Unique interpretation?? You kidding me, Elvis cut this song like butter, It expends energy for free all the execution, is not it? You have to tell a story here, and a little emotion in the right places, to hear Elvis again, and understand how to sing such a song ....
Tom Jones' a very special singer. No matter what this man sing he always make it sound better than the original. Back in the 70's I can remember when an older sister of mine was crazy about this man. Years ago I thought that Tom was a black singer. Wow; what an ending he did to this song.
Tom Jones has the most powerful voice I have ever heard !!! My late husband and I never went on vacation without his tapes And I might add our Honeymoon !!!
Perhaps for a pop singer, though it's hard to say between him, Elvis, Freddie Mercury, etc., while opera singers, of course, blow them all away. And Presley, of course, is definitely the most diverse singer ever.
Sinatra said to him: Take it easy, you’re going to blow your voice out. Tom replied: This is the only way I know how to sing. He’s 80 now and his voice did not blow out!
hmm but tom did have a problem with his voice at some point if i recall and had to have some sort of throat surgery to remove some nodules back in the 90's it wasn't due to a blow out lol but he must of been worried about is voice after surgery
@@bioshock6935 Yes, you are correct. He had what they call the ‘scrape’ surgery wherein they scrape nodes that build up on the vocal chords over time-kind of like scraping barnacles off of a boat, but clearly more delicate. This is the surgery that ended Julie Andrews singing career when the surgeon botched it. Tom’s went perfectly.
Forty six years since I heard him for the first time and I knew his voice and renditions of songs were just unbeatable, as they are now and shall be for the thousands years to come.
When it comes to the English language then yes I agree Tom Jones voice is unmatched. In general though that's more subjective, the Italians have Opera singers who were incredible like Pavarotti and in Mexico, where my roots are, you have the Rancher singers like Jorge Negrete and Javier Solis who also had incredible voices.
I have heard this sung by many other great singers, but Tom Jones infuses his special brand of passionate power in the performance and once again, made this one of the best aural treat for me!!

@@ZENOBlAmusic THEY(referring it to the band Queen) did that, not just Freddie, Ok? Also what I meant in being versatile is the way changing your vocal quality and timbre into a different sound. For example You can change from an Operatic tone to a rock tone. Like Elvis Presley if you listen to his songs. That's what I'm referring to being a versatile SINGER, not a musician.
