that were interesting to me, but were dumbed-down by the end of the game: - Secret student society - Loretta's podcasts - Reggie seing himself in the dead timeline - Who called Safi and why was she so disturbed? - Who takes all the polaroid pictures and how do they get into current two timelines? - What led Yasmin to cancel Safi's book? We haven't gotten any clues. I also don't get why were we supposed to care about Maya that much, to be so invested into exposing Lucas? Safi just revealed herself as a damn sociopath, broke into Max's home and destoryed her belongins, but we for some reason suddenly really want to help her out with that thing with Maya. We don't even know enough about Maya to feel that attached at least to her in this whole situation. The ending of the game was also cringe and over the top. The cringiest moment was Max giving a speech in the bar telling that "what comes is gonna be difficult, but we are going to be strong" or whatever. Like girlll, nooo.... Is it really Life is Strange or a Marvel movie from Temu? I think, that was the last Life is Strange game for me, personally. We should just let this game series go and slowly die off.
I will say for the choice to "join or reject" Saf the only one that makes sense is to say yes. She's dangerous and her mental health is severely messed up. Staying in her good graces means you can potentially talk her down later as a trusted friend rather than being the target of someone who can literally show up as anyone in your life. Imagine not knowing if your dentist, the person bagging your groceries, your own parents visiting you for a weekend is a doppelganger or the genuine person.
That’s why I picked join! I wasn’t trying to agree w safi but going against her.. I didn’t see how that would do much good. I too hope max can be “involved” but more of the person of reason, to like you said, hopefully talk her down in the future. But I totally understand why ppl would reject too
Really wanted to love this game cause they brought Max back but it seems they couldn’t bring the magic back. The writing in this game is atrocious for both the characters (except King Moses) and the story. This is arguably the worst game in the series. We need Dontnod back cause what is Deck Nine doing bro…….
I loved Safi in the first three chapters, then found her genuinely despicable and scum in the last two. A sick individual who wants to act like a victim, but ruined so many other lives for what? Just to not feel sorry. Such a crappy way to ruin a character. I felt horrible for Gwen and Lucas's son. Every other character was stale or shitty.
God, it just makes me angry. She gets to get a trans woman fired from her job, she gets to terrify a poor child, and then she gets to escape all of it consequences-free? And there's so much worse. I hated this, such a horrific game and a more horrific character.
The thing that bothers me are the characters and the choices in the first game all the characters were well written especially Chloe and her character was good it made you like her more as the game went on and made the last choice very difficult but in this none of the characters have enough screen time and safi was made into a villain and we didn't seem to like her if it would have given me the choice of shoot her or not I would have Another thing is the choices in the first game choices actually mattered if you didn't make the right choice Kate will die your choices will decide if Victoria will end up with you in the dark room but in this choices just make the conversation and the character's behaviour different nothing more
i can tell you this, not a lot of things mattered, it was only big decisions, but maybe for lis 2 for example they would have all TYPES of choice that would matter, a basic or simple choice that u make about someone affects your relationship with them, and you even get to shape another character of how you treat them and teach them things, its all so cool, i just wanted to use lis 2 as an example cuz this is the game that has the best choices and stuff like i just wanted to put that out there 😂
The thing with Safi is that she wanted revenge for what Yasmin, Vinh, & Lucas did to her & Maya. The problem tho is that it wasn't executed well because we didn't spend more time with her. The hints were there after she died, but not enough when she was alive. It would've been better to have more scenes with Safi, & after hints about her shapeshifing powers happen, Max's powers starts coming back, & then she gets killed.
The writing on the wall was right there in the beginning, when they character assassinated Chloe just to create an unrealistic breakup... That showed that they cannot properly understand characters or the themes of the first game.
Wanted to clarify, the texts say that alderman doesnt exist. nobody remembers him and the texts are changed. the police rule safis death as a suicide due to him never being there. he never existed and nobody remembers him but max and moses
My problem with the game is all the forgotten plots and the fact the story completely change from a "who done it" to a "fk you Lucas". Not to mention the fact that Safi had powers since high-school and only decided (after almost wiping out a city) that she should abuse her powers more. Max never once asked where her Alternate timeline self was and what she was doing. This is why I don't particularly like when time travel is introduced especially if they weren't gonna do it right. Also not to mention Alderman found his past self and Erased himself from existence and they never touched on and never talked about it again. There's also characters like Diamond that just seems to hate you for no reason at some point I wanna rant so much more but it'll be too long
I'm glad someone else noticed Diamond hating you for no reason. I noticed lots of dialogue that felt like a complete jump in attitude considering the context. For this reason I genuinely believe that the game was supposed to have atleast 2-3 more chapters that were cut, that would explain plenty of other things wrong with the game too.
Its a meh myster thriller that completely disregards the first game and takes a nose dive into nonsensicsl territory by the later epiosodes. Theres no reason for max to be back. Theres nothing that builds on any ideas or themes from the first game. Theres no reason this should be called Life is Strange. Theres no reason this should even exist.
I didn't get the plot reveal where Gwen learns that Max went though her emails. Does that exist? I figured that Gwen assumed that Yasmin revealed it to her, since they are close. The Alderman plotline is solely to move the story forward and explain the issue of encountering yourself in the timeline. It's playing off the theory that you cannot exist in the same line with yourself. He gets erased completely. Moses reveals that. There isn't even a record of his birth. This would have made more sense if the game was longer and could explore it more. Safi at the very end was my trouble spot with the plot ( as well as the hints at the third timeline with no resolution). Diamond having powers is not a deal breaker for me, as LIS is about multiple people with powers, Max, Daniel, Alex, Safi, some kid in the comic releasing in December. I have always wanted the characters with powers to meet. The problem is the 5 episode format...the story they were trying to tell was grander than the time allotted. The game needed to be longer. Instead the ending felt forced like a YA novel series.
i feel like also interacting with just 12 characters through the whole series was just not it for $50 while the first LIS is like we can interact with everyone.
It would have been awesome to see Max actually teaching a class in the opening scene and the killer would be one of her students talking that she calls out in front of the class. That would have been a nice similarity to the original game.
I feel like the biggest narrative pitfall they fell into was making Safi and Max friends before the murder. Max and Chloe's relationship worked because it was starting anew again... sure, they had history together from when they were kids but they were largely meeting each other all over again. I feel like the mystery would be far more investing if Max never knew Safi before discovering her body... and when entering into the Alive Timeline, her mission wouldn't just be preventing the same murder... but also getting to know the victim first hand. So essentially, I think Maya Okada should've been replaced with Safi, in a way. In the dead world, Max would try to track down the murderer... but the Alive world, she's tracking down the victim and getting to know her. The reveal that Safi also has powers (which imo was an amazing twist and could've led to a great story, but they forgot to make Safi into a villain) would've been swallowed far easier if they're meeting for the first time. I do think that Safi should've been the main villain from the get go. The "bond" she had with Max did not click with me at all. Max should've just been the "new girl" at Caledon, and her first encounter with Safi would be finding her body. Then the choice at the end would be clear. Either Max shoots Safi to save Caledon or Max tries to save Safi but she shoots herself. Either way, Safi shouldn't have survived this story. It makes WAY MORE SENSE for Max to make it her mission to find other people with powers at the end of the game... which, that alone is sequel bait-y enough. We did NOT need that post credits scene. I'm excited for the future prospect of Max meeting Sean Diaz... Life is Strange 2 could've been a masterpiece but it's last 2 chapters were terrible.... but Sean? He deserves a better ending. Actual real redemption that I fully believe Max could give him. So people who are worried about these characters meeting and becoming "X-men" or whatever? Ya'll are boring lol why not let these characters meet? Alex too, that would be awesome! TL;DR: I think Deck Nine writing Max and Safi to be close friends was the choice that ruined the story. The story should've had a clear antagonist in Safi, but the writers seemed to put too much focus on their friendship when the mysteries deserved more attention. Max should've been the one to set out to find others with powers at the end of the game. I think Deck Nine is far too committed to the 5-chapter format... if they really wanted Safi to be Max's friend who develops into a villain, she frankly needed more time for that change to happen. But overall, I liked the twist that Safi was a shapeshifter. I always wanted Max to discover somebody else with powers, and I think it would be a perfect way for her to confront her trauma with Chloe and her larger purpose at the same time.
How would Max meeting Sean even work? They'd have to force an ending on the players again, only this time it's even worse since there's 4 different ones
@@xxyzxxyz690 The thing is ,we cannonly know what happens to Sean and Daniel after the events of the border over the past 6 or 15 years depending on the ending. Not to forget we have a possible dead or inprisoned Sean and an evil or good Daniel, who either lives in Puerto lobos or with his grandparents.
@@lariel19So...they'd have to choose an ending like the person above you said. Cause no fuckin way is Max traveling to Mexico to recruit a little boy who's gone drunk with power.
14:15 THANK YOU SO MUCH for pointing that out. I was absolutely confused as well. I followed the story and realized what Safi was saying and I couldn’t go along with it, she was abusing her powers and was basically having a “Magneto” type of moment. Max would NEVER go along with that especially after everything that happened in the first game and if you chose the Sacrifice Arcadia Bay ending, she said it herself in Chapter 5, she’s not that same 18 y/o girl from Blackwell, she LEARNED that these types of powers are too dangerous. So when I saw more people accepted Safi over rejecting her ideas I was like…”What???” Like…you all do realize what she was talking about right? She wants to use her abilities like a toy and only for selfish reasons, not giving a damn what more harm than good it would do, it wouldn’t do any good at all. It would make a lot more sense for Max to REJECT her, she learned the hard way how much damage her abilities created, she wouldn’t stoop to Safi’s level.
As soon as the parallel universe mechanic was revealed I was SURE the very last choice would be something like to either stay in the dead world with moses griefing or go to the living world knowing u just ran away again and leaving Moses behind. I cant believe what tf I just witnessed ingame though..
I just finished the game last night and man was it something else. I've chosen to accept Safi's offer so Max can guide her and help her learn from Max mistake. Also Max can teach her how to control her power and not be reckless. From Safi's pov it looks like we get an Avengers/X-Men vibe with all the people who have super powers like Daniel and Alex. Fun fact: One person jokingly said that they should create a LIS game where they bring in the protagonist who have super powers when I try to debate Max's current age. I was confused about Diamond's super power cuz she just cough up blood and Safi approach her. I think Deck Nine are purposely setting it up LIS: X-MEN/AVENGERS edition cuz we know that each protag have a super power. The 'MAX WILL RETURN' was the cherry on top of it being an MCU vibe. I enjoyed the story but omg did I hate Vinh. I would rather have Max romance a returning Warren cuz he was at least a cool dude who actually listens to Max. Vinh feels characterless and try to make Max not Max. I hate that he's a romance option and is a trophy achievement, but I will get that platinum.
The 4th chapter was still fine (although I really don’t like safi having powers) but the 5th just felt wrong, I feel like it would’ve been better if you actually shot safi…
My exact words at the end we're what kind of mcu bs is this. I had heard the rumors about Safi having shapeshifting powers before episode 3 came out and I was really hoping they weren't true. This game deserves so much better. I had suspected something was weird with Yasmine since chapter 2. I would have much rather unraveled the mystery in the last 2 chapters
fr I wish they’d kept the detective and made safi a more prominent character and introduced her powers earlier AND THEN the powers take over her morals so firstly they’d work together to solve the murder mystery so then max can have a motive to properly confront safi when she 180°d her personality idk
Exactly how I felt! I had no expectations whatsoever and never wanted Max to return. But the game grew on me so much, even got excited after chapter 3. All that just for chapter 4+5 to dunk on the LiS legacy the exact same way I feared since the announcement...
I will also add on to say that charging £15 for a tiny bit of cat content that locks a few trophies behind this paywall, is borderline criminal for how much they're charging here.
this game had so many issues, to be honest i dont really even see this as a life is strange game, it doe snot have that same story/character connection, the game goes by fast, the choices dont really have a huge effect in this game, just being honest, they kill safi off so fast i didnt like feel sad or really even confused, i mean we broke into some old place and hung out on a roof of a bar, the story was beyond confusing and very messy, the disappearance of the Agent had no effect on the story accept for the fact that it took away from the story like, it made the game shorter or whatever, personally my game had like a hundred different bugs/glitches. if i had to rate the game id give it like a "fine" tier so maybe C-D. its definitely not a good or great game, but its not entirely awful, i am glad that max has had some character development though, im happy to see her new powers, and i wish i could say i was excited for the DLC, or new game but my hopes arent to high, i know not even life is strange true colors was all that great, so people say, but id put that on top of this game honestly.
I completely agree with you! I played it through and was confused the entire time bc I was focusing on plot points that just- never get brought up again
I absolutely relate and agree with everything you said. Especially the part with, you wanted to like the game, but it didn't want to like you, considering the greatness the first 3 chapters provided and the garbage they gave us with the final 2.
I only finished the game today and saw this video recommendation and i gotta say i completely agree! I really enjoyed playing it in the beginning, the murder mystery was so much fun aswell as figuring out the new powers but my problem was that i didn't even care about safi that much. I couldn't get a connection with her as we didn't have much time with safi and max at the start. Which means i wasn't feeling too bad about her death so as soon as safi turned evil i was like, now i know why you had to die but then we never found out why she even died in the first place. There are way too many plots that i would have loved to see, everything was so rushed. More insights on the characters would have been amazing aswell. I gotta be honest i liked vinh as i saw him as more than just the jerk they were trying to project but still there was so much potential I am also still confused about the detective who just disappeared after knowing stuff about arcadia bay. What really got me angry though was max not taking this f ing picture off the counter while he was looking in the other direction! I was shouting at her to take and hide it I didn't know anything about this game before i started playing it. I played all the others (except i didn't finish lis 2). True colors might be my fav. But ever since i reached the big plottwist in this one it just got boring and the decisions you took didn't even matter
I wish Max could do other things in these games, like there was a soft timer to her day similar to Persona. Let us try to get through teaching a class on photography or develop photos in her basement. And the biggest bother to me is that once we know who the murderer is, it just feels like...why continue? I can understand wanting to understand your own motivations, but like, all you can do at that point is let life play out and lead you to the deciding moment somehow, or encounter your double from another timeline, which there isn't. We never see the Max in the other timeline. She should exist right? Why continue investigating the lives of anyone anymore? The case is cracked. Everything else is just side quests now. On top of this, the reality shifting doesn't "feel" as fun as the rewind, seeing things warp backwards around you. It might as well be two rooms with the same objects in them, and a door in the middle, and you have to keep walking from one end of one room to the other end of the other room, pressing the interaction button until the game finishes. The puzzle here is solved the same way every single time. I agree, I wish someone could come along and take another shot at this (heh, is this a LiS joke?) but it probably just can't happen. This isn't the rabid Sonic fanbase in the face of a CG movie that hasn't come out yet.
Do we all remember the amount of conclusive arks life is strange 1 had? They took the time to show the effects your last decision had on every character because each character played an important role in the story.
also so glad i dated amanda it had not a single effect. The relationship kept "resetting"? They kept being like "lets take it slow" every time they talked until the game was over. i was actually super excited about her character but we didnt learn shit.
Its weird how they just completely thrown away our choices we made in the previous games this game isn't the best and it really could've been so much better
max’s role as an artist in residence was so weird. it was not explored at all, she still behaves like a student and we never see her doing anything that being in that role would entail. it feels like just the background for having her there, like they wanted an excuse for her to be on a college campus without committing to her being either a student or a full on professor.
All actual gameplay aside, my problem is the $80 pricetag! Are you kidding me? For a 12 hr story game, they used to give away these things now they want $80!?! Wishful thinking
The "Max will return" bit is probably the part that annoys me the most. I chose the refuse ending for her because I wanted her to be able to just live a normal life again. Another thing that's not a big deal but still felt somewhat low budget was how few scenes were used in the game. The whole game is basically the campus, snapping turtle, the overlook and Max's apartment. True Colors was similar but I didn't mind it as much.
I would have loved for a new game + where maybe we could have played another character like the reporter girl that interacts with max, or play it from the altered world Safi was alive, like what if the new game plus had Safi as the main character, and we got to shapeshift into different people thought the game, see it from her point of view instead of max. or a new game where we got to play Chloe and whatever she was doing during the whole time, max was using her powers, and seeing the messed up world affects from max and Safi like how that might of affected Chloe since she was a survivor of max's powers, if you picked her to live I guess. yes, I wonder that too why no word from Kate or warren in game. I played it from episode 1 to 5 already, so I do wish it came with more, and I don't feel the need to pay 20 dollars for cat addons. Max seems to have a type; she is still fixated on bad girls like Safi, it was random and strange that she could kiss to others in game, that almost are like side characters with no plot to them at all thought out the game. I also noticed that she feels more like a college student than a teacher and looks more like one if it was not for those forehead Rinkles on max, she seems like kid maybe college level smart but not grow up like a teacher personality was not there, it feels like they just hired her because of the photo skills maybe since it didn't feel like she could grade or write papers on her own, I mean they even gave her a dark room for her photo's I think if anything she was just a photo teacher but nothing more than that skill wise, I didn't feel like double exposure did their plot great in that aspect of it. but around the college campus what I found neither interesting nor funny was the tablet with the audio recording jokes. In the game, they included poor-quality poop jokes around the area where you get the hot cocoa. I did not buy any of the addons for this game. It is just left with no one around it, which feels odd. It is strange that Amanda would have left her tablet in that area without any explanation. The game does not provide any context for presence. It as if they are saying, "Here, Max, listen to audio recordings of us talking about poop in bathrooms and clogging the sinks with poop then she goes on in audio to talk about that a few different recordings were left in the game around that area." They made really bad poop jokes and included them in the disc version. I assume it is also in the digital version, but I received the double exposure disc version of the game for Christmas. It not something you would want your parents to hear while you are playing "Life is Strange" in your bedroom with your soundbar 5.1 device. I think the jokes are for a few people that find that stuff funny, I sorry but I did not find it funny, to even listen too when it started to get very weird or strange I just moved max away from the playback device in game. it might have been connected to when max talks to Amanda in bar, about having to use bathroom if it was a number 1 or 5 level bathroom need, maybe but still strange that she would of just left it there, I don't remember if audio recording was in alive world or dead world in game. I don't even know if I used my Bluetooth ear pods, if I wanted to listen to the full recordings, sometimes in games audio recordings are fine, but I didn't feel the need or want to listen. are poop jokes by girls considered woke or not, in any case, it was just bad. I don't mind the different bathroom signs, but really why did they include those bad poop jokes in the game, I only could listen to it until it got very bad, with their words, I would rather play a new game with whatever Choe is doing, also they could have provided a better picture of her or rendering of her, if you're playing, she lived plot in this game. I think Safi is the new Choe, yes, max replaced one bad girl for another one. talk about bad habits. the fact that max could date and kiss both the guy and girl and both of them from different worlds would get mad at her over it, but really, doesn't max have morels about doing stuff like that but the game lets you go there anyway, is that a woke thing? It bothers me that they felt the need to give Max forehead wrinkles in her skin. Why did they do that? Yes, some of the game's choices felt pointless. Don't girls use skincare products for issues like that? Why did they give her such dry skin problems in double exposure? I think she got tired of Chloe caring about her skin, not that it ever happened, but it was a strange rendering of her forehead. I noticed it while playing on my Series X console version of the game. Maybe the addons and outfit choices fixed that, but I don't own them. It's noticeable in the basic outfits the game provides for free. It's like Max's self-care might be improved with the costume outfits, but I do not know for sure. Sure, this game has its problems. I guess parts of it were too woke, or there were bad jokes included about pooping in audio recordings. That must gotten away from the developers, as seems the company should not have included that since it's low-quality humor. Also, that might explain why she wears that orange hat besides the cold snow. Maybe it dries out her skin more. We don't get much snow here, maybe two days or a week during this month. Otherwise, I don't see snow much, and last year we got no snow at home. The whole whale or dead animals and global warming didn't feel connected to their powers or any animals dying. I guess the new game forgot about it. Besides a twister, I felt it was lacking in the world around her. Since it was already snowing, I guess a summertime was too much to ask for. Also did they forget that Max jumped into a different world in the original game where Chloe was disabled in a wheelchair? I kind of felt like the new Max forgot all about that in this game. The game needs more work. I am not feeling like buying a $20 addon just for petting cats. I can pet real cats at home; no need for that in a video game.
This 100%. I absolutely dont understand the praise this game is getting or how people can say that the enjoyed it from start to finish. This game is just an insult to loyal fans, even with the Chloe drama aside. Unimportant and forgotten story elements and decision, a story that was started but never really explained and questionable characters like the forced hetero pairing option with Vinh..
As someone that did agree to join Safi, I genuinely did lose the plot of the game. It felt jarring and weird as fuck, and at the end I barely knew what I was signing up for anymore. After thinking on it I just thought man but this choice was dumb as hell and seemed to turn the game into a stepping stone for yet another sequel, instead do having a definitive end like the first game.
People chose to accept Safi because she clearly needs help and rejecting her WHILE she clearly needs help is how you make a Darth Vader out of an Anakin.
Deck Nine probably watched the MCU and thought "let's just do that". Gonna end up with a Civil War scenario with Max's group of powered people vs Safi's where Safi is LiS' version of Magneto🤣
I fr didnt understand the story as soon as the 4th Episode kicked in and this dead lady whose name I already forgot became the whole plot point and I fr didnt understand why Max was like "If I get this dead woman her justice than I wont kill Safi." Im like oooookkk?! Like what does that even change for Safi except that she gets mad and tries to Magneto everyones brain. It would have been way better when we did actually some detective work rather than this whole "Lets setup Lucas" scheme. I am also really mad that they just introduced one of the most interesting side characters Alderman who seemed to kinda link everything back to Max though without even context on how and why ? Even he seemed to know whats up with Max´s powers (And no before anyone says that it was Safi: 1st she never met Alderman so she cant shapeshift into him 2. She didnt even know that Max had powers until much later). They wrote him off so lazy it was baffling he really just vaporized into thin air and never existed in any of the timelines which is bizarre and should have been looked into further. I feel like Im having more creative ideas than the whole 4th and 5th episode.. To me this game is worse than True Colors. It mostly has its good grace because of Max and we all love her no matter if the actual game makes sense or not but the overall story was waaaaaaaay better executed in TC than in DE. Say whatever you want about Alex Chen but at least her story made sense to me and I understood what happened but here I really dont get anything that happens in Episode 5 and I know they dont have to explain everything but at least give me some logic which makes sense with the lore of LiS. I dont even wanna start with the whole Safi turns Evil thing bc It is soo braindead... I feel like even giving us the choice for Max to be like "I still stand by your side." is just a mockery of Max. Because yeah I get that they went for a weird version of Bae or Bay Ending but honestly it didnt stick with me at all. It would have been much better if Safi made that choice HERSELF rather than giving me this choice because why does she even wanna be friends with me when I clearly did most of the time "Anti-Safi" decisions?!
Tbf the reason many ppl agree is because 1 they didnt fully understand what they were agreeing to, and 2, they were scared of what Safi would do if they said no, because clearly Safi was extremely unstable for the entire end of the game, and now spouting a whole ass villain arc gathering super humans like them, so ppl understandably didnt wanna take the risk of saying 'no' and making Safi become their enemy, or worse, turning into Max and committing who knows what kind of terrible acts in her image and turning everyone against her, which she has a track record of doing like with Gwen and Lucas, so whose to say she wouldnt do the same if we said no? thats why the percentage of agreement is so high, not cuz ppl actually agree, but because they dont know what that nut job will do if we refuse and its safer to agree for the time being and stay on her good side.
10:25 Funniest part of the game. 😂 Regarding the Max Cinematic Universe they are trying to set up, the upcoming conflict doesn't make any sense when Max can just go back in time and kill Safi whenever she wants in order to stop it happening. One issue I don't think is mentioned enough is how messed up the Max-Amanda situation is. Amanda accepts a date with Max but after Safi dies says she doesn't think starting something would be the right thing to do because Max is dealing with the loss of her friend. Quite reasonable. But then Max goes into the alt-timeline and gets off with a version of Amanda that is unaware of what Max is going through. That's horribly duplicitous. Max even suggests they sleep together! When the timelines merge Amanda is aware of this, but even though she knows she narrowly avoided being r-worded, she says Max still has a chance with her. WTAF?! There are so many things wrong with this game.
I've seen this take but I don't really agree with it. Max doesn't know that timelines will merge and and assuming that in the alive timeline there is another max that is the same as dead timeline Max (minus dead friend) Max is just acting as would happen if safi wasnt killed Or maybe there's something I don't understand or the game doesn't explain it, cause where was other max the whole time??
@@methanethk240 Max does it because she thinks she'll get away with it. Just like she can romance both Vinh and Amanda in different timelines. That's not the Max of LiS1 (who should never even want to use her powers ever again).
@@methanethk240 To be fair (something that despite as much as I enjoyed watching the game it doesn't deserve), I just assumed that there was only 1 Max, and that the 2 timelines sorta... separated? as a result of her time-hopping in the first game. Following that logic, it would also explain why Max is able to hop between the 2 now. She's had another emotional catalyst in losing Safi initially, a thing which has been established to be a way that people discover their powers. In defense of Max getting with both versions of Amanda, while they're both the same person they're technically 2 completely different people, as neither knows of the other's existence up until the timelines merge. Had Safi never gone off the deep-end, it quite possibly could have remained that way indefinitely, in which case morals can still come into question. But again, 2 different people which can thus be treated differently, assuming Max is emotionally and mentally capable of separating the 2 (doubtful). Regardless, as you said, Max doesn't know that they'd eventually merge, so she technically would have no reason to treat them both like the same person.
I thought it would have been cool if they really went through with the murder mystery and you would be able to not only get justice for Safi, but also Maya along the way. The timeline power could have been something that started to drain Max' strength, so she would only hold onto the other timeline until she had all the answers she needed. It could have been a story about Max needing to let go of the other timeline eventually to not destroy herself. And her realizing that although her powers aren't able to undo any damage, this time she was able to use them in a way that helped people heal, by bringing justice to both Safi and Maya.
In a way I sorta get where they’re coming from, it’s like Max facing someone with the same powers and in the end she wouldn’t want her to face the consequences that she did or ends up trusting them. It’s a flawed game I dont necessarily think that it was a bad idea, I felt this game just wasn’t fleshed out like the others it felt a little rushed icl, I usually love the LIS games but man I get where you’re coming from and I agree with the ending but I guess if they wanted to set a sequel in a world with other people with powers it’s definitely interesting I just hope they figure it out in the next game a bit better.
Mostly baffled that Max isn't even remotely traumatized by or at least CONSIDERATE OF the events of the first game. It feels like she's playing a game, and we're watching her offer no meaningful commentary.
I completely agree with everything you said. I thought the ending was very unsatisfying and I felt like it wasn't even worth playing. When i played the first game after the ending of that i just sat back in my chair and i was like Wow, that was amazing. Such an amazing story and characters. At the end of Double Exposure i was like. Ok Thats it?. This ending sucks
clearly they only care about making as much money off of this as possible now, and not about telling a story. with the polaroid and doc martens brand deals and now this pathetic, undisguised attempt to turn LIS into a marvel franchise story😭 it makes me so sad. how dare they turn my favorite game series into a cash grab
It would have been SO COOL to see her actually teaching, coming full circle from student to master. They could have used that to reflect on her time during Jefferson’s class and using that to make callbacks like… it’s not that hard?
thiss
As Jefferson said " Im obsessed with the idea of capturing that moment innocence evolves into corrution"
Everyone agree Max would never fking forget what Jefferson told her both in the lectures and in the darkroom have a fking callback and make a good as game with good writing but instead we got "the biggest piece of dog shit ive ever played" I legit had the Joe Rogan gif expression when I saw the trailers for DE how wrong i were....
Who even am I???"( if you choose to have Chloe dead)
Fuck me that would be so good...
Max would not do this shit and would not approach teaching so carelessly
It's been like a month since the game came out and I'm still burning with anger this game pisses me off so much oh my god
Even Max's journal had the potential to at least visualize her Jefferson trauma.
Agreed. Would be nice we see Max teaching a class or something a faculty member would do.
Wait she is?? I thought she was a student 😅
I thought the game was setting up a partnership with Max and Loretta working on the mystery together. But that doesn’t go anywhere.
this comment is how i found out she want a student 😭
i loved safi from the first three chapters and really disliked her in the last two.. so yeah.. idk why they ruined her character so fast. the last choice was such a boring choice because it felt like it didn't matter at all, and it wasn't hard to make a decision AT ALL since, at this stage, safi was only annoying and idk why i would let max join her after her selfish and destructive behavior.
oh and also, wasn't the whole point of the first game to teach us that max should not use her power because it is destructive. and this game shows us AGAIN that it is and yet, at the end, we get a choice that is based on whether max will join some kind of superpowered gang basically. makes no sense
It makes no sense, yet the majority of players still agreed to it. Mental!
When Safi turned into Max (after you reject her megalomaniacal request) I was expecting a choice to pop up: "Shoot Safi" or "Shoot Safi". 🤣
bro safi was not in the game for 2 nd and 3 rd chapter she was barely in it as chloe replacement it is like gabe.
Bro that girl is crazy 😂😂 I mean taking the form of a father and telling the son "me and your mom broke up because of you" that is so fucked up
Like the kid had nothing to do with your problems what were you thinking 😂
So if sofi had no good relationship with her parents all kids should be like that for her to be happy 😂
Sofi really needs help and no not the kind of help that max can provide she needs some real mental help
He’s gonna come back as Mr Negative and then fight Max on top of a building
they didnt forget anything bro, its the deep seated hatred they have for police officers. nothing more - nothing less.
Also like, why did that happen? It's just completely dropped outside of a few texts from Moses.
HELPP I FULLY AGREE ON THIS! I was so sad at the end about the way they started setting up a whole super hero universe or whatever the heck that was. It just feels like they didnt quite understand the message behind the first game.
!!!
And now apparently there are three at one campus... you know?
@@TreyGarlic-mr7ut Just cause you get superpowers doesn’t make you hero or villain.
FINALLY someone actually talking about the pros and cons and not just saying "Ugh wheres Chloe" or "it's just cash grab trash"
Literally I’ve been looking for a review since I beat the game
But for real, where is Chloe?
Can't find this tweet
My biggest problems were: I didn't feel any connection with the characters who were supposed to be Max's best friends, didn't care for them at al. And I thought it was going to be about Safi's murder specifically, but turned out to be about why Maya offed herself, which was all very anticlimatic for me.
This was the worst life is strange game imo

Love him)
All they cared about was pushing the LGBTQRSTUV narrative instead of an actual gritty and intriguing one like the original game.
Yeah at the end of the game I was like, but who killed Safi now?? It's not even that the murder was faked, they just completely yadda yadda out of the murder altogether
@@c-mo313lesbian gay bisexual trans, idk why this is so much lesbian and gay shit, yes call me a homo

Life-Men
We can all blame square enix for this since d9 we’re prolly pressured into making de.
Amen!
i don't remember a single choice that felt like it really mattered
Couldn‘t have said it better myself! I 100% agree with you and I‘m so happy to read all these comments with people having the same thoughts as me! I thought I‘m loosing my mind because there were so many good reviews and a lot of people liked the game and I was just confused about how any sane person could not see how badly this game is
Actually, you can join Abraxas... but guess what happens then? That's right: nothing.
The way the two timelines merged was just underwhelming, it really made no sense, they should've just made the player decide which reality they wanted to live in - the dead world or the living world, even the Safi going full on villain plot could've worked if they executed it better - you either choose to let her live and destroy the town, or go back and do what happened in the beginning, but save everyone (accidentally had the same idea as the guy in the video, guess I'm not the only one who thought about it)
...but it'd still be mediocre as the game indeed is just full of parallels to LiS1, basically a copy that doesn't really feel original, even that choice would be 1:1 like LiS, they really shot themselves in the foot with this game
4. How was Safi just instantly fine after nearly drowning in a frozen lake
At the end of the game when the characters have been possessed by Safi and witnessed a freak storm with double blood moons and teleported to random bowling alleys and they're just like "well what a bad storm that was!"
There's so much more as well but I'm tired and realise I've written more in your comment section than Deck Nine did for Chloe and their whole "breakup" saga
😩
The part where Max shot Safi is what was suppose to Happen until Max again says No. We didn't have a Choice there was No way this was going to End where Safi is Dead.

Other than as we can see huge BLANKS occur in the plot
very good questions. just a terribly written game all around.
In the letter or text she accused us/Max of living in the past and never moving forward
Im sorry did the first game not happen? Chloe was CEMENTED in the past when it came to Rachel. Always bringing her up, tried pushing us to do things because Rachel would have done it, we even wear the bi+++'s clothes at one point
Even at the end she says the storm was "Rachel's storm, our Storm"
But in this game Chloe has all of a sudden shifted her attitude and now it's Max who can't move on from the past?
This whole plotline was botched and lazy.
yeah, thank you
U do realize hes a detective right?
There are many other dropped things too:
- Secret student society
- Loretta's podcasts
- Reggie seing himself in the dead timeline
- Who called Safi and why was she so disturbed?
- Who takes the polaroid pictures and how do they get into current two timelines?
I also don't get why were we supposed to care about Maya so much, that we are being so invested into exposing Lucas with Safi?
Alex can tell them when Safi is feeling sad
Absolute killer 😂
I laughed so hard on that line 😂 #loveforalex ❤
Alex could become an informant for Max and warn her whenever Safi gets emotional and about to impersonate as other people lmao
love Alex ❤ i wish her game could be appreciated more
The joke was good but in true colors didnt she, basically influence/manipulate quite violently the emotions of the antagonist at the end ? Its been quite a while since ive played the game but from what i can remember the "bad guy" was quite traumatized by the experience. People like to say that Alex's powers are lame compared to Daniel's or Max's, but driving an enemy into madness by shreding his emotions or overwhelm him with fake ones sounds pretty powerful/terrifying if you ask me !
"Together we are Double Exposure" ahh ending

I thought was the only one who thought this!.

I mean. She's as unlikable as Chloe. Max cannot make decent friends apparently

I wish DONTNOD would come back…
So there's one big question that I haven't really seen brought up:
Where was Living World Max?
Dropped plot lines, that were interesting to me, but were dumbed-down by the end of the game:
- Secret student society
- Loretta's podcasts
- Reggie seing himself in the dead timeline
- Who called Safi and why was she so disturbed?
But I totally understand why ppl would reject too
im really embarrassed to tell people that this game is actually real and part of the franchise of Life is Strange 😭
WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT HOW SHE SHOT HER MOM OVER A BOOK DEAL??
Really wanted to love this game cause they brought Max back but it seems they couldn’t bring the magic back. The writing in this game is atrocious for both the characters (except King Moses) and the story. This is arguably the worst game in the series.
We need Dontnod back cause what is Deck Nine doing bro…….
But dontnod made the atrocity that is LiS 2, so idk

Fully agree
I agree
I loved Safi in the first three chapters, then found her genuinely despicable and scum in the last two. A sick individual who wants to act like a victim, but ruined so many other lives for what? Just to not feel sorry. Such a crappy way to ruin a character. I felt horrible for Gwen and Lucas's son. Every other character was stale or shitty.
God, it just makes me angry. She gets to get a trans woman fired from her job, she gets to terrify a poor child, and then she gets to escape all of it consequences-free? And there's so much worse. I hated this, such a horrific game and a more horrific character.
The thing that bothers me are the characters and the choices
in the first game all the characters were well written especially Chloe and her character was good it made you like her more as the game went on and made the last choice very difficult but in this none of the characters have enough screen time and safi was made into a villain and we didn't seem to like her if it would have given me the choice of shoot her or not I would have
Another thing is the choices in the first game choices actually mattered if you didn't make the right choice Kate will die your choices will decide if Victoria will end up with you in the dark room but in this choices just make the conversation and the character's behaviour different nothing more
i can tell you this, not a lot of things mattered, it was only big decisions, but maybe for lis 2 for example they would have all TYPES of choice that would matter, a basic or simple choice that u make about someone affects your relationship with them, and you even get to shape another character of how you treat them and teach them things, its all so cool, i just wanted to use lis 2 as an example cuz this is the game that has the best choices and stuff like i just wanted to put that out there 😂

Can somebody explained how dead world Reggie saw another him when Safi was dead?
It was realistic, you just didn't like it
New dev team, new interpretations😂
Wanted to clarify, the texts say that alderman doesnt exist. nobody remembers him and the texts are changed. the police rule safis death as a suicide due to him never being there. he never existed and nobody remembers him but max and moses
I feel pretty much the same way. It's sad what happened to this story. Makes we wish we could see a different conclusion
There's also characters like Diamond that just seems to hate you for no reason at some point
I wanna rant so much more but it'll be too long
I'm glad someone else noticed Diamond hating you for no reason. I noticed lots of dialogue that felt like a complete jump in attitude considering the context. For this reason I genuinely believe that the game was supposed to have atleast 2-3 more chapters that were cut, that would explain plenty of other things wrong with the game too.
@@alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289 it would explain alot because another thing that still bugs me is Alt world Max

Instead the ending felt forced like a YA novel series.
honestly my exact thoughts
i feel like also interacting with just 12 characters through the whole series was just not it for $50 while the first LIS is like we can interact with everyone.

I would have much rather unraveled the mystery in the last 2 chapters
fr I wish they’d kept the detective and made safi a more prominent character and introduced her powers earlier AND THEN the powers take over her morals so firstly they’d work together to solve the murder mystery so then max can have a motive to properly confront safi when she 180°d her personality idk
you put all my thoughts into words. i literally felt heartbroken when the credits rolled, what were they THINKING
Safi really out there thinking she Nick Fury
I still don’t understand why there is flowers growing at the murder scene and where is the alt-universe max the entire game?
Exactly how I felt! I had no expectations whatsoever and never wanted Max to return. But the game grew on me so much, even got excited after chapter 3. All that just for chapter 4+5 to dunk on the LiS legacy the exact same way I feared since the announcement...

this game had so many issues, to be honest i dont really even see this as a life is strange game, it doe snot have that same story/character connection, the game goes by fast, the choices dont really have a huge effect in this game, just being honest, they kill safi off so fast i didnt like feel sad or really even confused, i mean we broke into some old place and hung out on a roof of a bar, the story was beyond confusing and very messy, the disappearance of the Agent had no effect on the story accept for the fact that it took away from the story like, it made the game shorter or whatever, personally my game had like a hundred different bugs/glitches. if i had to rate the game id give it like a "fine" tier so maybe C-D. its definitely not a good or great game, but its not entirely awful, i am glad that max has had some character development though, im happy to see her new powers, and i wish i could say i was excited for the DLC, or new game but my hopes arent to high, i know not even life is strange true colors was all that great, so people say, but id put that on top of this game honestly.
I gotta be honest i liked vinh as i saw him as more than just the jerk they were trying to project but still there was so much potential
I am also still confused about the detective who just disappeared after knowing stuff about arcadia bay. What really got me angry though was max not taking this f ing picture off the counter while he was looking in the other direction! I was shouting at her to take and hide it
I didn't know anything about this game before i started playing it. I played all the others (except i didn't finish lis 2). True colors might be my fav. But ever since i reached the big plottwist in this one it just got boring and the decisions you took didn't even matter
This game was short af.
These types of games should be 20 dollars at most, no rhe 70 is selling for in my region
Also I cannot believe one player would ever off the bat romance Vinh. Terrible character, ridiculously unfit romance option.
Its weird how they just completely thrown away our choices we made in the previous games this game isn't the best and it really could've been so much better
So glad I didn’t pay $80 for this game
max’s role as an artist in residence was so weird. it was not explored at all, she still behaves like a student and we never see her doing anything that being in that role would entail. it feels like just the background for having her there, like they wanted an excuse for her to be on a college campus without committing to her being either a student or a full on professor.
avengers ahh ending☠️💀💀
All actual gameplay aside, my problem is the $80 pricetag! Are you kidding me? For a 12 hr story game, they used to give away these things now they want $80!?! Wishful thinking
The game isn't close to 12 hours. Maybe 8, and even less on a second playthrough.
Another proof that Decknine doesn't have a clue of what they're doing, and what we need... You said it all.
Sofia shoulda been a romance option ngl
“i gave deck nine a benefit of the doubt and they spat in my face” is so fucking true
Mark Jefferson: shhh quite
Absolute nonsense storyline with even worse characters.
Deck Nine probably watched the MCU and thought "let's just do that".
Gonna end up with a Civil War scenario with Max's group of powered people vs Safi's where Safi is LiS' version of Magneto🤣
I fr didnt understand the story as soon as the 4th Episode kicked in and this dead lady whose name I already forgot became the whole plot point and I fr didnt understand why Max was like "If I get this dead woman her justice than I wont kill Safi."
Im like oooookkk?!
Regarding the Max Cinematic Universe they are trying to set up, the upcoming conflict doesn't make any sense when Max can just go back in time and kill Safi whenever she wants in order to stop it happening.
Max doesn't know that timelines will merge and and assuming that in the alive timeline there is another max that is the same as dead timeline Max (minus dead friend) Max is just acting as would happen if safi wasnt killed
Or maybe there's something I don't understand or the game doesn't explain it, cause where was other max the whole time??
The last 2 chapters felt like fanfiction
So everyone has power that means mark Jefferson will be final boss 😂
That would be hilarious
