When we're talking about George's level of performance we're talking about this extremely rare combination of a huge amount of talent coupled with unswerving commitment and excellent character. "Just practice" will probably get you near the metronome markings BUT it will take a certain ATTITUDE to get you anywhere near that guy's overall level! Believe me, I know what I'm talking about.
I have seen the dvd from a friend of mine 15 years ago and I still remember the excitement i felt when I watched it!
if you didnt buy this dvd, do it now, let me tell you its full of exercises, exelently explained, in slow and fast demostrations, there is so much material and it all gives exelent results.. its a fucking must... the dvd is perfection.
Amazing, i can keep up with speeds he hits (275-280) but for only like 10 secs. hes amazing how he keeps a beat at those speeds and dosent slow or cramp up. He takes the word "Drumming" to a whole new leval Hail George, Hail drumming
you can definitely feel the groove when he drums. i have only had the pleqasure of hearing him from a speakers with a 1000rms sub which is just hypnotically awesome, you can feel your insides tremble when he plays
Adding to Jampis' explanation: when triggered (haha, pun) the trigger sends an electronic signal to the soundboard or w/e so regardless of the softness/loudness of the hit, you hear it. It doesn't make you go faster because you still have to hit the drum to trigger it, but it allows bass drums, for example, to be heard clearly at the speeds these guys play at.
His footwork is outstanding. He must have rocket cars on his feet they move so fast. He is a brilliant drummer. I wish I was that quick. Good stuff indeed.
before I watched that Im just only progressive drummer and trash metal drummer but after I watched that I said '' Im gonna learn this stuff , I really wanted to do that stuff '' after I said that I learned a lot of things on George Kollias about double bass drumming , Hand technique I really wanna thank him because I learned a lot of things on him.
If you guys listen to the song "Chapter of Obeisance before giving breath to the inert one in the presence of the crescent-shaped horns" off of Annihilation of the Wicked, you can hear him to that "against/with the riff"-type drumming.
George Kollias' Australian Drum Clinic tour starts this weekend with Allans Music + Billy Hyde! Tickets just $20 to see Dave Haley from Psycroptic too!
i dont know that much. but i like the tune of his drums. one my friend replace the plastic membrains on his snare and bass drums with plastic wire and instal the triggers and he made it sound nice ;) cheers and good luck with getting sound like that
Yea its a must buy no joke. Everything is really simple, for instance... I knew nothing about different notes but just from watching this I can tell 16th notes from say 16th note triplets and so on... as for the exercises, difficult to master but VERY effective. Buy and you won't regret. I don't. oh and its a pretty long dvd maybe 2+ hours without the special features or so?
Yeah, I've managed to train myself to do that with my right foot, but that's only because most of my time drumming before, I didn't have double bass pedals, so I had to make do with one for a while.
It's a little device that you put on the rimb/part of the drumhead that let you modify/enhance the acoustic sound in a electronic way. Hard to explain, it's a device that kind of makes an acoustic drum in to an electronic one. Or at least partially. Does that make any sense?
el mas rapido que he visto!!! asombroso simplemente este guey tiene pacto con el diablo jejejeje.... mas rapido que thomas lang y ke muchos .... saludos desde Mexico DF... atte. poli ( drummer ).
Actually you probably don't know who would win first, that would be very close, but again.... That's not the point. I would like to see George CREATE a jazz drum solo and have a drum battle with Steve Gadd or Dave Weckl, while they create their own as well. And then you might say vice versa but speed and power doesn't mean everything in drumming, it's rather technique, style, accented rhythm, grooves, melody, etc. And like I said before, I'm not trying to diss George, he's absolutely amazing.

There is simply no way in the world I am not buying this, definately one of the absolute best drummers in the world!
George Kollias is simply god like behind the kit. I've followed everything he's done for years now. Now I'm off to order this dvd!
Unbelievable! I can play the drums pretty well, but George just takes the drums to a higher level of consciousness. Pure art, simply beautiful.
Not my number 1 - but easily the best drummer in the world talent wise probably. He savages all life.
Amazing, i can keep up with speeds he hits (275-280) but for only like 10 secs. hes amazing how he keeps a beat at those speeds and dosent slow or cramp up.
He takes the word "Drumming" to a whole new leval
Hail George, Hail drumming

you can definitely feel the groove when he drums. i have only had the pleqasure of hearing him from a speakers with a 1000rms sub which is just hypnotically awesome, you can feel your insides tremble when he plays

I´m convinced this is the best drummer in all metal music!!this guy dominates all the technicks!!!! George really fucking rules
Damn! That was some of the sickest double bass patterns I've ever heard!
Adding to Jampis' explanation: when triggered (haha, pun) the trigger sends an electronic signal to the soundboard or w/e so regardless of the softness/loudness of the hit, you hear it.

Il genere che ama e che suona richiede questo modo di suonare, non è palestra. Se non ti piace non commentare e basta.
I love the way how Roddy and Kollias mix the groovy and death metal drumming

Yea its a must buy no joke. Everything is really simple, for instance... @JoeyThePhantom George did a 215 bpm double bass run for 2 hours once. He said it to a forum member a few years ago.
this guy and jordison is the best drummers in the world

George he is a beast!! fuck yeah!
So I just got this in today and its well over worth the money spent.
Yeah, I've managed to train myself to do that with my right foot, but that's only because most of my time drumming before, I didn't have double bass pedals, so I had to make do with one for a while.
George, I don't know if you have it planned, but you should seriously release a solo album with material like Aeons of Burning Galaxies.
from 3:44 is sick! eighth notes - triplets - 16th notes - quintuplets - 16th note triplets - septuplets - 32nds!
what double pedal drumming methon is this? Amazing. Amazing drummer.
Yes, he is.
@COBHC279 Actually chris adler does use triggers.
double pedals are black axis longboards, and the hi-hat is dw 9000
When you buy this from Guitar Center does it still come with an autographed poster even now?
thats some of his self composed stuff for the dvd i do believe, hes working on his own album, aeons of burning galaxies is something he wrote
@sebbimon nope,in this dvd he plays Gabriel drums, now Pearl masters kit
ill agree on that, makes my brain melt!
George i s amazing!!
great, can you give me the link of kollias taking the world record in speed?
7:22 when regular double bass just doesn't cut it... :D \m/ George, you're a God :D \m/

Hard to explain, it's a device that kind of makes an acoustic drum in to an electronic one. Or at least partially.
Does that make any sense?
Oh hell yeah, we both play Jackson King V's.
thats not normal dude!! incredible drumming!
thank you :D***
george is god of percussion.
INSANE!!!!!
Hell yeah!
so what kind of muscles do u use when playing swivel technique?
Guy is very tec and the DVD helps alot
When playing sviwel technique, it does not look like it was predictable in well..
Do you think he can play around 3 minutes with this technique?
el mas rapido que he visto!!! asombroso simplemente este guey tiene pacto con el diablo jejejeje.... mas rapido que thomas lang y ke muchos .... saludos desde Mexico DF... atte. poli ( drummer ).
HE IS THE BEST, IS A GOD ON THE EARTH...
@alexkills so where does pert fall in all of that then?
how good do we have to be so i can buy this DVD? I would love to have it but i don't know if it's too much complex stuff for me.
wtf... what is the song that starts 5:45... so insane my head blows off!
@MALSIV More creative than most death metal drummers.
@deadissomewhere
Tim Yeung???Wath band does he play in??
are those longboard or regular axis?
if you don't use heel-toe is there a reason to go longboard?
Actually you probably don't know who would win first, that would be very close, but again.... That's not the point.
