As much as I love hearing about silly sized turbos and billet 4g63 engines the F1 stuff really is a glimpse into another world, even if the tech is 20yrs old! More on this HPA please!
Who's in the 'sub club'? While we can't promise you sandwiches, we can promise that you will not miss any more of these awesome Goodwood videos that are lined up. Just make sure you're not just subscribed, but also that you have hit that bell button below the video window to never miss out - Taz 👨🏻
Far out, this was a great video. Awesome questions asked man, it's so nice having a knowledgeable interviewer with an understanding of the subject asking detailed questions.
Great interview. So the upgrade is primarily because of the lack of support by Microsoft of the original (windows 97?) Computer's. Why do these computer's need support from Microsoft? Do they not just work? Is there not independently developed support for this era of computer by now? Btw I see that to install a modern ECU is better and much easier deal with for sure.. just interested as to why the original has become almost impossibly redundant by now?
It's the OS, the hardware, the software, none of which are updated so if there is a bug you are screwed and have potentially wasted a trip to bring the car halfway around the world, the experienced knowledge of the software and hardware is gone from the current crop in the industry and also if something is physically damaged, sourcing a replacement is not something you can do quickly or potentially at all regardless of cost even just for an old laptop that has a battery that works. Lastly, if you have used any kind of modern device I'm sure you understand how they 'should' just work, but often don't for no apparent reason. This is not new sadly! 😂😂 Even the updated gear can have issues, but at least you can pick up the phone or fire an email to work through it with multiple people around the world. That's it in a nutshell - Taz.
Cheers mate, we still have more F1 stuff lined up, but we do like to ve as varied as possible as well. It is interesting to learn about F1 in contrast to other motorsports I reckon =) - Taz.
@@hpa101 right on. Yeah the time attack stuff is amazing too. I subbed finally after watching a vid here and there. This f1/rare stuff i love it if only we could disassemble the f1 engines and examine every part. Keep it up
I recommend using the captions if your English is a bit rough or if you struggle with different accents. They will help in either case and are not those terrible 'auto' ones ;) - Taz.
There Reno in f1 Renaualt however it spelt sell cars truck vans etc I not seen coaches and truck using f1 powers in there road production versions etc.
I also inspired to all coaches and buses etc to allow them to use f1 technology in buses and coaches etc. Back in 2015 that happened hybrid flywheels etc Just wish they created cpc f1 / hgv f1 type series. Just like gt car series Why not cpc or hgv racing series so public coaches and buses etc can use racing technology on public roads.
It is still awesome no matter where they go with it. Even during what many now consider to be the 'glory days' of F1 there were people wishing for it to go back to earlier 'glory days'. Nostalgia is fun like that, you only remember the good bits. I know that wasn't quite the angle of your comment but thought I'd chuck that on anyway =D - Taz.
@@hpa101 thanks for your comment. But yes, it was not the angle of my comment ;) I'm not very nostalgic. I think the racing will benefit from smaller F1 cars. They will still be modern and fast of course. Here is an image where you can see how massive the cars really are today: i.imgur.com/tLuQTeX.jpg?fb
For the purposes of historical, heritage and originality... Would be desirable to keep all the components as though they still function, even if they don’t.
If you value the car as something to be worth as much as possible at auction, possibly, if you value it as something that should be used, why worry I reckon - Taz.
I don't understand the need to modernize? Surely you are not trying to make it go faster? Or are you meaning that the old systems are no longer available so you have to install modern electronics?
'Affordable' is all relative. Compared to many hobbies you could argue that no level of motorsport is affordable to be fair. Even many F1 teams themselves wish they had more money for more development - Taz

I’m loving all the f1 stuff
Absolutely epic segment
Its crazy to think, that just getting to have these chats are near impossible. Great stuff Andre.
I would like to see more on motorsports ECUs, like McLaren, Bosch, magneti Marelli, Cosworth etc.
Andrew Hufman me too. Especially that unique mclaren ecu

Exquisitely detailed automotive tech talk on this channel; outside of a university lecture, not sure I've seen it elsewhere in such abundance.
Great interview, and info.
Great content from Goodwood guys.
Thanks Ben, it was a fantastic trip - Taz.
More on your channel about F1 please 👏
Thanks again for the great content. That must have been a tough job converting that car over.
Lets get this car back to 760hp like it had before and 17000rpm. But still great to see it out and driving on the circuit again 😊
Another top vid andre and team.
What about the Rosberg Williams behind?
Great interview.

The standalone ECU doesn't need support for it to work.
The program to communicate with the ECU to make changes (tuning) needs Microsoft support.

magneti marelli are now the control ECU in motogp.
Yes that change took a bit of adjustment. What's your favourite non-motogp.com source of news from the paddock out of interest? - Taz.

AMAZING !!!
I thought I saw you guys at goodwood! Me and a mate were drooling over montoya's car tried to get him in it since its his favorite 😂😂

My favorite Championship car.
absolute banger
Ahh the old F1 firmware update.

Cmon, the guy was trying to sneak off and Andre had to tackle him and bring him back!
I think that modern f1 should go a little bit back towards the simplistic aero, the low weight en size of this car.
