    We were always told in the army to let them idle because stopping and starting the engine caused more mechanical wear and tear. So I guess the opposite is true?

    • @johndowe7003
      @johndowe7003 4 года назад +1

      in the army they get the shit ran outta them by crayon eaters all day and night, totally different from gramps or some skinny weenie kid puttering around the yard. whole different ball game. but yes letting it idle while youre working it isnt bad at all.

    Thanks for the reply.. I think I asked before but cant remember Those are 11:00x20's on the deuce and they fit in the rear on ? No spacers or different rims?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  2 года назад +1

      Correct. They go right on. Zero mods or spacers or anything. Make sure you use tubes meant for radial tires, not Bias ply tires. There is a difference in tubes.

    What would be considered too much oil coming out the exhaust? And what would need to be done if the oil and fuel seems to be mixing?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  11 месяцев назад

      You won't have actual oil coming out of the exhaust unless you have a destroyed piston, which would cause a dead miss on one cylinder, or ifyour turbo was destroyed. This is only ever unburnt fuel mixed with exhaust carbon. You really shouldn't get any at all unless you're idling the truck too much. Get it out on the road and run it hard to clean it up.
      Look at my injection pump videos to see everything you need to do in order to stop fuel getting into your oil.

  • @johndowe7003

    not only is idling bad but so is puttering around, give that som bitch a good run and put a load on it, those diesels need to be ran hot(not overheated) . the rings get stuck and you lose compression when the motor isnt worked hard , happens in old tractors & equipment all the time.

    I have a question, you say these trucks start easy in the cold, I replaced my multifuel maybe a month before winter and ever since that has been one of the coldest blooded engines I’ve personally seen and usually won’t start easily even in 40 degree weather, is that just how the engine is or is there anything you’d recommend checking on it? Thanks

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  4 года назад +1

      Something is up with the pump. Not getting enough fuel at the start position.

    Well, what would you recommend about warming up the engine/turbo before running the engine at operating RPM?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  4 года назад +6

      Idle it long enough for the temperature gauge to start moving, then drive it easy until you reach operating temperature.

    I have a question. The lines coming out of the top of my hydraulic head are wet, and making the whole area wet and truck hard to start. I think the lines aren't sealed well there. What's a easy repair? What's the best place to start searching for the problem? I have a pic if you like me to send.

    • @makerwright
      @makerwright 4 года назад +2

      They might just be a bit loose, and/or might have some crud on the ends. I've found that an 11/16" flare nut wrench cut off to about 6" can help to get into those tightly-grouped line nuts easier. If you do decide to take the ends loose to clean them, clean off the HH and surrounding area very well beforehand so you don't get any dirt down into the head in the process. Don't crank on the line nuts, or the one in the center of the head too much or the HH might crack.

    • @tacticalrepair

      Break them loose and tighten them again.

    Haha mine sprayed oil all over the place today. So I looked this up and found this video. I idled it for 5 hours 2 weeks ago on waste oil. It had been sitting for 2 months and I wanted to run fuel through it. Never new this was an issue. Need to fix the turn signals and get the on the road again!
    Any tips on buying troop seats and a cover for the bed? I’m in Maryland. Someone told me to go to the Aberdeen military show. I want to make my 53 look like it was in the Korean War, what color should I look for? Do they make them in waxed canvas?

    By "idle too much" do you mean more than 5 min? I usually idle 5 min after start and 5 min before turning the engine off.

    I really like you channel and the great information you are putting out. I do have to ask where do you get your parts for these trucks? Do you have a supplier that deals in these kind of parts or do you find them on line? I would like to get into owning one of these but not if I can't get the parts to keep them running.

    What do you think is the max allowable idle time before it starts causing issues? I know the turbo needs a 5 min cool down at idle.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  3 года назад +2

      It's not really an issue, just messy and can cause increased long term wear. As long as you get it out on the road and work it hard to burn it all off I wouldn't worry about it.

    Thanks I appreciate the information, but after running hard for a while before shutting it off I was told by a Dodge user that you need to let it idle to cool off the turbo. Im not a diesel engine guy in fact this is my first one. Just asking hope I don't sound like a douche
