"I'm not going for a conquest victory ... just living space" sounds more like a Hitler quote.
That's roughly what he said, yes.
Gamma Ray this is late, but did he not say Lebenseruam, which is a greater Germany where only one race live (Germans)
You totally lied. Part 9 had a very significant development! You finally built some walls. :P
Not to mention great works apparently showed up for the first time.
DiamondCalibre
So he made Rome great again?
+EHW2 the Germans aren't sending their best. They're sending their raiders, their rapists. Absolutely terrible. This empire is fractured. I'm going to reunite Rome. It's going to be the best schism fixing ever. Absolutely great. Our infrastructure is terrible, in disrepair. Sad. The legionaries have no idea what they're doing. I'm going to make all roads lead to Rome again!
Still the fishing boats are burning, but at least the burning crab boats are replaced by a burning harbour.
fix the pillaged boats already jesus
Brussels! The World's Greatest Military Power!
oh France, so a great strong nation is a huge army to protect their capital Brussels
old joke
Flight in 1100... seems legit... also seems like some balancing is due lol
It's not too far off considering Leonardo da Vinci was born 1450, and as you know he invented the helicopter. To impress the ladies.
I don't think the Eurekas are op, I think they just should be assumed and make the base tech more expensive so you have to get most of them
I've won games with Science victory in 1500 on lower difficulties. Measured by that, this seems perfectly in line with usual Civ difficulty.
Yah the eureka's should probably be dropped to maybe a 25% boost at most. Some major balancing needs to be done, but at least the core game here looks fantastic.
+poilboiler If it had been a helicopter that could actually work I'd be more convinced.
"What is nice is that when I have the Great Scientist selected it highlights all the campi districts out there"
*CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTED IN KYOTO*
"But we don't have any more campi districts around here"
Never change, quill, never change...
Excellent to hear the tech tree read by Sean Bean.
1100 AD and you can build planes? Yep ... there are far too few techs on that tree!
nah he just throttled the map for all its science
Even then it should not be possible.
if you think about it the concept of flight shouldn't be too difficult really if you look at it at the basis flight is really really simple the problem was knowledge wasn't well dispersed during the grecian Era when math and science were truly starting to grow whereas here quill is pushing education and science hard basically taking the Greeks knowledge forcing it to be shared and allowing people to improve naturally
I think the eureka moments need to be balanced
I am worried by three things
1) How quickly research goes when compared to conquest and development of cities, either eurekas do too much or tech costs are too low in general
2) How AI civs are dwarfed by his empire (especially those ancient era city state units while he has gunpowder army...)
3) How far can you go without caring about your underdeveloped cities with no improvements
Well your worries are not totaly unreasonable. But u have to keep in mind that this is (i think) the 3d lowest difficulty. So i can tell you from my experience with other civs, that the game is most propably going to be a cpltly different experience on the 3-4 highest difficulties.
In Civ V the different personalities really got into play when I started playing on emperor. B4 that most of the AIs played the same. Prince in Civ 5 is also eazy as HELL even if you pretty much have no strategie at all. (I played my first Civ 5 game on Prince and fought Pikemen with my tanks even though i didnt think one bit about anything efficient.)
The thech thing - well. I mean one can always play the game on longer gamespeed settings. But hitting the modern ages ~@turn200 sounds very, very fast for standart speed. I mean he did focus on science a lot but well in Civ5 standarts this would be almost legendary even @prince i suppose. I think the eureka bonuses should be totaly randomized so u can start to get it after f.e. kill 3 units with a spearsman but even after 5 kills there is no guarantee to get it. This would make the mecanic more intresting and balanced as going for the eureca would be a gamble. Mabey even varying between - lets say - 25% and 75% (with harder to reach conditions for the bigger numbers) would be cool.(Mod-/DLC-Idea?)
For people who were about to pop an aneurysm like me:
In this episode Quill discovers...
a) that his harbor and fishing boat have been pillaged since basically forever
b) that techs can have an effect on top of the unlocks
c) that districts can be worked by Citizens
d) that city centers count as a district for adjacency bonuses
After shouting at my screen for 9 episodes, it's such a relief to see him finally work it all out!
I cant believe that you didn't put Rome's Industrial District between the 3 Stone sources. It would've given it +3 production. I understand putting it next to the other districts to try and help them, but the massive bonus from the stone should've far outweighed the small district adjacency bonus.
1110 AD in the modern era? technology seems too fast no?
I think this gamemode quick
it's standard
Ah ok...
Not really. Steam engines and batteries existed 2000 years ago, however back then no body really realized how much potential they have. We could have had the industrial revolution a long long time ago. Just because it took us IRL so long, doesn't mean it has to be that way.
Keep in mind, we have a immortal leader here with the knowledge of all the important tech to come without any internal power struggle or what ever. Also in real live people are not necessarily interested in one of the winning strategies that civ is suggesting.
John5200, kind of a lame excuse tbh. The tech tree seems waaaaay too fast. Maybe because they added a civics tree so there are less techs generally?
I dropped by and thought I'd leave my share of backseat gaming, so here it goes:
There are 3 Quarries close to Rome, and a Farm between them. If you replaced that with an Industrial Zone, you should get a +3 adjacency bonus (+6 if you take the policy). I hope this helps (even if the gameplay may have been recorded months ago :P).
Praise the immortal Emperor!
Borbali Emperor knows, how to improve industry.
29:40
A new age begins.
Quill finally realized how Specialists work in Civ VI.
I don't think Quill realizes how amazing baths are. Even already having access to fresh water, that's +4 housing and +1 amenity. That's just insane.
You could have put that industrial zone on top of ostia because it would have gotten the bonus from the harbor and the city center and that way you wouldn't have lost the extra food.
I'm sitting here screaming at him, 'Build the darn trade routes!'. Seriously, they are effective.
You could have built the district with +1 production in the tundra as well.
hes to detail blind sometimes happens to me too
Quill, if I am not mistaken, the devs mentioned Aqueducts don't count for the district limit, so you can always build one. Furthermore, I also believe every special district replacement don't count for the limit either, so you could build your baths regardless.
Finally he figures out the new specialist slots. lol!
I really like the district thing wasn't sure I would but it adds a whole other level of play
Planes in 1100, definitely a test build
I really like the series. also i watched your civ 6 tutorial, but I wish you went all the way with it because this letsplay goes a lot more in depth with the things you didn't cover in the tutorial like religion and districts and so much more
I remember the ancient history about Rome and how they expanded greatly with the use of tanks, Do anyone else remember that tale? I didn't finish it but I have heard that it ends with Gandi ending the world with nukes! The old world that was!
9:00
Um, why wouldn't you simply build the district in that hill tile right above the city? It would have saved the farm, still would have the district bonus, and would also be even better being on a hill.
Build your industrial zones next to mines, you kept on building them away from mines but they get an adjacency bonus.
so basicly your saying the tech tree is not balanced
the tree was never balanced (but now it's just so sparse and so little techs and far quicker to getting to new eras which i dislike)
There are actually two tech trees, one driven by science the other by culture. So it is not sparse, it is just spread out.
VarietyGamer i mean like a lot of things that were techs are now added onto other techs and are no longer separate ones
LeaderofChickens
However with the new card based policy system it creates a whole new dynamic, alongside the district system. There is simply more game. As vanilla version, this competes with civ 5 + all expansions. Even outdoes it in areas. That's awesome. 1-2 expansions of its own and this will be the greatest civ game ever conceived.
you know what would be awesome? an diplomatic victory , i realy like being the president of the world... by bribing every single city-state in the world
Omg, you referenced traveling salesman problems!
The fact that he still hasn't explored the rest of the map is the thing that irks me the most :P but I love the look at Civ VI and am very thankful! Thanks Quill!
I can't sleep without this shit anymore, please do more civ VI
You are like Morgan Freeman
27:34 Be careful Quill don't wanna melt your face!
OH THANK GOD HE NOTICED THE PILLAGED FISH.
Quill you need to read the district descriptions a bit better buddy, especially since you are still learning the ropes - "Industrial Zone: +1 production bonus for each adjacent MINE", as in the mercury mine you could have put Velitrae's Industrial Zone right next to...You've made similar mistakes several times now, such as not realizing that Holy Sites benefit from forests, and building a city right up next to a mountain (when the district system makes it so that you want your cities to have as much space around them as possible, since city centers are districts and can be used to buff up surrounding districts with the adjacency bonus). You mentioned keeping a list of the conditions neccesary for some of the better wonders handy as you play, and I think that that is a really good idea for districts as well, at least until it all becomes second nature to you. Have you ever tried Endless Legend? It has a system kind of sort of similar to Civ 6's district system, so maybe thinking about this game as if it were an Endless Legend game might help you along. Anyways, I get that sometimes it is hard to keep up the dialogue AND maintain quality gameplay, but I think if you took a moment each time to stop and read the descriptions of each building and district out loud it would both help your strategy as well as inform your viewers - something like that makes sense for such a new game, you know?
I wish he would build an Industrial zone district just above the marsh in Rome. It would get +3 production from the 3 adjacent quarries.
"Had 8 city states, and 1 capital." "says Brussels is the dominating force." XD
Hello Quill , I like your videos very much. I have a few comments regarding this play through.
You had a great start, but did not go for the Stonehenge [which would have given you a religion and a holy site (you started with Stone and Spain had to build a new city to acquire stone in it's borders and than build the Stonehenge )]. (This was a mistake IMHO)
Then you built a campus in Rome [I know this is a first play through, and you experimented with stuff, but that was a mistake(you are a science addict :) )].
You have no production but have a lot of science which you can't use cause every building you try to make takes forever to be build. You went overboard with science and this is a mistake I see in your plays quite often, you are focused on Science to much and forget to balance production as well. What good is if you can build planes in 1100 AD, but it takes you a 100 years to build one :) and Brussels destroys with a bowman, or look I can build planes but I am fighting with Legions.
Also you build a lot of military units [which turned out fine, since you conquered 2 civilizations (till this moment)], but you haven't build any military districts.
Also you took little advantage of All roads lead to Rome caravan bonuses.
Hope you read this and take advantage of my feedback.
Have a nice day and keep posting this awesome videos!
That's actually everything I thought and had to critizise too. Thanks for this thoughtful comment.
Well, science is the most important yield in Civ V, so I understand why he is going overboard with science in Civ VI.
I got a kick out of you suggesting implementing a greedy algorithm just to track districts. It does seem this game is a bit more complex than previous iterations. I'm very much looking forward to playing later this month.
The tech tree needs some work. Obviously too fast, even on Prince, he hasn't been playing that optimally and is new to VI but modern in 1100AD? Not to mention he's got Legionnaires still but has flight researched.
He has some focus on science but he's not gone all out, as people learn more about good builds/wonders I can see them getting really really fast. There's no science penalty for higher difficulties, just you need to do other things.
With regards to the units, yes I know he can upgrade but there hasn't been much opportunity. It's hard to tell from just the few games I've seen but it just seems like the pacing between economy (gold) and science is off.
I guess I jumped in a bit too soon with that comment, can't really tell from just observing a couple games but with the thinner tech tree (with a lot moved to the civic tree) I wouldn't be surprised if it needs some adjustment.
I guess the main problem is that Prince is pretty much a joke where you can face roll with Legions at 1100AD while being in the modern era.
woooow brussels got so much protection from the mountains :P
Baths/Aqueducts don't affect how many districts you can build
No cuts... moreeeee *rocks back and forth*
"There's no direction on this upgrade tree"
you know, except top to bottom, since the best ability is on the bottom and you start at the top :P
It took you 10 episodes to realize cities were district *FACEPALM*
Modern era in 1100...makes me wonder how much internal playtesting happens these days, or if they just take notes watching everyone else play. I mean, we're down to three weeks until release.
Need this in my life nao! :(
Don't turn on Quick Combat before we even get a chance to see Aircraft combat or Ship combat. =(
Quill finds the Ark of the Covenant. Unexpected.
Quill, i think you can boost the making of distrikts with workers
it would be cool if you could actually take the Arc of the Covenant into battle as a support unit.
Missed out on the venetian wonder because of your placement of the industrial centre in Ostia.
Hope you play a multiplayer with Marbozir at some point
Looks like France is about to declare war... They've got tons of units near Velitrae :(
I'm pretty sure districts that are unique to a civ, like the baths, don't count towards the district limit.
Try looking at the science district in Kyoto, you might not have to wait 60 turns with that scientist.
A lot of the production structures seem to be in the encampments... which you haven't built. That's probably why you have crap production.
and no need for iron
Well it is on prince difficulty too, let's be real.
Hey Quill, how come you didn't prioritize building more Builders? It seems like they would've been more efficient to boost production with. Maybe it's just Civ 5 instincts that stopped you?
Yes, Quill, the Cities DO count as districts.
Next game after Norway and Rome play a cultural victory type game, I want to see how that works in Civ VI
seems to me that tech progress is wayyyy to fast. You have flight but your units all use swords
Muskets are CENTURIES off from the combustion engine ... so it does NOT make sense.
That is because they upgrade musketeers to infantrists, the boost required 3 musketeers. But the research is not about musketeers it is about an upgrade of them. Which historically came around the same time as flight (modern Era)
This is a big part of the reason why I normally play on marathon game speed in Civilization games. It was even worse back when base movement was 1, as movement was ridiculously slow compared to tech development. Essentially, if you sent an army somewhat far away, it would be obsolete by the time it arrived.
Skyscrapers in the the Middle Ages?
Hmm looking like balance will need to be sorted out, steam rolled into 1170ad and modern age, even on that difficulty shoul be a bit more stretched out
I think he should've gone Merchant Republic, seeing how he halted the war effort :)
R.I.P Ships on Ostia. :D
Did he bulid a didtrict on the crab near Ostia?
Yes. Then another on a farm when an empty hill north of the city gave the same bonus.
Baths don't count toward district cap because civilization specific districts do not affect the cap similar to how civ specific units don't require strategic resources.
You keep missing a pillaged fish and pillaged faith district. I can't really blame you though since the game needs to make it more clear what tiles are pillaged since it is hard to see
Civic cards do go obsolete Quill
Are you suggesting that, for example, the civic that provides a bonus to building classical era military units isn't available in the modern era?
poilboiler most civic cards will go obsolete after another civic card is researched
Which I feel is entirely appropriate, having a bunch of civic cards of the same type could end up way too powerful
adisander yeah and some just don't make sense to have in the modern era either
+1 for mentioning travelling salesman algorithm.
I don't like how quick the animation is for the movement and combat now, especially the combat.
One thing I have noticed is cities damaging units basically do nothing whereas they used to be quite deadly in civ v
Might be because of it only being Ancient Walls
Could be but he was shooting a quinquereme which is an ancient ship and was doing hardly anything
Shout out to the TSP, good ol' NP
Lol, I guess I'll do as I did with Civ 5. Wait for a couple of expansion before I buy. Modern era at 1100 without even trying to rush tech...
at settler difficulty
At prince difficulty. And even the AI is far ahead of real world progression
Sorry, got that wrong.
So the districts are hex based and they give adjacency bonuses?
Maybe someone on Firaxis played Growth Industries.
Done some graph theory have we?
Why is it called a bettering ram if it makes walls worse?
It's actually called a BATTERYng ram, sir. It needs batteries to work.
Damn, you should call yourself Chernobyl, 'cause you're gonna give us all cancer...
no it has Samsung batteries, which explode and tear down the wall
The better you are the lower the wall gets. If you are even remotely competent there won't be a wall at all.
Not if trump is elected
Jesus this is going fast
According to the devs, the baths and other unique districts shouldn't count towards your district cap.
Quill you missed the +2 science at 26:46!
I have Ostia perosis
Do you think Firaxis made Quill a special version where Brussels is an OP monster?
Lots of Zerglings doesnt make you OP ... it just makes you annoying.
so ive noticed that he was having trouble with the term 2 science per civ with the college. well now if he looks at the college tile he can put two civs on the tile cus it says its 0-2
You start to go on an attack with Legions, by the war finishes you have researched flight... Also not a fan of districts... and 1 UPT.
why at 1090 ad the cities are already sky scrapers?
meet the final boss.... BRUSSELS
Why don't they make it so your units move at normal pace but the ai moves at a sped up pace? I like to see the animations on my units. Unless I'm at war with someone I don't need to see their movements.
Tfw when ostia is still getting raided 😂😂😂
You know, I'm surprised in a day and age where people are so overly sensitive that people don't get butthurt over building "Plantations" in a video game.
I suppose now that I've thrown that out there, here comes the fake rage.
Please repair the pillaged fish :c
the retail version is unfair, I had met 5 other civilizations, and all were friendly. None of them had founded a religion yet. Then America founded protestantism. I didn't found a religion yet so we were still friendly. But when I founded my own religion America declared war on me. I was much stronger than America and I would've won, but then America wanted to make peace and they gave me lots of resources too. So I accepted, but as soon as America recovered they declared war on me again. I was about to win again, and then America wanted to make peace again. I accepted it again, because they gave me lots of resources again. But I knew that as soon as they recovered again, they would declare war on me again. So I got a few troops to their city and then declared war on them again. But then all 4 other civilizations denounced me because because they thought that I was a warmonger???
remove the marsh = remove the requirement for 2 world wonders : mont st michel
Is there no Civ Demographics screen anymore?
What does the incredibly tiny checkmark button do under the gold readout?
Center of town is a district
so the more of the same type of stuff you group together the better it is?
you took advantage of the natural wonder?
Hey Quill, why not do a Total War game Let's Play and collab with some other Total War RUclipsrs like PixelatedApollo, Lionheart, WarriorofSparta, JackieFish, and more?
why are there so many goddamn Churchill quotes
I hope they change the year / turn rate... seems silly every game ive seen played that you get to modern era so quickly.
Shouldn't Kyoto have much better production? I think it is just put on another focus.
Flight before radio or electricity? Right.
What's up with the outline of some cities turning black occasionally?
