Awesome that its a daily driver, I recently bought my first car, a 1964 Impala SS thats my daily driver, nothing beats turning the key every morning hearing that 327 with dual exhaust or the constant compliments aha.
I had a 67 Impala for several years back in the 80's and loved it. I picked up a 69 Caprice for $300 with a 396, Turbo 400, 12 Bolt posi with 3.42 gears and disc brakes as a parts car. Swapped the complete frame into mine. One thing I added that made all the difference in the world driving the car was a steering box from a late 70's Firebird Trans Am with the WS6 option. It was a bolt in swap using the Impala's pitman arm. Less than 3 turns lock to lock with great feedback. Good luck!
Is that the same backyard that the F & F built General Mayhem? If it isn't, then it looks just like it.
+lilturk726 It is.
falloutboy
Awesome! Thanks.
Ah man. I saw the bacon wrapped hot dogs in the beginning and I had to pause the vid haha! The power of bacon.
Taylor Helm Remember the episode of "That 70's Show" after Reds heart attack where his wife is making him eat healthy but feeding their son a plate full of bacon? Ha Ha Ha Haaaaaaaa... MMM Bacon.
Good grief that's not a backyard paint job, that's a 10 person on site painting operation.
A backyard paint job is 1 person in a backyard with a piece of sand paper and some spray cans, with plenty of wind blowing to top it off.
vioscios rattle can jobs for the win
vioscios I agree. This was complete bullshit. I could do the same work, by myself, in the time they took. This was probably organized by a woman.
pottqqgIa
kodi robertson STOP talking with your mouth full.
Usually it starts raining out of nowhere and the local trees are shedding.
This episode especially this Impala brings back so much memories. My father use to drive one like this and even it wasnt a red, I still remember the brown body /white vinyl interior and the wind blowing up the whole family faces.
Great vid guys.
dat orange peel doe
I'm am getting ready to pick up a 67 impala convertible this weekend. I have bin looking for one for about 12 years. I had on as a kid and I just can't wait. you picked the best convertible ever in my opinion.
What a difference a colour makes! Well done chap!
That satin clear coat reminds me of original paint jobs and looks correct on that car! Nice job!
That car is a thing of beauty.
Way to go! Very cool, perfect for California! Please make an update video with the car all finished when your finished with it, if that day ever comes because I know these projects can be never ending.
Thanks for letting me take part in this part of your project. Glad you had fun and can't wait to see the next step.
Low profile, new grill, new side mirrors, new lights front and back, different bumper and a new set of mags and tires. it will look awesome!
ROADKILL and HOT ROD UNLIMITED best shows on motor trend
hey this is where roadkill worked on the general mayhem!
And the prius/gremlin
And the Dodge Charger.
RancherSteve ...that they named General Mayhem. (Name tribute to the General Lee Charger.)
Dude that was really cool! 👍🏼😎 thanks
2:04 bacon wrapped hotdogs, fuck now im hungry.
A good, economical effort. Commendations, guys.
Really great job AND great video. Many thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for this cool car.
Looking good. Great job. Thumbs up.
Hell yeah! You guys did a kick ass job on that car! Looks terrific! I would be proud to drive that every day! This makes me consider painting my car at home. Looks great!
That is a beautiful ride great job
What a great project. Congrats!
Looks great... the color realy makes a difference! I want it!
Interesting segment. I enjoyed that.
nice job,it looks great
I'm about to do a painting project of my own, so thanks for the tips! I think I just found another Hot Rod show I want to watch all of.
Love the wide whites! Not enough people are willing to go that way, but the car rocks those tires with that paint now. The thing I would do next, if not already done in previous episodes, would be chasis upgrades. Nothing drastic, but maybe a larger sway bar, disc brake upgrade( maybe convert rears?). Minor things to improve safety and handling on highways.
OH GODS, bacon wrapped sausage links, PURE GENIUS!
Love paint Job episodes, please bring them more!
It looks a HELLUVA lot better now, and it is impressive you did that in the yard. Gotta love that CA weather. As far as what to do with the car..... I think it would look good with a small cowl hood and some bigger inch Rally wheels, and maybe a M-22 and a Gear Vendors. But, what you should really do with it..... ENJOY IT!!!!
It looks great!
WOW this is really cool. Please please please more stuff like this.
Best episode yet, this is what a show is about and what people what to watch, real cars not bolt together show ponies
Looks awesome
Red factory interior, Nice low rake and some Astro Supreme's with pinner whites ( 3/8 stripe) 15s or Maybe 18"s from Diamondback classic. Im a Ford guy but loves me some Impalas!!!!
Awesome more vids like this!! Backyard tuning is the best haha
You should put more of these project car episodes everyone loves them
nice job...Jesse is a good host...i'd like to see more of his work....
Great job!
love the paint job
best part of this video is when David and Mike show up
yall did a good job with that paint. gave me some ideas for my cutlass im working on.
That is a beautiful old car. Love it.
Ok that did it, going to do my old ford truck its a 1972 and has a nice but old paint job on it now, its going to get another. I had it painted 15 years ago its time to do it one more time before I move on to the next plain . really a very cool job I am all excited to give it a shot my self. by the way thanks for your video was very inspiring .
wow completely different character. Love it man
Awesome 😍
Yeppers I have, that's what I was thinking. Pretty damn cool they got that on tape! :D
Color sand and buff would make a world of difference on it.
Great episode. I learned a lot from it and ALWAYS entertaining. Good one. Paint Frei's Charger........please!!!
Filmed at the same location the General Mayhem would later come to life at.
Great job on the Impala, congratulations on your professionally looking DIY back yard paint job! In my view it may be a good idea to put hydraulics on this beauty. Also, putting some speakers may make your driving experience even better!
Do a backyard interior resto! like buying the carpet kit, and some new seat foam and leather covers, maybe even dynamat (or quick roof if you wanna go REALLY cheaply about it) and a stereo as well!
amazing paint job awesome my favorite color red
I think this is great, and the cheap way to do it.
This chevy looks nice now, alot better this way :)
Good episode!
Thats pretty neat!
looks like fun!
8:40 the coolest bike i ever seen!!!
I like it. I think you all did a really nice job. I hope the paint holds up. I would recommend a followup video on how well the paint itself is holding up. But really, the most important thing is if you like it, and it sounds like you do.
Regards, Tom
I think that it should be a daily driver. I rebuilt a 1968 limited edition Chevrolet Caprice from the ground up back in 1980. That girl road and drove so good, that it become my daily driver for years until I was offered more than twice of what I had invested in it, so I let her go intending to find me a 1967 SS 396 Chevelle, my favorite muscle from the past to rebuild from ground up. Sad to say I never found the right one for me at the price I would have had to buy it for. And I have regretted selling my Caprice ever since. At age 63, I still have the dream of rebuilding me a 1967 Chevelle SS 396 or 427!!!
Learned to drive in a '67 Impala.
Awesome story!
That is one awesome car! Wish I had that!
That looks loads better!
awesome!
Nice paint job
liked this a lot
Am I the only one who actually likes how it turned out?
The new color looks great! I love the new wheels and big whitewalls. Since the car already has a new crate motor and tranny, I'd upgrade to 4-wheel disc brakes (Wildwood?) next. If it's going to be a daily driver, safety should be be a high priority.
Great project! Amazing that you could do it over a weekend. Very smart choice of scope for the project, and for managing realistic expectations for results. Now you have a fun to drive hobby car. Using the same savvy approach to make it a more fun daily driver, how about some interior restoration? Or maybe some suspension/brake upgrades?
take it off some sweet jumps!
Not too shabby for a backyard paint job
Perfect look .I like those coker tires
I think the green looked good!
SUPERNATURAL!!!!
That is awesome!!! I feel like I can do this now, instead of paying 4k for a professional! Great video!
Hunter's "RED SHARK"!! (ref Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas)
very nice!
Nice!
Is that Rob Kinnen's back yard? Why is it his place gets all the abuse? First this car, then Freiburgers charger....
and the gremlin/prius episode
Id give my yard If I had all of these awesome people to hang out with, lol, at most you'll get oil or gas on the floor, it can be fixed.
nice car love that colour
Isn't this backyard in every motortrend show? I swear, this is where freiburger and Finnegan did the charger episode on roadkill.
NITROUS!!!!!!
When I was a kid, about a million years ago, my parents had a 59 impala wagon in factory dark red. I have always thought that was the color those huge ass cars looked best in. I think your's would look great in it too. But first you'd need to cover up the hideous shade on it now. If you were going to use a red, why not go with a factory color instead of crimson? Yup, I agree with most of the other commenters, it's still the most hated project car, but don't sell it, try try again. Factory red, or very dark blue. Fun idea to paint in one day, but next time shoot for three or four days and get it right.
sick for a backyard job
ITs called puke green and I had a couple cars painted like it. Seemed that it was a standard colour back years ago. I painted my first car at 15, was doing body work at 14 and once you do one, you really do own the car. There is a pride in doing it yourself, even if there are drips and sags and bubbles. Its your fingerprint!
Simple reliable LS motor, The car is a cruiser so I'd say ls1. Proven reliability, gas mileage, and relatively cheap. Just modernize suspension and possibly trans and diff depending on condition. The Car aesthetically looks perfect in my opinion. I love the feeling of accomplishing something on my own, creates a bond. Keep it up
Cool story!!
cool, thom taylor was there too. love that guy!
nice color!
back in the late sixties that green was my dad's favorite color on his slot cars. me, not so much. good memories. he's 86 now but he still likes playing with toys. come to think , so do i (1971 BMW R/75/5). summit, hmmmm
very cool, nice paint, i have a 70 torino convert, that is about the same buzz level,
yeah flames might be cool as would air suspension....
That's a sexy red, I love how its not glossy adds flare to it being satin!!
I see a lot of potential in this car I'm interested to see how it progresses please keep us up to date thx
thats a really cool car... :D i wish i could buy one someday after finishing my dentistry course...
Looks like an aerodynamic bicycle
brilliant
The key to a hotrod is it is YOURS!
YOU painted it, YOU put in your time and money. What would make it cool is if YOU built a motor and put it in it. Give the car a few horses.
If when you get out of the car after driving it somewhere and you don't look back at it as you are leaving the parking lot and when the magic in the project is gone, rebuild it. If the magic is still there, than you really don't have to do anything to it.
They had to use a crate engine to please their sponsors... car magazines and videos have always been infomercials to sell products...
Like it the way it is red and hot with classic white walls
Beautiful Impala. I prefer the '67 Chevelle convertible myself, but really, those two don't look that different. Great color as well by the way.
