I put mine outside for 2-3 weeks at the end of September. I just brought it inside and it has buds all over it. The night time temps here in Pittsburgh have been 45 to 65. I do this every year and it does the trick.
I have one that a friend gave me when she was moving in with her son. Huge and gorgeous... ALWAYS BLOOMING. I gave it to my dil and her dogs chewed up a lot of it so she gave it back to me lol. I've gotten it to double in size and it's now blooming all over... finally! So lovely 😍
I put mine in the window where it can get sun but it is cool at night. It was transferred from the original pot to a larger, and it has grown tremendously. I also pruned it by twisting of the tips on the very end, all around the whole plant. I did this around July, I think. And now it is September, and the tips have turned reddish, and flowers are beginning to bud. Yes, I agree do not overwater it let the soil dry a bit. It is a cactus after all. pruning it was very beneficial, like with any other plant. Thanks for your tips and for sharing.
They really bloom in cooler season. Here in Sydney they bloom in winter which is June till august sometimes till September for late bloomers. They’re called ZYGO here in Australia. They grow by cutting
I'm confused about the blooming of my Xmas / thanksgiving cactus. It never stops blooming all year long! I have 2 in two different places and they both have never gone dormant in 3 years. Can you explain?
Hi..great video..thx..when is the best time and how often should fresh soil be added,or transplanted to a bigger pot? And when is the best time to make new plants from cutting?in the spring or whenever? Thanks so much
Hi! Thank you very much 🌿 you typically don’t have to repot your Christmas cactus until several years (2-4yrs) has passed But you can watch for roots growing out of the pot, that is a sign that it may be crowded. This is best done in the spring after the flowers have completely bloomed and wilted off. The same can be said for the best time to take cuttings 🌿 Thanks for checking out the channel and happy gardening
I have 4 of the Xmas cacktus they arnt in bud yet but one of them is flowering and the flower drops of I put them in my bathroom and one in my front room on my dining table any advice on how to water in november and light thank u
So... I bought a thanksgiving cactus about 2-3 weeks ago, it was in bloom and before I watched any care videos I repotted it. sigh.... well it is in a larger pot, #1 mistake. I tried not to disturb the roots too much, ? mistake? I don't know. My question is... 1. do you put your cactus into darkness even during the bloom or just to get it to start to bloom. and 2. does it have to be below 65 in general , especially during darkness? It still looks good in spite of me,,,,,, so far anyway,,,,, I'm fighting the temptation to repot again but using a clay pot instead of the ceramic one I potted it in when it got home. any thoughts? thanks
Cactus is very beautiful but I believe it's a Thanksgiving Cactus instead of a Christmas cactus because it looks like it has the Crab Claw things that the end of it where as a Christmas cactus is more scalloped and it flowers hang down and are usually not that color and it is very difficult to find the original Christmas cactus I have been blessed to have one and I also have the Thanksgiving Cactus which I'm very appreciative of
Thank you for your nice VDO. I do not know the actual potting media for this nice cactus. Here no readymade potting media is available. So i need to prepare. I need help.
hey, so i have a question. My stand on the window which is pretty cold (it's marble and the room is very cold right now as it is, about 19 degrees celcius, but i fear that i don't shade it enough, because the window has my desk right next to it, and the desk has a lamp. do you think this could be the reason why it doesn't want to bloom? in which case, do you recommend i move it to another room where there won't be any artificial light during nighttime?
@@ExpeditionHomestead I sure hope so... But also it's November and it still hasn't developed any new buds, do you think it's probably too late for that this year?
Stephaine Howard then I would put back to its sunny location and slowly begin to increase the watering. Be back at the normal watering schedule by late February
I got one and leaves seems very dull its not stiff at all..we have tropical climate and am now keeping this plant inside with indirect light and not watering it much
I wish I could keep mine outside all year round! Unfortunately Wisconsin weather isn't so forgiving haha how many years have you had your Christmas Cactus?
My red xmas cactus is just full of blooms, I water once a year with plant food and keep in my office. That's the only spot where the cactus will bloom.
My caucus had blooms when I bought it, but they came in smaller and drier and then eventually I got tiny blooms so dry that they fall off just being touched, and drier than a cracked? What did I do wrong??
I have a little plastic circular bottle filled that I want you to have for the boys. I don't know how I'm going to get it to you next time you're here we have to finagle it. Or Matthew and Mason's college
Just made a video HOW and WHEN to Repot Your Christmas Cactus! ruclips.net/video/vwdEo4bLij8/видео.html They can go many years without repotting but I’d recommend every 3-5 years
I was looking up videos for Christmas cactus care and came across yours. Your plant is not a Christmas cactus, it is a Thanksgiving cactus. If you are to educate the people, please educate them with the correct facts. Thanks

Very beautiful. I want to have a Chridtmas Cactus and propagate it for more ...😘😘😘

Love your passion. What an amazingly strange plant. Love those green segments.
Thank you 😊 they are a mist have 🌿
What temperature does it tolarate?
What type of fertilizer or plant food do you use

You’re welcome!! Good luck with your cactus this year 😃🌿

You're welcome
No wonder mine wouldn’t flower. I was keeping it in the sun and watering ever my couple days lol
Welllll hopefully this helps! 😊
I need your help to make it so happy
Because my Christmas cactus looks so sad
Thanks for the tips!

Laila Maleque 1/3 regular soil, 1/3 small composed wood chips, 1/3 coarse sand. :) there’s a great homemade recipe for you

I think you're right in that assumption! Moving it to an area that doesn't recieve the supplimental lighting should help induce it to bloom 🌿
@@ExpeditionHomestead I sure hope so... But also it's November and it still hasn't developed any new buds, do you think it's probably too late for that this year?
No definitely not too late yet!
My Christmas cactus has one bloom!
Is it ok to spray it with water ?I red that it likes humidity?and how often would that be ?thank you so much
You can most it every couple of days if you would like to.🌿
Yes every 2 weeks. and i moved it to a inderect light.
Cathy 111363 still too much water. Once every three weeks to a month.. how many hours of Zero light does it get each night?
Do you have Christmas yellow color?
Since it’s after Christmas what should I do now. Do I put it back in the dark or and water it still every two weeks like all the other plant babies
Has it bloomed for you?
Yes it bloomed in November but not for me in December
Stephaine Howard then I would put back to its sunny location and slowly begin to increase the watering. Be back at the normal watering schedule by late February
No closed caption? Can you please add or put cc on youtube. Please let me know. Thanks
I also live in Wisconsin
My dog's name is Ripley
I got one and leaves seems very dull its not stiff at all..we have tropical climate and am now keeping this plant inside with indirect light and not watering it much
Water it freely. Let the water drain out the bottom of the pot.
Awesome job! I have one too :)
How can you tell the color of your cactus before it blooms?
My Christmas cactus is outside around the year place at the main entrance blooms every year from November to april.
I wish I could keep mine outside all year round! Unfortunately Wisconsin weather isn't so forgiving haha how many years have you had your Christmas Cactus?
How do I read my cactus to know if it’s stressed? 😬
Sometimes I heard that you don’t have to force it.As long as the room is un-heated and near a window,It will bloom guaranteed during winter
👍
Mine is covered in blooms how long dose it take for the blooms to open
I’ve always noticed that they open up at various times but usually within 2 weeks you should start to see the show :)
Do you keep yours by the window at all year?
I sure do!
We live in south west florida but it is at least 10 year old
Very nice! Hopefully it will continue to thrive for many many more years to come! Happy Gardening
I am sure Reggie will be covered
My red xmas cactus is just full of blooms, I water once a year with plant food and keep in my office. That's the only spot where the cactus will bloom.
Richard Stromberg wow it must be pretty humid there if you only have to water once a year!!
My caucus had blooms when I bought it, but they came in smaller and drier and then eventually I got tiny blooms so dry that they fall off just being touched, and drier than a cracked? What did I do wrong??
Why are the buds of my Christmas cactus falling?
My Christmas cactus just lost its flower bud. Thanks for your explanation. I was keeping it under my Led sunblasters... It doesn't know it's xmas 😂
How do you get the Thanksgiving cactus to bloom again?
ruclips.net/video/fwbYFwn2NNo/видео.html
It's Actually a Thanksgiving Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata Hybrid). The True Christmas Cactus is Schlumbergera buckleyi.
Hi edagdwg thanks for sharing love my Christmas catus mine doesn't blom to fast Linda j ☮️❤️ ❤️💯 💯
You're welcome! Yeah patience is key when they tend to only bloom once a year if you're lucky
Hello, What I meant was I use plant food once a year , but water about every two weeks. Thank You
That makes much more sense haha Thanks for clarifying. Happy Gardening!
can you put Christmas cactus in the closet
If your closet has grow lights in it.. otherwise it will just die
@@ExpeditionHomestead No, I don't have grow light in closet. So what should I do.
Input mine in the closet at night and then onto the sill starting October. 🇨🇦
@@ashleighjaimaosborne3966 So you don't leave it in the closet all the time. You put it out during the day
