Bravo! Spectacular. It was 54 years ago, as I write this (Dec. '24), that Engelbert Humperdinck sang this marvelous song on the Ed Sullivan Show (always on, on Sunday night). The music and talent of that era- 50's, 60's, through the 70's- is unmatched; certainly even today. Engelbert's rendition of 'My Way', was both powerful and 'moving'. Really glad that I was coming of age at that time, and experienced that wonderful musical era.

Engelbert had been in the music industry since the early 1950's (around 1953/54), and had to wait a lot of years for success to finally come to him. Sinatra only had to wait 4 years before he was brought in a prestigious orchestra, such as Harry James'. Like another person in the comment section said, Engelbert Humperdinck fell terribly ill of tuberculosis in 1961 for half a year, and was left for dead in the hospital he was staying since tuberculosis was a deadly illness back then and he was in a really horrid state. Same or even worse as Freddy Mercury in his last month's of life. When he recovered he tried to get back into the business but couldn't get a job anywhere. He lost his car and his house, so he had to live in shared rooms or, when he couldn't even do that, he had to sleep in the street or in telephone posts, or in public toilets. Moral of the story is: don't judge a book by its cover.

I agree it does sound bland from him and I'm a big Engelbert Humperdinck fan but there are songs he has covered on albums that just do not sound right for him to record or sing. This is the first time I have heard Engelbert Humperdinck cover the song.
Engelbert went through some very bad times in his life, for one he almost died when he was so sick and ill in the early 60 "s.Through the grace of God he recoverd after so long .You should read his biography from when he was baby .He faced alot of hard times to get to were he is till today. So glad he made it in life and reached the top in show business.He"s the greatest Singer,Entertainer Ever. God bless him always.

Engelbert was way too young to be singing "My Way." Paul Anka wrote it for someone - Sinatra - who had a few decades under his belt.

Engelbert had been in the music industry since the early 1950's (around 1953/54), and had to wait a lot of years for success to finally come to him. Sinatra only had to wait 4 years before he was brought in a prestigious orchestra, such as Harry James'.
Like another person in the comment section said, Engelbert Humperdinck fell terribly ill of tuberculosis in 1961 for half a year, and was left for dead in the hospital he was staying since tuberculosis was a deadly illness back then and he was in a really horrid state. Same or even worse as Freddy Mercury in his last month's of life.
When he recovered he tried to get back into the business but couldn't get a job anywhere. He lost his car and his house, so he had to live in shared rooms or, when he couldn't even do that, he had to sleep in the street or in telephone posts, or in public toilets.
Moral of the story is: don't judge a book by its cover.

the reason people made Sinatras version of this song the definitive one is...they understand Frank actually lived the life the song describes...and maybe the reason for that..is paul anka WROTE it specifically for Sinatra!
I agree it does sound bland from him and I'm a big Engelbert Humperdinck fan but there are songs he has covered on albums that just do not sound right for him to record or sing. This is the first time I have heard Engelbert Humperdinck cover the song.
When you've loved and lost the way Frank has, then you know what life's about.
It's funny because Frank didn't even like singing this song.
Engelbert went through some very bad times in his life, for one he almost died when he was so sick and ill in the early 60 "s.Through the grace of God he recoverd after so long .You should read his biography from when he was baby .He faced alot of hard times to get to were he is till today. So glad he made it in life and reached the top in show business.He"s the greatest Singer,Entertainer Ever. God bless him always.
