The Evolution of Beatbox: DeWayne Taylor at TEDxLincoln

- Taylor spoke about and demonstrated the evolution of beatboxing, how the art form is spreading like wildfire with just a few clicks of a mouse, and how he's used beatboxing to build bridges between people. Since he was a little boy growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Taylor has been making sounds with his mouth. He went from annoying his mother with his "sounds" to beatboxing after his freshman year track season at Lincoln Southwest High School in 2009. What began as something to fill the time grew, through hours of practicing, to personal performances at many school functions and activities. In early 2012, after being crowned prom king, Taylor performed to an audience of over 400 people. Since then, he has realized that beatboxing is misunderstood and largely unheard within the community around him. Through competing in the American Beatbox Championships, D-Wayne (his stage name) has connected with other beatboxers, young and old, throughout the nation and around the world. He is constantly looking for ways to help people understand and appreciate this form of artistic expression.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) - Развлечения
Tom Thum is better in terms of raw talent, but here's the thing:
-DeWayne Taylor is telling a story with cultural meaning
-No, you can't beatbox better than him
-There's no reason you can't appreciate both videos
-Small audience + live + one take + nervousness
All things considered, this video is still amazing.
Frankly, I think this one makes for a better Ted Talk regardless of talent (which I am not qualified to comment on >.
@@rutabega306 Yo man, I agree with you totally. Don't compare your talent with others (that's what my mom told me, at least).
I find it funny how people are hating on him, he isn't doing this for show, he is telling a story. Yes he is putting a performance on, that isn't the reason he is giving this. DeWayne is a very hard worker. He is practicing hard on a daily basis and this video is very creative, the culture and history he explains is great. You should hear him now, talking to him a few days ago, this man is still going strong.
Why are people comparing him to tom thum? I didn't know beatboxing was a contest or something. He's not competing with anyone. He's not the best but he's telling a story and he seems passionate about it. Just enjoy the video and quit holding all beatboxers up to some standard you have created for them. It's a shame that I see this on a lot of beatbox videos. Just enjoy :)
Alright that means I’m best
@@mckazoo8766 no it means ur the worst
Exactement !
Tom thum is the best ever !!

skiller and beasty are above reeps one silly! r u a noob or just a dumbass? reeps one lost to skiller 2 times reeps one beat skiller NEVER! beasty beat reeps one reeps one never beat beasty.
Only just started watching, but his inward K snare t-shirt is sweet.
Although I agree his beatbooxing isn't very exciting, I get that he's explaining and telling a story about beatboxing, and in that... it's interesting.
I prefer those who put more of a music style beat to it, rather than those who kind of beatbox battle the rhythm, where it's just really fast paced and clicky
The fact that he actually mentioned The Human Beatbox is enough reason for me to respect the young man.
Dewayne taylor is my uncle he is an amazing beat boxer the art is so hard to perfect much respect uncle.
This was absolutely incredible! Congratulations DeWayne on your success and service as an inspiration to many aspiring beatboxers out there. Seriously, this deserves more views and likes! Let's keep beatboxing as an art form alive! I've seen this guy do several beatbox videos on his channel and he is amazing!
he has gotten a lot better with this demonstration. via 2018. Cornhusker boy state representing
DeWayne is superior to others in that he can clearly identify the history of beat boxing in such a creative manner and with such heart. Love you, man! Shoot for the stars! -Sam
This was awesome! Gave me a lot of beatboxing ideas.

I had never seen such a show before.

Surprised Beardy Man hasn't had a mention in any of these videos in the comments. Pioneer.
He is not supposed to be better than most proffesional beatboxers, hes just one who knows a lot about the evolution about beatboxing. And he tries to show it to peoples.
he played at my school in norfolk
he played at the Johnny Carson Theatre for ms
I’m from Stl

Groove Master!
Beardy Man video's is in the TED website ted.com/speakers/beardyman.html

@ Andrew Yavshits, sorry buddy but iOS doesn't feature any top comments or allow me to respond directly to someone. Nothing wrong with me mate, just the app I'm using. Still, another plug for beardyman couldn't hurt could it? :)
DeWayne Taylor - Evolution of Beatbox
Tom Thum - Revolution of Beatbox
He's good
i always used to beatbox the way he was talking about in the first segment.
That would be super epic if you ask me, but in my opinion, KoreanFX would just wipe the floor with these guys, not saying they are bad or anything, but I mean, KoreanFX has world titles.
it's a stupid thing to pick and choose a better beat boxer here.
this guy presents a history, development of a genre. this is as amazing as Tom Thum.
respect him. It's hard to be a beatboxer.
He's great and his skills are better than mine! Hahahahaha
beatboxers have a really good pronunciation
Not very technical BUT hast that old school style that you can kick a good freestyle to.
I prefer the guy at Ted x talks which is tom thum
dave crowe anad tom thumb wots that mug onna bought
Not k-pom, however I understanding his aspect on it.
Respect to this guy, but could the not find anyone better?
cool
Anyone who actually beatboxes will know that this is one of the best things that have ever happened. None of that dubstep beatboxing shit...
Dub step beatboxing is harder than regular beatboking
Ricardo Brito No doubt, but nothing beats the original beatbox w/ a freestyler dropping bars over top.
YES YES YES YOU MY FRIEND
Beasty's TEDxBordeaux show is better, both at explaining everything (and I don't speak French) and in the actual skills being used. If you like this one you should check out that one.
tom thum is a big beatbox
who is better DeWayne or Beasty ??
Do your thang young brother but I must add the dance " The Dougie " Is just a dance that Doug E Fresh used to do while he performed his rap songs and in his videos, he didn't call it that but that's the origin of the dance.
Tom Thum's the best dude.
but tom thum i think is better, even though he did not really explain much about beat box, but he is amazing
yeah ;D
Do I see a 3-way beatbox battle in the future?
yhea
By a long shot!
i thaught it was great. simple clean beatboxing.
Everyone is saying that he's not that good or others are better but are you able to do a lot of these things?
yes ToM thum is the best! !
LETS RIGHT SOME MUSIC TOGETHER
Even he doesn't have an amazing skill, he still make the audience liked him. Tom thum is better, krnfx is better, because they have more experience.
Thats what you think until you hear yourself beatbox.
12:50 why is he so scared?
NO he hasn't brought me here it was R-E-C-O-M-M-E-N-D-E-D

There's a difference between attending the world championships and competing in them...
lol tough crowd
вот и будут теперь сниться поющие шоколады
olha o carinha do gta ai gente kkk
Con cualquier cosa se emociona la gente ignorante
Tom thum is the best beatboxer
GOOD no Very Good
He forgot Bee-Low -.-
And?
its bad to say that one beatboxer is better than another one every beatboxer has his own style and his own flow some beatboxers have better "beats" than others as some have better flow all of the people who performed at TEDx were all great beatboxers so saying that one beatboxer is better than another one is just wrong all of the beatboxers have their strengths and weaknesses and also it is just a matter of opinion
This goes to show how little people really know about beatboxing...
