“No. I am not in denial. I will still complete Mafia 2, the entire Yakuza series, Red Dead. Witcher and Spider-Man!” Wait…Forza Horizon 5 runs at 60FPS and is *only* 110 GB? Okay, I can live with that, NMS, and my dozen 1GB indie platformers! _proceeds to free up storage for the umpteenth time_
I put Red Dead and Forza on a separate sd card. They are just too big and would eat up too much of my main storage. Just be careful when swapping out sd cards, always turn the deck completely off. I learned this the hard way after watching these guys act like you can "hot swap" sd cards. Do not treat them like game cards.
Some games (again it varies from title to title based on their game engine/file structure) install an obscene amount of data that goes unused, most commonly, language files. If you only speak English, you likely to not need French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese languages (and yes, some games will install that many AND MORE automatically) Days Gone I am able to clear out ~15-16GB of space JUST from language files (I believe other Sony studios titles can be optimized this way too). With mass effect legendary edition, almost 40 (yes, Four-Zero) gigs! The best part is, the game will NOT redownload those language files when it patches/updates, only when moving the game or verifying files. Just by cleaning up the above two titles, i had room for another typical AAA title. Lastly, check your DLCs for every single game installed and make sure to uncheck (IE: uninstall) bonus content and digital deluxe features, etc. Soundtracks, developer interviews, art books, all these things can take up a few hundred megs upto a couple gigs.
Ooooh good point on the languages I didn't even think about that! CRAZY that you could save that much and I never would've considered it! Good call on DLC as well- I don't get a TON of digital deluxe editions but I have a few on PS5 where stuff like that was chewing up more than a few GBs.
I have 5 256 gb cards in "ORICO SD Memory Card Case" except 512 for every day use for mix mash of different games 1. Batman games, rocksteady AA,AC,AK and AO, also 2 batman games from TT. I finished them long ago but i like to go back to them and just swapping sd card is fast and storage free (from main card and internal) solution. 2. Fighting games like T7, SCVI, USFIV, I2:LE, MKXXL, DB:FZ. I play them when is someone from family around and wants sparing. No need to keep them in main card or internal. 3. Yakuza games, YO, YK1, YK2, Y3:R, when i buy more i will intal them here. I swear i going to finish them some day, but until that day came they have dedicated sd card at least. 4. LEGO games, AT TONE OF THEM. I like to collect lego brick for time to time. No need to keep them in main sd card or internal because that isn't so frequent. 5. Racing games like DIRT series, GRID series and some other. Same situation like with lego games. I have plans for more Collection SD cards. Like "Shooter" card with DOOM, WOLF series, they are big so it's going to be 512 card probably. Resident Evil SD card because i like to go back to them (just like batman games). SONY sd card, i have only HZD, DG but when i buy S-M/S-M:MM i prabobly buy sd card just for Sony games.
That sounds like a solid approach as well! As for Yakuza I keep telling myself the same but we'll see what happens :p Honestly at this point organizing stuff on the Deck is KIND of a fun meta-game in its own right!
I used deck cleaner and it initially cleaned out like 4g of junk. Now when I use it it barely gets rid of 500kb, but it will be helpful every couple months to run it and clean up the deck. Very easy to install and run. Also runs on desktop mode which is nice.
You could also consider streaming some games instead of having it locally installed. Of course not a great option if you want to play on the go, but if like me you mostly play on your couch well in range of WiFi, it can be a good option. I actually just configured Xbox gamepass streaming again tonight and spent a couple hours playing Forza horizon 5. I do see that the image is compressed, especially the colours are pretty muted, but the latency is really good. I don't really notice the difference with playing locally anymore. This was really different when horizon 5 was new, trying to stream it back then had me swaying across the road like I was drunk. It also depends on your internet and location though. I'm on a gigabit fiber connection and infrastructure in my country is awesome (the Netherlands). I'm sure the server I'm playing on is not that far away (I'd guess 100-200 km). In more remote places I'm guessing latency will probably be more of an issue. You could still stream from your PC though, or from playstation (which I saw there's already a video about on this channel) and it should also be possible from Xbox (but I haven't tried it myself yet).
Good recommendation! Hilarious to me that I even did a video about streaming games with Days Gone from the PS5 and didn't think to include that as a tip XD
I'd also say it's good to keep an eye on that "Other" section in the Storage. I have a few (like 5 or 6) MicroSD cards and the shader cache for all the games is stored in the internal storage while the games files are stored in the MicroSD cards, so that "Other" portion was over 100Gb. I found some apps and links that show how that space is distributed and how you can delete shaders of games that are already uninstalled or move them to the MicroSD cards too.
Great video! I ran out of storage so installed a 1tb ssd. I use my as a computer sometimes at work. Batman the animated series is great. I need to get batman beyond, I used to love that show.
Thanks a bunch, dude! I need to re-watch Beyond sometime. Growing up I remember my dad rushing home from work so we could watch The Animated series together :p
My thought was using microSD cards as “game collections”, like the Bioshock collection on the Switch. I tend to group games from the same developer or within the same genre on one card and hot swap those depending on what I feel like playing. For instance, if I’m playing GTA 5, I’m more likely to jump into Red Dead Redemption 2 or want a quick Max Payne 3 fix, so it makes sense having those on the same card. On the other hand, if I’m playing Sonic Mania, I want Yooka Laylee, Rayman Legends, Shredder’s Revenge and a slew of other 2D and 3D platformers at my disposal, so I’ve got another card for those. I tend to use the main storage mostly for the PlayStation ports the chew up the bulk of my play time.
Oh, interesting approach! So many great collections too from Disney Afternoon to Mega Man, Catlevania, etc. Cool idea to group them together thematically :D LoL yes, they chew up time AND space!
Great tip as always, today I spent the entire afternoon playing Splinter Cell HD Collection on PS3 and I managed to make my way to the Kalinatek mission but there is a problem (at least for me): at that section where you have to use the Lockpick to unlock the door with the bomb I spin the analog stick to unlock it and nothing happens. I mean, I can unlock the first pick but not the rest, no matter how I try, I even tried with two PS3 controllers and even with a PS2 controller with an USB adapter and same problem. So I decided to forget the HD Collection and Download at least the first 3 Splinter Cell Games for PC, I still need to Download a few files to play them well (with shadows and such) and maybe with Widescreen fix. I'm testing the Prince of Persia HD Collection for PS3 as well and see how it goes. Miles Morales is next, take care. :)
Appreciate it, Miguel! I need to re-visit Splinter Cell sometime ESPECIALLY considering an alleged new one is en route and all. As for where you're stuck maybe it's a glitch or something? Awesome because I really wanna know what you think of Miles! You take care too, due!
@@YourPlayer2 Hey Josh, quick Update: After "talking" to other people on RUclips I found out that you can also pick the locks with the D-pad. I tried that and it worked, I'm now at the famous Abattoir mission where you are on the roof. Will install Miles today, wishing you a great day. :)

Oh yeah, anything that minimizes my stress I'm down for :p Although for me since I'm always shuffling around games for content not sure if keeping a sharp focus like this will work. Unless I get a second Steam Deck...🌝
How dare you suggest to delete your Dreamcast library to liberate some space, you Animal 🤣! Instead of swapping mini SD cards, is it possible to use a USB adapter for mini SD in the Steam Deck Dock? Yes, you would still have to swap them when playing remotely, but it could be a way to access different type of libraries depending on which way you prefer to play! Great video and keep up the good work!
Bwahaha the nerve right?A :p I think you COULD use a USB adapter, but the drive would still need to be formatted for Steam OS I believe. Interesting idea!
