  • Russian President Vladimir Putin is among the world leaders who did elect to visit the Winter Olympics in Beijing. He met his counterpart Xi Jinping just hours ahead of the Opening Ceremony.
    The two leaders accused the US and NATO of "ideologized Cold War approaches" to defense policy, an illusion to Washington’s support for Ukraine and Russia's fears that the trans-Atlantic alliance has ambitions to expand its presence on Moscow's doorstep.
    They expressed their concern about "the advancement of US plans to develop global missile defense and deploy its elements in various regions of the world, combined with capacity building of high-precision non-nuclear weapons for disarming strikes and other strategic objectives."

    Russia is literally scaring other countries to apply membership. It would be weird for NATO not to accept just because Russia wants them to be vulnerable. Russia doesn't need NATO's security guarantees. They have their own security guarantees in the form of the worlds largest nuclear weapons arsenal. NATO have nothing to gain from an attack on Russia.
    They might be legitimately afraid that a NATO membership and EU membership for these countries would turn them into successful and far wealthier democracies which would make it hard to justify their outdated authoritarian style of leadership for the Russian public. That could turn bad for Putin and his oligarch friends.
    Russia wants to be able to dominate their neighbours in Europe and China wants the same in Asia. That's what I get from this joint statement.

      @@TajZver The US isn't dominating Russia's or China's neighbours. Russia's neighbours choose to join NATO. They are not being forced. If anyone is forcing them to join, it's Russia themselves! The countries that join NATO only have to abide by the agreement they signed up to. Military cooperation and to treat an attack on another member as if it was an attack on them. They are not being threatened and are free to build their own nation the way they want. The EU are equally strong economically, so the US can't use their wealth to dominate their European partners financially.
      Most "partners" of Russia in the CSTO, have a dictator who needs Russia's protection to keep them safe from their own population. It's a very different type of relationship. Most Ukrainians wants to be more like the Baltic countries, less like Belarus and Kazakhstan. It's up to them to decide how to get there. Not up to Russia and not up to the US. Now Russia want's to dictate what alliances they can make. It's not fair to Ukraine.

    • @Grizathvili
      @Grizathvili 2 года назад +2

      I didn't see it that way. Russia is vast enough to dominate in its own territory. It is a cultural heritage that Russia represents European culture while China represents Asian. Now Russia become stronger with China as an Asian partner.
      For you to know, Vladivostok has been a representation of European Culture in Far East Asia.
      Alliance with China, Russia becomes a great economic threat for Europe, as industries in Russia will be far more developed than ever followed by economic growth. Did Germany and EU economy ready with Hi-tech products from Russia with low price and abundance self-supplied raw material?
      Sanctions from the West just turned Russia into a more independent, sovereign and productive nation.
      There was a West quote about Russian: You kicked out Russian from the cliff, they learn how to fly.

Leaders rise by being opportunistic and being populist and/or by brute force. This can be political and religious. As a world we are divided into countries with differing cultures and borders and ethnic races and even sexes. War between them is inevitable, it is part of the human condition and inequality has a lot to do with it. The division seem stark today, almost polar opposites in may counties, due to rising inequality, the rich are getting richer and the poor very much poorer. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, NATO and Europe had a unique opportunity to integrate Russia into the West, in every respect. Now NATO's eastward expansion has made a "horror scenario" a reality. The West is economically dependent on China. In the case of economic sanctions against Russia, these are quite ineffective if Russia has easy access to world trade via China. Economic sanctions against China would also hit the West itself hard. China is less similar to the West than Russia, both politically and culturally. The West should have done more to win Russia's favor in order to win Russia over China. Now the second cold war has finally begun. And the world has the United States to thank for that.

      "Blaming the US for Putin is just NONSENSE!" >>> Not at all. Take a look at contemporary history. There are many parallels between the USSR after the Wall came down and Germany after WWI. The country has been humiliated from the outside - in pride and materially - and so the people have rallied behind a nationalist as their leader. More outside pressure will only strengthen this bond further. And the aggressive foreign policy of the United States since Bush Junior worldwide (Arab world) and also over Russian territory (spy planes) and termination of nuclear weapons agreements has contributed to Russia's isolation from the West. That was wanted, but not the resulting consequences. American nuclear weapons are provoking peace in Europe, since they are in Europe, but the American people are far from it. On the Russian side, the situation is fundamentally different. but Washington will be sure to turn a blind eye to Russia's renewed deployment of missiles in Cuba.

    • @ijustwanttosleepnow
      @ijustwanttosleepnow 2 года назад +2

      It’s not that they want, Ukraine. It’s actually quite hard to get into NATO, you have to be in a place monetarily, economically, and politically to join. Ukraine currently isn’t fit to join NATO, but if they did want to apply down the road, they should be able to. They still have to be accepted by the other countries after submitting an application to join. NATO and missiles have already been close to Russia since the 90s. That’s why none of the western allies are budging on that, because it’s not really about that. This is about large powers wanting to wield their decision making power onto nations they view as satellites. Russia is close to Ukraine in many ways and Putin wants Ukraine to follow Russia, not the West. Ukraine was also talking about applying in 2024 to join the EU for membership in 2030. This might turn things into a better state in Ukraine to join NATO. Either way, you can see how Ukraine is trying to evolve and building economic stability and security and Russia isn’t having it.

So the leader of Ukraine at the time had halted the process of joining the EU and it’s citizens rose up because that president was for Russian ties and Russian involvement and Ukraine wanted to join the rest of Europe.
      Since the changing of the government. Ukraine has been preparing to submit its application to the EU in 2024 for 2030 membership. You have to have a lot of things in place first before you can submit an application in hoping to be accepted. Same with NATO. Ukraine couldn’t currently join NATO because it doesn’t meet all the necessary requirements. That’s why there’s so much speculation that Putin is doing this to keep Ukraine to the east instead of getting its economic life together with the west with either of these organizations which would mean a stronger economy and stronger military alliance for Ukraine.
      Plus this threat is hurting the Ukrainian economy and with the constant attacks of cyber warfare in Russia, it’s also hurting its chance with joining the EU. It’s a pretty strategic bullying game.
