  • Why Salento Puglia? We visit 20 beaches!
Yes that's right we will show you around 20 beaches in the Salento region of Puglia as well as beachside towns that we visited this year. The whole Salento penninsula is a coastline of beaches and seaside towns. The beaches in Puglia are a popular attraction during the summer months.
Some of the areas included in our visits are Otranto, Torre dell'Orso, Sant Andrea, Gallipoli, Castro Marina, Cala dell'Acquaviva, Grotta Zinzulusa, Santa Cesarea Terme, Porto Cesarea , Marina Serra and many more. We visited more than 20 beaches both on the East and West Coast of the heel of Italy in the Salento region of Puglia. The East coast faces the Adriatic Sea and the West the Ionion Sea, both have stunning seaside villages and pristine beaches. The contrast between the East and the West coast can be seen in this video.

We love your channel as you provide such a refreshing locals viewpoint on Salento. My husband and I visited Puglia for the second time this year and going back again next year. Like you, we are Australians who loved the beaches in this region... particularly Santa Caterina al Bagno, Porto Prescuitto and Pescalusa and of course, Porto Tricase. We have made lots of notes on news ones from this video of yours. Thankyou so much for your insights and sharing your knowledge. So many people skip the best parts of Puglia but we are glad to have discovered this gorgeous part of Italy. ❤.

Is there a water temp difference between the Adriatic and Ionian?

Yes Chris we found a difference between the two coasts. Many of the beaches on the East Coast (Adriatic Sea) were deeper and around rock formations therefore we found the water cooler and refreshing. There are sandy beaches that are shallow on the east coast too. The West Coast (Ionian Sea) has more sandy beaches and low flat almost Maldive look about them and therefore they were much warmer some in the heat of August felt like bath water. The contrast is jaw dropping and magnificent.

Question… when we visited Santa Maria al Bagno the beach was completely littered with cigarette butts. Is this common for the area or just this beach?

Hi there, thanks for the question, we visited Santa Maria al Bagno two or three times a week and can't remember seeing it littered in cigarette butts no. Perhaps there was an event on the night before, they do have music playing on the beach and have things on at night sometimes.
