Good ideas, new to the multi fuels myself, but not new to big diesels. I recently bought a deuce, between your videos, and bits from the steel soldiers forums, has been a learning experience... Appreciate the deuce specific maintenance videos, have saved me from some mistakes...
Glad to see you back. Once we get finished setting up at the new place I cannot wait to start upgrading my duece. All goes well I'll have some info I can pass around after I really get into it. Going to need the big boy to do lots of work soon; these kinds of upgrades will be close to the top.
Wow Garrett ! Dam that's a bit of knowledge, IM scratching my head 🧐from remembering from some times when I had helped with some engine repairs and others rebuilding some. I'm keeping up with your in depth information. I mean I did follow along a bit but so much to learn about. you are a gold mine when it comes to these vehicle's. one day I hope you will be back in the states with your own business & shop again but I understand it takes time to do what you got to do for now. Hey G-man I did something stupid, I wasn't thinking and had my Park brake on and moved my truck about 30 yards and got out & smelled the drum brake, could I have messed anything up? it seams to still be working, may I have weakened anything? Take care we are always thinking about you over there. Your missed and glad to see your smiling face now and then. take care Pard.- from Appalachia by God.🤠
Great to see you posting again, Garrett. You sound like you are in a better head space than you were a while ago.🫡👍👍 Question reference the version of the engine in M543A2: we appear to have blown out the frost plug on the back end of our forward head as she's leaking a lot of water when we run it (never more than 5 or so minutes as we run tests). We got the valve cover off and swept a hacksaw blade through the gap between the two heads and there is something right about where the frost plug should be. We'll be pulling off the rockers and the injectors so we can pull that head. We've got a brand new late pattern head gasket, intake and exhaust gasket, and a valve cover gasket. Will a commercially available frost plug fit or is the darn thing sone weird size that I have to order online? Related question, do I need to put anything on the new head gasket when we reinstall the head? Cheers from the rapidly cooling Great White North!😁🍺🍺🍁
@tacticalrepair We are still at it, having been interrupted several times with higher priorities these last two weeks. Is there a trick to getting at the three stud nuts under the injectors? We pulled the injectors as per the manual and stoll can't get a shallow socket on. We have tried to get a crow's foot wrench on them and a shallow socket with a flex coupling... no luck at all. I have a spare 7/8 socket that I'm going to cut down, but I thought I'd check in with you first! Good luck with the Bar!! Cheers! Mike 🫡😁👍🍁🍁
🤔Before I bought my 1953 REO with the 331 gasser... I test drove a few of the MF units.. Wasn't much of fan the engine, and I didn't know about any of these "known" issues😮Glad I went with the gas unit now😎obsolescence I can handle, having all those issues would be a no go for ME on top of the obsolete technology😉
Would eliminating the 20 seconds of no oil pressure help with connecting rod failure? I put a primer pump on mine so it has a little oressure before the engine starts and then the pressure comes up right away after it fires up.
Good ideas! Do you think it is nessesary to plan the heads? I've done my head gaskets 3 years ago and now I have a little bit of oil coming down the block underneath the heads in the passenger side.
@@1992bacardiblack not always, but it's a good idea to check them for flatness if you have them off. A hot retorque of your head studs would probably stop that leak.
Would putting a marine 5.9 cummins in be a good idea? If i smoke the motor im cummins swapping it. I like the mutifuel, but getting parts over the counter is preferable.
I'm planning on doing a Disck Break swap on my m35a2 My question was, if I do Swap over to disk Brakes. Knowing originally I have to use dot five With the old system. Knowing the new brakes are coming off of a F350 Dully and a lincoln continental break line Would it be feasible to stay with dot 5 or can I go Lower. Just want to know your Opinion is. Thanks.

@@tacticalrepair thanks. I was having trouble getting my engine to run after a rebuild. Turned out the in-tank hose popped off my lift pump at the same time as my lower end shredding itself. I’ll look into this if I have more problems.

P.S. how do you know you got a good head gasket, what to search or look for? id their a certain part name or number to look for?

@@majmikecalnan should be a standard size plug. You don't really need to put anything on the gasket, but copper coat won't hurt.
