Viking army was marching without their armor when they were surprised by English. Since surrender was not an option they fought a battle where over 80% of ,Viking army was killed, and remaining went back in fraction of ships used by invasion force. English had heavy losses too which might have decided Battle of Hastings fought against Normans soon after.
Very interesting. If you are interested in Vikings, you may want to follow this thread. I have found a mound in Ringive, Denmark, near Jelling, where according to a lost saga, a king Ring lies. I have done research; think Ringivegaard, a family farm that has gone from father to son for more generations than anybody remembers, may have been a Kings farm. Sigurd has been the firstborn son's name. Sigurd Ring is famous in the Volsunga Sagas. A tribe alliance ("Vikima" = first letters in Vikings, Kikuyus and Maasais) is in Kenya, "the king" (unofficial) is a Sigurd Ring, his father was born on Ringivegaard. The story is intriguing. I would love to tell more, possibly help make a video ...
