    I put mine outside for 2-3 weeks at the end of September. I just brought it inside and it has buds all over it. The night time temps here in Pittsburgh have been 45 to 65. I do this every year and it does the trick.

      I have one that a friend gave me when she was moving in with her son. Huge and gorgeous... ALWAYS BLOOMING. I gave it to my dil and her dogs chewed up a lot of it so she gave it back to me lol. I've gotten it to double in size and it's now blooming all over... finally! So lovely 😍

    I put mine in the window where it can get sun but it is cool at night. It was transferred from the original pot to a larger, and it has grown tremendously. I also pruned it by twisting of the tips on the very end, all around the whole plant. I did this around July, I think. And now it is September, and the tips have turned reddish, and flowers are beginning to bud. Yes, I agree do not overwater it let the soil dry a bit. It is a cactus after all. pruning it was very beneficial, like with any other plant. Thanks for your tips and for sharing.

    And when is the best time to make new plants from cutting?in the spring or whenever?Thanks so much

      @ExpeditionHomestead  5 лет назад +6

      Hi! Thank you very much 🌿 you typically don’t have to repot your Christmas cactus until several years (2-4yrs) has passed But you can watch for roots growing out of the pot, that is a sign that it may be crowded. This is best done in the spring after the flowers have completely bloomed and wilted off. The same can be said for the best time to take cuttings 🌿 Thanks for checking out the channel and happy gardening

    So... I bought a thanksgiving cactus about 2-3 weeks ago, it was in bloom and before I watched any care videos I repotted it. sigh.... well it is in a larger pot, #1 mistake. I tried not to disturb the roots too much, ? mistake? I don't know. My question is...
    1. do you put your cactus into darkness even during the bloom or just to get it to start to bloom. and
    2. does it have to be below 65 in general , especially during darkness?
    It still looks good in spite of me,,,,,, so far anyway,,,,,
    I'm fighting the temptation to repot again but using a clay pot instead of the ceramic one I potted it in when it got home.
    any thoughts?
    thanks

    Cactus is very beautiful but I believe it's a Thanksgiving Cactus instead of a Christmas cactus because it looks like it has the Crab Claw things that the end of it where as a Christmas cactus is more scalloped and it flowers hang down and are usually not that color and it is very difficult to find the original Christmas cactus I have been blessed to have one and I also have the Thanksgiving Cactus which I'm very appreciative of

    hey, so i have a question. My stand on the window which is pretty cold (it's marble and the room is very cold right now as it is, about 19 degrees celcius, but i fear that i don't shade it enough, because the window has my desk right next to it, and the desk has a lamp. do you think this could be the reason why it doesn't want to bloom? in which case, do you recommend i move it to another room where there won't be any artificial light during nighttime?

    • @ExpeditionHomestead
      @ExpeditionHomestead  5 лет назад

      I think you're right in that assumption! Moving it to an area that doesn't recieve the supplimental lighting should help induce it to bloom 🌿
