This is not an over reaction on the part of Merzlikins. He was not imagining the attempted dirty and subtle play to cause major injury. Players like Wilson and Kadri have perfected the nasty of the nasty… Kadri is a true master and a great example. He has a history of making multiple “accidental” contact with a goal tender. In each instance, there was nothing noticeable to cause injury in the process. However, the result was always the same…the targeted goalie was often injured, out of the game, and on injured reserve. If this happened once, it could be argued. Twice, it could be argued a coincidence. Three plus times… it’s subtle, sneaky, and intentional. I’ll never forget what Kadri did to Binnington during the Stanley Cup Finals a few year back. He did the same to another goalie the same time frame.

That's what some players do to draw penalties Wilson and Marchand get under players skin to throw them off their game. sometimes it backfires they get the penalties if other players are wise to that and control their temper.
You know a punch comes from the hip, and a point of impact on an edge condenses energy. The goalie blocker is probably the second most dangerous thing on the ice when it comes to equipment, skates being #1 imo, tbh this is the reason why I don't get it in my head to actually fight someone, cause I really might use everything to my advantage since I'm also in a lot bulkier gear. You run into a complex of being at disadvantage, but also with the biggest gun. You would feel nothing punching someone in a blocker, it would definitely hold up to punching someone as hard as you can, and catch your hand evenly on the impact. I could 1 inch punch a rib and break it, but you don't. You could also 1 inch punch a rib and break it in a goalie blocker, if you weigh more than 40kg.

I think this is why he allows himself to have a bit of fun, because he knows he isn't really staying for the long run there. With his expensive contract and the Jacket's disappointing performance, I believe they're up for a sort of restructuring

TL;DR, strome had a great set up pass that led to the goal. They covered ovi pretty well tonight, but strome just threaded the gap in the defense. They do cover him. On the 4 on 3, one person covers Wilson in front of the net, one contests the wing when they have the puck, in this case strome (who leads the team in goals), and one watches the pass lane to ovi / cover Carlson. If they commit fully to ovi without the play developing, it’s a 3 on 2, less chance of saving it. They did rotate to ovi BUT, it was the guy who originally covered Wilson instead of the point hawk. Bad coverage. There’s a reason ovi hasn’t scored much on the PP this year. Defenses have played man on himZ
I can understand why goalies are so upset lately. guys just don't care about avoiding the blue ice anymore and just skate full speed into the goalie, any chance they get. the league doesn't care and unlike in past years, team mates won't stand up for their goalies either. it's pretty sad.
Us goalies are treated like punching bags because PRIORITY ONE for us is THE PUCK. Defensemen constantly push opponent players on us, we get run into "accidently", people whack at us with sticks when they know fully well we have control of the puck, get a 100 MPH shot in the head but ref doesn't want to stop the play, etc. etc.. So yeah, excuse us if once in a while we lose our temper at the player who is "the last straw". 😉 (BTW, our concentration on the game is great. Actually, it's us that become a distraction for the other team when we strike and not the other way around. After a scuffle, we get right back into the game without a second thought)
