I definitely agree with using marching sticks, this helped me progress with my weaker hand much faster. Another thing that helped me develop finger control was actually practicing using wrist motion instead. If you can’t do it using wrist alone you’re probably not going to be able to isolate to the fingers. That, for me, comes as kind of a secondary effect.
Thank you so much for the tape idea! I’ve been trying to get my left hand up to right hand blast beat speed & put tape on..and right away made my bast beats more on point! 👌 Appreciate all your videos man! Especially your foot technique videos!
The breakthrough for me was comparing finger control for drumming with ball control for basketball. I used to practice dribbling a ball in each hand close to the ground for better control. My Dad, who went to college for percussion and worked professionally, never put compared the two for me. I feel like that tiny shift in perspective would have saved me a ton of wasted practice time.
Thank you for the great godly tips I'll be using this and practice this with my maibachi on taiko no tatsujin I found out this is what top japanese player do when playing fast songs
Thanks for the video! I have a problem in playing L-R-L-R, but sync motion when both hands playing RL-RL works great... I tried to play slower, but at low speed it feels weird/artificial
What kind/size sticks are those? I have large hands and 2Bs even seem a little hard to keep a good grip on at times...cheers and thanks for the content!
@@HonkeyKongLive oh indeed, I feel like a slightly larger stick would be more comfortable to hold and I would not have to close my hand so tightly to keep control over the stick. Granted I’m still probably graded as a beginner, but don’t want to develop muscle issues from trying to hold on too hard...if any of that makes sense. Cheers!
@@beaubarnett9393 my hands are of a pretty good size and I'm using 5As, if I use anything smaller I feel like I just lose my grip on my sticks all of the time

Great lesson and LOVE those big thick drum sticks. I use Virgil signature sticks as they also feel chunky.

Do you still use your switch grip method, and would this be part of it? I'm not sure whether to join the academy or buy the finger speed course.
Great!!!
It helps to angle the snare towards you. When you're playing with your thumb on top one might have to move one's hand in a way with strain and energy.
Thanks for the video!

How much do the workout sticks weigh without the weights? And how much do the weights weigh?

Small hands here and I always used 2B. I think it's less about size and more just comfort.

I see you Martyn!!! You loved it! I will hopefully stop mooching and sign up for a monthly membership as soon as feasible!
what is the exact weight on those adjustable weights? The site says the sticks are 150 grams, but says nothing about the actual weights.
I have a pair…the weights are 28gr
